2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Review
Simply put the 2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Category is one of the finest vehicles in the globe. There’s no need for qualifiers like “for the money” or “within its class.” Now available in automobile and sports convertible body system designs every BMW S Category delivers an outstanding blend of technological innovation technological innovation and high-class that spreads throughout everything from the revocation to the chairs.
This is a car that can check out the way forward for lumps and actually alter the revocation to ensure that you don’t encounter them. It can help you avoid crashes and generate for you on the way. And even for excellent measure you can sample from six chair massage configurations four perfume fragrances as many as 24 speakers and five powertrains that variety from 436 to 621 horse power.
Really, we could continue wax poetically about the S Category but the simple fact is its success is evident. Just look at the multitude of available features its eye opening efficiency figures and pictures of its elegant internal. The only way it fails to deliver relative to other leading high-class cars is the generating experience; if you want some car owner engagement you can do better than the identifying S Category.
But that’s a question of taste rather than a fault. And as for the car and sports convertible they really have only one competitor: the Bentley Navigator GT. When you’re cross browsing with a Bentley you know you’re in rarefied air.
Indeed, the S Category automobile also seems a little closer to that upper echelon of high-class vehicles than other leading cars out there. Everything about it just seems a little more complex and brazenly luxurious than a Rolls royce A8 BMW 7 Series or Jaguar XJ.
Even the Bentley Flying Encourage which is as self-indulgent as it gets can’t coordinate the master Benz’s technological innovation and technological innovation. So, you won’t discover many reasons to not buy an S Category here because it’s impossible to imagine being frustrated by one of its many gilded designs.

2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Performance & Mpg
The 2017 BMW S550 is operated by a turbocharged 4.7liter V8 that produces 449 horse power and 516 pound legs of twisting. A nine rate automated gearbox is conventional on every S550. Rear rim generate is conventional on the S550 automobile and Cabriolet while 4Matic all rim generate is conventional on the car and optionally available on the automobile.
In examining this base motor rocketed a S550 automobile from zero to 60 mph in a short 4.9 a few moments while a car did it in 4.7 a few moments. EPA approximated gas mileage is 21 mpg mixed (18 city/26 highway) for the S550 automobile while opting for 4Matic or another body system style outcomes in a drop of 1 mpg in mixed generating.

It also has AMG’s seven rate automated but because it is back rim generate only its limited grip outcomes in a slightly more slowly 060 time than the AMG S 63. Don’t let that fool you; it will never encounter more slowly. Its EPA gas mileage is 16 mpg mixed (13 city/22 highway).
On the other end of the variety is the S550e plug-in multiple that uses a turbocharged 3.0liter V6 a motor unit a seven rate automated and lithium ion battery power to produce a total of 436 hp and 479 lbft of twisting. When its approximated all electric powered variety of 12 miles is depleted it returns an approximated 26 mpg mixed.
2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Safety
Few vehicles on Earth are available with as many protection measures as the BMW S Class. Standard devices contain stability and grip control crosswind support front part and rear part protection bags part layer protection bags front part side pelvic protection bags and a person joint airbag. Standard electronic protection measures consist of a sleepy car owner caution program and an accident protection program that will notify the motorist of a potential accident and completely implement the braking system if necessary.
Mercedes’ Mbrace urgent telematics contains automated accident notice thieved automobile location support alarm notice an SOS urgent services button geofencing for valets and teenage drivers and distant automobile manages (via mobile app or computer) that can open up or lock the car for instance.
The Driver Assistance program (standard on the S600 and AMG S 65) contains a dynamic sightless identify tracking program (will guide you back to your street if you fail to pay attention to its warning) a dynamic street leaving caution program (ditto) people identification for the accident protection program a back impact identification and readiness program and an innovative flexible vacation control program that not only matches the rate of the car right in front part of you but will also implement the braking system and the decrease in stopping traffic and keep you in your street.
The Professional Rear Seat program now contains a particular chair installed airbag in the right back chair that stops its tenant from moving forward under their seat belt. Other available choices consist of an evening perspective program (detects people on the streets and animals through infra-red receptors and shows them in the device panel) and an encompass perspective automobile parking digicam program.
In brake examining an S550 automobile with all season tires came to a stop from 60 mph in a brief 115 legs. The S550 automobile with summer season tires ceased 2 legs shorter. An AMG S 63 automobile ceased in 108 legs which is typical for an efficiency car on summer season tires.
2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Interior
The rooms of most leading high-class vehicles think that bigger more fancy versions of “lesser” designs discussing a general style visual and many control components. Not so the 2017 BMW Benz S Class. Even though the new E Class has borrowed a few style hints and manages the S Class remains a particular car that exists above the rest. There is an elegance and sense of elegance that create it encounter more like an opponent for a Bentley than a BMW.
Beyond appearance few vehicles can approach the new S Class’ comfort and infotainment features. The conventional chairs are lovely but we recommend the Premium package’s multiple shape chairs with their additional improvements air flow and six massage configurations.
That’s right six. One even mimics a hot stone massage by utilizing the seat’s emitters. And just in case your back travelers are the envious sort the same luxurious front part chair features (including their adjustments) are available in the sedan’s tremendous back burner. Plus, you can add an enjoyment program airplane style pop out tables and even a fridge.
Those aren’t available on the car and sports convertible but even their backseats are nicely sized for a two entrance car. Plus, the coupe’s lack of part ceiling support beams provides a wide keep the windows open down generating encounter that few other vehicles can coordinate. You’ll also look for the convertible’s top up or top down generating encounter remarkably peaceful especially with the conventional Air cap breeze deflector raised.
All of the SClass’ many infotainment features are controlled by the latest version of Mercedes’ COMAND program which is reasonably simple to use given the tremendous number of features it’s assigned with. Just ensure that to spend a lot of time trying factors out and asking questions of your BMW salesman or dealership assistant.
The footwear as you might anticipate from a 17footlong automobile is sufficiently huge at 16.3 cubic legs. Note however that the available 24speaker Burmester high end speakers “significantly” reduces footwear space according to BMW.
The S550e plug-in multiple also has a smaller footwear (12.2 cubic feet) because of its battery power. The coupe’s footwear is on the small part for a car especially such a huge one at 10.4 cubic legs. The Cabriolet is a bit better at 12.4 pieces but it’s reduced to 8.8 when the ceiling is reduced.
2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Driving
Effortless. That’s really the best way to explain generating 2017 BMW Benz SClass. The guiding is fairly light and when prepared with street keeping assist and/or Dystonic Plus vacation manage it will even slightly guide the car for you. Still you’ll be surprised at how expertly this substantial automobile and automobile will hunker down and go around a corner.
Now you may think you’ve enjoyed a comfortable drive before but it most likely pales in comparison to the SClass’ conventional flexible air revocation. Not only does it iron out lumps it does so without an indication of floaties. Plus, the drive gets even better with the sedan’s optionally available Miracle Body Management.
Using a window installed digicam, the car finds potholes and other blemishes in the way forward and automatically adapts the air revocation to make up. We’re not fueling when we say it’ll believe that you’re cutting through rate lumps rather than going over them.
As for motor choice, every 2017 Mercedes Benz S Class is substantially quicker than you’d anticipate from such a tremendous car. It’s really energy delivery that’s the biggest difference. You’ll be able to tell the V8 and V12 designs apart by the way they dole out their ability and twisting while the AMG designs are showier in the sounds they create.
2017 Mercedes Benz S Class – The S Class has always been synonymous with luxury, and it continues that proud tradition 2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Review Simply put the 2017 Mercedes Benz S Class Category is one of the finest vehicles in the globe.

Mercedes-Benz throws down the EV gauntlet at IAA Mobility
Mercedes-Benz introduced a slew of electric vehicles ahead of the IAA Mobility show in Germany, including its first AMG-branded high-performance EV, a sedan and a G-Class SUV concept — all part of the company’s bid to become an electric-only automaker by the end of the decade.
Mercedes has already started producing the all-electric EQS, a high-forward and sleek flagship that’s meant to be an electric counterpart to the S-Class. At IAA Mobility, Mercedes aims to showcase its next big EV’s moves.
Earlier this year, the automaker laid out its €40 billion ($47 billion) electric-only plan, a target that will push the company to become more vertically integrated, train its workforce and secure the batteries needed to power its products. This plan actually piggybacks on previous goals to build and sell more EVs. Back in 2017, Mercedes said it would electrify — which means gas-hybrid, plug-in hybrid or battery electric — its entire lineup by 2022. The German automaker said in July that by next year it will offer battery-electric vehicles in every segment that it serves.
Mercedes aims to launch three electric-only architectures in 2025 that will form the basis of all of its new vehicles. Its so-called MB.EA platform will be used for its medium to large passenger cars, while AMG.EA will underpin its performance Mercedes-AMG cars and the VAN.EA will be dedicated architecture for electric passenger minivans and light commercial vehicles. The company has already announced its “electric first” compact car architecture, known as MMA, which will launch in vehicles by 2024.
“The EV shift is picking up speed, especially in the luxury segment where Mercedes belongs,” said Ola Källenius, head of Mercedes Benz, as he announced the particulars of the new EQE. “That’s why were accelerating from ‘EV-first’ to ‘EV-only.’ Next year we will have battery electric options in every segment we serve, and by 2025 we’ll have at least one electric alternative for every model we make.”
Källenius said the automaker aims to sell one EV for every two Mercedes cars on its path to all-electric, where market conditions allow, by 2030.
Mercedes-Benz EQB
Mercedes-EQ, EQB, 2021
The crossover, which Mercedes revealed earlier this year, showed up at the automaker’s event. And this time, they shared a few more details, including that it is bound for the United States some time in 2022. It will launch in Europe and China at the end of this year.
The EQB will be the first electrically powered production vehicle from the Kecskemét plant in Hungary. Vehicles for the Chinese market are being produced in Beijing. When the EQB arrives in the U.S., it will come in two variants. The compact SUV will first launch as the EQB 300 4MATIC with 168 kW or 255 hp and then as the EQB 350 4MATIC with 215 kW or 288 hp. In the former variant, it’ll have 390 pound-feet of torque. In both cases, the range will be about 419 kilometers, or 260 miles, which is a bit less than the others revealed on Sunday. The automaker says a long-range version will follow, as well as a front-wheel drive model.
The electric powertrain is a compact, integrated unit comprising of electric motor, a fixed-ratio transmission with differential, a cooling system and power electronics. An asynchronous motor is used at the front axle.
The compact EQB comes standard with five seats, but can convert into a seven-seater if you’ve got a big family and need extra space.

The EQE sedan is the automaker’s answer for anyone who wanted the flagship EQS but couldn’t afford it. The sedan will have a single electric motor that will produce 288 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. For those keeping track, that is a skosh 41 hp less than the EQS. The 90 kWh battery has got around 660 kilometers, or 410 miles, or range, and can top up an additional 250 kilometers, or 155 miles, within 15 minutes of fast charging. At market launch, a second model with different variations will also be released, but Mercedes has not announced further details.
Many of the features in the EQS make an appearance in its little brother, such as an advanced driver assistance system, front doors that open automatically and rear axle steering. The MBUX Hyperscreen mulit-screen connected entertainment system is available as an option. Despite its slightly smaller body, the EQE also has a roomy interior, with 27mm more front seat shoulder room, 65 mm higher seating position and 80mm greater overall cabin length than the current E-Class.
The EQE is the automaker’s fourth EQ car to be unveiled this year, and it will soon be followed by SUV versions of the EQS and the EQE, according Källenius. Production will be in Bremen for the world market and Beijing for the Chinese market, and a staggered global launch will start in mid-2022.
Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+
Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+
Get ready for power and performance. The AMG EQS is the first battery electric AMG production model based on the EQ architecture. Made in Affalterbach, it’s meant to embody the perfect combination of a zero-emissions vehicle that still has power, body and luxury. To enhance that feel, the car is built with special hardware in and out of the car with a sound system so the car can croon as it drives, giving those inside and outside of the car that authentic AMG feeling.
The AMG EQS has two AMG electric motors offering a total system output of 484 kW or 658 hp. Kicking it up to “race start” will provide 560 kW or 761 hp, as well as 1020 nm of torque, getting you from 0 to 100 kilometers in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour, or 155 miles per hour.
A recuperative braking system sends energy back into the battery, which has a total 108 kWh of storage capacity, providing 580 kilometers, or 360 miles, or range. The car is also equipped for fast DC charging with over 200 kW.
The AMG EQS is being produced at the carbon-neutral “Factory 56” at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfinge outside of Stuttgart. Mercedes is planning to launch this vehicle to market at the end of 2021.
Mercedes Concept EQG
Hooray for the “mighty G!” The EQG is a G-class electric off-roader concept vehicle, complete with the strong character of the 4×4 G with the progressive luxury of the EQ models. The automaker didn’t provide too many details of the EQG because it still has a way to go before production, but here’s what we do know: It comes with four electric motors that have “lots of power” and are positioned close to the wheels so they can be individually controlled. There’s also a new rear axle and a two-speed gearbox for on and off-road driving.
That off-road driving will be put to the test at Mercedes’s test track on the 1,445-meter high Schöckl mountain in Graz at the end of its development into a series model.
Mercedes Maybach Concept
Concept Mercedes Maybach EQS, IAA Munich 2021
This SUV concept vehicle will be the first all-electric Maybach in the rather traditional vehicle’s long history. The Maybach EQS has the classic features of the old school models, like a two-tone paint finish, with the progressive drive technology of the EQ lineup. It’s also swanky as hell. The white piano lacquer interior looks plush and sleek, something the other half in the film Elysium might drive in to reach their paradise in the sky. It’s made to be a comfortable place to work or rest, particularly if you go for “executive seats” and the “chauffeur package.”
The SUV should hit the markets in 2023, but Mercedes said it would introduce the platform for upcoming SUVs as early as next year, and it’ll have an expected range of around 600 kilometers, or 373 miles.

The 2020 Genesis G70 Gives BMW a Run for Its Money
The 2020 Genesis G70 Gives BMW a run Its Money LAST UPDATED: DEC 12, 2019 AT 5:02PM PUBLISHED ON: DEC 7, 2019 BY MATT SMITH
2020 Genesis G70 Sport 3.3T It’s easier than ever for an automaker to face out from the gang . Before the proliferation of touchscreen infotainment systems and advanced safety features, luxury automakers relied on a car’s high-quality interior materials, high-end stereos, and exceptional performance characteristics to differentiate it from the competition.
Buy New Car
Those elements have helped give legacy stalwarts just like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class a stronghold on the posh compact sedan market. For better or worse, those cars enjoy an extended history of success. To their credit, both BMW and Mercedes have built impressive safety and technology offerings to weather the competition from automakers like Lexus, Infiniti, Volvo, and Audi.
But there’s a good newer threat to the luxury-market leaders. Genesis, born from Hyundai’s flagship sedan lineup, arrived with the 2017 G90. Two years later, the company’s 3 Series fighter, the G70, debuted.
2020 Genesis G70 Sport 3.3T We had an opportunity to drive that 2019 G70 and located it to be startlingly great. With some recent experience during a 2020 G70, we’re left wondering if it’s truly better than the segment’s best, and if so, why? How?
Buy New Car
Sport Mode Keeps the G70 Competitive—To some extent First of all, the 2020 Genesis G70 isn't as impressive a performer as a similarly equipped 3 Series. Despite being built upon the Kia Stinger’s platform (or perhaps due to it) and featuring a tweaked suspension, the G70 never truly seems like a fanatical sports sedan. Our car was equipped with the three .3-liter turbocharged V6, and it absolutely ripped. While the Kia K900 coaxes comfortable, confident acceleration out of that mill, the Genesis approach seems to be more along the lines of dropping a sledgehammer out a window. Point the nose, punch the gas, and before you recognize it, you’re there. because of the Brembo brakes that come standard on V6 G70s, you’re likely to prevent quickly, too.
2020 Genesis G70 Drive-Mode Selector Unfortunately, the car becomes far more sedate—almost boring—when you turn out of Sport mode. And before you think that , “Just keep it in Sport, problem solved,” heed these words: Sport mode turned aggravating as soon as we hit traffic, and our combined fuel-economy number of 15.1 mpg in testing (drinking premium fuel) had us looking to save lots of gas at any opportunity.
The 2020 G70 features a Price to Beat Inside, the planning is busier than the typically spartan German setups, but it’s incredibly well-appointed. And this, quite anything, is how the Genesis G70 stands out amongst the gang . On its infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The seats of our test car featured quilted stitching, which drew oohs and ahs from nearly every passenger. The backseat is tight on space, but the front passenger seat features adjustment buttons easily accessed by the rear passenger, like within the K900.
2020 Genesis G70 Sport 3.3T Interior There’s tons to like about the 2020 Genesis G70. The car’s silhouette draws many attention, and its LED head- and taillights look great, particularly in the dark . The optional 3.3-liter engine kicks sort of a horse, albeit the chassis doesn’t carve corners like butter. But in today’s market, performance won't be necessary to convert fans. The brilliant interior design makes a press release , and therefore the G70 is not any slouch when it involves safety or infotainment technology. And, at the top of the day, the G70’s attractive price—which starts at $34,900 and consistently lives nearly $8,000 but a relatively equipped 3 Series—may be all a conflicted shopper must make the choice .

Schwarzenegger can't help it: electric Mercedes G-Class
Series production of the electric G-model is not planned for the time being, says Christian Schlögl. Kreisel Electric is currently developing, among other things, drive systems for a large German car manufacturer and for suppliers. So the G-Class remains unique - with a huge celebrity factor as a figurehead for Austrian technology. However, there was no premiere at the Audi booth. The brand with the four rings is very "tired" at NAIAS in Detroit. No world premiere and hardly any visitors to the stand.
The Terminator drives G-Class and the electric
The actor once drove, among other things, a Hummer H2 with hydrogen drive in his role as governor of California. In 2017, however, the governor relied on a battery-electric Mercedes G-Class from the Kreisel Electric company. that only about 70% of the 100% range is used in everyday operation. If a range of 300 km is reached with this 70%, then that is easily enough for normal everyday operation. The "normal citizen" rarely drives long distances. The staging is a symbol of the timelessness of the off-road legend and a conscious reference to the natural phenomenon of insects preserved in amber. published here I think most G-models won't or driven very little off-road, whoever drives off-road usually buys an older model. The vehicle's rechargeable batteries can be charged to 80% in just 25 minutes using quick charge. In the standard version, the Hummer H1 consumes up to 24 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers and has an emission of up to 470g CO2 per kilometer - after being “treated” by Kreisel Electric, it will be emission-free in the future. “With our electrified prototypes we want to show what is possible with gyro technology. We will certainly not build the models in series. This also includes the flagship EQS as the electrical equivalent of the S-Class, of which a spectacular concept car was already presented at the IAA 2019. Tuning Tuning for the Audi SQ8 TDI More diesel power from Abt Abt increases the already exuberant performance ex works and also sharpens the optics range up to 57 kilometers. New BMW X2 x-Drive 25e (2020) The X2 is also a plug-in hybrid BMW is also launching its plug-in SUV coupé. Like the Hummer H1, the Mercedes G presented in Kitzbühel is a project with which Kreisel Electric wants to demonstrate competence. The engineers had already converted several standard cars with their own technology into potent electric vehicles. The Mercedes G fits into the picture. Welcome to Detroit City! The new G-Class (W463) was presented at the North American International Auto Show last weekend. Although leaked pictures of the new G-Class were already on the web a few days before the world premiere, the tension on the new G-Wagon did not detract from this. The Michigan Theater, which has actually crumbled "Detroit-like" and functions as a parking garage, was quickly converted into a G-Rassic Park by Mercedes-Benz. A breathtaking backdrop! Mercedes-Fans.de was on site and summarizes the most important events again. 4x4Schweiz.ch is the first all-wheel drive online magazine in Switzerland. Find out from us interesting 4x4 news about all brands, exciting 4x4 test reports, current 4x4 events and everything about 4x4 clubs in Switzerland. It competes with the Mercedes-Benz X-Class. However, there is already an electric G-Class, because the Austrian company Kreisel Electric has removed the internal combustion engine and replaced it with an electric drive train. Kreisel Electric and none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger have already presented electrical conversions of the Hummer H1 and the G-Class. The latter delivers 483 hp and manages the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.6 seconds before reaching the end of the flagpole at 183 km / h.

2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMGs: What We Know So Far
The C-Class is Mercedes’ best-selling car in the U.S., so you better believe the brand takes the redesign seriously. Before the 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class arrives, we sat down with AMG’s Tobias Moers at the 2019 Frankfurt auto show to learn more about the 2021 C-Class AMG models and the future of AMG. With Frankfurt hosting the debuts of everything from a GLB 35 AMG to an updated plug-in GLC and the sleek EQS electric sedan concept, we chatted at the European auto show to learn about where the C-Class AMG models are headed. Here’s what we know so far.
A C 63 Plug-In Hybrid?
Moers confirmed that AMG is going hybrid, something we’ve heard is coming: “This is our intention, this is our strategy, and this is what we’re working on.” The next C- and S-Class AMG models will be plug-in hybrids, though don’t go looking for a huge EV range from powertrains we’re assured will be engineered differently from non-AMG Mercedes plug-ins.
The focus is on performance, though we’re sure that meeting increasingly stringent global fuel economy regulations is part of the picture, too. The outgoing C 63 S—that’s the one where the 4.0-liter turbo V-8 makes 503 hp—is good for 18/27 mpg city/highway as a sedan, but only 17/26 mpg as a coupe and 17/24 mpg as a convertible. Sure, roll your eyes at mpgs in an AMG story, but improved fuel economy translates to more AMGs in the future and—probably—a longer driving range before needing to fill up. Especially in a sport mode, the plug-in hybrid powertrain of the 2021 C 63 (assuming AMG doesn’t change its alphanumeric structure) could lead to satisfying temporary boosts in acceleration.
AMG Going for Four
You know that new AMG turbo-four that may make as much as 416 hp in upcoming models such as the A 45 S and CLA 45 S? Expect to see a version powering a future 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG model. Probably replacing the 385-hp turbo-six in the current C 43, performance should match that car. When we drove a 2017 C 43, it hit 60 mph in a MotorTrend-tested 4.2 seconds, and a previously tested C 63 S reached 60 in an even 4.0 seconds.
Where that leaves the 2021 C 63 is unclear; the current car’s soundtrack comes from a boosted V-8.
AMG AWD for All
Every 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG model will have AWD. The current C 43 models already do, and the next-gen C 63’s replacement should get a rear-biased AWD system with a drift mode.
That drivetrain shift, along with the previously announced move to hybrid power, may subtly change how people perceive AMG. Customer exposure to the Mercedes sub-brand got a lift once “AMG-lite” models (think C 43 versus the C63) rolled into dealerships.
“We had our journey with brand awareness,” Moers says. “When we started with our new strategy in 2014, we were well aware that the brand was not perfectly understood in every market.”
There’s more awareness (and sales) today, and we’re eager to see the 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class lineup. For now, check out our latest reviews of the 2019 C 63 HERE and the 2019 C 300 HERE.
They claim that with their yearly market research, they’ve seen a great increase in what it means. First is driving dynamics and then somewhere down the line is one person, one engine.

Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet review
For Feels like a baby S-Class Cabriolet, stylish good looks, genuine four-seat comfort Our Rating 4 Against Expensive to buy, lacks excitement, only AMG Line trim in UK 2017 The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is comfortable, well-built and great to look at Image is everything in the convertible segment and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet ticks many boxes. Feeling every inch the ‘baby S-Class Cabriolet’, the E-Class boasts an insulated fabric roof, four full-size seats and a surprisingly large boot. Avoid the more expensive six-cylinder engines and opt for the E 220d, which suits the smooth and relaxed nature of the E-Class Cabriolet. A real class act. 23 Oct, 2017 4.8 Going topless has never looked so good. With styling clearly influenced by the S-Class Cabriolet, thanks to its more compact proportions, the E-Class Cabriolet manages to upstage its larger and more expensive sibling. The S-Class derived insulated fabric roof – available in four colours – lends a classic feel to the Cabriolet while providing the theatre of opening or closing in just 20 seconds. The front end is imposing, without appearing aggressive, while you’d be hard-pressed to tell it apart from the S-Class from behind – especially if you remove the badges. Only the ‘Aircap’ deflector lets the side down. The automatic draught-stop system comprises a wind deflector in the roof frame and a draught excluder behind the rear seats to reduce turbulence for all passengers. In our experience, it only serves to increase wind noise at speed and is less effective than on the C-Class Cabriolet. On the flipside, the Airscarf neck-level heating system for the driver and passenger remains a great addition, and a must-have feature in the often damp and miserable UK. Roof up or roof down, you can have a conversation at motorway speeds in the E-Class Cabrio, meaning you might even begin to question the relevance of the Coupe. But if the outside is desirable, the inside is spectacular. The quality and details are exquisite, with top-notch materials and a plethora of neat features. Again, the cabin is inspired by the S-Class, with a minimalist dashboard flanked by a pair of air outlets inspired by jet engines. There are a further three, smaller air outlets in the centre of the ‘floating’ dashboard. Image 8 of 11 Image 8 of 11 In the back, passengers are treated to a pair of individually sculpted seats, a pair of cup holders and two more beautifully engineered air vents. While some cabriolets might leave rear seat passengers feeling shortchanged, in the E-Class they’re part of the theatre. Overall, the interior of the E-Class Cabriolet feels closer to the S-Class than it does the C-Class. A masterclass in fit, finish and ambience. Sat-nav, stereo and infotainment The E 220d and E 300 feature Mercedes’ standard 8.4-inch screen set in the centre of the dashboard, while the E 350d and E 400 boast the impressive 12.3-inch media display. This setup is optional on the lesser models. Similarly, the six-cylinder versions feature the impressive Comand Online system, comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which blends seamlessly with the central display a single piece of glass to create a high-tech feel. Again, the upgraded screen is available as an option on the four-cylinder models. Audio fans will be tempted to tick the box marked ‘Premium Plus’, which includes a Burmester surround sound system. At £2,895, it’s not a cheap option, but the 13-speaker and 590-watt system is one of the best in the business. Image 9 of 11 Image 9 of 11 3.7 Mercedes has worked hard to inject what it calls ‘luxurious sporty character’ into the E-Class Cabriolet. But while suspension lowered by 15mm and track width up 67mm at the front and 68mm at the rear (compared with the previous model) might hint at something sporting, this remains more boulevard cruiser than B-road blaster. Image 3 of 11 Image 3 of 11 The entry-level E 220d is actually the range sweet spot, offering the best blend of efficiency, dynamics and performance. The engine is impressively smooth and relaxing, and performance is respectable. It’s far from rapid but feels effortless when cruising. With 4Matic all-wheel drive, the E-Class Cabriolet tips the scales at more than 1,900kg, so even if the six-cylinder versions are reasonably swift off the line, they’re not out-and-out sports cars. The handling is composed enough, but the Cabriolet is hardly light on its feet. Merc’s Dynamic Select system is standard across the range, providing access to a choice of driving modes, but our advice would be to stick the car in Comfort and enjoy the impressively plush and refined ride. Just avoid the 20-inch wheels, which can thump over our imperfect roads. Air suspension – standard on the six-cylinder versions and optional on the others – does take the ride quality up another notch, but it’s expensive and we’d think twice before ticking the option box. Instead, sit back and enjoy the comfort-tuned standard suspension. Engines There are four engines to choose from: two petrols and two diesels. The entry-level E 220d develops 191bhp and 400Nm of torque to deliver a 0-62mph time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 147mph. The 4Matic setup adds 0.2 seconds to the 0-62mph time and 2mph to the top speed. The six-cylinder E 350d delivers 254bhp and 620Nm of torque, taking the 0-62mph time down to 6.1 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155mph. The E 300 is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine and can hit 62mph in 6.6 seconds. The flagship six-cylinder E 400 delivers 328bhp and 420Nm to provide a best-in-range 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph. Hybrid-powered AMG E 53 versions are expected to arrive later. In truth, the E 220d is the pick of the bunch for now. And if the act of selecting a four-cylinder diesel engine as the top choice seems sacrilegious in this post ‘dieselgate’ world, so be it. The fact is: it’s the engine best suited to the E-Class Cabriolet’s smooth and relaxed nature. Image 4 of 11 Image 4 of 11 The E 350d, while undoubtedly smooth and blessed with that added torque, is hampered by the additional weight, which blunts the performance and increases fuel consumption. It will also cost more to tax and insure. Meanwhile, the E 400 is far from being the topless AMG wannabe you’d hope it would be. The performance is best described as brisk, while the overall levels of refinement remove any sense of speed. It’ll also cost a considerable amount more to run than the entry-level cars. 4.2 Safety is an E-Class Cabriolet strong point, with active brake assist, parking assist, attention assist, a child seat recognition sensor and roll-over protection all standard across the range. The Driving Assistance package improves things further, adding a blind spot monitor, brake assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, evasive steering assist and Pre-Safe Plus, which takes preventive measures to protect the occupants in the event of a crash. The E-Class Cabriolet is unlikely to be crash tested by Euro NCAP, but owners should be encouraged by the five-star rating awarded to the saloon version in 2016. The Mercedes E-Class finished eighth in our 2017 Driver Power survey, scoring an impressive 92.56% for reliability. Sadly, Mercedes could only finish 21st in the brand survey, while its dealers were unable to make the top 10. Warranty All Mercedes models come with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty and up to 30 years European breakdown assistance. That’s par for the course and better than Audi, which limits its customers to 60,000 miles worth of coverage. Servicing The E-Class Cabriolet needs servicing every 15,500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes soonest. A three-year service package is available for £37 per month, which works out at £1,332 overall. 3.5 The E-Class Cabriolet is surprisingly practical, helped in no small part by the fabric roof, which leaves room for storage, even with the roof down. The only real criticism concerns the rather upright rear seats, which might be uncomfortable on a long trip. If the rear seats aren’t required, and you’re planning an extended holiday or trip to the DIY store, the 50:50 folding backrests create a through-loading feature. There’s also plenty of storage in the cabin, with a large glovebox, a lidded compartment in the centre console and deep door pockets. Size The E-Class Cabriolet has grown compared to its predecessor, with an overall length of 4,826mm, up 123mm from before. Width is up 74mm to 1,860mm, height up 30mm to 1,428mm, and the wheelbase up 113mm to 2,873mm. All very good from a practicality perspective – you just need to ensure the new E-Class Cabriolet will fit in your garage or on your driveway. It feels like quite a big car on the road, too. Leg room, head room & passenger space The increase in size is great news for rear seat passengers, with the amount of rear legroom up from 764mm to 866m. The fact that all four passengers have individual seats only serves to increase the feeling of space. Head, shoulder and elbow-room are also increased, most notably in the front, but also in the rear. Again, this enhances the sense that you’re in a baby S-Class Cabriolet, rather than a standalone model. Image 10 of 11 Image 10 of 11 Boot The boot might be shallow, but 385 litres provides a reasonable amount of luggage space. This drops to 310 litres with the roof down, meaning you won’t need to leave much behind if you intend to go topless. Despite sitting in the class below, the Audi A5 Cabriolet offers an impressive 380 litres with the roof up and 320 litres with the roof down, while the S-Class Cabriolets offers a relatively miserly 400 litres considering the price bump. 3.8 Unsurprisingly, the E 220d is the most efficient engine, offering a claimed 57.7mpg in standard guise and 49.6mpg when mated to the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel drive. At 41.5mpg, the E 350d is only marginally more efficient than the E 300 petrol, thanks to the additional weight and standard-fit all-wheel drive. The E 400 is the least efficient, at 32.8mpg. With CO2 emissions of 126g/km, the E 220d is the cheapest to tax at £160 for the first year, with 4Matic adding 20kg and an extra £40 in tax. The other models are far more expensive to tax: the E 300’s 167g/km equates to £500, the E 350d £800, and the E 400 £1,200. In all cases, the E-Class Cabriolet is subject to the £310 surcharge for cars costing more than £40,000, equating to a cost of £450 every year from year two. Image 6 of 11 Image 6 of 11 Insurance groups The E 220d should be the cheapest to insure, with a group rating of 40, although ticking the box marked ‘Premium Plus’ raises the premium by one level. The E350 d is likely to be the most expensive to insure (group 45), while the E 400 isn’t far behind (group 44). Depreciation The E-Class saloon is expected to hold onto 45 per cent of its value, and we would expect the Cabriolet to follow suit. The fact that it’s a genuine four-seater and all models are equipped with the desirable AMG Line trim will help its cause. Other factors that will influence the residual values include must-have options, the right colour, leather upholstery and 20-inch alloy wheels. Image is everything in this segment - so be careful when selecting one of the colourful roof options.

Trademark filings indicate AMG will revive its “73” series
http://www.autositenews.com/?p=7543

There was a time when the biggest and baddest AMG you could buy came with a 7.3-liter V-12 and a “73” badge on its trunk lid.
The car was the SL73, and it was sold in the 1990s in both coupe and convertible forms. Its engine, which delivered 525 horsepower, would eventually be picked by Pagani for its original Zonda supercar.
Now it appears AMG is set to revive its 73 series. Last month we learned of rumors that AMG was planning to launch an SL73 version of the next-generation SL, and that instead of a V-12 the car would get a V-8-based hybrid setup potentially delivering 805 horsepower. It's the setup AMG previewed in its GT sedan concept at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show.
It turns out there's some substance to the rumors. Motor1 has discovered trademarks filed by Mercedes-Benz with the European Union Patent and Trademark Office, which point to more than just a SL73 in the revived 73 series.
The trademark filings include “G73,” “GLS73” and “S73,” hinting at hot versions of the S-Class, G-Class and GLS. There were also trademark filings that indicate 40 and 50 series models are on the way for AMG's smaller cars. Curiously there was no “SL73,” but then again it's likely Mercedes already has the trademark reserved.
Expect the new 73 series to replace the V-12-based 65 series currently offered by AMG. The tuner has already stated that its V-12 engine is on the way out.
Will you be saddened by the demise of the V-12? Or are you in the camp that electrification technology makes the engine obsolete? Let us know in the comments below.
