kennst du das, wenn du eine nachricht von der person, die du über alles liebst, bekommst und sie dich so zusammenfahren, regelrecht zusammenbrechen lässt? du liegst im bett, liest diese nachricht einmal, zweimal, dreimal, bis du sie wirklich begreifen kannst. du fängst an, an dir zu zweifeln. was ist diesmal der grund gewesen, warum hat es wieder nicht mit uns geklappt? “ein für alle mal, es ist aus. es war ein fehler.”. du liegst wie paralysiert im bett, kannst dich nicht bewegen, kannst kaum noch atmen, du hast so große angst. du bist so unglaublich verletzt, dass du kaum noch weinen kannst. und wenn die tränen doch kommen, kannst du gar nicht mehr aufhören. der schmerz in deinem herzen ist so stark, du denkst, du hältst es kaum noch aus; aber du musst. du musst jetzt durchhalten, du musst es schaffen, du schaffst es auch alleine. aber die frage ist: will man es alleine schaffen? will man, nach all dem was war, einfach aufgeben? besteht nicht doch noch irgendwie der hauch einer chance? kann man nicht doch noch irgendwie irgendwas tun, damit das alles doch funktioniert? “es wurde immer schlimmer. ich will einfach nicht mehr. fertig.”. du kriegst solche nachrichten an den kopf geknallt und kannst es einfach nicht verstehen. du zerbrichst dir den kopf, überlegst, welche deiner handlungen diesmal der auslöser für all das war. ich habe es doch nur gut gemeint.. ich wollte dir meine aufmerksamkeit schenken, dir zeigen, dass ich da bin, dass ich für dich da bin, egal was ist, egal was passiert. aber nur weil du für die person da bist, die du liebst, heißt das nicht, dass sie genauso für dich da sein wird. bitte merk dir das. ich weiß nicht mehr, was ich machen soll. ich fühle mich so leer wie schon lange nicht mehr, als hätte man alle meine gefühle, die ich jemals für ihn empfunden habe, gewaltsam herausgenommen und weggeschmissen. sie sind doch jetzt eh nichts mehr wert. ich hoffe nur, dass du irgendwann verstehen wirst, wie ich mich fühle, F, ich hoffe, du kannst alles, was ich jemals getan habe, nachvollziehen. nichts von dem, was ich tat, habe ich mit böswilligem hintergedanken getan. alles, was ich für dich, für mich tat, habe ich für uns getan. ich habe alles auf uns gebaut, alles. und genau das war der fehler. jetzt ist nichts mehr von alledem da. alles ist weg, weggegangen mit dir. du hast alles mitgenommen, mein herz, das gefühl, irgendwas empfinden zu können, meine liebe, alles. ich fühle mich so unglaublich leer ohne dich.. ich hoffe, dass du eines tages verstehst, was du mir angetan hast und vielleicht bereust du auch, wie das alles gekommen ist. vielleicht hättest du ‘uns’ doch eine chance geben sollen. vielleicht hättest du damit aufhören sollen, die ganze zeit an 'uns’ zu zweifeln. vielleicht hättest du mir glauben sollen und nicht den lügen anderer in bezug auf mich blind vertrauen sollen. vielleicht wäre dann alles anders gelaufen. vielleicht hättest du mich dann wieder lieben können, so wie am anfang. ich liebe dich, F. und ich hoffe, dass du all das irgendwann liest und an mich und unsere alte, wunderschöne zeit denkst.

Abstract

The challenge of studying human cognitive evolution is identifying unique features of our intelligence while explaining the processes by which they arose. Comparisons with nonhuman apes point to our early-emerging cooperative-communicative abilities as crucial to the evolution of all forms of human cultural cognition, including language. The human self-domestication hypothesis proposes that these early-emerging social skills evolved when natural selection favored increased in-group prosociality over aggression in late human evolution. As a by-product of this selection, humans are predicted to show traits of the domestication syndrome observed in other domestic animals. In reviewing comparative, developmental, neurobiological, and paleoanthropological research, compelling evidence emerges for the predicted relationship between unique human mentalizing abilities, tolerance, and the domestication syndrome in humans. This synthesis includes a review of the first a priori test of the self-domestication hypothesis as well as predictions for future tests.

Research: Fontsmith designs typography for government campaign to improve health of the over 40s (Google)

Fontsmith has created new bespoke typefaces that aim to address preventable diseases in the over 40s as part of the government’s One You campaign.

“The typeface needed to connect with people, and find the right balance between being stylish, genuine and legible,” says Fontsmith.

The typefaces are used across all campaign materials, with a script caps face working alongside a sans serif caps version based loosely on FS Dillon. Fontsmith says: “For a government health campaign like this one it was absolutely vital to make the typeface unique so that it would become synonymous with the brand and message… The two fonts needed to balance each other with a similar presence, but at the same time create the right contrast to command attention.”

The script caps font was created by hand-painting lettering using inks, brushes and pens, aiming to achieve “rawness and texture” to give a more “authentic” feel, according to Fontsmith founder Jason Smith.

I really like this campaign, one because it is typographically led which is what my brief is about, but it is also a different way in which to have a campaign. You don’t often see a type face being made for a campaign. I love how authentic the typeface is and that it connects with you due to its rawness. This has made me realise how important choice of typeface is within this project.

This font designed by Fontsmith was for a Government-led campaign which aimed to improve the health of over 40-year-olds. Fontsmith created the font using brush and ink, they did this to give the letters a raw and natural feel which in turn made the font personal and “connect” with people. 

Although the font has effectively balanced authority and being genuine, I feel the typography does not connect with the issue as best as it could. I will keep note of certain elements for my ideas however mainly use this campaign as an example of typography that lacks power.
