killua and gon and the way you never love again quite like you did at twelve years old. stargazing together and thinking that at sixty, which is so weird and distant of an age that it almost feels like it can’t even be real, you will be just like this. gazing at them while their eyes are elsewhere and thinking this is the first time you actually understand what beautiful means. you still haven’t learned what are the intricacies of all different types of love but you do know that your heart pounds and that you’re happy when you’re together and that’s more than enough to you. sharing thoughts and emotions that are taking shape in your chest for the first time in your entire, short life, because no matter how traumatic childhood was, your heart still hasn't quite learnt how to form feelings with names. and speaking of that childhood, thinking you’re finally growing out of that and the person at your side is doing the exact same thing and maybe if we cross this line to whatever comes after that we can stay tied together forever. there will come inevitably a time where you will take different paths because, unexpectedly, twelve-thirteen-fourteen isn’t the oldest you will ever be. you won’t even know if they will tell you happy twentieth birthday but you sure will think of them on their own. there’s a high chance that laughter you heard ringing in the background of your dream was theirs.

sometimes i think about the scene from episode 7 of the 1999 anime, the one about leorio dealing with his grief about pietro, and the sound of the church bells.

those are not mourning bells. they are sunday mass bells.

i might be overthinking this, but i feel like there's something to be said there.
