As much as we love the artsy, idiosyncratic ~aesthetic~ direction YA covers have been taking in the last few years, we couldn’t help but put the ol’ Showdown spin on a selection of our favorites.
In the twelve covers above, we have added 27 elements that don’t belong. Each cover has at least one extra element, none have more than 3. Email us @ [email protected] with a list of all 27 elements and get +10 puzzle points!
The Bee’s Knees
2 oz Gin (because what else would you use during Prohibition?)
3/4 oz Fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz Honey syrup (one part honey, one part water)
Enjoy with your favorite flapper in your favorite speakeasy!
FYAON cocktail inspired by Caraval...Dante’s Ink 2 oz grape vodka, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz lemonade shake over ice, strain into class and add 1 oz grape juice, sprinkle liberally with luster dust and mix for a swirly magical concoction. Add a frozen grape dusted with luster dust for garnish (and more sparkles goodness)! Mocktail= The Julian (Dante’s little bro with no tats) just mix grape juice and lemonade.
In All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, 16 year old Rashad Butler is badly beaten by a police officer at a corner store. Here’s our interpretation of what the school newspaper may have looked like.
Evie O’Neill would have loved AVLFYA’s dinner party! Nothing like the roaring 20′s to bring out the party in us all. Sarah and Jennifer fixed food that was all part of the 1920 culture-- deviled eggs, shrimp cocktail, sliced ham, meat and cheese boards, pineapple upside down cake, Caesar salad, and Velveeta mac and cheese! And if you’re going to party, you have to dress the part too.
That’s the question for the ages, isn’t it? So, I’m going to find out who my daddy is even if it kills me. And it just might. Or maybe the debutante thing might kill me first. Or my grandmother. Or these other girls. Ugh. So, where to start...
Good place as any... She’s already crossed off some prospects. Now to see who’s left.
And of course we’ll use a little bit of science and sleuthing. Gotta figure out how to get into those bathrooms those.
And in the meantime, let’s figure out this debutante garbage. I can fix a car...I can definitely figure this out.
Fancy sweet and savory appetizers as we got ready to play... and because FYAON is so boozy, a dessert of Irish cream mousse! (Our cocktail/mocktail to follow!) +Feline friend for good luck!
If FYAON member Jamie went on a road trip to the locations of 5 FYA books, this would be her scrapbook! With the help of her local library’s green screen and photo editing software, it’s like she was really there! Yes, even in Grasshopper Jungle with a giant praying mantis!
