—— 1 year anniversary to Landslide [BOB FIC]

Wow! 1 year! I can’t even believe that just last year, I was sat in a lake house, in the late hours of the night, trying to figure out what idea was going to be my next for another Band of Brothers story! I remember the moment and where I had been sitting when the idea hit and looking back, I’m so glad it hit when it did. Landslide is far from that little idea I got in that lake house, but has continually developed, grown and changed in ways I look back and can’t even begin to think about how it even happened!

Natia Filipska has been a character that I will cherish close to my heart. Of course, I adore my other OCs and will always love them, but Natia holds an even more special place there in my heart because of the challenge in writing she has offered me. She gives me a challenge everyday - whether it’s having to rewrite a scene 5 times because “it’s just not her” or completely starting over a chapter because knowing Natia, she’d have a better way to get out of this situation.

I’ve also made one of my absolute favorite ships, coined “Fliptoye” by a few readers (you know who you are hehe) and it has grown to truly be a favorite of mine for so many reasons. There was no “love at first sight” or really anything like that. Just two human beings realizing they genuinely care for each other and enduring both the struggles and hardships that come along with realizing in war, you care for something that war can also touch. That for one of the first times it is not longer just about you or the buddy next to you. Natia Filipska and Joe Toye have been a joy to write!

And of course there was the month of disliking Richard Winters, the iconic nickname of “Mapkeeper” for Lewis Nixon, the Roman History nerd jokes that have now developed with Ronald Speirs, the slow start of some sort of friendship because of cracking a joke about Nix with Harry Welsh, and the comfort of a friend from Carwood Lipton.

Even Joe Liebgott and Natia Filipska have swiftly become a favorite duo and I can completely agree. Getting to see where they started and where they are now — from seeing their differences and arguments and heavy weighted disagreements to know finding ways to comfort each other even in the midst of war and making sure the other is okay and even eating. They’ve definitely been one of my favorite duos to go through that sort of character arc together.

AND OF COURSE, we can not forget one of the most important driving forces in the fic, Death, himself (alongside the sarcastic bits of War haha), most importantly the personification of Death. What draws me to a character like him, is more than anything the fact words can not be communicated between Natia and Death yet they hold such a strong willed connection, that you almost don’t need to worry about words. Each layer that builds with their connection, leads for an even darker end and makes Death even more fascinating in the end.

You can’t forget a guy like Agent Mortem! Without him Natia and Agent “Fidel” wouldn’t be here right? Right? Right….? Well…..anyway…..even with who he is and his partially uncovered past, Agent Mortem remains a heavy asset to Landslide as the leading cause for WHY Natia could possibly even be the way she is and to provide backstory on a multitude of other things, and for reason for Natia to have her redemption. There’s so much unexplored. And I’m so ready to talk about it! :D

Landslide has challenged me in ways I can’t even begin to describe both mentally and emotionally with my writing. I’ve had to rewrite, rework, edit over and over just to get it right but at the end of the day, it is always worth it. In some ways I don’t even know what else to say, and almost think the story can speak for itself! It is made for you to interpret it they way you wish to interpret it, there’s no right way to see who Natia is or what Landslide is about — whether for you it be about family, friendship, love in war, darkness and overcoming that, the struggles of mental health, finding your own inner peace or independence….whatever it may be, I hope it has possibly even helped you somehow in anyway :) Even with the MAJOR HECKING ANGST (LMAO💀) or the extremely sad parts (that honestly are probably just super sad to me LOL), it still is a fic full of lessons and stories equally about someone like Natia!

CANON MUSES

name of your favorite muse: Probably either Bellatrix or Mary. I’ve played Bellatrix for years, and actually RPed her on her own blog before making this one, so writing her comes naturally. She’s so awful and disturbing, but also fiercely independent and wild while still being dutiful and doing what is best for the family. A lot of people portray her as either one or the other, but the point of my portrayal of Bellatrix is that she can be both of these seemingly contradictory things and how she is both of these things at the same time. But Mary has quickly become a favourite of mine, because of her complexity and the darkness she grapples with and how just because she’s dealt with one form of trauma, doesn’t mean she’ll react the same to another form of trauma. But she’s still her, fundamentally, even if she can’t believe it, or wants to believe it.

name of your very first muse: On this blog? Alecto! For HP? Probably Bellatrix, in all honesty. I mean, I’m pretty certain; I mainly played her in group rpgs. My very first canon muse in general? Uhhh, I’m honestly not sure but it MIGHT’VE been Amara from TVD. I played her for a bit, back when i was still into TVD, along with Ayana. But tbh I don’t have a clue, I’ve been doing this thing for so long, I can’t remember.

name of your meanest muse: Alecto. Bellatrix is pretty fucking awful and is up there, and I almost answered with her but @ourpyrrhicvictory convinced me otherwise. Yes, Alecto doesn’t really hate Muggles all that much and anyone can feel the brunt of Bellatrix’s wrath but Alecto’s just... so malicious? They are both cruel. But Alecto directs a lot of her cruelty towards her half-brother and she’s just so... petty about it.

name of your nicest muse: Mate, I don’t know. There’s Étiennette, Katie, Lily, Charity... I guess I’ll pick Katie because she’s just so nice and sweet, but in a way that’s different to everyone else. Like she’s competitive, but outside of Quidditch, she’s harmless and she doesn’t like or want to hurt people.

name of your most troubled muse: Oh boy! It’s pretty close between Dorcas and Mary, but I still do think Mary easily wins out. She’s just been through a lot and goes through a lot. Losing her parents, then being raised in a Muggle orphanage for a time away from Scotland because her grandparents don’t want her, having to hide her magic. Then when she’s found a place in Hogwarts and friends who love her and she loves them, Mulciber comes in and ruins everything, and the trauma from that experience changes her and she grapples with a lot of inner-darkness and hatred and is pretty self-destructive. And then she loses basically everyone she loved and cared about. Survivor’s guilt is a bitch.

two of your muses that would never get along: Bellatrix and Alice, for very obvious reasons.

two of your muses that would make a cute couple: A cute couple? Uh... I guess Katie and Romilda would be pretty cute, once Romilda improves on her selfishness and stuff.

two of your muses that are most similar: Okay, so, I have insecurities over making my characters too similar and try to make them actual, flawed characters. But! Alecto and Bellatrix. As described before, they’re both pretty fucking terrible people and a lot of their cruelty comes from a place of anger and hatred. But they deal with it differently.

name of the muse you’d be best friends with irl: Honestly, maybe Lily! We have a similar protective streak of our friends and will punch someone for them.

name of the muse you’d probably hate irl: Bellatrix and Alecto without any hesitation. I mean, they’re fucking wizard Nazis. And they torture and murder a lot of people. Like, I would just hate them on principle alone, even if I didn’t know they fucking killed people.

a faceclaim you’ve been eager to use: Taylor Russell! Also James Rolleston, who I nominally have as Donaghan Tremlett but will probably be removing, since I haven’t done anything with him whatsoever. But Taylor Russell is just sooo pretty, holy shit. And Elodie Yung, because she’s awesome and beautiful.

name of your favorite muse: Honestly? Leta. They were a passion project, with me taking like a couple details from a deleted canon character and running away with it. They sat on the back-burner for quite a bit, before I finally made this blog and included them on it. They’re all about adaptability and fluidity and identity, and how that ties together. You can thank Filthy Rich for inspiring me - with a dash of Inej from SOC.

name of your very first muse: Written on this multimuse? Grisha. First HP OC, period? I honestly couldn’t tell you, probably some self-insert or some shit. My very first OC I roleplayed just in general? A winged ice wolf named Glace. Do not judge me, I was pretty hard into the whole wolf/Warrior Cats forum rps when I was younger.

name of your meanest muse: Mafalda. She’s just very bratty, arrogant, and rude; even if her arrogance is somewhat justified by her academics. She’s capable of playing nice if she considers you an “equal”, Hermione being a bit of an exception, but she’s just quite a lot to deal with. She’s not on the level of like Bellatrix or Alecto and she’s not a blood purist or anything like that - the exact opposite considering the fact that her parents are a Muggle and a Squib, meaning she’s a half-blood - it’s just that she’s... very mean lmao

name of your nicest muse: Grisha! God, Grisha is just... so nice and friendly man, and I mean that’s part of the reason why she gets fucked over, but yeah, she’s like pretty sociable and easy to get along with. It doesn’t mean she’s perfect by any means, she’s a Gryffindor through-and-through, both the good and the bad. But why be a dick when you can just be generally nice to people and treat them well for free?

name of your most troubled muse: Leta without a doubt. You don’t have the kind of backstory that they have and go through the shit they have without coming out of it at least a little bit troubled. And Leta has a lot of shit to deal with.

two of your muses that would never get along: Man, I honestly don’t know. I feel like any one of them would maybe clash initially but then eventually come to work out their differences and shit and come to an understanding. But for the sake of it, maybe Grisha and Mafalda? She’d just be like “why can’t you just be kinder to people?” and Mafalda would wallow in teenage angst, or something.

two of your muses that could be best friends: Leta and Grisha? They’re both pretty different people but opposites attract and all of that. Plus they could bond over their pretty drastic but mutual experiences with Voldemort/Tom. And Grisha would definitely feel sorry for Leta and their unfortunate circumstance. Yeah, I do feel like they’d get along.

two of your muses that would make a cute couple: On the same topic, Leta and Grisha? Then again, it’s also more of the fact that Leta and Grisha are closer in age than either of them with Mafalda lmao But yeah, for the same reasons that I stated above.

two of your muses that are most similar: Leta and Malalda? They both had to grapple with issues concerning their identities and place expectations on themselves in different ways.

name of the muse you’d be best friends with irl: Grisha, probably. I’ve already talked about how nice she is and stuff, but also IRL I’ve just often gotten along and become friends with people way more extroverted. So you know, that’s just how it goes lmao

name of the muse you’d probably hate irl: Mafalda, I guess? If we were both in highschool at the same time, at least. I mean, I’ve met a few girls similar to Mafalda when I was in highschool, and I wasn’t exactly their biggest fans. Hate is a strong word, tho.

a faceclaim you’ve been eager to use: Holly Earl is a big one, fell in love with her as Erica Mason in the 2019 FMV video game Erica. She’s super pretty in it. Also whichever one I eventually choose for my Squib Slughorn journalist, because I have a lot of them lined up for her.

dorcas is one of my favs lmao but her aside…. uhhh…  honestly i’m someone who generally creates a character for LIFE ( i’ve been writing some characters for nearly a decade now ) so… this isn’t easy. i’ll say  neal brar (oc), kitsey greyson (oc, i never get to write her and it’s such a shame), and valentina salgado (oc) ok fuck also tiberius ogden (oc) and malena bedford (oc) i can’t leave either of them out.

dorcas with any of the marauders like………………………. no thanks. never, thanks. ( MAYBE with james or peter in some au, but it’s a pretty massive maybe ). or like ships with death eaters that are completely random and have zero solid/logical foundations. 

otherwise, i’m super open with ships. i’m primarily plot based, even with my ships to be honest. i’ve been in situations where dorcas had chemistry with another character  but the plots me and the other player came up, ship-wise, just didn’t speak to me at all so even though we were supposed to “ship” because our characters had chemistry or w/e, i wasn’t really up for it.

i’ve had some nice ships with ocs from historical verses, modern royalty, and x-men verses. 

in the harry potter universe, i’ve had ships with a bunch of ocs and minor canons. think it, i’ve probably done it. i’ve had ships with muggle characters, death eaters (members or leaning), order members, journalists, diplomats, hit wizards, inventors, celebrities, etc.

all of these are old as shit and i haven’t talked to my partners in ages but thus far my most well plotted out + favourite ships/ship plots have been with:

gideon prewett - it was a friends turned lovers ship, but it was very complicated as it developed over the course of a solid 5 years and with the war gideon developed a drinking problem and there were many other mini sub-plots… it was… great, but MY kind of great with lots of character development and slow burn and it ended with them going “ok we can figure this out we’ll make a proper effort” and then gideon died like a week later lmao. ( we had a star wars au for this too )

evan rosier - met at school. they were just kids. he stopped talking to her when he was 12 because he found out she was a halfblood and she absolutely didn’t put up with his nonsense. two years later they had the chance to talk about it… and they were unable to stop talking since then, behind doors that is. they always had a very peculiar dynamic, meeting in the middle in certain aspects, being ruled by their education and backgrounds in others, and above all showing each other two very different perspectives of what would become a war ( and, in their own ways, they used the knowledge they got from each other as a sort of leverage later on - knowledge is power, so it goes ). after graduation they grew apart, then close again, then he tried to pull some really stupid things after he got married and their dynamic deteriorated considerably after that and as the war progressed. there was always going to be something there even if only given to how much they shared with each other, but i was very open about dorcas not having romantic feelings for him anymore ( and gd knows having them in the first place was an identity crisis as it was ) but my partner at the time told me he would continue to have feelings for her which made the whole dynamic even more interesting. there was always tension, and angst, and power dynamics and one time they did exchange war related information once ( they never said where their affiliations lied, but they didn’t need to at that point, to either of them it was blatantly clear ) but it was on a very particular case concerning the murder of a diplomat where both the order and the death eaters were being blamed when neither side had been involved. 

an oc auror  AND I APOLOGIZE BUT YOU’LL ALL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ME WITH THIS ONE BC IT WAS ONE OF MY FAV DYNAMICS AND I LOVE AND MISS IT DEARLY. they met while she was still studying to be a healer, he asked her out she said yes but then life happened and they never did get to go on that date. fast-forward a year she’s working at the ministry as a secretary like five desks away from him, huffing at aurors and hit wizards for not filling their reports correctly and no she’s not going to bloody write them for you. he was awkward and self-conscious about it but there were no hard feelings about the failed date (dorcas had literally just joined the order so she had a lot on her plate anyway). very gradually they got talking, hooked up, it turned into a “oh no don’t worry about it it was nothing serious we were just blowing off some steam” which turned into “oh crap im falling in love” and eventually they started dating and it was the most wonderful thing in the world… and then like 6 months into it dorcas broke up with him because it was, like, early 1979 and every time they got together he ended up talking poorly of the order ( they broke up when, one day, he was trashing the order after, unbeknownst to him, the order had saved his ass and his partner’s ass and dorcas was just sitting there with the damn take out he had brought thinking “i really did this to myself huh fuck my entire life i have to end this”. they ended things abruptly and still very much in love. ) fast-forward some months he ends up reaching out to her somewhat awkwardly because he doesn’t know who to talk to ( he was a person of strong convictions but very private and he had grown very used to being able/feeling comfortable talking to her ). what did he want to get off his chest? that he had just discovered he had child. some 3 year old girl. the mother kept him in the dark about their daughter ( her reasons were that she didn’t think he was ever going to make a good father due to how much of a workaholic he was ) and he stumbled on the information. he ended up admitting to dorcas he desperately wanted to have a relationship with the child but didn’t know how to and long story short they started dating again, so painfully gradually and casually. dorcas wasn’t always present when he was with his daughter, but she was far from a stranger to the little girl. however, by mid 1980 the war was at its peak and dorcas was leading like 4 parallel lives and going to too many funerals - she was running on fumes and she did have an emotional breakdown once in front of him one time but it was after his daughter caught dragon pox and he assumed she was just overwhelmed and being sensitive ( he was so thrown off that while he was anxious himself he even went as far as cracking a joke about how she was the one who usually kept it together ). in early 1981 he started seeing his daughter more regularly, there was an unofficially joint custody thing going, and he wanted to take their relationship to the next level. not marriage by any means just, something more tangible and sure and clear, primarily because he didn’t want to have someone in his daughter’s life who would just not be in it for the long run. so they sat down and he told her everything that was going on inside his head, he said that it wasn’t that he didn’t trust her to be around he just needed to have the conversation with her… and dorcas was sitting there thinking “yes, this is something i want, this doesn’t scare me, this makes me happy, i love this person and i love that little girl like she was mine and i want to grow to love her and her father even more.” so she said she didn’t. she said she wasn’t interested; that he had read her wrong. she thought of the two broken ribs she had some weeks prior and how edgar and his wife and their children were six feet under. they parted away, never spoke again, and she was murdered like 5 months later in july/august. i shared ideas and hcs, but, as an active contributing writer, the story ended here for me. however, the way my former roleplay partner wrote what happened after dorcas’ death goes like this:years later, he ended up marrying the mother of his child ( they were able to reconnect in a healthy way because of how much character development he experienced while dating dorcas ). they had two other children.  around twenty years later, the dust of the second war settling and previously private information about both wars was gradually becoming public. one morning his eldest daughter was reading the newspaper and she casually asked mom and dad, sitting at the table with her, if they knew anyone who fought in the first war. they both mentioned a handful of hit wizards and aurors, and that was that - she closed the newspaper dismissively and left to meet with friends. it was summer. i can’t remember if it was later that day or the day after, but he asked her what had prompted her to ask such question and she said there was a face in the newspaper that seemed familiar. he asked her the name of the person, she couldn’t remember only that it was “funny but familiar”, and as she went to get the newspaper she continued that that neither he nor mom had said it. he got his glasses, she opened the newspaper for him in the multi-page article about new information from the first war and pointed at one of the several small moving photographs - the penny dropped as he recognized the face right away.a lot of things made sense after he found out dorcas was a member of the order, it was, in a way a relief for him to discover it because it filled in a lot of blanks ( and it made him feel better in the sense that no, he hadn’t been the problem in their relationship )… but on the other hand it was also highly bittersweet and conflicting, and he had more questions and about a thousand new feelings and emotions to process. the worst part was she had been dead for two decades so it wasn’t as thought he could talk to her about it. i think that ( i can’t remember ) at some point, in anger and frustration, he thought that she should have told him, and then he remembered what he was like and what his views of the order were and he was forced to admit to himself that if she had said anything to him, if she had trusted him with that information, his self from twenty years ago would have been highly judgmental and ended things immediately ( we had an au where this happened and it was the most horrible thing - it was right after an attack and they hadn’t even showered yet and dusted themselves off and he just told her to leave, didn’t even look her in the eye ). eventually he came to terms with her decisions and understood why she had made them and was able to tell his eldest daughter why the women in the photo looked familiar.

i don’t think i’ve had a single ship for dorcas, in any universe, where she ends up happy lmao bottoms up i don’t know how to write happy endings (unless it’s in aus) cheers.

looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? - tbh I thought I’d write more but it makes sense that I wrote less because school was so hectic. 

what’s your own favorite story of the year? - the glory of City Slicker will never be forgotten. 

did you take any writing risks this year? - I did a gift exchange for DA which was new. Also I tried to finish an appreciation week (Fenris woo) which I’ve never done before. OH I also wrote an Overwatch fic for two characters I didn’t know very well before I even started playing the game and I nailed their personalities so like. Go me. 

do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year? - tbh I’m probably moving away from fanfic as I start doing my own original stuff, but I still have a few fanfics I really want to finish and put up on AO3 before I go away from fanfic semi-permenantely. 

best story of the year? - debatable. In terms of like, pure actual writing I’d say Nothing More is a strong contender. I’m bad at writing short things but I think I did a good job there. 

most popular story of the year? - on AO3 it’s Child’s Play with almost 1k hits.

story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion - City Slicker ahahaha can you tell I like this story a lot.

most fun story to write - still City Slicker there’s not much that can beat writing a meet-cute wherein the two meet through Farmer’s Only.

story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters most & most unintentionally telling story - hmmm maybe Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One and Junkrat. It’s really easy to think of him as just some loose canon but I think there’s a deeper character there. I probably should finish the story lmao.

hardest story to write - definitely Ask Me No Questions I’ll Tell You No Lies. I’m not comfortable writing another person’s OC because it gives me anxiety lmao.

biggest disappointment - I didn’t write a single goddamn thing for Fenris Appreciation Month and I’m still mad at myself for it.

biggest surprise - that I was able to write any fanfic? I mean this year was just really hard for me in terms of writing because I’ve been so busy so like, having any completed fanfic is kind of a big deal.

The Glassjaw song was on one of them and I have strong recollections of listening to it on the way to school and being totally floored by the sheer amount of energy in it.

New year thingy late af as usual

SO. I KNOW IM LATE. NEW YEAR WAS 3 DAYS AGO. but you’ll forgive me because you all love me ( right ?? ) anyway!! I’ve been in this fandom (on tumblr) for approximately 4 months and while I’ve got ups and downs getting into that whole tumblr business, you all have been incredible! Both my followers and my roleplay partners and anyone who ever interacted with me! I would do a follow forever list but it would be hypocritical of me since I have a toc that makes me unfollow people who are inactive after 2+ weeks (unless my biased little ass waits a month because they’re a doflamingo or another muse I REALLY enjoy) so, instead of lying and pretending I’ll never unfollow anyone, I’m gonna make a small thingy for the people I’ve met and who (bless their ass) have made my days so incredible since I joined!

To be completely honest, Law isn’t even a character I enjoy that much in the One Piece universe, I felt like I was let down post-war and my tiny gay heart still wishes he tampered with Luffy’s body and reveal himself a villain later on ---- but that’s just me. In any case, any time I read you on my dash, my mind is blown with how in character you are. All your threads are amazing and even the one we have started I really love! If anything, you might have rekindled my interest in his character because of how great you are ( I see your Law as even better than the canon one, if that makes sense ). The insights you give about your muse are so detailed and heartfelt I cannot possibly not like your portrayal. Because her personality is so rich, so flavorful I cannot  do anything but express my love for her. Your OC is, in my opinion, one of the realest , most heartfelt original character in this fandom. Sorry, I don’t mean to depreciate anyone but I just really really really really love Akane. I love a LOT of other OCS but the dynamic between Akane and my muses is just too good for me to ignore. Even with Noya jfc. She’s the kind of character that can pretty much interact with anyone, she would be a very canon One Piece character too, in my opinion. ( Going to celebrate 12 years in february, with Croc as a muse ! ) ANYWAY. I’ve always been turned off to rp with Vivi in general because of all those self-inserting mary sues I’ve met and I was reluctant at first to interact with you because of that but you BRING HER TO LIFE instead of bringing your life into her, which I cannot thank you enough for. I’ve never met such a dedicated roleplayer for Vivi that aimed for something else than getting herself captured and f*cked by Croc :’) And though we have a rp that is similar to that theme, Vivi is still in character and I really, really, really appreciate that. I am interacting with a VIVI, finally, after nearly 12 years. It’s so good I want to sob. Thank you so much and I hope we can have a lot more roleplays in the future.
