man, we on tumblr have got to bring back Pacific Rim AUs. I miss that feeling of "oh my god they were drift compatible..."

So, ofmd pacific rim AU. Stede Bonnet is a rich guy living in a Kaiju-free safe-zone far inland who abandons his family and uproots his life to join the jaeger program. Don't question why they let his old ass join up as a pilot. There he finds out he's drift compatible with Ed "Blackbeard" Teach, who just lost his partner Calico Jack to a career ending injury that wrecked their Jaeger "The Ranger." Stede and Ed pilot a new Jaeger called "The Revenge."

Izzy is a pilot of "The Queen Anne" with Fang and Ivan. When Jack had to retire he was desperate to become Edward's new pilot and was angered to find out they weren't drift compatible. And if finding out he's not compatible with Ed pisses him off, finding out Ed's compatible with Stede fucking infuriates him. This rich ass who's lived his whole life without ever being in fear of a Kaiju is now the co-pilot to the legendary Blackbeard???

Izzy would barely contain his hatred of Stede, and Stede would immediately hate him right the fuck back. Eventually one day this escalates to a fist fight in the commissary with most of the program as witnesses. When they're finally pulled apart and separated, Stede notices Ed is looking at him in shock.

"Yes, I know, it was rather brutish of me to resort to violence." Stede says as he tries to laugh it off.

And Ed goes "Huh? Mate, do you even realize that you and Izzy are drift compatible?"

Meanwhile Izzy is having a complete fucking mental breakdown in his room after Fang and Ivan told him the same thing.
