TMNTober day 03 : Eyes

It’s the long week-end for me, which means four days of rushing to catch up the TMNTober and procrastinating on my homework

There’s a lot of great things about S2 of 2012 TMNT, but one of the greatest is absolutely the fact that Leatherhead was 1000% down to do a dramatic sacrifice like “Go!! I’ll keep ‘em busy!” and Mikey was like HELL NO YOU WON’T and just dropkicked him through the portal to safety.

It’s Iconic and absolutely one of my favorite Mikey moments ever. I love it so much.

TMNT 2012 season 2 final

I'm rewatching it and leatherhead pulled up and just started chomping on Shredder like a toy dog. Splinter should've been like "aye you mind chompin that dude into oblivion cuz he's fucking insane" Hamato peace restored 🐀✌️🐢

I think, considering they hadn't expected Leatherhead's appearance, the '12 turtles can forgive Leo's slip up. Besides, the test is to see how good he is at stealth, fighting, AND escaping a tight situation while in unfamiliar/enemy territory so its not like they expect him to remain hidden the entire time! Leo loses if they manage to catch him and drag him back to the surface, notnif they find him at all.

Leatherhead would be very confused about the tiny striped turtle tho, especially when Raph and Mikey both come rushing head first. Mikey is the one to explain who Leo is and what they're doing and Leatherhead joins in. He wants to meet this new turtle who apparently is a victim of the Kraang like himself.

Because my last friendly reminder post did so well...

Yes, there are episodes where they’re extra mean, it’ll happen if a show runs long enough.

But 2012 Raph loves his little brother.

(He’s the first to comfort Mikey after the whole Bradford fiasco)

(helping Mikey with trash talk. I think this bit is cute tbh)

(The absolute PANIC on his face when Mikey jumps off a roof)

(threatening Leatherhead, a gator 3x his size that has kicked all there asses twice, because he’s worried he’ll hurt Mikey)

His brothers have also been overly mean to him.

(The training scene in Turtle Temper. I know you were trying to teach a lesson Splints but yikes, that got personal)

(And the guys, *cough* mostly Mikey, picking on him about his fear of roaches)

(and using him to bait out said roach that ACTIVELY wants to kill him)

This isn’t even close to a full list but you get the point.

And the Rise boys can be overly mean to each other.

(They went too far with bringing Mrs. Cuddles to the Lair to scare Raph...even without the secretly a demon part)

And I don’t remember the episode but I do know Raph smacked Donnie once in Rise when DonTron told Splinter they were having a ‘non-mystic day’

The show got sped up so a lot of the episodes towards the end were mainly focused on the Shredder plot, so the show didn’t have enough time to have episodes where the cast acts a little OOC to build a plot around.

And I know, I know, ‘Siblings shouldn’t hit each other!’ 

Not with malice, no. But I have a lot of sibs, there’s 8 of us, and we rough house with each other, we grab and smack and poke and rib at each other because we all know the others boundary and trust them to tell us if we’re going to far.

Rise Turtles and 12 Turtles have different sibling dynamics, and there both valid dynamics so chill out and enjoy the silly mutant ninja show.

Who’s your favorite side character from a piece of tmnt media! (Or just a character outside of the main group!)

87' defiantly Casey Jones, i know in every other iteration his is apart of the main cast, but in 87' he is most defiantly a side character, but boi has my heart. then Mona Lisa, Irma, lotus blossom, and then maybe leatherhead. He's a silly guy.

03' probably angle and leatherhead, He's a silly guy in this one too but more of cutie silly guy ya know. Then Karai and Baxter Stockman, absolute bosses, they friggin ate.

12' would have to say ice cream kitty and chompy. I know they're both technically pets... but ya know they got some likeable personalities. then it would be mona lisa, she slays and i love her but her character really only matters when raph needs development of some kind. She's still awesome tho, which is why she stays.

from rise I'd probably say piebald, big mama, and Sheldon. These ones in no specific order. i just love <3

You guys ever think about how the episode where Rise Raph was “Weird” for an episode? (“Man Vs. Sewer”) And how out of place it seemed? I mean what made my boi like this?? Cause, looking at the previous tmnt iterations, it was probably a concept in which the writers were trying to combine “Leatherhead” with “Raphael”. A character you don’t see in rottmnt.

Cause Leatherhead is an alligator. A gentle sweet soul. Raph is an alligator snapping turtle. And a sweet soul. They are both, ridiculously huge in stature. Towering over the turtles.

And they both get weird.

The whole concept of Leatherhead is that he is a character that is very sweet and kind. He started out as a baby alligator. But due to the oddity of his mutation, succumbs to “animal instincts” as a mental defense mechanism. Acting like how a provoked alligator would. And accidentally hurting the ones he loves because of it. I find the fact he and Raph were both originally baby animals that were mutated to be a potential connection.

Is this what’s up with Raph? An odd mutation that makes Raph lose himself when he can’t handle something? His instincts taking over to protect himself? An odd mutation caused from perhaps an interrupted process designed to make them be weapons of war? Or would allowing the full mutation have made the turtles more feral, monstrous? Perfect to destroy all of humanity.

I want to say that 03 Leatherhead had more of an impact on this choice. 03 is specifically very kind. And the brothers welcomed him in their lair. Excitedly and basically called him brother.

In 03 it seems to be more in his “nature” that he needed help to get through with. But be an allegory for trauma for ptsd (I think). In 12 he was tortured from the beginning implying a combination of trauma and the nature of his mutation. Either way, trauma makes this “defense mechanism” worse, as in 03 after being tortured by “Bishop”, his episodes become worse.

I think 03 wrote a very compelling episode, and I think Rise could have taken the episode in a different direction if this was their idea. Regardless, it has some interesting implications.

Because, what would happen to a turtle who gets “weird” after being possessed by the Krang?

His episodes would get worse.

4. Favorite non-turtle character?

Oh man, that's a hard question, theres so many good characters in the franchise. I think I have to go with April. She's the turtles' friend. She's usually the first human they meet and she decides to keep their secret and be their friend and help them. She's smart and clever runs into danger along with the boys. How can anyone not love her?

13. What's your favorite part of the fandom community?

I love that theres someone to love every part of the franchise. Everything is a favorite to some one. A series or character or style may not be a favorite or liked by everyone, but theres SOMEONE out there who loves it and I think that's just really cool! The fandom is so much bigger than I would have thought and things like TMayNT that get to show off appreciation for so many different things and we get to see it in maybe a different light than before thanks to someone's love for it. Every part of TMNT gets some love :)

Rafa my beloved! <3

Just finished Rafa's so here's an info dump about my dumb child (affectionate).

When Raphael first got separated from their siblings, they ended up getting picked up by the Utroms. They kept them around teaching him similar to how the did Leatherhead. But at age 4, he ended up messing with the wrong device (which ended up being a prototype teleporter) and accidentally sent himself to Triceriton owned space.

They quickly got found by Traximus and was brought into his home. Traximus raises Rafa, though acts more like a guardian or uncle than a parent, which Rafa is fine with.

at age 12 (everythign happens at 12 lol) Traximus gets arrested for treason, and when Rafa fought back against it, they got arrested too. Both gets tossed into the gladitorial arena for the next 3 years, that is until 3 off worlders get dumped in there as well and they look far too similar to Rafa for them to ignore.

Rafa helps these 3 break everything (they've been wanting to do that for a while lol) and escapes with them at Traximus's request.

getting back to earth, Rafa ends up staying with Mikey and Splinter in the sewers. The adjustment period is pretty difficult for them. Triceritons were a very combat based society and New York just isn't. but they eventually manage it. he discovers the dramatic tv wrestling and loves it lol. Like it's right between being something they know (the arena) but clearly so fake and choreographed that it's nothing like it.

Rafa has little to no clothing preference. As long as it doesn't restrict his movements or ability to fight, he'll wear it. Mikey learned this by giving them stupider and stupider things to wear, and Rafa just wore them without blinking. (once his other 2 siblings realized that's what Mikey was doing, he's no longer allowed to give Rafa clothes anymore lol.)

Rafa's down to fight pretty much anything, except their siblings. he learned pretty quickly upon coming to earth that they hate even the idea of sparing with any of them. They used to fight to the death in the arena, they do NOT want to even risk having their sibling be on the receiving end of that.

(i don't even think they realized that themselves until the first time they joined training and was set up to spar with Donny. They just stood there, shaking until Donny picked up on something being wrong and just lead them back off the mats.)

my absolute favorite thing about them right now is just that, when they're sick/injured/or otherwise fighting impaired, they seek out one of their siblings to sit by or curl up behind. This is usually Donny since he's most likely to stay still for long periods of time and won't question him about it.
