My Immersive Phantom Post

Okay, here’s my take on Immersive. I’m not doing any spoilers because I think everyone should have the privilege to go in blind.

What Immersive is not:

This production is not The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. It cannot be, it is not meant to be. I went into it thinking it would be, and this is a mistake. Do not go into it thinking you will be seeing The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. You will not. The songs are cut short. Lyrics are changed. Blocking is new. They have to be, to fit into the time, physical, and logistical restraints of Immersive.

This is its own show. It tells its own story. This show certainly is a nod to the original Phantom production, but it is also a nod to many other productions over the years, including, in my opinion, the 2004 movie, Phantom by Susan Kay, etc. This is its own individual production, a new and unique take and spin on ALW’s original show. It should be taken that way and appreciated that way.

It simply another, brilliant, new, and unique entry into our long and deep history of phantom adaptations since 1925.

What Immersive is:

Beautifully done, thoughtful, engaging, enchanting, unique, new, heartbreaking. It is a celebration of the phantom story and show that we love. In all ways it respects what we love about phantom and in all ways it celebrates it. It is a privilege to be a lifelong phan and to have been able to see this production come to life. When I got home last night my partner remarked that so many fandoms will never get to have something like this- so many shows/books/movies would never get an immersive experience like this. So we are so, so lucky.

It was beautiful.

Practical tips for those who are privileged to be going in the future:

Wear the comfy shoes, girl. I get it, I was wearing a gown too, but I wore Toms underneath. I promise you once you are inside ain’t nobody looking at you. There is a lot of walking, there are quite a few stairs. You want to be comfy.

There is a bag check.

There is access to a bathroom at the start. Go then. I have no clue how’d you’d go during the show. There is no intermission. Go at the beginning.

i'm gonna try not to post hard spoilers for masquerade because i highly recommend you go in as blind as possible, but whatever i do post on here will be tagged [#masquerade spoilers] for filtering purposes
