Match Report: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians
Toby Reynolds, 09/04/2021
What a start to the 2021 IPL season!
Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by two wickets, on the final ball of the match. Mumbai were limited to 159 by RCB and Harshal Patel (4-0-27-5), after looking like they would post a much larger total. They then failed to defend their total, due to a fantastic innings from AB de Villiers.
Early Mumbai Dominance
The match got off to a mixed start. The two Mumbai openers, Lynn and Sharma, struggled slightly in the first few overs as the pitch played both low and slow, nothing new for Chennai. Lynn then proceeded to run out his partner in the fourth over after a mix up meant Sharma had to turn around half way down the wicket and was not even in the shot when the bails were removed. Luckily for Mumbai, Lynn managed to cash in later in the innings, finishing on 49 from 35 before being caught and bowled by Washington Sundar in the thirteen over.
While at the crease, Lynn was partnered by two of the up-and-coming Indian talents: Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Yadav continued his fine form from the India vs England series, scoring 31 off 23 before being dismissed and allowing the keeper-batsman, Kishan, to run riot for the seven overs he was in the middle. Kishan was his usual destructive self and blasted 28 off 19 at a strike rate of just under 150.
RCB Comeback
Enter Harshal Patel.
135/3 was about as good as it got for the Mumbai Indians in the first innings. They then proceeded to collapse to 159/9 from their 20 overs, with none of their next six batsman passing 13. Patel ended with figures of 5/27 from his four overs and took the wickets of: Kishan, Pollard, both Pandya brothers and Jansen. This dominance ended with three wickets from four balls in the final over, while only allowing one run.
A New Top Order
RCB over the past few seasons, have had arguably the strongest top order in the history of the IPL. Gayle, Finch, Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers have all featured, not to mention their talisman and captain, Virat Kohli. However, this season seems to have brought a new era to RCB. They opened with an unorthodox partnership of Washington Sundar (an off-spinning all-rounder) and Virat Kohli (most commonly seen at number 3 in T20 cricket).
Sundar was used as a makeshift opener as Devdutt Padikkal had not fully recovered after contracting COVID-19. I assume he was chosen to open for a few reasons: he is left handed, so could be used to counter match-ups Mumbai may have exploited if it was two right handers at the top of the order (ie. Krunal Pandya’s left arm spin); to be a surprise pinch-hitter to disrupt the bowlers plans and rhythm; and finally to allow the rest of the RCB batsmen to become accustomed to their designated spots and roles they will perform throughout the rest of the season. However, the strategy failed to pay-off, with "Washy” unable to score at a reasonable rate - stuttering to 10 from 16.
The Middle Order Cash-In
After a slow start for RCB, with none of the top three scoring at over 115, Glenn “The Big Show” Maxwell walked to the crease. He really struggled in the 2020 IPL season for Kings XI Punjab and failed to hit a six throughout the whole tournament, but he proved doubters wrong early on in his innings. Maxwell middled his third ball over point for four with a reverse sweep. A few overs later, he nailed a length ball by Krunal Pandya over long-on for six. The ball flew out of the stadium and travelled well over 100m!
Maxwell continued his form and was soon joined by AB de Villiers, who also decided to take apart the bowling attack. Combined, they hit seven fours and four sixes throughout the innings. Maxwell soon fell, however, leaving de Villiers lacking a partner to stay with him: Shahbaz, Christian and Jamieson all came and went. Luckily AB didn’t need a stable partner to blast the ball all round Chennai, ending on a spectacular 48 from 27. He guided RCB to 158/8, before he was run out with two runs needed and two balls left.
It fell to Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj to strike the winnings runs. Siraj padded his first ball for one, before Patel flicked a yorker to Bumrah at short fine leg for a single.
Awards
Man of the Match: Harshal Patel
Although it was his single from the final ball that actually won the opening match for RCB, his five wickets for 27 runs was the real difference between the sides. In the final over, he took the wickets of the dangerous H. Pandya and Pollard in two balls and only conceded one run from the over.
Honourable Mentions:
AB de Villiers
Carried his team right to the end with a match-winning 48, but was unable to stay at the crease to hit the winning runs.
Chris Lynn
After barbequing his captain in the fourth over, he managed to take advantage of his chance at the top of the order with usual opener Quinton de Kock still in quarantine.
Marco Jansen
A solid debut where he almost managed to defend the required seven from the final over and took the wicket of the dangerous Maxwell.

IPL T20 Latest News Australia vs India, 2nd Test: Ajinkya Rahane-Inspired India

IPL T20 Latest News (Cricdaddy.com)
India vs Australia: Ajinkya Rahane hit 112 and 27 not out and bowlers overcame injury concerns to dismiss Australia cheaply as India won the second Test by eight wickets on Tuesday at the MCG.
IPL T20 Live Score
Hungry for redemption, India recorded a win for the ages under an inspirational Ajinkya Rahane, beating Australia by eight wickets within the second Test to level the four-match series 1-1 in Melbourne on Tuesday.
The target of 70 was never an enormous one except for a team that was bowled out for its all-time lowest score of 36 only 10 days back, one can’t fault them if that played at the rear of their minds.
Shubman Gill (35 not out) and skipper Rahane (27 not out) knocked off the runs in 15.5 overs to finish the victory.
This was after the quartet comprising Jasprit Bumrah (2/54 in 27 overs), debutant Mohammed Siraj (3/37 in 21.3 overs), Ravichandran Ashwin (2/71 in 37.1 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/28 in 14 overs) showed maniacal consistency over a period of quite 100 overs on the flattest of decks, where extra bounce became their go-to weapon.
indian premier league
Indian teams, since the turn of the new millennium, have had some memorable overseas victories but when the backdrop and context of this Test at the long-lasting MCG is recorded for posterity, Rahane and his magnificent bowling unit will find quite an honourable mention within the pages of history.
IPL T20 schedule
The Indian teams of yore wont to lose stomach for an honest scrap after humiliating defeats but not this one. It stood out for the way of its comeback within the absence of a genius called Virat Kohli and a magician in Mohammed Shami.
And then, the side was also hamstrung by Umesh Yadav’s calf muscle injury mid-match which reduced a five-pronged bowling attack to four men.
ipl T20
But within the last three and half days, Rahane, first together with his hundred then with solid leadership, showed what Kohli meant when he spoke about ‘New India’.
ipl T20 live score
Along with skills, it had been the mental fortitude that shone through because the team didn’t take an excessive amount of time to bury the ghosts of Adelaide and clear the cobwebs in their minds getting Australia all-out for 195 and 200 in two innings.
For someone whose match game place was being questioned during the last 18 months, Rahane was certainly ‘Captain Cool’ during a new avatar, baboozling the opposition together with his tactical acumen and marshalling of resources.
ipl T20 teams
On the primary day, it had been about assessing the moisture on the surface and giving Ashwin a go before debutant Siraj within the first hour of the match, all the while keeping that leg gully in business for Steve Smith.
It worked wonderfully well then he understood pretty quickly that Siraj, together with his hit-the-deck bowling, could work wonders with the semi-new or old kookaburra when the seam would flatten.
While batting, he was like that bandmaster, who knew the way to conduct his orchestra whether it had been young Gill or the seasoned Ravindra Jadeja.
Rahane rates his hundred during a winning cause at Lord’s six years back as his best effort except for fans, the innings at Melbourne will always be far more precious.
Ipl T20 match prediction
On fourth morning, Rahane, after giving a three-over spell to Bumrah, understood instantly that the old ball isn’t doing anything and took him off the attack to stay him fresh for the second new ball. it had been another great tactical decision as Bumrah bounced Cummins to finish the stand that consumed quite 36 overs.
The second new ball did the trick as Cameron Green (45 off 146 balls) and Cummins (22 off 103 balls) were dismissed after their frustrating 57-run represent the seventh wicket.

Lowest Scores in IPL: List of Lowest Team Total in IPL History
In 11 years of its existence, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen at least once in every edition a team scoring less than 100 runs in an innings. Till date, there have been 35 instances that a team had scored below 100 runs. Such instances were seen the most in IPL 2011 when on 6 occasions a team was bundled out for less than 100. The least was in 2012 which witnessed only one such incident.
Delhi is the team with the most number of scores below 100 with 9. The record for the least number of a team total below 100 belongs to 4 teams -- Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala & Pune Warriors.
On that note let us take a look at the top 5 lowest team totals in IPL history.
#5 70 by Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals in 2014 The 1st leg match between RCB & RR in the 2014 edition of the IPL saw RR winning the toss and electing to field first. RCB had already won 2 out of its 3 previous matches before coming into this match whereas Rajasthan had only 1 out of its previous 3 matches and had lost 2 matches back-to-back.
Tumblr media
RCB started the match in the worst possible way by losing 2 wickets in the very first over with just one run on board. Their situation further deteriorated when they were reduced to 11/4 at the end of the third over. By the 6th over, half the team was back in the pavilion with the score being 22/5. Only three players from RCB managed to cross the double-figure mark -- innings top scorer Virat Kohli (21), Mitchell Starc (18) & Ravi Rampaul (13). RCB were all out for 70. They could only manage to last 15 overs.
Pravin Tambe of RR ripped through the RCB batting line-up with 4 wickets. His scalps included Virat Kohli, Albie Morkel, Ravi Rampaul & Ashok Dinda.
Rajasthan reached the required total in 13 overs. They had lost 4 wickets en route to their 71 runs. Pravin Tambe for his spell of 4/21 was named the Player of the Match. The second leg match between KKR & MI saw both the teams coming into the game high on confidence. KKR had won three consecutive matches in its previous games. Mumbai, on the other hand, were one better than KKR as they had won four consecutive matches, including defeating KKR at Eden Gardens. This match saw Mumbai win the toss and electing to field first.
Apart from Sourav Ganguly, Salman Butt & Ajit Agarkar, no other player from Kolkata could cross the individual score of 5. Kolkata's dismal batting performance saw them last for just 15.2 overs and score only 67.
Shaun Pollock of Mumbai was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. Other Mumbai bowlers -- Dwayne Bravo, Rohan Raje & Dominic Thornley had also picked up 2 wickets each.
Mumbai reached the target of 68 runs in just 5.3 overs. 48 of those runs were scored by Sanath Jayasuriya with the help of 3 sixes & 6 fours. Shaun Pollock for his 3/12 picked up the Player of the Match Award.
KKR's 67 all out remained the lowest team total of the 2008 IPL.Delhi had a horrible start to their 2017 IPL campaign, winning just 2 out of their first 7 matches. KXIP, on the other hand, were slightly better off with 3 victories from their first 8 games. Both the teams desperately needed points on the board to move up in the table. Delhi had managed to defeat KXIP by 51 runs in their first leg encounter.
In the 2nd leg, KXIP won the toss and elected to field first. It would be fair to say that the toss was not the only thing that didn't go Delhi's way that day. Delhi during their batting lasted 17.1 overs and could score only 67 runs. 18 by Corey Anderson was the highest individual score of the innings. Sandeep Sharma of KXIP caused the most damage by picking up 4 wickets.
In reply, KXIP reached the required target in 7.5 overs with Martin Guptill scoring a half-century. Sandeep Sharma for his 4/20 was the Player of the Match.Delhi's bad run in the 2017 IPL continued as they lost both their matches after the one with KXIP where they lost by 10 wickets and recorded one of the lowest team totals ever in the history of IPL.
Mumbai, on the other hand, were having a great tournament, winning 7 out of their first 10 matches. They had already defeated Delhi once in the tournament. Both on paper and current form indicated that Mumbai were poised to win their 2nd leg encounter against Delhi also and they did so.Winning the toss, Delhi elected to field first. Mumbai began their innings with a 79-run first-wicket partnership between Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons. This was followed by two 37-run partnerships between Simmons & Kieron Pollard first and then by Rohit Sharma and Pollard.
Finally, a 59-run partnership between Pollard and Hardik Pandya saw Mumbai end their innings at 212/3. Both Lendl Simmons (66) & Kieron Pollard (63) had scored half-centuries. The Mumbai innings saw a total of 11 sixes and 15 fours being hit.
Delhi, in reply, by the 6th over had seen half their team being dismissed with just 35 runs on the board. The remaining players further added another 31 runs on the board before Delhi wrapped up its innings for 66 runs. This would be Delhi's lowest ever team total in IPL. It was also the 2nd lowest team total in the 2017 edition of IPL. Lendl Simmons for his 63 was named the Player of the Match. As mentioned in the beginning, the 2009 IPL saw just one instance of a team scoring below 100 runs in an innings and that unwanted distinction went to Rajasthan Royals. The 2nd match of the 2009 IPL saw the inaugural champions take on RCB.
RCB had won the toss and had elected to bat first. Dimitri Mascarenhas gave Rajasthan a dream start when he took two wickets in the first three balls of the very first over. He took the wickets of Jesse Ryder & Ross Taylor off two consecutive balls. RCB lost their third wicket of Robin Uthappa (wicket taken by Mascarenhas) with just 17 runs on the board. Apart from Rahul Dravid (66) & Kevin Pietersen (32), none of the other RCB players managed to reach double figures. RCB ended their innings at 133/8 for their allotted 20 overs.
Rajasthan, in reply, were bundled out for 58 runs. RCB players had just managed to hit one four in their innings. The main destroyer was a gentleman named Anil Kumble who took 5 wickets and gave away a miserly 5 runs. Kumble for his brilliant spell was named the Player of the Match. The only instance of a team scoring below 50 runs in an innings happened in IPL 2017 and was by RCB against KKR.
Electing to field first after winning the toss, RCB did well to restrict KKR to a total of 131. Sunil Narine top scored for KKR with 34 runs. In reply, RCB were all out for 49 runs in just 9.4 overs. None of the RCB players made it to double figures with Kedar Jadhav top scoring with 9 runs. For KKR, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes & Colin de Grandhomme took 3 wickets apiece. Coulter-Nile, who picked up the important wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers & Kedar Jadhav, was awarded the Player of the Match trophy.
With this performance, RCB now hold the record for scoring both the highest team total (263/5 vs Pune Warriors in 2013) as well as the lowest team total in the history of the tournament.

IPL play-offs are out of reach for CSK after MI beat them by five wickets
Tumblr media
Mumbai Indians on Thursday snuffed out reigning champs Chennai Super Kings' weak any expectations of making the Indian Super League end of the season games with a five-wicket win in a low-scoring match here.
Selecting to bowl, MI shot CSK out for 97 with pacer Daniel Sams (3/16 from 4 overs) running however the MS Dhoni-drove side's top-request with three speedy wickets in a searing opening spell, and afterward heaved and puffed to upgrade the little objective of 98 with 31 balls in excess.
MI were four wickets down for 33 runs in the fifth over before Tilak Varma (34 not out off 32 balls) and Hrithik Shooken (18) quieted the frayed nerves with a 48-run represent the fifth wicket. MI came to 103 for 5 in 14.5 overs.
Tim David stayed not out on 16 off only seven balls.
With their eighth misfortune in 12 matches, CSK are out of retribution for an end of the season games compartment. They stayed at 10th situation with eight places.
Currently out of retribution for an end of the season games compartment quite a while in the past, MI remained established at the tenth and base spot with three successes from 12 matches.
IPL 2022 POINTS TABLE
Both CSK and MI have two immaterial matches left to be played. It will be the initial time in IPL history that neither MI nor CSK would be essential for the end of the season games.
Shielding 97, Mukesh Choudhary (3/23) struck in the fifth wad of the opening over as Ishan Kishan (6) jabbed well away from his body to see a dainty edge go through to Dhoni behind the stumps.
MI commander Rohit Sharma found a four each off Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh in the following two overs. In any case, Simarjeet triumphed ultimately in the fourth finished, having Rohit gotten by Dhoni.
Choudhary then, at that point, raised any expectations of a CSK wonder by having Daniel Sams (1) and Tristan Stubbs (0) in about three balls in the fifth over.
MI were 36 for 4 after powerplay and Hrithik Shokeen made due after a survey.
Moeen Ali broke the fifth-wicket organization among Varma and Shooken by having the last option in the thirteenth over yet it was past the point of no return as MI required only 17 runs from 7.2 overs.
Prior, Sams destroyed the CSK top-request from which the Dhoni-drove group won't ever recuperate.
Riley Meredith and Kumar Kartikeya contributed with two wickets each while Jasprit Bumrah and Ramandeep Singh got one each as CSK innings collapsed in 16 overs.
CSK's misfortunes were compounded with the non-accessibility of Decision Review System (DRS) because of influence cut at one of the floodlight towers at Wankhede Stadium after the beginning of their innings during which they lost three wickets, with two being LBW choices.
Commander Dhoni played a solitary hand for CSK with a 33-ball 36 not out with the assistance of four limits and two sixes. None of his associates gave him organization in a disgraceful batting show.
Dwayne Bravo (12), who imparted 39 hurries to Dhoni for the seventh wicket, the best association in the CSK innings, was the subsequent best hitter. In any case, for the 15 additional items Mumbai bowlers yielded, the CSK all out would have been a lot of lower.
Eventually, Dhoni ran out of accomplices.
Conway, who played a game dominating thump of 87 in CSK's match against Delhi Capitals, was struck on the cushion off the second wad of the innings bowled by Sams. The umpire raised his finger however the ball hit him just beneath the knee-roll and seemed to be going down the leg. There was no DRS, and Conway needed to go for nothing.
Two balls later, Moeen Ali (0) edged one more Sams conveyance for Hrithik Shooken to take a catch at short midwicket, as CSK were down two wickets for five runs in the opening over.
It was the turn of Bumrah to join the party as he excused Robin Uthappa (1) who couldn't request DRS audit of the LBW choice.
CSK got a touch of alleviation after the 10-ball pandemonium however Sams was not done at this point as he eliminated opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (7) who edged behind the wicket to Ishan Kishan in the primary bundle of the fifth over. CSK were 32 for 5 after powerplay.
After Shivam Dubey was out in the seventh over, Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo dialed back the parade to the changing area, as they took CSK to 72 for 6 toward the finish of twelfth over.
In any case, CSK were starting over as Bravo, Simarjeet Singh and Maheesh Theekshana fell in about eight balls to be decreased to 87 for 9 toward the finish of 15 overs.

Ajaz Patel now finds himself rubbing shoulders with the giants of the game.Ten wickets in an innings is a stuff of fantasy that has come true
Tumblr media
Standing at five foot eight, Ajaz Patel now finds himself rubbing shoulders with the giants of the game.
Ten wickets in an innings is a stuff of fantasy that has come true only twice before in the 144-year history of Test cricket. For a statistic-heavy sport that cricket is, it is truly a rarest of rare feat.
The New Zealand left-arm spinner, playing in only his 11th Test at 33, achieved the remarkable landmark when he captured all 10 Indian wickets over the first two days of the Wankhede Test on Friday. What makes it even more incredible is that it has come in a city which he’s unafraid of calling his “home” in every media interaction.
It’s all the more extraordinary as it has come against Indian batsmen who are arguably the best players of spin bowling in the world, never mind the fact that the match is being played on a rank turner.
Another couple of firsts attached with Patel’s magical exploit is that it’s for the first time a bowler has walked off with all the wickets playing away from home and on the first two days of a Test.
In a way it is a case of life coming a full circle for the Mumbai-born, whose family moved to New Zealand in 1996 in pursuit of better prospects.
“Honestly, it’s surreal and to be able to do that in my career is pretty special. The stars have aligned for me to do it in Mumbai,” said Patel after logging figures of 47.5-12-119-10. “Coming back home to Mumbai, to Wankhede, and producing something like this is quite special. I am grateful to God that he blessed me with such an occasion,” he added.
Patel was only eight then and his father Yunus was in the refrigeration business while his mother Shahnaz taught at a school near their Jogeshwari residence.
Sport hardly came up for discussion at the dinner table and the priority for the family was to get something under its feet in New Zealand. For starters, the father focused on learning English while the son had to get rid of his heavy accent which his classmates in Auckland failed to pick.
Cricket gradually came by and he started off as a left-arm swing bowler. Even as he worked up the ladder, the competition got stiffer and his diminutive frame didn’t help matters. After missing out on a spot in the Under-19 New Zealand team for the World Cup, he stood at the crossroads.
That’s when he decided to take up spin bowling and learned the art from Dipak Patel, the first player of Indian origin to play for New Zealand, the off-spinner who was famously used as a pinch-hitter by the late Martin Crowe in the 1992 World Cup held down under.
Dipak would stand for hours at the crease, making Patel bowl without run-up, trying to build a spinner’s action from scratch. It helped and a career move from Auckland to Central District did wonders to his career. For some time now, Patel is the No. 1 spinner in domestic cricket back in New Zealand. However, it was an injury to Mitchell Santner that saw him make his Test debut against Pakistan in the UAE in 2018.
He bagged a five-wicket haul in the fourth innings but quite astonishingly he still has to pick a Test wicket at home after playing three Tests. That is one of the reasons why New Zealand Cricket have not given him a central contract, as they feel he can only pick wickets in conducive conditions.
The Wankhede terrain wasn’t an unfamiliar venue for the spinner. Former Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell McClenaghan had got him an opportunity to bowl in the nets during the IPL while he was holidaying in the city.
India great Anil Kumble, who had picked a perfect 10 against Pakistan in 1999 after England’s Jim Laker did in 1956, was quick to congratulate Patel. “Welcome to the club #AjazPatel #Perfect10 Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day 1 & 2 of a Test match,” Kumble posted on Twitter.
“It’s quite a special occasion for me and not just me but my family. Unfortunately for me, they're not here because of Covid. I’m in very illustrious company with Kumble sir as well. Great to see his message and his kind words.” said a beaming Patel.

Team India led by Virat Kohli had to face defeat by 10 wickets at the hands of Pakistan in their very first Super 12 match of T20 World Cup 2021. This is India's first defeat against Pakistan in the history of the World Cup. The way the Indian team had already laid down its weapons in this match, is being fiercely criticized. At same time, queries also are being raised relating to team choice.
Questions are being raised on Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, being given a chance in the playing XI, and Ravichandran Ashwin being left out. Hardik Pandya, who has not been able to bowl for some time, was included in the team as a batsman. At the same time, Bhuvi has also not been seen in rhythm for some time. He was a flop in IPL too.

3 Changes India Can Make
Pandya is injured and has not been able to bowl for a long time. In such a situation, Ishan Kishan can be given a chance to balance the team in his place. Experienced Ravichandran Ashwin can be given a chance in place of Varun Chakraborty. Shardul Thakur can be selected against New Zealand in place of Bhuvi who is not running in the rhythm.
Shardul Thakur Provides strength to the lower order
Talking concerning Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he took 11 wickets in eleven matches of IPL 2021. His economy was 7.97. The Pakistani batsmen did not leave any chance to hit Bhuvi's balls. On the other hand, if Shardul is in his place, then the lower order will get stronger. Talking concerning the performance of Shardul within the last a pair of years, he was the best wicket-taker quick bowler. He took twenty three wickets in fourteen innings.
Varun lacked confidence in the match against Pakistan. In the match against New Zealand, there will be a lot of pressure on the team and in such a situation, the team needs a bowler who knows how to bowl in such conditions and India cannot have a better option than Ashwin at this time.

World Test Championship Final: Cricket needs India, win in Australia made Tests come alive, says Richard Hadlee | Cricket News - Times of India
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sir Richard Hadlee, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara MUMBAI: Sir Richard Hadlee, one of cricket's classical all-rounders - and part of a very elite quartet alongside Kapil Dev, Imran Khan and Ian Botham through the 70s and 80s - is looking forward to the ICC World Test Championship final next month. A keen follower of New Zealand cricket and in awe of India's growing bench-strength, the 69-year-old expects a good game starting June 18. He spoke with TOI about the sentiment swirling around this inaugural edition. Excerpts... Q. How's your health been lately? For scores of Richard Hadlee fans, this needs an answer before we move to anything else... Health is very good at the moment. In 2015 I had a routine colonoscopy and was all clear of any potential health issues. I was booked in for another routine colonoscopy in 2018 and a cancer tumour was found. I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer (bowel and liver). Two separate surgeries followed removing a third of the bowel and 15% of the liver - the gall-bladder was also removed. Then I had to deal with five months of chemotherapy which was an ugly experience. I also lost 10 kilos during that period. Today, I have regular check-ups every 3 months. Fingers crossed for the future. Q. From Glenn Turner's team in 1975 to the missed opportunity in 2015 to the outright heartbreak in 2019, New Zealand have come agonizingly close to an ICC world cup before letting it go… We have a proud record in 50 over world cups, Yes, those near misses were frustrating and disappointing but we were so close to winning in 2019 at Lord's. I would go as far to say there were no winners and losers on that day - it was just by a technicality that England won! Both teams scored the same amount of runs in 50 overs and in the super over. The match was tied. In the old days, New Zealand would have won because they lost less wickets in their 50 overs. A fair result would have been both teams sharing the world cup honours or at the very least another super over until a true winner was determined. Q. Do you see the World Test Championship final in the same bracket as winning a World Cup, or probably a notch higher given the format? A chance for New Zealand to make up for past disappointments... The Test Championship is a one-off game. Yes, it is a final, but I don't think either team will be too fazed about it. It is a neutral ground with no home advantage. It is something to look forward to. Both teams deserve to be contesting the final because of their consistency over a set period. It all comes down as to who is better prepared and who adapts better to the English conditions the quickest. The weather may also play a part and if it is cold, that will favour New Zealand. The Duke ball will suit both team's fast bowlers, especially the genuine swing bowlers, and the Kiwis are well-served in that department with Southee, Boult and Jamieson. If the ball seams around off the pitch, batsmen in both teams will be challenged. Both teams have high class batsmen, so it will be an interesting game to watch. Too difficult to call a winner at this stage. Q. India has time and again been bracketed as a country that turned cricket a wee bit garish, thanks to the advent of IPL. Yet, India has upheld its priorities towards Test cricket... There is no doubt India produces a lot of revenue for cricket. Without India, the face of world cricket would be very different, therefore cricket needs India. But India has also made an outstanding contribution to Test cricket - like in all formats. Their Test performances in Australia were outstanding despite that 36 all out blip. They bounced back superbly, and Test cricket came alive again. Their performances in Australia were a remarkable achievement especially with so many youngsters having to come into the team and perform. It showed the great depth of talented players India have in all formats of the game. Q. Martin Crowe can rest in peace, knowing New Zealand's batting legacy is in great hands, thanks to someone like Kane Williamson. Martin had foretold that by the time Kane's done, he'll be New Zealand's greatest ever. Kane, though, doesn't look content at just being NZ's best... Martin Crowe was a great player and thinker of the game. He was the best New Zealand batsman in my time - a touch of class. Greatness is a word that is often misused or overused. Martin earned that badge and wore it well. His assessment of Kane is absolutely right. Kane has earned his stripes to be recognized as a great player now and in all formats of the game. By the time he ends his career he will have all the New Zealand batting records for most runs scored, most hundreds and a world class batting average. Kane has worked on his game and handles pressure extremely well - his temperament is outstanding - he knows his limitations and thrives on his strengths. He keeps his batting game simple, and he has a proven method that is effective. He collects his runs and then he can use his power game by playing proper and at times innovative cricket shots. Through one-day cricket he has expanded his shot selection capabilities - there does not appear to be any obvious weaknesses in his game. His leadership has also grown, and his personality appears to be unflappable and consistent. He is doing a fine job in leading New Zealand. Q. Do you endorse Virat Kohli's brand of cricket - the aggression, that in-your-face thing he brings to the field of play? He is such an antithesis to Williamson. And yet, they are competing neck and neck to be the world's best… All sports at the highest level are about competing. It is finding a way to win a game and gain an advantage over one's opponent. There will always be a fine line as to whether gamesmanship from a player or a team goes too far. I quite like seeing any player expressing himself towards the opposition by having a real presence - it is a form of intimidation that can be unsettling. I see Virat as being a very passionate and competitive cricketer with a strong desire for himself and the team to succeed. He is a proud man and a world class player - a delight to watch. The pressure and expectations on him to 'win' is enormous. Millions idolize him, which puts great pressure on him. Q. Is the very idea of a quintessential all-rounder still existent? We have not seen the likes of Imran, Kapil, Botham, Hadlee happening to world cricket in close to 25 years now - barring Jacques Kallis or to more recent, and to an extent, Ben Stokes... The battle of the all-rounders in the 70's and 80's was a special time. We all competed against each other and there was a strong desire and determination to succeed. My role in the team was to out-perform Imy, Beefy or Kaps. Whilst there was tremendous rivalry between the four of us, there was also mutual respect. I was bowling all-rounder with my bowling being my strength and my batting the weaker part of my game. In one-day cricket, there are all-rounders often called 'bits and pieces' players who do a bit of bowling and a bit of batting. It would be a good debate to say whether they are genuine all-rounders or not, but they still have a role to play. But an all-rounder in Test cricket is the pinnacle in that space. Q. Jacques Kallis ended up becoming legendary. Other than Kallis, can you point out all-rounders post the turn of the century who have impressed you? Jacques Kallis was an outstanding player - an all-rounder of high quality and hugely motivated. He was a wonderful batsman which was his great strength, and his bowling complimented the South African pace attack. Statistically, he is the best all-rounder in history and there will be some strong debate as to who is the best of all time. Sir Garfield Sobers may still have that title though. Over the years players like Keith Miller, Tony Greig, Andrew Flintoff and Shaun Pollock have dominated this space. Today, when I look at all-rounders, Ben Stokes stands out as number one - he is a competitor, a quality batsman and handy bowler who has single-handedly won games for England. Ravindra Jadeja, Shakib Al Hasan, Colin de Grandhomme, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and Jason Holder are all worthy in their own right. Q. What do you make of Jasprit Bumrah? With that kind of an action, does he have a long career ahead of him? Biomechanics have had a lot to say about him and whether he manages to prolong his career to the fullest with that action… Being a fast bowler is a highly unnatural thing to do. Running in from 20 paces, gathering pace, taking off at delivery, bowling a ball at 140-150 kilometres, cartwheeling, twisting and turning, following through and then stopping, takes its toll on the body. Then the process is repeated time and time again. Fast bowling is an explosive sequence of highly coordinated movements - it is about rhythm, timing, and co-ordination and not necessarily about brute strength. All fast bowlers will have their own way of developing and fine tuning their actions to get the best result. Some have simple classical and effective actions, others will have unorthodox and unusual actions, and some will have short or long run ups. Jasprit fits into the unorthodox bowling category with virtually no run up to the crease. His technique in some ways defies belief but has proved to be highly effective. He is what I call a shoulder or strength bowler with all his power and pace coming from the final part of his action as he releases the ball. It would be very difficult to coach his technique to an aspiring fast bowler and I think a coach would refrain from doing from that because biomechanically it could cause problems with injury. Jasprit's longevity in the game is yet to be determined. I suspect he could be more vulnerable to injury problems than those fast bowlers with more classical and 'pure' actions or techniques. Some of his potential injuries could be severe because of the stresses and strains he places on his body. I hope any injuries he may incur will not be potentially career-ending because he is a delight to watch, and he causes batsmen all sorts of problems with his unsuspecting pace, bounce, and ball movement in the air and off the pitch. Q. There is a reserve day in the WTC final. Just like the good old days. A more guaranteed way to derive a result. Yes, we had rest days in the 1970s. Sometimes I looked forward to a day off! Rest days were only good because it allowed especially bowlers an extra day to recover from a heavy workload. The disadvantage of rest days is that the momentum of the game can be lost. Players also had to switch-on again and be mentally prepared to perform and this did not always happen in my time. Not so sure if rest days guarantee extra results. These days we still get a lot of good results in four or five days of play anyway. Q. In the longer run, do you see Test cricket surviving the onslaught of white-ball cricket? Or you reckon, there'll be enough space for every format to co-exist? Personally, I am a great supporter of Test cricket. That's all I knew when I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Yes, one-day cricket gained momentum in the mid 70's but there were not many games back then. In the 80's one-day cricket really took-off. For me, Test cricket still remains the format to play. It is the foundation on which the game is based, and it must be protected and preserved at all costs. If we lose sight of or neglect Test cricket, we will not get it back. Test cricket is a real test of mental and physical fitness; technical, tactical, and skill-set ability and attributes over five days in changing pitch and weather conditions and in different match situations that players need to adapt to. There is no other game like it. One-day cricket is and has been the other option. T20 cricket for me is not real cricket, but a high-risk game with many limitations and few opportunities for most players to excel in. But the financial rewards are great to off-set any disappointments. At least television and fans love T20 cricket and it is an exciting game to watch and enjoy. Q. New Zealand is a small country, with a population of 5.06m - around one-fourth of Mumbai alone. In that, not cricket but rugby has been the country's top sport. To remain competitive year after year in cricket at the global level, with a potentially lesser pool of manpower to choose from - what has been the key to New Zealand's cricketing resolve? As a small country, there are people who say we don't have the numbers of people to choose from to be competitive on the international scene. I see our small population base as an advantage because the best sportspeople are spotted early and will come through the system and be given the resources they need. In bigger countries many talented sports people may not be seen or be overlooked and miss out on an opportunity, simply because there are too many people to choose from. Sportspeople in New Zealand are recognized and picked up very quickly. There is a saying in New Zealand that 'we punch above our weight' in international sport. The fact is, we have produced world record holders, world champions, Olympic gold medallists and we compete in many sports including rugby, cricket, hockey, sailing and yachting, motor racing, netball to name a few. Rugby is our national game and cricket is our summer game. In rugby we are highly regarded, respected and generally top ranked - we win a high percentage of games, more than any other country and secure many victories especially in the final 20 minutes of play with a power game where players impose themselves on the opposition. The aura of the 'silver fern' and black jersey is often intimidating and feared by the opposition which gives the All Blacks a mental advantage. The tradition and history of the game is part of our national culture. Expectations are high from our team. Cricket has always held its own during the summer, especially today. We compete in all formats. Players are full time professional players, and they gain added experience by playing in overseas tournaments such as IPL, BBL and on scheduled New Zealand tours to other countries. There are career paths available for young players to pursue through academies and High-Performance coaching support. There is support staff in specialized areas and with access to technology, it allows our cricketers to gain more knowledge and be better prepared than ever before to achieve at the highest level. Players get well looked after today. They sit in the front of planes whereas we sat in the back of planes - they are accommodated in 5-Star hotels or apartments whereas we were put in motel units. How times have changed! FacebookTwitterLinkedinEMail Source link Read the full article

CRICKET: THE MYSTERY GAME
Cricket game today I am with a fascinating and interesting blog. Today we are going to explore about Cricket. Let’s go!
Cricket is a gentleman’s game and it was a mystery until many were unknown to the game now men’s & women’s both are playing well. A game with a lot of opportunities and a lot of hard work and patience to learn and expertise in it. Nowadays as all, you know Ipl matches are going on in Dubai in which 8 teams are competing for each other to compete and win the title.
Twenty20 cricket (T20 Cricket)
Twenty20 cricket has 20 overs for each side and each bowler can bowl up to 4 overs maximum unlike 10 overs in an ODI match. The highest team score is 263/5 by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors India (PWI) in the 2013 IPL season. The highest individual score is 175* off 69 balls by Chris Gayle for RCB in the same match.
Meanwhile, the British Empire had been instrumental in spreading the game overseas, and by the middle of the 19th century it had become well established in Australia, the Caribbean, India, New Zealand, North America, and South Africa In 1844, the first-ever international match took place between the United States and Canada. In 1859, a team of English players went to North America on the first overseas tour.
MCC quickly became the sport’s premier club and the custodian of the Laws of Cricket. New Laws introduced in the latter part of the 18th century included the three stump wicket and leg before wicket (lbw).
The game underwent major development in the 18th century to become England’s national sport. It’s successfully underwritten by the twin necessities of patronage and betting. Cricket was prominent in London as early as 1707 and, in the middle years of the century, large crowds flocked to match on the Artillery Ground in Finsbury. The single wicket form of the sport attracted huge crowds and wagers to match, its popularity peaking in the 1748 season. Bowling underwent an evolution around 1760 when bowlers began to pitch the ball instead of rolling or skimming it towards the batsman. This caused a revolution in bat design because, to deal with the bouncing ball, it was necessary to introduce the modern straight bat in place of the old “hockey stick” shape Cricket has had a broad impact on popular culture, both in the Commonwealth of Nations and elsewhere. It has, for example, influenced the lexicon of these nations, especially the English language, with various phrases such as “that’s not cricket” (that’s unfair), “had good innings” (lived a long life), and “sticky wicket” The wickets are sets of three small, wooden posts that are at each end of a rectangle of short grass called ‘the pitch’, which is 22 yards long, cricket is played in the countries where cricket is most popular compete in international matches (games between countries) that last up to 5 days, which are called Test matches. Those countries are England, Australia, West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. The West Indies are a group of Caribbean countries that play together as a team. Several other countries have more junior status. The test match idea was invented by teams from England and Australia in the 19th century. Ireland and Afghanistan are the new teams that can play Test cricket. The pitch is inside a much larger oval of grass called the ‘area of play’. The area of play is a 30-yard circle inside the cricket ground or stadium. When a player is out, a teammate will replace them in the field. When a team no longer has enough “not-out” players left to score, then the other team gets the chance to try to score. In shorter games of cricket, a team may also have to stop batting when the ball has been thrown to their players a certain number of times. After both teams have had enough chances to score, the team with the most runs wins. “On a sticky wicket” (aka “sticky dog” or “glue pot”) is a metaphor used to describe a difficult circumstance. It originated as a term for difficult batting conditions in cricket, caused by a damp and soft pitch.
The rise of limited-overs cricket
Cricket entered a new era in 1963 when English counties introduced the limited overs variant. As it was sure to produce a result, limited overs cricket was lucrative and the number of matches increased. The first Limited Overs International was played in 1971 and the governing International Cricket Council (ICC), seeing its potential, staged the first limited overs Cricket World Cup in 1975. In the 21st century, a new limited-overs form, Twenty20, made an immediate impact. On 22 June 2017, Afghanistan and Ireland became the 11th and 12th ICC full members, enabling them to play Test cricket.
The 19th century saw underarm bowling superseded by first roundarm and then overarm bowling. Both developments were controversial. The organization of the game at the county level led to the creation of the county clubs, starting with Sussex in 1839. In December 1889, the eight leading county clubs formed the official County Championship, which began in 1890.
Nowadays there are many apps to look for the Live score and all the updates of cricket news and everything about cricket tournaments and matches live going on.
History of  Cricket
It began in the 13th century played in the streets as starting days of this game after it gradually moved to a 22 yard where 11 players played as batsmen, the wicketkeeper, bowler, and all-rounder.
How Cricket is played?
Cricket is played with bat and ball in which two teams are there of 11 each from both sides.  There are bat, ball and stumps, and many others wearing equipment like helmet, gloves, and pads. When the stumps are hit the player will get out & the next player comes in. It was invented and started as a game in England by some street children in their nearby places where they would use to gather and play. Cricket is a game where all play with a lot of enthusiasm and joy and sportsmanship.  Most expensive worth games in the World. First laws of cricket were passed in 1744 with some new innovative ideas like LBW, hitting the middle stump.
Present Cricket World
Though Cricket became a popular international game among men it becomes playable for women 10 years ago only. Somewhere in 1926, the women’s cricket foundation was made. Now women can actively participate in the International Cricket matches very proudly. Their active participation has contributed to the economy as well. This year as it was  Covid-19 as there are no fans and audience so it was like utter silence, & the President of South African Cricket Association, wrote a letter to the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC, England) secretary, F.E. Lacey. Bailey suggested the formation of an ‘Imperial Cricket Board’. In the letter, he suggested that the board would be responsible for the formulation of rules and regulations which will govern the international matches between the three members. Now some people are getting a chance as virtual fans.
In cricket there are two special kinds of average, used to measure how good a player is:
A batsman’s batting average is the number of runs he has scored in a period (such as a year or his whole career), divided by the number of times he was got out in the same period. A good batsman has a high batting average. The highest T20 average for a batsman who has played at least 20 innings is 70.66 by Chris Harris.
A bowler’s bowling average is the number of runs that have been scored while he was bowling, in a period, divided by the number of batsmen he has got out in the same period. A good bowler has a low bowling average. The lowest T20 bowling average for a bowler who has bowled at least 500 balls is Mushtaq Ahmed with 13.80.
There are so many apps also to know about the cricket tournament updates and many match summaries of all the matches. I want to discuss one of the apps. Let’s go
Laws and gameplay:
In cricket, the rules of the game are specified in a code called The Laws of Cricket (hereinafter called “the Laws”) which has a global remit. There are 42 Laws (always written with a capital “L”). The earliest known version of the code was drafted in 1744 and, since 1788, it has been owned and maintained by its custodian, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in London.
Playing area:
In the approximate center of the field is a rectangular pitch (see the image, below) on which a wooden target called a wicket is sited at each end; the wickets are placed 22 yards (20 m) apart. The pitch is a flat surface 10 feet (3.0 m) wide, with very short grass that tends to be worn away as the game progresses (cricket can also be played on artificial surfaces, notably matting). Each wicket is made of three wooden stumps topped by two bails.
Batting runs, and extras
Batsmen take turns to bat via a batting order which is decided beforehand by the team captain and presented to the umpires, though the order remains flexible when the captain officially nominates the team. Substitute batsmen are generally not allowed, except in the case of concussion substitutes in international cricket.
To begin batting the batsman first adopts a batting stance. Standardly, this involves adopting a slight crouch with the feet pointing across the front of the wicket, looking in the direction of the bowler, and holding the bat so it passes over the feet and so its tip can rest on the ground near to the toes of the back foot.
A skilled batsman can use a wide array of “shots” or “strokes” in both defensive and attacking mode. The idea is to hit the ball to the best effect with the flat surface of the bat’s blade. If the ball touches the side of the bat it is called an “edge”. The batsman does not have to play a shot and can allow the ball to go through to the wicketkeeper. Equally, he does not have to attempt a run when he hits the ball with his bat. Batsmen do not always seek to hit the ball as hard as possible, and a good player can score runs just by making a deft stroke with a turn of the wrists or by simply “blocking” the ball but directing it away from fielders so that he has time to take a run.
Match structure and closure:
the team captains (who are also players) toss a coin to decide which team will bat first and so take the first innings. Innings is the term used for each phase of play in the match. In each innings, one team bats, attempting to score runs, while the other team bowls and fields the ball, attempting to restrict the scoring and dismiss the batsmen. When the first innings ends, the teams change roles; there can be two to four innings depending upon the type of match. A match with four scheduled innings is played over three to five days; a match with two scheduled innings is usually completed in a single day. During an innings, all eleven members of the fielding team take the field, but usually, only two members of the batting team are on the field at any given time. The exception to this is if a batsman has any type of illness or injury restricting his or her ability to run, in this case, the batsman is allowed a runner who can run between the wickets when the batsman hits a scoring run or runs, though this does not apply in international cricket The order of batsmen is usually announced just before the match, but it can be varied.
Innings
An innings may end early while there are still two not out batsmen:
the batting team’s captain may declare the innings closed even though some of his players have not had a turn to bat: this is a tactical decision by the captain, usually because he believes his team have scored sufficient runs and need time to dismiss the opposition in their innings
the set number of overs (i.e., in a limited-overs match) have been bowled
the match has ended prematurely due to bad weather or running out of time
in the final innings of the match, the batting side has reached its target and won the game.
Overs
The Laws state that, throughout an innings, “the ball shall be bowled from each end alternately in overs of 6 balls”. The name “over” came about because the umpire calls “Over!” when six balls have been bowled. At this point, another bowler is deployed at the other end, and the fielding side changes ends while the batsmen do not. A bowler cannot bowl two successive overs, although a bowler can (and usually does) bowl alternate overs, from the same end, for several overs which are termed a “spell”. The batsmen do not change ends at the end of the over, and so the one who was non-striker is now the striker and vice versa. The umpires also change positions so that the one who was at “square leg” now stands behind the wicket at the non-striker’s end and vice versa.
Player roles
During normal play, thirteen players and two umpires are on the field. Two of the players are batsmen and the rest are all eleven members of the fielding team. The other nine players in the batting team are off the field in the pavilion. The image with the overlay below shows what is happening when a ball is being bowled and which of the personnel are on or close to the pitch.
While the umpire (1) in shot stands at the bowler’s end of the pitch, his colleague stands in the outfield, usually in or near the fielding position called “square leg”, so that he is in line with the popping crease (7) at the striker’s end of the pitch. The bowling crease (not numbered) is the one on which the wicket is located between the return creases (12). The bowler (4) intends to hit the wicket (9) with the ball (5) or, at least, to prevent the striker (8) from scoring runs. The striker (8) intends, by using his bat, to defend his wicket and, if possible, to hit the ball away from the pitch to score runs.
Fielding
Of the eleven fielders, three are shot in the image above. The other eight are elsewhere on the field, their positions are determined on a tactical basis by the captain or the bowler. Fielders often change positions between deliveries, again as directed by the captain or bowler. If a fielder is injured or becomes ill during a match, a substitute is allowed to field instead of him, but the substitute cannot bowl or act as a captain, except in the case of concussion substitutes in international cricket, The substitute leaves the field when the injured player is fit to return. The Laws of Cricket were updated in 2017 to allow substitutes to act as wicket-keepers.
Bowling and dismissal
Most bowlers are considered specialists in that they are selected for the team because of their skill as a bowler, although some are all-rounders and even specialist batsmen bowl occasionally. The specialists bowl several times during an innings but may not bowl two overs consecutively. If the captain wants a bowler to “change ends”, another bowler must temporarily fill in so that the change is not immediate.
Fast bowlers, needing momentum, take a lengthy run-up while bowlers with a slow delivery take no more than a couple of steps before bowling.  Other fast bowlers rely on a mixture of speed and guile by making the ball seam or swing (i.e. curve) in flight. This type of delivery can deceive a batsman into miscuing his shot, for example, so that the ball just touches the edge of the bat and can then be “caught behind” by the wicket-keeper or a slip fielder. At the other end of the bowling, the scale is the spin bowler who bowls at a relatively slow pace and relies entirely on guile to deceive the batsman. A spinner will often “buy his wicket” by “tossing one up” (in a slower, steeper parabolic path) to lure the batsman into making a poor shot. In between the pacemen and the spinners are the medium-paced seamers who rely on persistent accuracy to try to contain the rate of scoring and wear down the batsman’s concentration.

Best cricket players of all timeThere are three formats in the cricket tournament

List of top 6 players in  the  cricketing format
(A) Top batsmen1 Steve Smith
Steve Smith is one of the best players in the test match.  Former captain of Australia.
The best Test batsman at present, Steven Smith’s career redemption is a story for the ages. Having made his name initially as a potential leg-spinner who could bat a bit, there was immense criticism, even among those in Australia over the quality of his selection during his early days in international cricket.
It was the 2007-08 domestic season when Smith made his debut across formats. His boyish charm and the run-up to the crease even drew comparisons with the legendary Shane Warne who had just retired from international cricket a season or so before. Smith’s talent was evident but he was too raw for the big stage. In a couple of years, the national call-up came with the limited-overs debut happening in February 2010. The tour of England later that year saw his initiation in the longest format as well.
Smith started as a player who could bat at 7 or 8 apart from bowling his leggies. There was a feeling among the pundits that the bloke had more talent with the bat than with the ball. There was certainly a lot of courage about Smith the batsman and he started working more consciously on it. In the coming years, he would be proved right in a big way.
A young Smith was at the forefront of Australia’s victorious World Cup win in 2015. Consistent through the tournament, it was his antics at the business end that was laudable. His last five knocks in the tournament were all fifty-plus scores and he became the first player to have such knocks in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final of the World Cup. It wasn’t his first World Cup though, as he had played in the 2011 edition but more as a bowling all-rounder who could bowl leg-spin. As a premier player, 2015 was his first real test and he passed it with flying colors. Come to the 2019 tournament, Smith will be the glue around which Australia’s batting revolves.

A spunky, chubby teenager with gelled hair shot to fame after leading India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup at Kuala Lumpur in early 2008. In an Indian team filled with saint-like icons worthy of their own hagiographies, Virat Kohli, with his most un-Indian, ‘bad-boy’ intensity, would clearly be an outcast.
Grind through the ranks He soon joined the senior Men in Blue in Sri Lanka, come August 2008. He played some commendable knocks in his extended run as an opener, as India went on to win the ODI series. However, the established and formidable pair of Tendulkar and Sehwag kept Kohli out of the team
The 20-year-old continued to impress for Delhi and dominated attacks, clearly demonstrating that he belonged at a much higher level; that junior cricket was beneath his standards. Kohli then traveled to Australia in 2009 for the Emerging player’s tournament and stamped his authority all over the bowling attacks. He added ‘big-match temperament’ to his résumé too, lacing a fluent hundred in the final against South Africa, and guiding his team to a clinical victory. The young prodigy, barely old enough to receive his man-of-the-match champagne, ended the tournament with 398 runs from 7 outings with two centuries and two fifties, ensuring that he remained fresh in the selectors’ minds.
Cementing a national spot The selectors had no choice but to give Kohli another go on the Indian side, and this time he strung together many impressive scores. In the World Cup final of 2011, the biggest stage of them all, Kohli, along with his Delhi teammate Gautam Gambhir, pulled off a largely underrated rescue effort with an 83-run stand after losing the openers early. This knock played a crucial role in setting the platform for MS Dhoni’s fabled knock of 91*, which eventually won India the World Cup on that enchanting evening in Mumbai.
In the hangover of the World Cup euphoria, Kohli continued to take giant strides in the limited-overs format. After a series each against the Dukes ball and the SG ball, it was now time for his trial against the Kookaburra Down Under. In the first two Tests, he seemed to lack the technique to play in Australia, maintaining his low stance on the bouncy tracks. He also had a rather restricting trigger movement with his front-foot routinely coming across towards off-stump, thereby hindering the necessary movement to play back-foot shots such as the pull and the cut.
A baptism by fire Down Under The selectors and the captain persisted with him going into the 3rd Test, and he delivered a break-through performance on a bouncy Perth wicket – an impressive 75 – where a visible change in technique was visible. He managed to stand tall, with a more open stance and exhibited the back-foot shots in his repertoire during the course of the innings. The volatile Kohli managed to overshadow his impropriety in conduct with his performance in the final Test of the series. While he grappled and clawed his way into the Test side, he went on a record-breaking spree in ODIs: the Indian record for the fastest to multiples-of-thousand runs in ODIs, culminating in the world record for the fastest to 9000 runs in ODIs. He was also the highest run-scorer for India in ODIs for three consecutive calendar years – 2010, 2011, and 2012 and won the ICC ODI cricketer of the year award in 2012.
That break-through inning… We remember the accolades, but where did it all begin? There’s always the one innings that made the world sit up and take notice; the 86-ball knock which he started as a brash boy, but ended as a man. Chasing an improbable target of 321 off 40 overs to stay alive in the tournament, he laid into the Sri Lankan bowlers and carted his way to 133*, getting India home with more than 2 overs to spare, practically pulling them out of the airport after M.S. Dhoni.
King Kohli had arrived. The king of the run-chase, and a plethora of ODI records in the modern age. He is arguably one of the finest batsmen that the country has produced. He has even drawn comparisons with the great Sachin Tendulkar. With a firm bottom-hand grip and the ability to smash balls landing on a particular area to any part of the ground at will and without much risk, Kohli has carved a niche of his own in Indian cricket.
Kohli rose to fame when he captained India’s victorious World Cup Under-19 side in Malaysia, in 2008. He also went on to become the captain of the team in 2012 and has continued to remain so since then. Devoid of noteworthy performances in the first edition, his domestic form still won him an India ODI cap on the tour to Sri Lanka in the same year.

3 Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson is one of the best players with the best in T20 matches. Current Captain of the New Zealand team after Martin Guptill.
Arguably New Zealand’s finest batsman since the legendary Martin Crowe, Kane Williamson had been a wonder kid since his teenage days. His exceptional talent included the rare Non-Asian skill to play quality spin apart from being adept against fast bowling. It would be fair to say the Williamson family boasted of sports freak all around. While his father had played cricket at certain age groups, his mother was a fine basketball player and his sisters excelled in volleyball. His leadership skills were in abundance, just like his batting. Along expected lines, the year 2010 saw Williamson donning the Kiwi colors, making his international debut in Sri Lanka for the tri-series that also featured India. The Test call-up came and it was for a challenging trip to India but Williamson made a massive statement but racking up a century on debut.
The following years saw Williamson scoring runs albeit not at the highly consistent levels that one expected from him. That changed in 2014 though during the ODI home series against India when he also broke a heap of records. With fifty-plus scores in all five games, he became only the second batsman in ODI history (after Yasir Hameed) to achieve this feat. He also became the fourth New Zealand player to hit five or more consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODIs. His five fifty-plus scores are also the most by an NZ batsman in a bilateral series.
If 2014 was a superb year for Williamson, it was 2015 that put him officially into the big league of batsmen. He notched up 1172 runs in Tests at a staggering average of 90 apart from amassing a gargantuan 1376 runs in ODIs at a strong average of 57. More than the numbers, it was the effortless ease with which he handled bowling attacks that impressed everybody. 2015 was also a historic year for New Zealand as they made their first-ever World Cup final appearance.
It happened in early 2016 after Brendon McCullum announced retirement from all forms of international cricket, just before the World T20 in India. It was a huge role but Williamson took to it fairly well, much like people had expected him to. Still, a long way to go as captain in terms of success but the one thing that stands out about his leadership skills is his ability to be tactically street-smart.
Williamson’s batting is a purist’s delight – what with his classy strokeplay blending nicely with his footwork and gritty temperament. You could argue that his role is that of a sheet anchor around which the other Kiwi batsmen revel. However, if he can raise his white-ball skills a notch upward, he could be a real phenomenon in world cricket. This is not to suggest that he hasn’t produced impact knocks in the shorter formats. It has been quite a few knocks in that regard and he had shown in the 2017 IPL that he can adapt to that role easily.
IPL through the years
He who is often referred to as a classical Test batsman was first signed by an IPL franchise in 2015. The Sunrisers Hyderabad had him in their kitty for less than $100,000, and in the first season, he didn’t return the dividends – particularly given the limited opportunities he had in an unfamiliar lower-middle order position. Against all odds, the Kiwi skipper exhibited a different dimension in his batting, hammering 735 runs at 52.50 and a strike-rate of 142.44. With Warner out of contention for any leadership role, Williamson is likely to continue with the role in the 2019 season and certainly remains a vital cog in the batting order of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

6 Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is the hero of Indian cricket and the top leading batsmen in the team. Former captain of India and now as Vice-captain.
Talent – an apparently heartening term that has followed Rohit Sharma around like a shadow; even haunted him at times. It seems to be a burden that the cricketing fraternity has enforced upon him and, after more than a decade in the national setting, he has been weighed down by the label.
Harsha Bhogle spoke of whispers in the domestic circuit; of coaches and scouts spotting the effortless, free-flowing stroke-play of a Mumbai teenager. he shot to the limelight when he scored a brisk unbeaten triple-hundred at the Ranji level.
He was called on in a last-minute emergency replacement to play a league game against the hosts. After a lackluster start to the Indian innings, the 20-year-old strode out into Kingsmead and stroked his way to a fluent half-century against the likes of Pollock, Ntini, and Morkel as though he were having a net session. He showed startling maturity under pressure to survive till the end of the innings, escorting India to a respectable total that they ultimately defended, knocking South Africa out of the tournament in their own backyard.
Indians have a thing for like-for-like replacements. More specifically, they have a thing for spotting similarities with the days gone by. he was subsequently picked for the ODI team. He made an impression in the CB series Down Under, playing some crucial cameos against stalwarts like Brett Lee and Stuart Clark, and a more-than-competent Sri Lankan attack. These inspired away performances in the World T20 and the CB series caught the eye of the selectors and warranted him an extended run with the limited-overs side.
In the first two years of the IPL, his performance stood out, as he made over 350 runs each time for the Deccan Chargers and proved his worth to his franchise. He was then transferred to the Mumbai Indians franchise in 2011 and has been one of their most consistent batsmen over the years. However, this turned out to be another false dawn as he followed it up with a string of low scores in the CB series in Australia and a nightmare tour of Sri Lanka with 14 runs in 5 innings, including 2 ducks. He had already been given a more-than-extended run and was starting to build an unenviable reputation of a frustratingly fascinating player.

(B) Top 6 Bowlers1 Pat Cummins
One of the best bowlers from the Australian team and an all-rounder also. Best bowling skills in the present cricket world. A fiery Pat Cummins set the international arena ablaze with his Test debut in 2011 on a juicy Wanderers pitch. A seven-wicket match haul including a six-for in the second innings gave Australia a chaseable score which they eventually gunned down, albeit by a narrow margin. He was impeccably complete, that too at such an early age which promised so much. Tragedy struck though, which meant that he didn’t play a single Test match for about six years.
Cummins has no real weakness in his skill set but a fragile body meant that he couldn’t capitalize on the sensational debut that he had. Although he did feature in white-ball cricket during this Test hiatus, there too he wasn’t a regular starter with injuries inevitably consuming him at frequent intervals. It did seem like such a powerhouse of talent would end up combusting in the flame of injuries. However, the 2016-17 season saw Cummins upping his fitness levels in a big way. After a few years of constant preparation, it seems like the body was finally starting to be stable.
He was picked for the Test tour of India in early 2017 and this was an examination for him in all aspects. The sub-continent isn’t the best place for a fast bowler due to the pitches and the temperature levels. Add to that Cummins’ inherent fragility and there were concerns on how he would pull up. But he put all that to rest by featuring in two Tests back to back and seemed quite hungry for more. The IPL season that year saw him play more competitive cricket and the presence of Indian pace great Zaheer Khan helped Cummins mold himself a lot better.
Despite the progress, Cummins still had to consistently keep the good work going for putting his career on track. The Bangladesh tour saw Cummins progressing well and after proving his fitness over a long period of time, he got the nod for the all-important Ashes series at home in 2017-18. It was the ideal opportunity to make a statement and Cummins didn’t let it go. He had an excellent series, often claiming crucial breakthroughs, and also made invaluable contributions with the bat. Australia regained the urn and the cricketing world was convinced that Cummins is here to stay for long.
Ever since that series, Cummins has progressed to becoming the premier strike bowler of the national team across formats with the ODI series win in India in 2019 being a massive achievement. Fitness was the only concern anyway and his determination has allowed him to know his body better. Barring injuries, there is nothing that can stop him from a legend.

2 Trent Boult
Trent Boult is one of the fast bowlers with the best wickets in Test matches. He is playing from New Zealand in the International team. Boult was in and around the New Zealand team but only made his Test debut in Hobart in December 2011.
Boult’s first Test wicket was Michael Hussey as who picked up four wickets in the match and helped New Zealand win a Test in Australia for the first time since 1985. He has had a fairly good start to his career as he has picked up wickets against England, West Indies, India, and Sri Lanka. His moment of glory came in the second Test against West Indies at Basin Reserve, where he got his first 10-wicket haul. That performance also gave Boult his first Man of the Match award. He continued to have a great time in Test cricket as he picked up 10 wickets in the two games against India, which New Zealand won 1-0. and was a regular member of the Test side and was always amongst the wickets. Due to his ability to swing the ball, both ways at pace, the selectors named him in the squad for the 2015 World Cup. Boult finished the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2015 World Cup with 22 scalps, enhancing his reputation as one of world cricket’s exciting new talents with the ball. His high point came in the group stage victory over Australia, where he demolished the eventual champions with 5 for 28.

Few of his other impressive spells came against West Indies at Wellington and Afghanistan at Napier where Boult claimed four wickets and three wickets respectively. The match where Guptill scored a double ton was one of them and the other one was against Afghanistan where the Blackcaps steamrolled the opposition by six wickets. Although Boult has played only one World Cup, he has become one of the integral parts of the New Zealand bowling attack. Safe to say, he’s their spearhead at present and is going to play an important role in New Zealand’s World Cup campaign in 2019.

4 Stuart Broad
Stuart Broad is one of the best bowlers from England with the fast pace he delivers many wickets and performs well for his team. He toiled hard on his Test debut in Sri Lanka as he showed admirable heart in adverse circumstances. and starred with both bat and ball during New Zealand and South Africa series, but he was at his best during England’s victorious 2009 Ashes campaign, had fired a warning shot against the Aussies. It was in the fifth Test at the Oval that Broad churned out his best-ever performance. His spell of 5/37 ruined Australia’s chances and helped England to victory.
He also scored a century at Lords in the year 2010, something that his father had never achieved. It was his first-ever century in any form of cricket and came when England needed it the most but he well played in his team. His team was struggling at 102 for 7 against a brilliant Pakistan bowling attack and his 332-run world record stand with Trott helped England recover and seal the series. And had a very good Ashes in 2013 in England, he ended the series with 22 wickets. He was the Man of the Match in the fourth Test at Chester-le-Street, where he had match figures of 11/121. He bowled a fiery spell and brought England back in the match as he helped them retain the Ashes. This ugly controversy, which saw sparks fly all round, set the tone for the return Ashes Down Under. Infuriated by Broad’s behavior, the Australian press launched a scathing attack on him with the public hopping onto the bandwagon as well. Never the one to back down from a challenge, the lean mean pace machine fought fire with fire, picking up 6 Aussies wickets in the first innings at the Gabba. However, it could not prevent his side from crashing to a cataclysmic loss. Broad had an indifferent tour of Australia, which was cut short due to injury. He started with a half-century in a warm-up game, and overall took 6 wickets over the two games against Western Australia and South Australia In the first Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, he fell for a golden duck in England’s innings, the final victim of Peter Siddle’s hat-trick. Wicketless in Australia’s first innings, he had Simon Katich caught in the second as the Test was drawn. In the second Test at Adelaide, he finished Australia’s first innings off with the wicket of Brad Haddin, but a stomach muscle injury limited his participation in the second where England won by an innings. That injury was revealed to be a muscle tear, and it ruled Broad out of the remaining three Tests and the one-day series that followed. He was not missed for the rest of the Test series but he was for the ODIs because England was plagued by injuries throughout the 6–1 series defeat. Cricket Records

5 Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the fascinating bowlers in Indian Cricket.  Best bowling in every format. A skilled player with a superb yorker. Bumrah built his reputation by being different. A short run-up followed by a snappy bowling action with his arms rigid as bones, where it seems like everything could go wrong, right up until the point when it doesn’t. His reliability makes surprisingly started to stand out amid the mayhem of the IPL. Under the guidance of a death-bowling expert like Lasith Malinga, Bumrah flourished. He made his debut in the 2013 edition of the competition, where he barely got much game time, but would quickly go on to become a regular in the MI playing eleven in the seasons to follow, surprising batsmen with the pace he generated off his wrist.

“Cricket owes much of its appeal and enjoyment to the fact that it should be played not only according to the Laws but also within the Spirit of Cricket”.
The Preamble is a short statement that emphasizes the “Positive behaviors that make cricket an exciting game that encourages leadership, friendship, and teamwork.” The major responsibility for ensuring fair play is placed firmly on the captains but extends to all players, umpires, teachers, coaches, and parents involved.
The umpires are the sole judges of fair and unfair play. required the Laws to intervene in case of dangerous or unfair play or cases of unacceptable conduct by a player. Previous versions of the Spirit identified actions that were deemed contrary (for example, appealing knowing that the batsman is not out) but all specifics are now covered in the Laws of Cricket, the relevant governing playing regulations and disciplinary codes, or left to the judgment of the umpires, captains, their clubs and governing bodies. The terse expression of the Spirit of Cricket now avoids the diversity of cultural conventions that exist in the detail of sportsmanship – or its absence. Cricket is played at both the international and domestic level also, It’s easy to enjoy the sport when so many of the world’s best players are in your team. While the 1983 World Cup-winning squad included Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, and so on, the 2011 team had MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh to lift the trophy. And don’t forget that Virat Kohli tops the ICC ranking for one- day internationals and Test batting. there is one major international championship per format, and top-level domestic competitions mirror the three main international formats. There are now several T20 leagues, which have spawned a “T20 freelancer” phenomenon.

Lowest Totals of all 8 Teams in IPL
The 2020 Dream 11 IPL has been a rollercoaster ride so far and has provided plenty of drama to cricketing fans.
While it is true that any team can beat another team on any given day in the IPL, sometimes a franchise is totally outplayed. This not only shatters the morale of the players but also decimates their net run rate, which, in turn, will harm their chances of making it to the play-offs.
We take a stroll down memory lane and examine the lowest totals scored by the eight current IPL franchises in the 13-year long history of the IPL.
8) Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2019: 96 runs against Mumbai Indians
Final Scores: MI: 136/7 (20 overs) SRH: 96/10 (17.4 overs)
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) replaced the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in 2013. Due to this, SRH has the shortest legacy among the eight franchises.
Though SRH went on to reach the finals of the 2019 edition, the season also featured their worst batting effort.
MI managed just 136/7 in their 20 overs as SRH's bowlers clicked as a unit.
In response, debutant Alzarri Joseph bowled the best figures in IPL history (12/6 in his 3.4 overs) to shock the world. Openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow put on 33 runs for the opening partnership, but it was all downhill from there.
7) Mumbai Indians, IPL 2011: 87 runs against Kings XI Punjab
Final Scores: KXIP: 163/8 (20 overs) MI: 87/10 (12.5 overs)
Here is a startling fact about this match:
Mumbai Indians gave away 22 extras during KXIP's innings. In response, Mumbai's highest scorer was Keiron Pollard with 17 (11).
KXIP's Bhargav Bhatt picked up four wickets in his 2.5 overs to crush the formidable MI line-up. Seven MI players scored single-digit scores as the current defending champions lost the match by 76 runs.
6) Chennai Super Kings, IPL 2013: 79 runs against Mumbai Indians
Final Scores: MI: 139/5 (20 overs) CSK: 79 (15.2 overs)
A gritty knock by captain Rohit Sharma (39* from 30) helped Mumbai Indians limp their way to 139/5 in their 20 overs. Turns out, it was more than enough.
The third over bowled by Mitchell Johnson resulted in just one run and three wickets as CSK found themselves in all sorts of trouble. Pragyan Ojha then returned to castle Micheal Hussey (22 from 26) and Ravindra Jadeja (20 from 16), who were the only CSK players to put up any kind of a fight.
An uncharacteristic CSK ultimately fell to a crushing 60-run loss at the hands of their Mumbai rivals.
5) Kings XI Punjab, IPL 2017: 73 runs against Rising Pune Supergiant
Final Scores: KXIP: 73 (15.5 overs) RPS: 78/1 (12 overs)
The penultimate league match of IPL 2017 saw KXIP crash and burn in spectacular fashion, which cost them a playoff spot.
KXIP needed to win convincingly to finish fourth in the points table. The pressure seemed to be too much for KXIP as none of their batsmen put up a substantial score. RPS rubbed salt in KXIP's wounds by cruising to victory and losing only one wicket in the process.
4) Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL 2008: 67 runs against Mumbai Indians
Final Scores: KKR: 67/10 (15.2 overs) MI: 68/2 (5.3 overs)
The Mumbai Indians were once again responsible for a franchise crashing to their lowest total.
The KKR batsmen seemed hapless as the MI bowlers, led by Shaun Pollock, ran through them. The KKR bowlers failed to replicate this feat as MI's Sanath Jayasuriya (48 from 17) made a mockery of the target.
KKR had beaten RCB by 140 runs courtesy of Brendon McCullum's 158*(73) in the first match of IPL 2008. Being bowled out for 67 in the same season displays the fickle nature of the T20 format.
3) Delhi Capitals, IPL 2017: 66 runs against Mumbai Indians
Final Scores: MI: 212/3 (20 overs) DC: 66/10 (13.4 overs)
The Mumbai Indians, again! This match saw a 146-run victory, the highest in IPL history in terms of runs.
MI opener Lendl Simmons scored 66 (43), which was the same as the whole Delhi Capitals team combined. MI spinners Harbhajan Singh (22/3) and Karn Sharma (11/3) spun a web around the DC batsmen, whose biggest partnership was a measly 14 runs for the third wicket.
2) Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2009: 58 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore
Final Scores: RCB: 133/8 (20 overs) RR: 58/10 (15.1 overs)
The IPL 2008 champions made a disastrous start to the title defense.
The ever-dependable Rahul Dravid (66 from 48) waged a lone battle against the RR bowling unit to help RCB to a competitive 133/8.
What RR did not take into account was a wily veteran named Anil Kumble. The lanky spinner returned with surreal figures of 5/5 in 3.1 overs, which included a maiden over. The RR batsmen dropped like flies as RCB romped home to a 75-run victory.
1) Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL 2017: 49 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders
Final Scores: KKR: 131/10 (19.3 overs) RCB: 49/10 (9.4 overs)
RCB seemed to finally have gotten their act together in the 2017 IPL. A disciplined bowling attack had seen KKR bowled out for a sub-par 131 in front of a raucous Eden Garden crowd.
What followed was 45 minutes of absolute carnage. None of the RCB batsmen managed to reach double figures as Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes, and Colin de Grandhomme took three wickets apiece. Umesh Yadav picked up the remaining one. This was the IPL's first and only sub-50 total.

Some tight bowling from Boult as he forced an outside edge from Faf and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock took his second catch behind the stumps. What a start for Mumbai Indians. 2 overs: CSK 3/3 What a start from Jasprit Bumrah too – a double-wicket over from the pacer as he gave away just three runs in it. 1.5 overs: OUT! Two in two for Jasprit Bumrah, dismisses N Jagadeesan (0). Brilliantly set-up by Boult, before the left-arm quick straightened one from over the wicket. Here we go…Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad to start CSK innings. Trent Boult with the ball for MI. Playing XIs: Mumbai Indians: Quinton de Kock (w), Saurabh Tiwary, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard (c), Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah Chennai Super Kings: Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, N Jagadeesan, MS Dhoni (w/c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Josh Hazlewood, Imran Tahir TOSS | Mumbai Indians stand-in skipper Kieron Pollard wins toss, opts to bowl against Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah Captains at the toss: MS Dhoni:“Last game we played here the wicket played slightly better in the second innings, so not much of a problem. Once we landed here we had a 14-day break and before that we had a seven day-camp in Chennai and once we’re here it became slightly difficult with the quarantine and there were a few phases where game went out of our hands and the batting wasn’t also upto the mark, It happens in cricket and there are quite a few reasons for why we haven’t been upto the mark. Three changes for us. Kedar Jadhav, Shane Watson, Piyush Chawla out and Jagadeesan, Gaikwad and Tahir are in.” Kieron Pollard:“We are gonna bowl first. Don’t expect the wicket to change much and hopefully there’s some dew. We want to qualify for the playoffs first and we still have to come out and play good cricket. We have spoken about areas we need to improve and we want to execute them in the middle tonight. Rohit is struggling with his left hamstring and hopefully he will be fit soon and take the captaincy. Only change we have is Saurabh Tiwary comes in for Rohit.“

Pitch Report: “Never been a blade of grass for the 20 years I have seen this pitch, so batting becomes easy and bowling becomes hard. With the new ball, the fast bowlers will have to bowl that 8-metre back-of-the-length and not into the wicket. You need to slide it through low and get that quick skid so that the batsman finds it difficult to get under the ball. For spinners, it’s very much the same as fast bowlers. Death bowling becomes really important on this wicket and Mumbai, it’s very strange they haven’t bowled as many yorkers as CSK and they will be very confident of executing those straight yorkers and for CSK, it’s concentrating on their strength: the wide yorkers have gone for very little runs and they really need to execute that well. Team that wins the toss would want to bat first.” – Kumar Sangakkara and Murali Kartik Hello and welcome to the live coverage of Match 41 of the Indian Premier League 2020 between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in Sharjah. STATS THAT MATTER * CSK’s Deepak Chahar and MI’s Trent Boult have picked the most wickets in the PowerPlay – 7 each * Mumbai Indians have a 17-12 lead in the head-to-head tally against Chennai Super Kings * Among players who have faced 50-plus balls, Ravindra Jadeja has the fourth best strike rate this season – only behind Kieron Pollard, AB de Villiers and Nicholas Pooran * MS Dhoni needs one six to reach 200 sixes as captain in the IPL * Jasprit Bumrah needs three wickets to reach 100 wickets in the IPL and 200 in all T20s.

#821 Samson-Tewatia’s magic hitting stun Punjab in highest chase in IPL history; Tewatia hitting Cottrell for 5 sixes in an over was stunning to witness; KKR outclass SRH in a sluggish pitch; SHubman Gill shines; Man City shocked by Leicester City 2-5 after being up a goal; SPurs and Chelsea draw; Goffin and Evans stunned in opening round of French open; Halep , Azarenka and Wawrinka win and more..:-)

SRH chose to bat after winning toss against KKR. Cummins gave KKR a good start when castled Bairstow with a beauty. SRH 24-1. SRH found the going tough on a slow pitch. Warner who is a player who likes bat to come onto the bat. They hardly scored 60 in first 10 overs. Warner was dismissed by Varun when he as on 36. SRH 59-1. Saha and Manish had 62 run stand but Saha couldn’t accelerate. Manish scored a fifty. Saha just managed 30 runs from 31 balls. SRH just managed 142-4. This is the lowest score when only 4 of lesser wickets had fallen in entire IPL history.  KKR lost 3 wickets early when SRH reduced them to 53-3.  Morgan And Shubman gill had an unbeaten 90 run stand to take KKR to a comfortable 7 wicket win with 2 overs to spare. SRH misjudged the pitch completely. They and CSK are sailing in the same boat in IPL 2020.
Punjab faced RR in next match. Match started where Rahul finished it against RCB. Fours and sixes were coming at will. Rahul took RR’s lone hope Archer to the cleaners by hitting fours of his first 3 balls. Mayank hit 50 of 26 balls and brought his next 50 in just 19 balls. He was in stunning form. Its good to see that he has not taken heart-breaking moment against DC to his heart.Rahul hit his 50 of 35 balls. They were not slogging which was good to see. 100 run stand came of just 8.4 overs !!. Mayank was finally dismissed for 51 ball 107 which had 10 fours and 7 sixes. His innings of highest class. He and Rahul had 183 run stand in 16.3 overs. Breath-taking would be a short word to describe this partnership. Rahul soon fell for 69. Punjab 194-2 in 18 overs.  Some late hitting by Pooran and Maxwell took Punjab to 223-2. RR lost Butler early on when Cottrell dismissed him for 4. RR 19-1. Samson and Smith then did to Punjab what Rahul and Mayank did to RR bowlers. They hammered bowlers all over the park. They scored 69 runs in powerplay. They reached 100 of 8.5 overs, 1 more ball than what Punjab took. Match on. That’s when Neesham dismissed Smith for 27 ball 50. RR 100-2. Lot depended on Samson now . Tewatia was sent up the order to bat as a pinch hitter. He just couldn’t connect the ball. He put lot of pressure to Samson. By the end of 14 overs, they were at 132-2. Hardly 30 odd runs have come in last 5 overs. Match had turned on its head. T20 is a not for pinch hitters as it hurts if it doesn’t work. RR 140-2 in 15 overs. Samson then took all strike. He hit Maxwell for 21 runs. 63 needed from last 4 overs. Samson had to do all the scoring if RR had to win from here. Shami dismissed him for 42 ball 85. RR 161-3. Uthappa came and started timing from ball 1. He scored 9 runs of first 3 balls . 51 was needed from last 3 overs. Tewatia hammered Cottrell for 5 sixes in 18th over. Just 21 was needed from last 2 overs. SHami dismissed Uthappa of first ball. Archer then hits Shami for 2 sixes. Tewatia brings up 50 with another 6. He hit 6 sixes of last 7 balls. He was dismissed off next ball by Shami when just 2 was needed. Ashwin castled Parag of the first ball to add drama. Curran hit a boundary to seal a famous win for RR. This is highest run chase in IPL history. Punjab should have won all 3 games so far but have lost 2 from winning position. They have overtaken RCB in choking. Would this hurt them in qualifying ??
In EPL, Chelsea were down 0-3 against West Brom. Chelsea then bounced back to level the match. Final goal was scored by Tammy Abraham in injury time. Moura’s goal gave Spurs lead against Newcastle but Wilson levelled the match in injury time. Man City took lead in 4th minute thanks to goal by Mahrez against Leicester City. They looked the better team for first 30 minutes. Vardy scored via penalty just before break to level for Leicester City. Man City were stunned in 2nd half as 2 goals by Vardy inside 4 minutes took Leicester City to 3-1. Maddison scored a stunner to make it 4-1. Man City would be shocked with this performance. If Pep cant get this team a big title this season, he could well be fired mid season. Man City eventually lost 2-5.
French open kick started. There were 2 main upsets. Sinner beat 11th seed Goffin in straight sets. Nishikori beat 32 seed Evans in 5 set thriller. Azarenka and Halep cruised to 2nd round. Alex De Minaur lost in straight sets too. Wawrinka outclassed Murray in straight sets.
