Portland Harbour and Bill in January

A really strong part of our week off to start the year under pretty winter skies a photo of this the first in this photoset, where my first ever Merlin which I loved seeing, Gannet, Black-throated Diver, Rock Pipit, Raven and Shag were key year ticks with a couple of Razorbills seen in that amazing week I had for them.

WWT Slimbridge in January

An ambitious day trip in that week off that brought me some of my birding highlights of the year, with a Glossy Ibis seen near the WWT centre, White-fronted Goose, Common Crane, Bewick’s Swan, Peregrine, Marsh Harrier and Golden Plover standout birds seen that day. I took the second picture in this photoset of Bewick’s Swan and Tufted Duck there.

RSPB Radipole Lake and Lodmoor on Easter Saturday

A standout day in my year for photos on a gloriously sunny day with me selecting photos I took of Blackbird, Pochard and cuckooflower at Radipole that day to go on my 2023 wildlife photos calendar, with bird year ticks Sand Martin and Common Tern, a fair few Cetti’s Warblers heard and seen and memorable scenes of a House Sparrow pecking at blossom, a Grey Heron feeding on an eel and Peacock butterfly other highlights on a real key spring day out for lots of facets of my hobby. I took the third picture in this set of a Great Crested Grebe at Radipole Lake that day.

Thursley Common in May

On a hot and sunny Global Big Day from Global Birding that I spent here my first Redstart and Spotted Flycatcher of the year, a brilliant Dartford Warbler, my first Four-spotted Chaser and Blue-tailed Damselfly of the year, Red Kite, Cinnabar moths as well as a few butterflies seen with many nice views savoured made this a day to stick long in the memory on a memorable day for me generally. I took the fourth picture in this photoset of a beautiful view there that day.

Knepp in July

A glorious edition of our July tradition now where I was honoured to see Purple Emperor and Purple Hairstreak, my first Gatekeeper of the year, Scarce Chaser and Southern Hawker dragonflies, Leopard moth which the fifth picture in this photoset shows, Hobby, centaury, and of course those inspirational White Storks.

Durlston in July

Hoards of rare Lulworth Skippers and also Wall Browns seen two of my butterflies of the year, lots of restharrow as the sixth picture in this set shows, Marbled White, Bloody-nosed beetle, Peregrine and Gannet headlined an epic day of varied wildlife watching by the sea with some truly beautiful views too on one of the key weekends of my year as a whole.

Visiting Bushy Park in our week off in September: Deers, birds and more

Spending a lot of time at Poole Harbour and also Stour Valley Nature Reserve in Dorset on our September week off, visiting Ham Common, Brownsea Island and doing a boat trip around the harbour with Birds of Poole Harbour

At Brownsea Island we saw the epic and iconic Red Squirrels and Spoonbills well on a good day for seeing mammals, birds and insects, at Ham Common Kingfisher and Swallow stood out, with Kingfisher starring later that same day at Stour Valley Nature reserve as did hawker dragonflies and on the boat trip it was sensational to see multiple Ospreys, a White-tailed Eagle and much more. Taking in amazing views on all the days too in great weather I took the ninth and tenth pictures in this photoset of two of the views.

So some sad news.

Yesterday (1/272022) my mom passed away.

She had been in the hospital since the 27th of November 2021 because of pancreatitis and peritonitis. But she just kept having medical issue after medical issue. I don’t think her heart or body could take it anymore.

It was very traumatic as my sister had noticed that my mothers chest has stopped moving and that her heart rate had gone down to 42.

For those wondering how we were visiting, the hospital here was allowing patients two visitors a day.

A few minutes after she told them this we were rushed out of the room and a “code blue” was announced over the intercom. It took them 20 minutes to get her heart going again but then she code blued again and it took them two more minutes.

My sister and I had no medical authority so we couldn’t make a decision, and we wouldn’t until we got a hold of my dad, who was underground in a coal mine, and my little brother.

We told the doctors to resuscitate out mother, and keep resuscitating her until my dad either got to the hospital, which he was two hours away, or gets in contact with him.

Thankfully the mine he works at has been accommodating since my mom got sick and ran down to get him as soon as I told them it was a code blue.

When he called my sister tried to tell him what was going on but she was incoherent with sobbing and hyperventilating that I took charge until my uncle and aunt came to sit with us.

The doctor came in and told us that my mother was more than likely brain damaged. There was no reaction when they shined a light in her eyes and no gag reflex.

My uncle helped me take charge til my dad got there. He, my brother, and sisters, and I all agreed that a vegetive state was not the kind of life my mother would have wanted to live.

So around 11:00 last night my mom passed away.

This is a grief unlike any other Iv had.

Please, those of you who have good relations with your moms. Hold her tight tonight. Cause you don’t know when you’ll get to hug her again.

2022 CIFSDS Champions-Crawford Boys Soccer

Boys soccer battled on Friday February 25 and emerged victorious.  Coming from behind 0-1 at the half, the Colts put 2 goals in to win the CIFSDS D4 Championship against The Bishops School.  Junior Vincent Smith and Sophomore Jamesly Exantus scored to help capture the title.  Singing, dancing and an amazing crowd joined the boys on the field to celebrate their accomplishment.  The Colts have made it to the finals several times, since 2014 only to leave as runners-up. This year, team chemistry, and an overwhelming belief pushed them over the top.  The Colts are led by coaches Humphrey Mahowa and Crawford Alumni/Player Abdi Osman.  The boys will play for the regional state play off on Tuesday March 1.  Senior Jimmy Recinos was name the Sportsmanship winner for the game for his hard work and dedication to the program for the past four years. *Reposted story from CHSCOLTS.ORG by Kelcie Butcher on Feb 27, 2022
