2 People Seriously Injured After Small Plane Crashes Near Interstate South of Denver
Small planes are generally safe to fly in, but they do have some differences compared to larger commercial airplanes. They are often used for short trips, private flights, and training purposes. Small planes have to follow strict safety regulations, and pilots need special training to fly them. Modern small planes are equipped with advanced technology and safety features. However, weather conditions can affect them more than larger planes so that flights might be delayed or canceled more often. It's important for pilots to check weather reports and maintain their planes regularly. While there are some risks, flying in small planes can be a safe and enjoyable experience when proper safety measures are followed.

Y/N and Bebe had been struggling to make rent after Wendy moved in with her boyfriend, Stan. It wasn’t that they weren’t friends and didn’t want to live together anymore; it was more the issue that Wendy and Stan didn’t get any privacy in the apartment. Plus, Y/N and Bebe were fed up with having to wait to use the only bathroom because the couple were in the shower together. Meanwhile, Stan’s roommate was apparently the sort of guy who just studied in his room all day, so they had plenty of privacy there.
That was when Bebe suggested that her boyfriend move in with them. According to her, they had broken up in high school but remained friends and had just resumed their relationship a month prior.
A lot of South Park students ended up in Denver for college and got apartments together. Wendy and Bebe needed a third roommate, and Y/N needed a place to live as she was the only one from her hometown to attend that college, so she didn’t know anyone. Things just worked out, and they moved in together, a friendship forming easily between the three.
Bebe’s boyfriend had supposedly missed the deadlines when it came to getting an apartment with roommates, so he was stuck with two guys he didn’t know or like. He jumped at the chance to move in with Bebe and Y/N when Wendy left.
Y/N hadn’t met him before but trusted Bebe’s judgement. At least, that was until she heard Bebe loudly moaning his name on the first night, and she realised that she did, in fact, know exactly who he was.
“Just because you think he’s-” Bebe started to protest to Y/N, but she was cut off.
“That’s where you’re wrong!” Y/N pointed at her as though she were catching her out in a lie. “I don’t think in general!”
“Can’t you just be happy for me?” Bebe pleaded, holding her hands up to cup each side of Y/N’s face, squishing her cheeks together a little. Y/N pulled Bebe’s hands away and held them.
“Babe, I’m your biggest supporter. I would be happy for you if you were dating a literal toad. But Clyde?” Y/N knew Clyde. She sat behind him in English Literature and constantly got distracted by the games that Clyde would play on his laptop instead of listening to the lecture. Particularly when the games were anime-girl dating simulators which featured a lot of boob action. She was guilty of playing them herself, that wasn’t the problem, but she didn’t play them in the middle of a lecture. It was hard to listen to her professor talk about how the mountains in Frankenstein portrayed Victor’s emotional state when the limits of jiggle physics in games were being tested right in front of her. “I mean, really, of all people, it had to be Clyde? Clyde?”
“What?” Clyde appeared in the doorway to Bebe’s bedroom, or rather, what was now their shared bedroom. Instantly, Y/N covered her eyes.
“Goddamn it! Put some clothes on!” She yelled, having seen far more of her classmate than she ever wanted to.
“Oh shit!” Clyde looked down at his completely bare form and darted back into the room. Y/N only knew the coast was clear to lower her hand when she heard the door slam shut.
“Don’t give me that look!” Bebe sighed.
“My eyes are singed! I can’t give you any sort of look right now.”
“Give him a week?” Bebe asked, putting on her best puppy dog pleading expression. “Please? For me?”
“You’re so lucky you’re the hottest person I’ve ever met, and I would let you step on me repeatedly if that’s what you requested.” Y/N sighed, giving in instantly.
“Flirt with me all you want; it won’t make me dump him,” Bebe rolled her eyes playfully.
“One day, it’ll work!” Y/N shrugged. She had a habit of flirting with her friends for fun. It didn’t really mean anything. It was just a playful little joke. If someone wasn't comfortable with it, she would instantly stop, but it was so much fun when they played back.
“I gotta admit, you’ve come close before.” Bebe teased, throwing her a little wink.
“Come close to what?” Clyde emerged from their room again, now, fortunately, with some pants on. He was still shirtless, but he had attended lectures shirtless on multiple occasions despite being told he would be kicked out if it continued, so this was nothing new to her.
“Your girlfriend was just admitting that I’ve come close to seducing her,” Y/N proudly stated. “So if you don’t treat her right, I will.”
“She means that,” Bebe added with a nod.
“Wait-” Cogs started turning in Clyde’s brain. “Are you the one that almost split Stan and Wendy up when he wasn’t treating her right?” Y/N nodded, though the whole situation had been blown a little out of proportion when the information was passed around like a bad game of telephone.
Y/N hadn’t intentionally tried to break them up. She hadn’t even really flirted with Wendy in that way. Stan kept on bailing on dates, but Wendy would always forgive him. Y/N simply took her on a date when Stan bailed and showed Wendy how she deserved to be treated. She took her out for a nice meal, they went on a walk, they went to the theatre, and Y/N walked Wendy to her door at the end, which, since they lived in the same apartment at the time, was right across the hall from hers. She even gave her a little kiss on the cheek as they parted ways.
It succeeded in giving the couple the wake-up call they needed to get their relationship back on track. Stan needed to show his girlfriend that he actually loved her and treat her better, and Wendy had to be reminded that she was deserving of love and better treatment.
“They call me the homewrecker,” Y/N shrugged, deciding it was best not to elaborate on the whole situation with Wendy and Stan to Clyde so she could use the same technique if he dared to treat Bebe poorly. “And not just because I’m terrible at DIY.”
“Oh! That reminds me!” Bebe pointed over to their small kitchen unit. The living room and kitchen were smooshed together, and both looked pretty pathetic, but it was livable. “Don’t touch anything under the kitchen sink. It is duct-taped together and holding on for dear life because someone is too stubborn to admit she can’t fix it.”
“Oh, no, I freely admit I can’t fix it!” Y/N held her hands up in surrender. “I just refuse to pay that asshole plumber to fix it.”
“After what you did to him, I don’t think he could be paid any amount of money to come anywhere near our building to fix it,” Bebe mumbled. “And he was the only one we could afford.”
“Look, it’s not leaking currently, so the duct tape is working. Just… don’t breathe on it,” Y/N instructed Clyde. “Or look in its general direction or even think about it because it really is as fragile as my ego.”
“This is the most I’ve heard you talk,” Clyde suddenly pointed out. “You’re so quiet in class.”
“HA!” Bebe let out a loud snort of laughter, pointing at Y/N. “This one? Quiet?”
“When there is no one worth talking to, I don’t see the need to waste my breath,” Y/N explained.
“I’m in that class?” Clyde seemed confused and a little hurt.
“My point exactly,” She mumbled, looking down at the ground.
“You’re talking to me now,” He pointed out, now seeming smug. In response, Y/N turned around and wordlessly walked past him to get to her room, closing the door behind her without so much as looking back at him.
“Give her time,” Bebe assured Clyde, placing a hand on his arm encouragingly as he watched the door close. “She’ll warm up to you.”
“Did it take her a while with you and Wendy?” Clyde asked, turning back to face his girlfriend.
“Noooo! We were instant BFFs! She started talking to us and hasn’t stopped since. I don’t think she slept for three days when we first met because she was so excited to make friends,” Bebe laughed but stopped when she saw that Clyde looked genuinely dejected over the fact that he hadn’t hit it off with his new flatmate. “Just… buy her a drink or something while we’re out, and you’ll be in her good books.”
“She’s coming out with us tonight?”
“Of course! She’s our friend!”
“I thought it would just be the South Park group?”
“If Kenny and Tolkien can bring their girlfriends, we can bring Y/N.”
“I’m not going,” Y/N suddenly spoke up from behind Clyde.
“What the fuck?!” Clyde spun around, clutching his chest as though he were having a heart attack. He hadn’t heard her open her door or walk back up to them. “How did you do that?”
“Sorry, I should have warned you about that,” Bebe winced as she watched her boyfriend try to catch his breath again. “You’ll get used to it.”
“Are you a vampire or something?” Clyde questioned Y/N. She could tell he was completely being serious. “You have to tell us if you are, right? Like undercover cops?”
“Yes, Clyde, obviously I am a vampire,” Y/N nodded, her voice oozing sarcasm. “I am an immortal being who decided that she wanted to spend her eternity going to college and living in an apartment where everything is broken. Now you know my secret I have to kill you.”
“She’s a dancer, so she’s light on her feet,” Bebe explained, ignoring Y/N. “You’ll never hear her coming.”
“Unlike your mom,” Y/N couldn’t stop herself from making the joke. It may have been childish and in poor taste, but she had to. Bebe ignored it, and Clyde didn’t understand, still caught up on everything else.
“A dancing vampire?” He asked. Y/N couldn’t help but snort in laughter at how serious Clyde looked.
“This is your man?” She questioned Bebe, pointing at Clyde.
“Yes!” Bebe groaned, feeling a little secondhand embarrassment from her boyfriend. “You are coming tonight.”
“So is your mo-” Y/N started to repeat the crappy joke, but Bebe’s glare silenced her. “I’m not going.”
“See! She doesn’t want to!” Clyde insisted. “She’s not going!”
“Wait, do you not want me to go?” Y/N asked Clyde, who hesitantly nodded in confirmation. “Oh! Well, in that case, I’m definitely going.” Clyde deflated at the realisation that she was going purely to annoy him.
“Yay! Come on, let's find you the perfect dress!” Bebe grabbed Y/N’s arm, dragging her to her bedroom.
“Wait, why are we going to your room?” Y/N questioned, trying to wiggle away. Bebe could be quite strong when she wanted to be, and her grip on her arm was like a vice. “I have my own dresses.”
“Not the right sort! This is a nightclub, not a barbecue at your grandparents’ house.”
“I’ve always felt my style was more ‘I’d rather be at the ren fair’ than family barbecue, but you’re the one studying fashion, so what do I know?”
“I say this with love… You know nothing.” Bebe shook her head in pity at Y/N. “Now let’s get you in a dress that shows off your cute ass.”

Take Me Home, Country Roads (1): To The Place I Belong
Tumblr media
❥ NakedToaster x Reader
Tumblr media
August 30th, 2009
Late August evenings in your home state of Colorado were vastly different than the ones in Texas, that was for sure. By this late in the day, the temperature would’ve gone down to sixty-five degrees at the highest, and the crickets would’ve stopped chirping hours ago. You couldn’t remember the last time the sun had been out for this long, even in the summer months back home. As you carried boxes of your belongings from your sister’s car to the house you’d be staying at for the next year, the only thing on your mind was how unbearable all of this was. Texas was even more disappointing than you expected, from the thick layer of inescapable humidity to the bloodthirsty mosquitoes that followed you every time you stepped outside.
Initially, you had been proud of your older sister, Sable,  for getting into Fields University, one of the top research universities in all of Texas. Getting into a prestigious college like Fields couldn’t have been easy, especially out of state. The longer you unpacked, however, the more that feeling began to dwindle. It was replaced with thoughts of why she couldn’t have just gone to a college in Denver like all her other peers or at least picked a school that wasn’t in the hottest, most moist environment known to man.
While you contemplated the dreadfulness of your current situation, one of the three boxes stacked in your arms unexpectedly tilted to the side and burst all over the front porch. The sound of glass shattering effectively snapped you out of your pity party and into a panic. You hadn’t even remembered packing anything glass aside from your desk lamp and perfume bottles. Whatever it was that broke, you hoped it wasn’t anything valuable.
“(Y/N), seriously?” Sable’s voice sounded from behind you. Just great, you thought, another lecture . “How hard is it to carry a box inside? Y’know what,” -she grabbed the other two boxes from your arms and into her own before stepping inside, ”-just stay out of the way. Go explore the neighborhood or something.” You opened your mouth to protest, but she slammed the door before you even got the chance. Looking around, you were lost on what to do next. You hadn’t seen any stores nearby when you first drove into town, and the last thing you wanted to do was get lost this late in the evening.
Stepping off the porch, you did a quick scan of the neighborhood. On your left, there was seemingly a dead end with nothing but single-story houses that looked identical to yours. It was a very picket-fence suburb you had moved into, one that you wouldn’t expect a college student to be able to afford. Sable had upgraded to the house from her old apartment two months before you came along, soon after getting her phlebotomy license and beginning work at a nearby hospital. You didn’t know exactly how much she made, but it was enough to take care of both of you and pay the $1,100 monthly rent for the two-bedroom house. Naturally, she was receiving money from your parents, but that was more of a luxury than a necessity. After you got a job, which was not optional according to your sister, you two would make enough to be completely independent.
Turning your head in the opposite direction, you saw the same thing minus the dead end. The only thing that caught your eye was a dirt trail that seemingly went into the forest behind your row of houses. It wasn’t a Blair Witch kind of path, but rather a Studio Ghibli one. From where you stood, you could see the setting sun illuminate the red and orange trees along the trail, almost as if it was lined with paper lanterns or something. Still, you had more self-preservation than walking into a forest late at night, so you shelved the idea and began walking along the neighborhood’s road.
When you rounded the corner, it was almost as if you had stepped into a different side of town. Instead of the homey, single-story homes that lined your street, there were two-story suburbanite mansions as far as the eye could see. Maybe mansions weren’t the right word, but they were certainly bigger than any of the other homes you had seen in the area. You had no idea how you missed that street when you arrived, but you assumed they were covered by the thicket of nearby trees. Warm light from the windows of the houses shone into the street, casting a warm glow across the asphalt you were walking on. That was another downside to Texas- there were no sidewalks anywhere.
As much as you wanted to continue exploring down that road, you weren’t about to play with God or Texas’s gun laws. The last thing you wanted to do was get shot on your first day in the state for trespassing. You reluctantly turned around and headed straight, not back to your house but to the main road that went into town. As you got closer, you could see a water tower in the distance with the word OTTAWA in big, bold lettering. You knew it wasn’t rare for states to recycle town names, but to use Canada’s capital? The local government must’ve seriously had no shame.
You walked around for another twenty-ish minutes, just looking around all the nearby streets and praying you’d stumble across a convenience store or gas station, with no success. When the sky turned a dark purple, you took that as your sign to start heading home. Throughout your entire walk, you saw little signs of human life aside from the occasional sound of a car slamming shut or a door creaking open. It was beyond unsettling. You concluded everyone probably died from the mosquitoes in the area, and you and Sable were the last survivors. The final girls, so to speak, regardless of gender.
As it turned out, you hadn’t walked nearly as far as you thought. After rounding a couple of corners, you were right back where you had started. Home, or in your mosquito apocalyptic delusion, base camp. Walking up to your porch, you could see Sable inside the kitchen cooking what you presumed to be dinner. Her car’s trunk door was shut, so you assumed all the unpacking was done. You hadn’t brought that much, to begin with, just your clothes, a couple of books, and some keepsakes. Most of your furniture would arrive via FedEx, so you’d have to sleep on the couch until your mattress was delivered. It was the cherry on top of the world’s shittiest cake.
“Ugh, you’re back already? I was hoping somebody picked you off the street already.” Sable greeted from the next room over. You gave her the finger through the open doorway.
“I wasn’t out that long, was I? It felt like thirty minutes, max.” You checked the clock that was hung next to the TV in the living room. 8:20. You had been gone for a little over an hour.
“Time flies when your having fun, I guess.” She shrugged and turned back to the stove, turning it off. You made a sour face at the comment, to which she laughed.
“Oh my god, you’re so fucking corny.” You scowled. “And for the record, I very much still hate it here.” You trudged from the living room into the kitchen. The house was cozy; nothing too big but far from shabby for a high schooler and college student living alone. The kitchen and dining room were combined into one room, with a kitchenette on one side and a dining table on the other. The living room wasn’t the biggest either, maybe large enough for four or so people, and the rooms were a decent size. The house was average but still better than any of the $1,100 studio apartments Sable had previously lived at.
“It could be worse- we could be living in College Station. Anyway, the food’s ready if you wanna eat.” She leaned the pot she was stirring over a bit to show you what was inside. Ramen. You sat down in the seat closest to the front window to look outside. Not that you could see anything, the sun had now fully set, but it was the thought that mattered.
“What the hell is College Station?” You questioned as Sable slid a bowl full of ramen in your direction.
“Imagine a town full of sorority girls and frat boys.” She responded, serving a bowl for herself and sitting down across from you.
“No way.”
“Yes, way. I had a group of my friends try to convince me to go there for spring break. They said it had all the cute guys in Texas.” Your sister rolled her eyes and shoved a forkful of ramen into her mouth.
“Did you go?” You asked.
“Hell no. And hopefully, I’ll never have to see, hear, or think of that place again once I graduate.” She swallowed and looked back up at you, eyes alight with sudden interest. “How are you feeling about school tomorrow?”
“Aw, it’s so funny you think I’m going.” You chuckled dryly. There was absolutely zero chance of you going to school the following day. After driving for sixteen hours straight from Colorado to bumfuck, middle-of-nowhere Texas, the devil himself would have to haul your ass to school for you to go.
“It’s so funny you think you have a choice,” Sable replied. Unfortunately for you, you forgot your sister was basically the devil incarnate. You two got along well enough, but memories of her putting Nair in your shampoo came flooding back as soon as she responded. Technically she couldn’t force you to go, and you could easily win a fight with her if it came to that, but you weren’t too keen on finding out what she’d do if you skipped. “Look, we just had the worst drive of our lives, but it’s important to get a headstart on school.” She reasoned.
“What, do they teach all business majors that?” You glared.
“What the hell does that have to do with my major?” Sable scowled, throwing you a dirty look. “All I’m saying is you’re already gonna stand out enough, what with being a new kid and all. Do you want to draw more attention to yourself by skipping the first day?”
“God, you go to that fancy college, and all of a sudden think you’re sooo much smarter than everyone else-” You began. You loved teasing her by making fun of her education. It was entertaining to see how riled up she could get in such a short amount of time.
“Fuck off- I’m going to sleep.” Sable walked over to the sink and began to rinse it out. “You packed your alarm, right?”
“Yeah, why?” You asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Don’t turn it up too loud. I don’t know how thin these walls are, but I’ll kill you if the noise wakes me up. I just drove across four states, and I need my rest.”
“You’re gonna have to wake up anyway. You have to take me to school.” As soon as the words left your mouth, Sable burst out laughing. “What? What’s so funny?” You stood up from your spot at the table to dump your dish in the sink, side-eyeing her the entire time. After several attempts to catch her breath from her outburst, she spoke.
“I’m not taking you to school tomorrow. You can walk.” You stared in disbelief. You had walked around for how long? An hour? And not once had you seen a single school. Had you missed something, or had your sister actually gone mad?
“No, the hell I can’t! I get you’re busy or whatever, but you were the one who offered to take me in. I walked around for an hour and didn’t see anything but houses and dead ends. How far away is this school?” You couldn’t believe this. You had experienced betrayal before but from your sister?
“Your navigational skills are ass. I’m not surprised you didn’t see it. It’s maybe a twenty-minute walk if you take a shortcut through the trail on the left, probably forty if you stick to the main road, though.” Sable estimated. “Just go straight; you can’t miss it. Don’t forget to wash your plate.” And with that, she unceremoniously exited the room.
The only thing on your mind for the rest of the night, throughout your unpacking, showering, and teeth-brushing, was just how much you were starting to hate Texas and just how long it’d be until you could leave.

Warnings: Language, Tyson being cute (you know, same ol' same ol'.) Author's notes: Hey all, sorry about the lack of update last week. Apparently when the Sabres have a bye week, I took it off too. (Real talk, stupid stuff like work and some personal crap came up and I'm still dealing with that. I had half the chapter written for last week and then battled some burnout for a bit. Took a breather to find some motivation.) Tyson's still on the road after AJ's roadie, but she's back in Buffalo, getting the apartment unpacked.
Waking up in Winnipeg, Tyson was conflicted. He had a little extra pep in his step at practice (or strides, as the case may be on the ice) as AJ was his last two games, but he couldn’t help but still wish she was going to be at the game the next night. He was glad she was safe on the ground in Buffalo though, probably up to some sort of shenanigans. It was one of the things he loved most about her.
AJ was dragging. She made it back to Buffalo in one piece after leaving a blizzard in St. Louis, and making her connecting flight just in time to head back. Her ride from the airport actually dropped her off at the hotel one last time, where she piled the few remaining items in their tiny space into Tyson’s Grand Cherokee, did one last sweep of the room, and checked out at the front desk.
The hotel was officially no longer home.
Parking the Jeep next to her own car in the building’s garage in their parking spots, AJ inhaled deeply. Contemplating a nap in Tyson’s vehicle crossed her mind, as her body was exhausted from the stress of the flights earlier. Finally though, AJ got the motivation to get out and start unloading the vehicle, and getting it all upstairs. After four trips up and down and up again, the vehicle was empty, and everything Tyson and AJ had was in the apartment. In boxes strewn everywhere, but in the apartment.
Grabbing her suitcase, she headed for the bedroom pulling out her ziploc bag of toiletries from the flights, and found the box that had the towels in it. Peeling out of her clothes, the hot water of the shower melted away the grime she always felt after a travel day, leaving her feeling loose and, well, still exhausted. Throwing on a pair of joggers and a hoodie, current time AJ was so happy that past AJ put sheets on the bed before she left for the roadie. Pulling back the sheets, she climbed into bed, melting into the feeling that was Tyson’s bed from Minneapolis, from Denver. It felt familiar, it felt right, other than it was missing Tyson.
With a quick snap of a selfie snuggled into the pillows and blankets, AJ sent it to Tyson.
AJ: Home, can’t wait for you to get here. <1 attachment>
Tyson: I will be dreaming of that tonight, and every night until I’m back.
The smile didn’t fade from AJ’s face as she fell asleep, hugging Tyson’s pillow close to her.
After snagging dinner with a few of the guys, Tyson headed back to his own hotel room, coming up with a few ideas of his own in regards to the new place. Just like the last place in Minneapolis, Tyson was letting AJ come up with how to arrange things - she had more of an eye for it than he did. But there were a few things that he wanted to make happen if he could. Trying to recall how AJ had her space set up as far as her computer gear goes previously, the gears started turning in his head as he pulled up the floorplan AJ had originally sent him when she first toured the building. Eyelids getting heavy, he opened a new note on his phone, jotting a few ideas down before giving up for the night.
Fluffing up the extra pillows on the bed next to him, Tyson curled up with them in the hopes it would feel like AJ back home.
“Just a few more nights…” Tyson whispered to himself as he drifted off, dreaming of coming home to AJ after this roadie.
Sunlight streamed in the windows on the east side of the apartment as AJ hadn’t yet hung curtains yet, and it woke her up. Looking at the clock on her phone that was sitting on a box next to the bed, she figured out she literally just slept thirteen hours. Considering her day previously started with an hour and a half of sleep and a ride to the airport at 3:15AM, she didn’t feel bad about it. Rubbing her eyes, there were a lot of boxes to go through in front of her. AJ detoured to get a quick breakfast at the E Cafe around the corner, and was now fueled to take on the morning.
First on the docket was setting up some tech so that the internet worked throughout the rooms. Plus, AJ was tired of listening to music on the tiny speaker of her phone. Within a few minutes, she had set up the modem and router, plugging everything in with a chuckle.
“LET THERE BE WIFI!” AJ boomed, seeing her phone pick up the signal.
Next up was getting a few speakers throughout so music could be heard in all rooms as she traveled around unpacking. With tunes playing, AJ stared at the living room trying to decide which wall the television should be. As she moved the TV stand, the bookcases followed to flank it. Struggling slightly getting the television onto the stand, the cables were hidden, and she turned it on to make sure everything was still working.
In doing so, a lightbulb clicked on in AJ’s head.
Heading to the guest room, AJ pulled a large object from the bed, and placed it on the papasan chair. From behind it in the kitchen, a photo was snapped. Looking at her watch, Tyson should have been awake and probably heading to the arena.
AJ: Well SOMEONE made himself at home. <1 attachment>
Tyson was grabbing a coffee at the hotel before hopping on the bus when his phone buzzed in his suit pocket. Opening up the message, he found Maple the Bear sitting in the chair, clearly not helping unpack boxes.
Removing Maple from the chair, AJ brought him back to the guest room, setting him down next to the giant panda bear that AJ had won for Tyson at the Minnesota State Fair. This gave her an idea for later, but for now, she had to unpack more.
Tackling closets and bathrooms, and finding homes for all of the kitchen gadgets the two amassed took up most of the day. A few texts were shared back and forth, giving Tyson updates on what all AJ was accomplishing, and asking for input. More ideas were coming into his mind, but again, would have to wait until he was back in town. One thing though, he could pull off that night.
AJ’s phone buzzed with a message that wasn’t from Tyson, and it wasn’t from Jess or Nate.
Hi, this is Kevin with Instacart, I have a delivery downstairs for you from Tyson.
Shaking her head, AJ threw her hair back in a messy ponytail and put on some shoes to get downstairs. Kevin was in the lobby, holding a couple bags awkwardly. She dug her wallet out to give the poor soul a tip for having to carry it all inside. Balancing all the bags in her hands, AJ took the elevator back upstairs and down the hall. Once inside, the bags were set on the counter.
Produce, vegetables, meats, boxes of pasta, milk, frozen meals, eggs, cheese… and beer. A six-pack of Blue Moon, to be exact. That made AJ smile, because she could definitely use one this evening with all the unpacking she’d been working on. As food made its way into their new homes on shelves in the pantry, or in the fridge and freezer, she contemplated what she was going to make for dinner, but honestly, really didn’t want to despite the sweet gesture of Tyson sending groceries to her. In fact, she hadn’t quite unpacked all the pots and pans yet, but was getting ready to as it was going to be nice not having to use the same kettle and pan over and over again like they did for months at the hotel.
Just as she was finally coming to terms with it needing to be done, the sound of AJ’s phone vibrating against the kitchen counter snapped her back into reality.
This is Tina with DoorDash, I’m in the lobby with something from Tyson for you.
“What did he do this time?” AJ stared at her phone, smirking as she headed for the door again.
The elevator whooshed down to the main floor, doors opening to let AJ see Tina standing near the desk with a large pizza box. Trading the box for a couple dollar tip, she saw that Tyson had Gino & Joe’s delivered. It smelled delicious as she made her way back up to the twelfth floor again. Opening the box lid, she gasped and giggled.
The pepperoni were in the shape of a heart, filled in with mushrooms. Upon further inspection, a note was scribbled inside the lid.
Hi Eggo, no need to cook tonight, you’ve been working hard. Love you, see you soon. <;3, Tyson
It was nearly 7:00PM, the day went by so fast. Tyson would be getting ready for the game against Winnipeg.
AJ: Tyson Jost, what am I going to do with you? I mean other than love you forever. Thanks for sending everything, especially dinner.
Tyson: I can think of a few things you can do when I get home (winking emoji) Love you
AJ: Kick some ass tonight, I’ll be cheering you on from the sofa with Maple!
Tyson was envisioning AJ sprawled out on the overstuffed gray sofa, box of pizza and a Blue Moon on the coffee table. All the snapshots she’d sent through the day put together a pretty good idea of how things were situated. During his warmup doing a little jogging before getting his gear on, he daydreamed of the next steps in his plan.
Back in Buffalo, AJ settled in with the pizza that she put in the oven to keep warm. Pre-game coverage played on the television. She’d forgotten how comfortable it was to have space, to sprawl out, and to have the big screen TV again - they’d become accustomed to the significantly smaller TV and sofa. Remembering the lamps were set up with wifi plugs, she asked Alexa to turn them off. The glow of the screen illuminated the pretty much set up living room, leaving her to enjoy the pizza and game.
In Winnipeg, Tyson was trying to find the back of the net with six shots on the night, but nothing made it in. Was a solid game for him though, and another W for the team as the points are starting to get important, being on the edge of a wildcard spot for the playoffs.
Between the physical exhaustion from unpacking all day, as well as having a couple beers, AJ’s eyes weren’t staying open. Putting the remaining pizza in the fridge, AJ found her way to her sink in the bathroom (she claimed it anyway, Tyson would just have to deal with using the other one.). After washing her face and taking out her contacts, she grimaced as her stomach wasn’t feeling quite right, although it was a similar feeling that she’d been having the last few weeks, chalking it up to stress and all the crud going around. Popping a few antacids in her mouth, she curled up in bed trying to get comfortable.
A game of Sudoku was interrupted with a notification on her phone from Tyson.
Tyson: One more stop, and I’ll be home. Miss you so much, can’t wait to see what the apartment looks like!
Seeing the words made AJ relax a little bit, her stomach unknotting some.
AJ: Can’t wait to have you back here, it’s lonely in this big space all by myself. Thank you again for dinner, and all the groceries. You’re way too good to me. (heart emoji) Sweet dreams babe, and safe travels in the morning in case I’m not awake yet (sleeping emoji)
Finishing up her game of Sudoku, AJ put her phone down on the box next to the bed, and slept off and on all night, eventually getting up around 6am. Digging her headphones out of her backpack still packed from her flight, AJ headed to the gym downstairs. Her stomach still didn’t feel right, but she powered through a few miles on the elliptical.
Water and crackers seemed to be what was on the menu for breakfast after she got back upstairs and took a shower. Food just didn’t sound good. Sitting at the breakfast bar, AJ scrolled through a few things on her phone - Twitter, Instagram, Reddit. It was too early to text Jess to ask about her thoughts with her stomach, so instead she looked up a few doctor offices in the area. It was time to be an adult and get whatever this is checked out. Once 8AM hit, she started calling a few offices to see if she could find a doc accepting new patients. Somehow she lucked into getting an appointment later that morning as someone canceled at a decently rated doctor in the neighborhood.
In the meantime, AJ looked around at the boxes in the kitchen still, so she started putting in new shelf paper in the cabinets and putting dishes and cooking utensils away. The empty bins started stacking up in the corner, and more floor space was found. And the alarm on her phone let her know when she needed to head off to the doctor’s office.
Halfway across the country, Tyson was landing in Minnesota, and the team made its way to the Xcel Energy Center to have a practice. It was a weird feeling for him being back after the way things ended. No awkward interactions happened though as the Wild were practicing at TRIA Rink that day. A few players asked Tyson for recommendations on places to eat, which he provided, but he wasn’t joining for the night. He had plans with a couple of his former teammates before things would get heated the next day.
It was nice to get caught up on what all had happened in the last couple months, swapping stories. Some of them may not have been Tyson’s teammates very long, but they were still friends all the same. Before he knew it, it was already 9PM, and he had wanted to check in with AJ before she went to bed. He had checked his phone, already seeing a note from her.
AJ: Hey babe, I’m exhausted and going to bed. Hope you’re having a good night, say hey to the guys for me!
Doing the math, she had gone to bed way earlier than the normal late hours he was accustomed to her keeping. Not wanting to wake her up though, he just let it go even though he really had wanted to talk before bed. But figuring unpacking was taking its toll, he pushed down any concern that may have been growing. He sulked a little bit still as he fell asleep in the hotel room bed in a city they used to live in months before.
AJ grumbled at the light shining in the bedroom as the sun crept up in the sky. Still laying in bed, she grabbed her phone, pulling up Target’s website looking at the selection of curtains. Her few plants would love the light from the east side windows, but she needed to be able to sleep a little later in the mornings than the sun was allowing her. As she scrolled through room-darkening curtains, she was interrupted by Tyson wanting to facetime. Before she answered, she scrambled to get her hair down and in relative place and a lopsided smile graced her face.
“Hey babe, how's St. Paul?” AJ was trying to sound chipper despite feeling off still.
Tyson squinted before smiling again, taking in a very tired looking face, “It’s good, hoping to have some good luck tonight. Are you okay? You went to bed early for you last night. I wanted to tell you to have good dreams of me.” He pouted, then smiled trying to keep the feeling light.
“Yeah, I think the last week and change is just catching up with me, I…” AJ didn’t want to worry Tyson, and decided to keep her doctor’s appointment to herself, “I think I just need to get caught up on sleep. But to do that I think I’m going to have to venture out to Target soon and get some curtains. This place has so many windows! So bright in the bedroom…”
An idea hit Tyson’s mind, but he kept up with the conversation. AJ got out of bed and showed some of the spaces she’d unpacked items in, giving an idea of how things were going. He was looking more and more forward to getting home, the place that she was working so hard to create for them to feel comfortable in.
“You know I’ll help when we get back tomorrow, leave some work for me!” Tyson was trying to delegate some of the unpacking duties to himself to allow AJ some rest.
While she tried to hide her bedhead, AJ forgot that the dark circles were still under her eyes. They were a little worrisome to Tyson. But knowing he was going to have to leave soon for a short practice, he encouraged AJ to go back to bed and hide under the covers. He was more than happy to come home and take care of whatever boxes were left in the next few days. Tyson had to make a compromise that he’d allow her to supervise at least.
With a sleepy smile and a kiss blown at the screen, AJ agreed, and closed out the call, finding her way to the kitchen to take some meds and then found solace in the sheets and blankets of their bed. Within minutes, she was sound asleep - it was the best sleep she’d had in days.
The bright light of day was definitely dimmed by the time AJ woke up, unsure of what time it actually was. Frantically searching for her phone that got buried under the blankets that cocooned her, she found it was late afternoon. Her nap lasted almost a full night’s worth of sleep. The bedroom was still out of sorts, so her task for the remainder of the afternoon was at least to get nightstands set up and unpack some clothes into their closet and her dresser. The thought of putting Tyson’s clothes away crossed her mind, but she figured she’d let him put things where he wanted. With most of the bedroom under control, it occurred to her that she had yet to set up her computer rig, which bothered her a bit. Normally this would have been one of the first things she’d set up, but she just wasn’t feeling it. She wasn’t feeling a lot of the things she was normally interested in lately.
Instead of ignoring it longer though, AJ pulled her desk around in the office, and started setting up monitor arms to mount the multiple displays for her computer. Her cameras and mic were set up. Finally, all of the cables were in place, and her computer was plugged in. Sitting down in her chair, something clicked and things felt right in those moments. Firing up some Fortnite, she lost a few hours, and didn’t realize it until Tyson was texting after the game.
Thankfully, she didn’t miss much. And honestly, not watching the game may have done more good for her mentally than she realized. Had she watched the game, she probably would have just gotten angry at the coaching staff again - the whole idea of “getting better, not bitter” was something she was still working on. Tyson wasn’t even upset at her lack of watching, it was a quiet night, and a loss in a shutout. No one was particularly thrilled with how the game played out. The only thing on Tyson’s mind though was getting home the next morning. A fresh start was something he was craving, and those grand ideas he had for the apartment and AJ just kept getting bigger.
It had been a long, emotional day for Tyson, playing back in St. Paul and all, and honestly he was ready for bed. And despite sleeping most of the day, AJ was yawning as well. Both called it a night, excited that with just one more sleep, Tyson would be on his way back to Buffalo.
While he was up early, AJ slept in again, as it was a bit of a dreary day along Lake Erie. Pulling herself out of bed, she made her way to the kitchen to take her meds again, and started picking up a few things around the place. Boxes were shifted around so that there was more of a walkway between rooms. Her Snow Queen pothos was a little dry, so she watered it a bit. Fidgeting, AJ took a shower and put on some clothes, realizing she’d been in pajamas for almost two days. The text she’d been waiting for finally came in.
Tyson: I’m at the airport, come pick me up?
Hopping in her black Soul, AJ floored it heading to the airport. It’d only been a couple days since she saw Tyson in St. Louis, but it’d been a week since they literally were sharing the same space. Navigating the maze of the airport pickup area, Tyson stood with a tired smile, backpack and Normtec bag in hand. Popping the trunk, he tossed his things in before climbing into the front passenger seat.
With a quick kiss, the two were off, heading back downtown. Making up for all the longing and lack of touch, Tyson’s hand never left the top of AJ’s as she held onto the gearshift. He noticed she didn’t look as tired as she had, a good sign. Pulling back into her spot in the garage of their building, AJ carried Tyson’s backpack, while he carried the few remaining items he had with him as they headed back up to the twelfth floor. Key in the slot, the door unlocked.
“Welcome home, Tyson.”
That glint of mischief in Tyson’s eyes was bright as can be as he set his bag down in the hall and picked AJ up, carrying her into their new space. She squealed, pleading with him to put her down. After finally doing so, he grabbed his bags and put them near the door, taking in everything that AJ had set up. Sort of keeping her promise, there were still a few boxes in the living room as well as the bedroom that needed to be put away.
After giving a mini tour, AJ flopped onto the sofa, watching Tyson still exploring the rooms. Her eyes closed briefly, until the sound of Tyson’s voice, laced with concern, brought her back.
“Hey Eggo? What is this?”
Taking a look at what Tyson was talking about, AJ saw him standing next to the breakfast bar in the kitchen, holding a bottle of prescription pills. The look on his face was definitely one of concern.
So much for trying to keep a secret.
Instead of covering it up further, AJ decided to just put it all out on the table.
“First, this isn’t your doing, this is me. Do not blame yourself when I tell you this,” AJ was worried about what Tyson was going to say, so she was stalling as much as she could. “But a few years back, I had some issues. Nothing BAD, but… you know how this past summer was hard on you? I had a period like that too in college. But where you handled it healthily, I… did not. My roommate found me on the floor of our dorm room crying, room completely flipped upside down. I couldn’t find stamps to mail something, and… yeah. I’m not proud of it. But my roommate and some friends convinced me to see a doc, and I got on anti-depressants. I was on them for a while and was doing pretty well, so I was able to get off of them. But the past few weeks, and again, this isn’t anything you did, but some similar feelings were creeping in, so I decided to go to the doctor about it, before it got to that point again.”
Unsure of what to say, Tyson just listened to AJ talk. When she was finished, he thought for a moment before opening his mouth.
“I didn’t even know you were depressed,” Tyson felt crappy. He couldn't even tell his fiancee was not feeling right. “Is there anything I can do? Or anything I should know?”
As she was owning up to things, AJ continued.
“As far as the depression goes, not too much. The meds will hopefully help get me out of this funk I’ve been in. It takes a couple weeks for them to kick in though. Mainly, just sometimes I want a hug, or maybe need to vent and someone to listen. Pretty much the same ol’ things I normally ask for. But I do have to tell you that there are a few other things going on too. Since I’ve been so tired, and not just from this ridiculous roadie I went on with y’all, but like exhausted tired - I’m having some labwork done to see if anything else is going on that needs to be checked into.”
Tyson nodded, realizing that he wasn’t imagining that AJ had seemed to be more tired lately. And to be honest, he was relieved she was being an adult and getting it checked out. The two talked some more about what she’d been feeling, and what the doctor said in advance of the blood work she had done. It was just going to be a waiting game until Monday when her labs would be completed and maybe would have some answers.
Apologizing for darkening the mood with all the mental and physical health talk, AJ tried to change the subject a little with some talk about some things she wanted to do eventually for the apartment. The smirk came across Tyson’s face as she showed him some ideas she’d found online. He made mental notes of what he was being shown. Those gears in his head kept turning.
Interrupting everyone's thoughts though was the sound of AJ’s stomach growling. She hadn’t eaten much and clearly it was trying to make that fact well known. Excited to do so, the couple finished putting away Tyson’s travel items, and headed to the kitchen to whip up a late lunch together. AJ had to show him where some of the pots and pans were, but he was picking up fast. Tyson made some chicken and vegetables as AJ made a simple sauce to go with it all poured over some brown rice. The two had ample space to move about the kitchen. AJ even had Alexa turn on some music so the two could have their first dance in their new home while the food heated up.
With Tyson holding onto AJ’s hips, and her hands resting behind his neck, the two just swayed and smiled, locking eyes until AJ rested her head into the crook of Tyson’s neck and shoulder. The feeling of his fuzzy cheek against her forehead made everything negative on her mind disappear as they lost themselves for a few minutes and a couple of songs. The sound of Alexa’s timer burst the bubble, but AJ was okay with it as the food smelled amazing as she grabbed the plates from a cabinet, and dished up some for both of them.
Lunch wasn’t eaten in silence, as the conversation led to them talking about the next few weeks. One more game at home, and then it would be the All-Star Game break. A lot of teams had their bye week before the weekend of the game. Instead, the Sabres’ bye week was after. A few of Tyson’s teammates were heading to the Bahamas. He’d been invited, but with all the commotion of moving, he decided against it. AJ thought he’d probably head back to Edmonton to see the family. Instead, he surprised even AJ.
“I was thinking, what about a staycation?”

Chapter One: The Vacation
word count: 3732 warnings: sexual themes, swearing

Tumblr media
You are sitting, waiting on your apartment's bathtub, eyeing the pregnancy test on the counter. You struggle to understand how you ended up in this moment as you nervously bites your thumb nail. On the other side of the closed bathroom door, Aliyah sits against the door, praying that the test comes back negative.
Suddenly, you open the door, staring at your best friend holding your phone. The timer ticks down each second, causing you to become even more frustrated. Suddenly the timer rings out loud as you turn it off, grabbing your phone from Aliyah’s hand. You put your phone on the bathroom counter before grabbing the pregnancy test. You remove the tissue from the stick. You read the word pregnant on the digital pregnancy test.
"Oh, no."
Eventually, Aliyah brings you to the bathroom floor to ask how this happened as you recall every event, starting six weeks ago when you went to Europe.
~~
Roughly six weeks ago.
As you sleep peacefully, Aliyah, your best friend, slips between the cracked bedroom door, and tiptoes to your bed.
“Hey, wake up. Amelia, wake up. We need to get ready for our vacation.”
“No, five more minutes,” You sleepily murmur.
Aliyah tries again, but this time you accidentally kick her in the side. She quietly complains about it attempting to wake you up. You finally managed to rise from the mattress, trying not to lie back down and fall asleep again. You loved to sleep. You try to get a good sleep, failing almost every time. But you do wake up, laying against the headboard and drifting off to sleep. In the end, you fully wake up and go to the kitchen. Aliyah is seated on the couch, watching the morning news to see what’s happening in Denver.
“The only reason I’m going on this vacation is to get over my ex-boyfriend. I need to get him out of my mind.”
“Good. Don’t worry; this trip will be worth it. Just wait.”
“I hope so. When do we need to leave?”
“Be ready by 1; we have to be at the airport by 2:25 so we can be ready. Our flight leaves at 2:50.”
“Okay.”
You make breakfast, then walk over to the couch, taking a seat before scooping up your oatmeal and taking a bite, chewing the mush in your mouth. You and Aliyah watch the news together -- the anchors are discussing current situations -- a break-in occurred in the apartment complex next door a night ago.
“Jeez. People should be more careful, and lock their doors more often. That sucks, but glad everyone was okay.”
“I agree. I’m just happy it wasn’t our complex.”
“Yeah, since this apartment is clean and more expensive.”
You continue to watch the rest of the discussed matter, joking around with Aliyah some more before you decide to go on with your day and not be a lazy bum. As the day enters the afternoon, you pack your suitcase while getting ready. Once ready, you leave your bedroom and go into the living room and kitchen area as Aliyah walks out of her room with her suitcase, setting her luggage down at the door.
“We need to leave in a few minutes,” Aliyah says, checking her watch while sitting on one of the stools by the island counter. She counts each second.
Finally, you get down the rest of the way, including packing and walking towards your best friend, who is — quote patiently end quote — waiting. You playfully roll your eyes, setting your suitcase down. You gather everything with Aliyah before making your way out the door, locking it behind you both. You make it to the elevators first as you push the button with the tip of her finger. Aliyah jogs in after you. This time, Aliyah pushes the first-floor button as the elevator descends smoothly down the shaft.
Once at the airport, Aliyah parks her 2012 Ford Fiesta SE before removing her keys from the ignition. She sits there, getting lost in her mind, trying to think if there’s anything else she needs before you and her get on the plane. You notice your best friend lost in her thoughts before nudging her with your elbow as she snaps out of it.
“Are you okay?” You ask.
“Y-Yeah, I’m fine. I wish Liam were here with us.”
“I know. But you have me.” Aliyah smiles. “We can make it a fun girls’ trip to relax from the stress, and maybe meet someone.”
“Okay. I guess we can. But — never mind. Let’s go! We’re going to be late.”
Nodding, you and Aliyah exit the vehicle before grabbing your luggage from the backseat and walking into the airport. You drop your suitcases off on the conveyor belt, finishing— trying to finish everything before they hop on the plane.
Finally, you remove your backpack and set it in the box on the security metal detector. While Aliyah removes her shoes, bag, phone, wallet, jewelry, etc., she steps through the frame and then makes it out as one of the security officers scans her the rest of the way with a pinpointer detector before letting her move forward as she grabs her things from the box. Next, you remove the items on yourself, including your phone, wallet, jewelry, etc., setting your items in the box, moving forward as you get scanned by one of the security guards like Aaliyah.
You make your way through before grabbing your belongings as you shove your phone and wallet in your pocket. You are sliding your locket over your head, resting it against the skin of your upper chest. Finally, on the plane, you find your seat and shove your suitcase in the cabinet above your seat. You take a seat, sighing. Suddenly, your phone pings as you retrieve it from your back pocket. You see a text from your mom, and you groan in annoyance. Reading it carefully, you look at Aliyah, who is glancing at your phone screen. You show her your phone as she reads the text message carefully.
“My mom wants me to send her pictures and to have a safe flight.”
“Good. At least she acknowledges you. But you should send your mom some pictures.”
“Jeez, grumpy. I will.”
Later that day, the two of you sit in your chairs as the sun begins to set. The sky outside the window has a mixture of colors: red, yellow, and orange - a tint of pink as well. You continue staring at the sky as you get lost in your thoughts. Before doing anything else, you grab your headphones and put them in your ears. You play a Lofi playlist on TheyTube. She Continues thinking. Your thoughts go immediately to your ex-boyfriend, not knowing why he did nothing, bringing you down a dark road. A tear rolls down your cheek, wondering if you’ll meet someone along the way in Europe.
You’re unaware that you’ll be meeting someone later at a club you and Aliyah will be attending.
When night approaches, you fall asleep in your seat as Aliyah is wide awake. The light of her phone screen reflects on her face as she texts her boyfriend, who she’s unable to reach. Aliyah begins to back down, putting her phone away so she can Sleep, so she’ll have the energy to get checked into the hotel after a long taxi ride. The Next morning arrives at the same time the plane lands on the runway of Heathrow Airport, landing safely.
The passengers soon get the signal to leave the aircraft, including you and Aaliyah. You grab your bags, exit the plane, and walk through the tunnel to the main area. Most of the seats— if not all the seats were filled in the airport, just like the plane they were on. Anxiously walking through the crowded airport, your anxiety rises as you continue behind Aliyah. You finally leave the airport to an empty spot, so they can figure out what to do next. Aliyah — the hot woman she is — got a taxi by showing lots of cleavage and faking a British accent as they slide into the backseat. She gives the driver the directions as he follows them through.
You and Aaliyah safely get to Staybridge Suites London, checking in. You enter the room before plopping down on the bed. Sliding your suitcase off the bed and onto the floor, you lay on the duvet. Gaining the courage to get up and unpack, you rise to your feet and grab your suitcase. You set it down on the bed before you, unpacking the essentials for the next day. Suddenly you get a text from your boss as annoyance washes over you. You open the text message and begin reading it.
Boss: I’m in Europe having dinner tonight. Business only! I want you to join. Can you do it?
You read, pinching the bridge of your nose, sighing in annoyance.
“Hey, you okay?” Aliyah asks.
“Yeah, for the most part.”
“Who was texting you?”
You stayed quiet for a few minutes before returning to Aliyah, finally answering her question.
“That was my boss. She’s in the UK and wants me to join her for a business dinner tonight.”
“You should go. I’ll be fine. I want to explore the clubs tonight.”
“I guess I’m going then. My boss is so demanding when it comes to business dinners.”
“Do you know what you’re going to wear tonight?”
“Yeah… no. No, I don’t. I packed non-work clothes.”
Your best friend looks down, biting her lip, thinking about what to do. An idea comes to mind as she walks over to her suitcase, unzipping it before rummaging through her clothes. Aliyah pulls out a blazing sapphire pantsuit. You look at it, nodding. You reach out and grab the suit from her, wanting to try it on. Then, running into the bathroom, you strip from your clothes and slide the pantsuit on. You stride out of the restroom as Aliyah admires her best friend and the suit. She smiles sheepishly.
“You look so hot. Now go take that off. It would be best if you were clean to wear it. Also, I will buy an extra ticket to the club in case you get fed up with your boss and leave the restaurant.”
“Okay, great. Thank you!”
As the day turns to night, you sit dressed up on your hotel bed. You turn your phone on, reading the time as she picks herself off the bed and leaves the hotel room with her keycard and purse in hand.
“You got this.” You encourage yourself.
You put your hand in the air, signaling a cab. The cab pulls up quickly, sliding into the backseat and closing the door.
Once at the restaurant, you enter and stand in line as you see your boss’s face sitting at a table with colleagues around her. Your boss signals for you to come over. You approach the table, taking a seat. You greet your boss Margaret Bowman — including her wife and your colleagues.
Shaking off your boss’s wife’s stare, you glance at your phone and read the time before putting your phone away in your pocket. You pick up the menu and scan the beverages listed, picking a drink. The waitress comes around, taking everyone’s order, including yours. She writes on her notepad before taking off to retrieve the glasses. Everyone continues to chow down on their food as you begin to feel upset.
You knew Aaliyah was at the club waiting in line alone. You had to see your best friend and apologize for abandoning her at the club. You rise to your feet as everyone watches, staring straight at you. You stand before your colleagues, trying to find the right words.
“I’m sorry, Margaret. I’ve been silenced all night, so I’m leaving to meet my best friend at the club. I’m not on this vacation to deal with work. I’m here because I need a break to relax from the stress. Goodbye.”
“Okay. Goodbye then.”
You leave the restaurant and stand on the cement as the wind blows through your hair, causing you to shiver. You make your way to the nightclub as you reach in your pocket. You pull out your phone before looking at the time while walking. The time is currently 9:20 PM as you put the phone away. You walk toward the building with blasting music, flashing lights, and a long line. You cut through the line and catch up with Aliyah as she hands you a bracelet for the club.
“Thank you,”
“You’re welcome.”
“I thought you were inside?”
“No, the club doesn’t open until 10… 30.”
“What?!”
“Yeah. Anyway, what happened at the dinner?”
“Well, I ate some food. I may have drank a little bit. But after a while, I got pissed because I knew this vacation was about us, so I left Margaret and came to find you.”
“That’s sweet.”
As time slowly passes, you and Aliyah finally get into the club. You walk towards the bar and ask for a round of shots. The waiter receives the alcoholic beverages quickly before putting the glasses on a tray and setting them on the table. Aliyah backs the shot of tequila as she groans, squinting her eyes. You do the same thing, and both feel good about it — ordering more rounds of tequila until you are tipsy.
Aliyah brings more drinks from the bartender, who may or may not have a slight crush on her. Aaliyah was drunk like you, slurring your words as you spoke about the disasters you endured over the past few days. That was until someone across the club eyes you as you notice along with your best friend.
“Go to him! …Oh, my God. More drinks!” She exclaims.
You take a breath, moving closer to the male as you and he come face to face. The male extends his hand as you reach for it gently, shaking it lightly. Since you can’t hear him clearly, you drag him to a quiet area before he introduces himself.
“I’m Joseph. You?”
“Amelia.”
He smiles.
You walk towards the exit door as it leads to a staircase. You back against the wall as the railing pokes at your back. Joseph stands in front of you as you get a thought.
“I want you. Naked. Now.”
“So demanding.” He trails off, leaning towards you, whispering in your ear.
Your heart hammers in your chest as you kiss him softly. His lips part, and he kisses you back urgently, his arms wrapping tightly around your body. When you pull apart, you can barely breathe, barely think, barely escape his magnetic pull. His hand runs up your leg, sending another thrill through your chest.
Not long after, you burst out of the elevator and into the hotel hallway, purposefully sashaying up to your door. When you turn behind, you see Joseph staring at you, grinning. Joseph strides up and presses you into your hotel door while you fumble with the keycard. His hands are firm on your hips, lips hot on your neck. After what feels like an eternity, the sensor beeps, and the door swings open.
You grab Joseph by the collar. Without skipping a beat, Joseph’s lips find yours as you stumble inside the hotel room. You slam the door shut. Joseph’s fingers clutch at your waist, his kisses hot on your mouth, your neck, your everywhere. He guides you to the nearby table, pushing you against its edge. He steals a kiss and playfully bites the nape of your neck. He kisses a wander down your body, stopping just above the tops of your breasts. His eyes flick up and lock with yours.
Then, with a smirk, he kneels before you. He bites your waistband and slides your pants down. You feel his tongue nimbly flick between your legs. You drunkenly grip the edge of the table as heat blooms within. Joseph's kisses come quickly, urgently. Each one is more desperate than the last. But before long, his tongue leaves as quick as it came. He pulls back with a crooked smile. He stands, ripping off his shirt, and starts toward the bed. He hardly takes two steps before you close the distance between you.
Your hands are on him once more, kissing every inch of skin, clawing at every inch of fabric. Between your fleeting kisses, you rip off whatever clothing remains, leaving a trail of clothes in your wake. Once you stumble towards the bed, you peel yourself from his enticing body and take him in fully.
Joseph rolls you onto your back, pressing his bare chest flush against yours. His hips buck against you, creating a steady rhythm between you. Slow at first, but gaining speed with each thrust.
You feel every inch of writing with your body, setting your nerve endings on fire. Your fingers dig into his back, feeling his taut muscles flex beneath your touch. You bite your lower lip, and he moans into your mouth. You desperately cling to him, begging him closer with your kisses. With a newfound frenzy, he thrusts his hips against you. Faster. Harder. More fervent than ever before.
His tongue swirls in your mouth, dancing with your own. You rake his back, trying to press him impossibly closer to you—the pressure inside you claws to escape. You ache, you long, you need to melt with him. On command, you match his building rhythm. Pleasure mounts inside at an alarming rate. Your moans grow louder with Joseph's, nearly reaching your peak. You give into him. All at once, your chest explodes.
Stars burst behind your eyes, yet the electricity continues to impossibly grow. All you can see, all you can feel, all you can think... is Joseph. Moans turn into screams, and you ride together in reckless abandon until you can't help but cry out.
"Yes... Joseph!"
Several tussles beneath the sheets later, you're tangled in Joseph's arms. You stroke his chest, running a finger down his exposed skin. You snuggle closer to Joseph, feeling his chest rise and fall beneath your head, and eventually drift asleep. Without your knowledge, Joseph writes down his number in your contacts before getting out of bed and picking his clothes off the floor before slipping out the door, lightly closing it behind him.

Present.
As tears roll down your cheeks, you sit on the floor in front of the bathtub with your knees up to your chest. You're unable to process everything as you finish telling Aliyah every detail. Aliyah fans herself with her hand.
"Damn. That sounded amazing!" She exclaims, tightening her legs together.
"Aliyah, I'm serious. What am I going to do about this? Should I tell him?"
"Who?"
"Joseph. The father of my child."
"Yeah, you should. He should know, considering that's his child inside you."
"I guess you're right. I should, but what do I say?"
"Break it to him slowly. He'll understand."
You nod, grabbing your phone, and scroll through your contacts until you see Joseph's name listed. You stop and stare at it, unable to go on. Your breathing hitches as your thumb shakes before finally pressing the call button on your phone. It rings as you put the phone up to your ear, listening at the tone before it gets picked up at the end. A male voice speaks from the other end.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Joseph. There’s, uh– something happened, and I need to speak to you. Is there any way you could get the next flight out? It’s very important.” You say, voice beginning to crack before hanging up abruptly.
Joseph’s Point of view.
You are seated on the couch in your living room panting as a woman sits atop grinding on your nude hips. You grunt with each jerk from the woman while she bucks her hips. Things get overwhelming when the waves crash over you both, breathing heavily as she moves, sitting next to you. Suddenly, your phone rings out loud as the woman groans, standing and grabbing her clothes. She throws your clothes on your lap. You pick up the phone, answering it. A shaky voice is heard on the opposite end as you sit up, listening closely.
“Hello?” You ask.
“Hi, Joseph. It’s Amelia. We–we met at a club in the United Kingdom.”
“Yeah, I remember you. What’s going on?”
“Well, uh, something happened, and I need to speak to you… in person. Is there any way you could get the next flight out? It’s very important.” Amelia speaks, her voice shaking.
“Uh, yeah. I can get out there. Is— Is everything okay?”
“I don’t know. Can you– can you please, just come?”
“Yes, I can. Booking a flight right now.”
You hang up the phone, and begin looking for flights out to Utah where Amelia lives. You scroll as the woman from earlier comes back and rests her hands on your shoulders before moving them lower and lower as she almost hangs over you, looking at the iPhone sitting in your hand.
A list of flights and the prices sit on the screen as she scoffs, standing up straight. You turn your head, and see the look in her eyes before she gets irritated.
“What did I do wrong?”
“You’re leaving your girlfriend– who just fucked you a few minutes ago — fly out to Utah? What the hell, Joseph. Never mind.”
“Hey, listen.”
She walks to the door but pushes you away before opening it, pulling away from your grasp and closes the door behind her. You stand there defeated but go through with the flight, you didn’t know what was going to happen but you wanted to help out if it turns out to be an emergency.
You purchase a one-way ticket to Utah for the night as you drop his phone on the sofa packing your suitcase, not knowing for sure how long you’ll be there, but you pack for two and a half weeks. After, you rush to your keys and grab your phone as well as suitcase before rushing out of your apartment. You drive to the airport and get ready to wait for the next few hours to catch a flight for something you are scared to approach. You do it anyway.

You ended up joining Tyson in Denver in early August.
He left for his summer training camps or whatever in Toronto about a week after your poolside conversation, and you were surprised to wake up one morning to a text from him only a few days after he touched down in Toronto. He said if you were still interested, he’d be back in Denver after mid-July and that you were always welcome to visit.
After a couple weeks of sporadic texting, mostly Tyson sending you articles on things you needed to see in Denver before you’d even made up your mind, you worked out a time to visit.
Tyson picked you up from the airport, all smiles and sunglasses as he basked in the Denver sunshine. He engulfed you in a friendly hug before taking your bags and throwing it into his back seat.
You expected Tyson to go about the week doing his own thing. You knew he had a strict training regimen and probably had other friends to hang out with, and you didn’t think he’d actually want to do things with you. He had offered his spare bedroom to you and you thought that would be the end of it, but you were sorely mistaken.
The first morning after you woke up in his guest bed, Tyson was waiting for you in his kitchen with a fresh pot of coffee brewing and his best hiking clothes on.
“I thought we could hit up Pike’s Peak today,” he suggested as you poured yourself a cup.
“Oh, you’re coming with me?” You asked, and the smile on Tyson’s face fell.
“I didn’t mean it like that,” you backtracked hastily. “I just don’t want to get in the way of your schedule. I’m perfectly capable of getting around by myself if you have other plans.”
“Please, I have nothing else going on,” Tyson replied, a grin tugging at his lips again. “And what kind of host would I be if I didn’t at least show you around?”
And that was that.
The first couple of days were spent doing all the outdoorsy stuff Colorado was known for. You hiked what felt like a million different trails, but you didn’t mind the strenuous work. It was no secret Tyson was in much better shape than you, but he didn’t complain any time you needed to take a break to catch your breath or snap pictures.
Hiking, sightseeing, and hitting up shops were how you spent your days, with and without Tyson. Usually he needed to slip away for a few hours to either go to the arena or do whatever workout he was instructed to, so you spent that time wandering around his neighborhood. You found a nice little cafe with, probably, the best chai latte you’ve ever had.
At night, Tyson took you out to a new restaurant, ranging from expensive sushi to the cheapest, and greasiest, burgers you’ve ever tasted. Though, you did make him dinner one night to thank him for his hospitality. You got the feeling he didn’t do a lot of cooking in his free time if his pristine kitchen was any indication.
Near the end of your trip, Tyson thought it was mandatory for you to have at least one night out on the town. He even corralled a couple of the guys who were in the city to join them and convinced them to bring their significant others so you weren’t drowning in testosterone all night.
When you emerged from your room in an outfit that accentuated all your best features, Tyson had to mentally slap himself before he started drooling. It almost felt inappropriate to check you out and let his stare linger over your figure, so he only allowed himself a once over before forcing his gaze to your face.
“Are you ready?” He managed to cough out, and you nodded.
The Uber you took to the bar didn’t last long, but the place was pretty busy when you stepped into the crowded space. It was a Saturday night after all.
Tyson led you to the corner where a few of his teammates were already seated, and let them make their own introductions while he disappeared to get you a drink. You learned the names of JT and his girlfriend Sydney along with Mikko and his girlfriend Susanna and also Cale. You recognized Cale from earlier in the week when he stopped by to ride with Tyson to the rink.
Tyson came back a few short minutes later with a round of shots for the table and a vodka sprite for you. The first round passed quickly and were soon followed by three more, one on each of the guys.
You and the other girls danced for a bit, talked for a bit, and by the time midnight was rolling around, you were more than feeling the effects of the alcohol on your body. It was nowhere near what you knew your limit was, but it was enough for you to lean a little too far into Tyson’s side and let your mind drift to other thoughts that didn’t revolve around the topic at hand.
It took a lot of convincing on Tyson’s end to get you to call it a night; all you wanted to do was sing another karaoke song with Syd, but JT and Tyson declared they couldn’t take any more terrible singing from either of you. You had nearly passed out on Tyson’s shoulder during the ride home, but he didn’t mind the comforting weight of your slumped body tucked into his side.
The waters you had before leaving and the relaxing ride back helped sober you up, and by the time Tyson unlocked his apartment door, the fatigue was threatening to take over your body at any minute. Tyson’s arm steadied you as you kicked your heels off before you made your way to the kitchen for another glass of water.
“Thank you for this week, Tyson, I had a lot of fun,” you said, both of you standing against the kitchen island and downing water.
“Any time,” Tyson blushed. “It’s been fun having you here.”
A week’s worth of sexual tension sat between you now, sizzling your body from the inside out, and you took a quick glance at Tyson from the corner of your eye. He was already looking at you.
Maybe it was the alcohol in your bloodstream or the years of pining after him finally coming to the surface, but you set your glass down and moved closer to his body. Tyson stayed leaning back against the granite, motionless as you took a step in front of him and nearly pressed your front to his. He set his own glass down but didn’t let his hands touch you, opting to grip the counter instead.
With one final burst of courage, you leaned forward, giving Tyson a brief moment to turn away before capturing his lips in a soft kiss.
It took a second for Tyson to comply, moving his lips against yours gentle as ever, like he was afraid of ruining the moment if he pushed too hard. You had to grab his hand to place it on your hip, and he squeezed it at your act of reassurance.
“Kiss me better, Tyson,” you whispered, pulling back only far enough to get the words out. “You don’t have to be so gentle.” Your hands felt their way up his chest until they reached his shoulders.
“I just don’t want you to regret this,” he said, letting his forehead rest against yours. “You had a lot to drink tonight.”
“I’m not drunk, Tys. Just a little tipsy but definitely sober enough to know what I want,” you replied. “Now kiss me.”
He searched your eyes for any sense of doubt or any indication that you weren’t going to remember this come tomorrow, but he didn’t find any of that, only a pleading look that was begging you to kiss him.
So he did.
He crashed his lips against yours with renewed energy, the force taking you a bit by surprise while his hands brought your body flush against his. You could taste the remnants of beer on his tongue, but you drank it down greedily, bringing a hand to curl around the nape of his neck.
You made out like teenagers there in his kitchen, fulfilling every fantasy sixteen year old you had, and you felt Tyson harden against your stomach. He only pulled away when your hands drifted down to dip your fingers underneath the waistband of his jeans.
“As much as I want to, we can’t tonight,” Tyson said, his expression almost pained. “I want you, but I also want us both sober.”
You could understand that. Even if you were slightly put out that you wouldn’t be able to feel him, you wouldn’t push it. Tyson was too good of a guy to go into something like this without thinking about the consequences first. You nodded your compliance and made an attempt to step back.
Tyson only let you get a few inches of space between you, but kept his hands firm on your hips. “Maybe tomorrow I can take you on a real date, though? See where it goes from there.”
His suggestion had your stomach twisting, and you matched the smile he was adorning. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
