if I had a nickel for every time I'd seen a piece of media that featured a mysterious alien in the desert being treated like a tourist trap by people who mistakenly thought they could control it, until it eventually swallowed a bunch of tourists whole, I'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
