Outlook For Mac Transfer To Mail
Tumblr media
Also, none of these two email clients incorporates a native option to transfer MBOX files into Outlook platform. Also, the fact that the migration is taking place from one OS (Mac) to another OS. Outlook 2016 for Mac, Outlook for Mac for Office 365; In this article. Original KB number: 2649169. Consider the following scenario: You try to transfer data from Outlook 2016 for Mac or Outlook for Mac 2011, such as email and contacts, to Outlook for Windows. To do this, you try to import the.olm file that was exported from Outlook.
In this era, where technology changes so fast, no one really knows for how long they will be working on the same application. This is true in the case of email migration as well. Here, we want to take your attention to the point why people switch over from one technology to another one. Most of the time, they are attracted to the enhanced features of the new application. If we say same reason lies behind the switch over from Mac default Apple Mail client to Microsoft Outlook, then it will not be wrong. But here, this process of change over is not the easier one. Be it in search of a better alternative or professional reasons, if you are to migrate Mac Mail to Outlook 2019, then you are in a complicated situation.
This article encompasses proper solutions for both Windows & Mac platform. So just dig in!
What Complications Arise While Importing Mac Mail Emails in Outlook?
A simple answer to this question would be that both these email clients are incompatible in terms of data storage file. Here, Mac Mail makes use of a single file with .mbox extension to save all its mailbox data. The Outlook client depends on OST and PST format for the same. Also, this generic mailbox file of Mac mail only stores emails and attachments. Whereas, Outlook data file saves everything from emails, attachments, tasks, calendars, contacts, etc. Thus the data file conversion process is more complex than it actually appears.
If we talk about official methods then, neither of the two email clients, provide any kind of native support for migration. Not even, Mac Outlook provides any solution for this, though it operates on the same platform.
How to Migrate Mac Mail to Outlook 2019?
Technically there are 3 methods that users can implement for a successful migration to Outlook platform. But this should be noted that each way has its own set of conditions that must be met. Let’s take a look at them:
Each of the defined manual processes has one prerequisite i.e, generation of MBOX mailbox files from Mac Mail. So before moving on, make sure you have the data files.
Prerequisite – Exporting Mac Mail mailboxes
Open the Mac Mail application and select the folders
Right-click on the folder and choose Export Mailbox… option
Set the storage location to save the mailbox database
Repeat the steps for each and every mailbox folder that you wish to export.
In case there is no Export option, follow the given alternative:
Open the Finder, and go to Library.
From here, navigate to Mail – Mailboxes folder. Here, all the MBOX files will be present. Simply copy them to an easily accessible location (say, a folder on Desktop)
I. Using Eudora to Transfer Mac Mail emails to Outlook
In this method, we will rename all the Mac mailbox files and open them in Eudora. Then use the native import option of Outlook to access the emails. The steps to do so are as follows:
1. Rename the mailbox files to end with .mbx extension (say, Inbox.mbox → Inbox.mbx)
2. Copy the renamed files to Eudora location:
C:Program FilesQualcommEudora, or
C:UsersUSERRoamingAppDataQualcommEudora, or
C:Documents and SettingsUSERApplication DataQualcommEudora
3. Run Eudora application and double-click on the MBX file.
4. Run Outlook 2010 or lower version & go to File > Open.
5. Select the Import option > import Internet mail and Addresses > click Next.
6. Now select the Eudora (Pro and Light) option from the list and hit Next.
7. In the browse section select the Eudora Mail folder and click Ok for process initiation.
Important Note:
Tumblr media
The first and foremost issue with this method is that the defined import option is only present in Outlook 2010 and lower versions. Not to mention that none of the Mac Outlook platform even have this from the start.
So in order to migrate Mac Mail to Outlook, export the PST file from Outlook 2010/2007, then import it in Outlook 2019, 2016 for Mac or Windows.
II. A 3-step manual Mac Mail to Outlook migration
In this method, there is a requirement of two external applications i.e., Eudora(7 or lower) and Outlook Express. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: (Same as the previous method)
Rename all the Mac mail .mbox files into .mbx files and move them to Eudora mailbox location.
Launch Eudora and double-click on MBX files. Close Eudora.
Step 2:
Tumblr media
Launch Outlook Express and go to the File menu
Select Import > Messages, choose Eudora and hit Next
Now, browse the renamed MBX files.
Click on Next (x2) and hit the Finish button.
Step 3:
Source: Microsoft site
Launch MS Outlook 2010 or 2007, open the Import/Export wizard.
Choose this option – Import internet mail and addresses, click Next.
Choose Outlook express, click Next > Finish.
Important Note:
The complete process is lengthy and time-consuming. Additionally, there is a requirement of outdated external applications like Eudora and Outlook Express. User needs to make sure to keep backup of Mac Mail files as there are chances of data loss in this case.
The Automated Way to Migrate Mac Mail to Outlook
After going through these two solutions, it is understandable why professionals always direct users towards third-party utilities.
First, there are no direct/ native methods for such migration.
Second, the workarounds are either outdated or carry too much risk.
Third, almost every solution assumes that conversion is for Windows platform
But don’t worry! We have got you covered.
Use MBOX to PST Converter for quality conversion without losing a single shred of data. It allows quick and easy Mac mail to Outlook 2019 migration without sacrificing the email attributes.

Congratulations on getting a shiny new Mac!
You probably have years worth of email sitting in Outlook.
How do you migrate it over?
There are different ways to do it, but MessageSave is by far the easiest and most reliable! (As opposed to some of the other methods, it correctly handles large mailboxes, timestamps, attachments, sender addresses, foreign language emails, etc.)
Download MessageSave and see for yourself how simple it is.
The process is very simple:
Download and install MessageSave on your Windows PC and restart Outlook.
Run 'Export Messages' menu command to export your Outlook folders as MBOX files. Outlook 2010 or newer: Click on the small triangle under the MessageSave button, select 'Apple Mac Export -> Export Messages'. Outlook 2007 or older: Click on the 'Tools -> MessageSave -> Apple Mac Export -> Export Messages' menu command
Copy the MBOX files over to the Mac.
Import the MBOX files into your Mac mail client ( Apple Mail, Outlook for Mac or Entourage ).
That's it. You're done. View the demo to see how simple it is.
Note: MessageSave also supports exporting Contacts and Calendar in addition to migrating messages.
To import an MBOX file into Apple Mail:
Copy the .mbox file to your Mac. A USB flash drive or an external hard drive is probably the easiest way to do that.
Open Apple Mail.
Invoke 'File->Import Mailboxes' menu command.
Check the 'Files in mbox format' option and click 'Continue'.
Select your MBOX files in the next window and click 'Continue'.
That's it. You are done. Congratulations!
View the video if you would like to see the entire process in action.
Outlook For Mac Export Mail To Pst
To import an MBOX file into Entourage:
Copy the .mbox file to your Mac. A USB flash drive or an external hard drive is probably the easiest way to do that.
Open Entourage.
Simply drag and drop the mbox file(s) onto the Entourage Inbox (in the Entourage folder list).
After that, you should see a small triangle to the left of the Inbox. Click on it to display the newly imported folder(s). Note: If you have a large number of messages, Entourage might take a bit of time processing your MBOX file.
That's it. You are done. Congratulations!
View the video if you would like to see the entire process in action.
To import an MBOX file into Outlook 2011 for Mac:
Copy the .mbox file to your Mac. A USB flash drive or an external hard drive is probably the easiest way to do that.
On your Mac, in Outlook 2011, select 'Outlook 2011 -> File -> Import' menu command.
Select 'Contacts or messages from a Text file' option.
Click on 'Continue' (Right arrow button).
Select 'Import messages from an MBOX-format text file'.
Click on 'Continue' (Right arrow button)
Select the MBOX file(s) you'd like to import. (If you are unable to select MBOX files because they are greyed out, please see the next section).
Click on 'Import' button.
Click on 'Finish' button.
You will find the imported mailboxes under 'ON MY COMPUTER'. (Note: If 'ON MY COMPUTER' section is in collapsed mode, click on the triangle next to it to expand it).
Outlook For Mac Transfer To Mailbox
If you see that MBOX files are greyed out in the 'Import Mail' window (Step 7 above)
Download this application to the Mac.
Double-click to unzip it.
Double-click on the unzipped file 'mbfr'. If you receive an error while launching mbfr, please follow steps in the 'How to open an app from a unidentified developer and exempt it from Gatekeeper' section of this article. If the error indicates that the 'app is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash', then follow these steps.
Open Apple menu - System Preferences - Security and Privacy - General tab. Gatekeeper options are found under the header 'Allow applications downloaded from:'.
Set the 'Gatekeeper' option to 'Anywhere'.
Once the import is done, be sure to restore the Gatekeeper option to the original value.
Point it to the folder where your MBOX files are located.
After that restart Outlook, and you should be able to select MBOX files in the 'Import Mail' window.
Mac Mail Outlook Settings
Additional important notes about importing email
MBOX format is supported only when using MessageSave with Outlook 2002 or newer.
MessageSave only exports email messages, contacts and calendar from Windows Outlook. It does not export from Outlook 2011 for Mac. Import into Outlook 2011 for Mac is supported.
To import an mbox file into Entourage, simply drag and drop it onto one of the folders in the Entourage folder list. Be sure to drop it into a local (On My Computer) folder, as opposed to a folder on a server. (You will be able to move it later).
Apple Mail and Entourage might have trouble importing very large mbox files (over 3000 messages). If you hit this issue, try splitting your large Outlook folder into smaller folders with fewer than 3000 messages each. This is a Mail and Entourage issue, not MessageSave.
Apple Mail (and Thunderbird) have issues importing mbox files with very long names, or with certain characters, such as #, in the file name. If you see errors, try renaming your mbox file.
We have tested MessageSave on folders with tens of thousands of messages - it worked without a hitch. However, exporting large folders might take a bit of time. Also, the evaluation version is limited to processing 50 messages at a time. Be assured that the full version does not have this limit.
When you try to import the mbox file(s) into Apple Mail, the import dialog may display the mbox files as grayed out. Simply click 'Choose' and Apple Mail will import the files.
In some cases, when you import a large MBOX file into Apple Mail, then look in the Imported folder, you would see only headers and no message bodies. This happens while the imported messages are still being processed. And if you try to open or move them during that time, import might abort. Please restart your mail application, import messages again and leave the machine as is for about 30 minutes. After that you should see the messages. Then you should see your messages fully imported.
Transfer Apple Mail To Outlook
Apple computers are becoming more and more popular. You see the silver MacBooks everywhere. Apple's ad campaigns seem to be working very well as more and more people are switching from Windows computers to Macs. With that, they often have a need to bring their mail over to the new platform.
Outlook is the most popular email client for Windows. MessageSave makes it very easy to export your Outlook email and import it into a Mac mail client, such as Apple Mail, Entourage, etc. MessageSave will work with any Outlook email account (PST or Exchange). MessageSave preserves attachments, sender email addresses, message timestamps, multiple languages. Download the free trial version and see for yourself how easy it is. MessageSave supports exporting contacts and Calendar in addition to migrating messages.

Will Derby's loan stars haunt Chelsea? When loanees face their parent club
On Wednesday, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori face the curious case of playing against the club who employ them.
Both are on loan at Championship side Derby County from Chelsea, who meet in the Carabao Cup fourth round, and – if selected – can play at Stamford Bridge.
Players out on loan cannot face their parent club in Premier League matches – of which more later – but they can do in English Football League competitions, provided permission is given, and that is what Chelsea have done.
Chelsea say the experience of “facing top-level opposition” will benefit 19-year-old midfielder Mount – called up to the England squad earlier this season – and defender Tomori, 20.
Derby boss Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer, called it a “classy” move.
“I am really pleased for these young Chelsea lads who have come through the system and whose dream it is to play at Stamford Bridge,” said Lampard.
“I have to completely say thank you to Chelsea because it was their call, their decision. I think they have seen the bigger picture in terms of what a great experience it will be for their players.”
But will the decision come back to haunt the Premier League club? Here are seven lessons they may have learned from previous loan escapades.
Loan sharks can strike early
<!–
Mount and Tomori will no doubt feel they have a point to prove against their parent club, just as Patrick Roberts did when sent on loan to Celtic from Manchester City.
When the Scottish champions faced City in the Champions League group stages in December 2016, Roberts took all of four minutes to score a smart solo goal at Etihad Stadium.
City were already through and Celtic eliminated, but the winger had no qualms about celebrating his effort in 1-1 draw.
Will Mount and Tomori celebrate if they net against Chelsea? Well, why not?
It can happen to Europe’s biggest clubs
Five years and three Champions League winners’ medals into his Real Madrid career, Fernando Morientes found himself playing back-up at the Bernabeu to Brazil striker Ronaldo – the latest addition to the Galactico pack in 2002.
Come the 2003-04 campaign, he opted for a loan move to Ligue 1 side Monaco, helping them to an unlikely spot in the Champions League final and finishing as the competition’s top scorer with nine goals.
Two of those came against his parent club in the quarter-finals.
Real were not fazed by Morientes’ first, a late header in a 4-2 defeat at the Bernabeu, but it proved crucial as Monaco staged a dramatic comeback at Stade Louis II to win 3-1 and go through on the away goals rule, with the aggregate score 5-5.
The Spaniard set up Ludovic Giuly, who scored twice, and also scored himself as Monaco progressed, losing to Jose Mourinho’s Porto in the final.
<!–
Learn from your mistakes
The Morientes saga might have prompted Real Madrid to limit the chance of a repeat scenario, but 14 years later, they almost got bitten again.
Real agreed a fee of up to £71m with Monaco for World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez in 2014, but after three stuttering seasons, the Colombia playmaker was shipped out on a two-year loan to Bayern Munich.
Predictably, Real drew the German giants in the Champions League semi-final, with Rodriguez setting up Joshua Kimmich as Bayern slipped to a 2-1 home defeat in the first leg. He went one better at the Bernabeu, netting Bayern’s second goal.
Rodriguez refused to celebrate his effort and thanked fans for the “ovation” he received in Madrid, with Bayern ultimately beaten as Zinedine Zidane’s Real secured a 2-2 draw to reach the final.
And talking of learning from your mistakes…
Fool me once…
<!–
Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie will neither be the first nor the most high-profile case of an on-loan Chelsea player lining up against their parent club.
After joining Chelsea in 2011, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, playing three times against the Blues in Europe – starting with a 4-1 Super Cup win in 2012.
However, it was Courtois’ role in the Champions League semi-finals the following season that sparked much debate. It also led to Uefa overruling an agreement in the loan deal that would have required Atletico to pay Chelsea a reported £5m fee to allow him to feature in both legs.
Uefa said any private contract between clubs which might influence player selection was “null, void and unenforceable”, so Courtois played, and played well, as the sides drew 0-0 in Madrid before stunning Jose Mourinho’s side with a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge to reach the final.
Super subs pose a threat
Bayern Munich have done pretty well out of long-term loan deals for some of the world’s top young talents. Before Rodriguez, there was Kingsley Coman.
The French winger joined the Bundesliga side on a two-year loan from Juventus in August 2015 and faced the Italians later that season in the Champions League last 16.
Both legs finished 2-2 after 90 minutes – meaning extra time. After Thiago Alcantara had edged Bayern ahead, 19-year-old Coman put the tie beyond his parent club with a fourth goal.
Mount has scored twice in three Carabao Cup rounds so far, as well as netting from the spot in the penalty shootout out victory at Manchester United last time out.
The England youth international is an fitness doubt for Derby’s trip to Stamford Bridge – perhaps he’ll pose a threat from the bench instead?
The LuaLua Rule
<!–
A lot of ‘ifs’ here, but should Derby County get promoted and Mount and Tomori head back to Pride Park on loan, then they would not be able to feature against Chelsea in the Premier League.
The reason? Lomana LuaLua.
Having failed to find the net for Newcastle all season, the Congo winger was sent on a 90-day loan to Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth in February 2004. However, Newcastle failed to include a clause saying LuaLua could not play against them.
Less than a month after his loan move, he volleyed in an 89th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle, whose manager Bobby Robson bemoaned that “one of our players” had scored against his side.
LuaLua celebrated by somersaulting across the pitch before pointing to the name on the back of his shirt and ripping it off.
He did apologise to the Newcastle supporters, but added he was glad to be “somewhere where someone wants me”.
It led to a change in FA and Premier League legislation, meaning on-loan players could not play against their parent clubs in league fixtures.
Don’t ‘ruin’ a country’s national team
At least the Derby loanees are unlikely to face the sort of backlash that greeted South Korea’s Ahn Jung-hwan when he scored the winner against Italy in the last 16 of the 2002 World Cup.
Ahn was on loan at Serie A side Perugia from South Korea’s Busan Daewoo Royals and, with Italy’s World Cup exit sparking outrage back home, was cast as the villain.
Perugia chairman Luciano Gaucci told Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport: “That gentleman will never set foot in Perugia again.” He added that he “had no intention of paying a salary to someone who has ruined Italian soccer”.
Gaucci then bizarrely backtracked and tried to take up the option of signing the forward on a permanent basis, but Ahn rejected, saying the club “attacked my character”.

Greetings from Microsoft Ignite 2018. It’s already been a busy year for Content Services at Microsoft. Organizations large and small have turned to Microsoft for our content management solutions. Today, as we celebrate our customers’ success, we’re also please to share the news of our latest innovations:
File card – Deliver contextual intelligence about files in Office 365, including readability and key prints analysis [Coming Q4 2018]
Central asset library – Register multiple SharePoint libraries as preferred locations to supply digital assets during page authoring [Coming early 2019]
Mobile capture - Integrate file and metadata gathering to SharePoint from remote devices [Coming Q4 2018]
Document templates – Simply add document templates to the New menu in document libraries [Rolling out now]
Predictive indexing – Add indexes to lists and libraries of any size, up to 30 million items [Coming Q4 2018]
Modern document sets – Use the modern user experience to work with document sets in SharePoint [Coming year end 2018]
PowerApps integration with SharePoint libraries – Build apps and forms that use SharePoint libraries as a data source [Coming Q4 2018]
Updates to taxonomy APIs – Develop solutions that create and consume content types and terms from the Managed Metadata Service using REST-based APIs [Coming Q4 2018]
Flow for document management – Use Microsoft Flow to move and copy files in Office 365, and generate shareable links [Coming Q4 2018]
SharePoint Server 2019 – Deploy modern lists and libraries, with attention views, bulk edit, filters panes and more on premises [Coming Q4 2018]
File plans - Import, manage, and classify multiple retention rules using Excel-based formats [Coming Q4 2018]
Label analytics – Explore usage, trends, and content for each applied retention label [Coming Q4 2018]
Metadata-driven labels – Automatically apply retention labels to content with rules based on content types and metadata [Coming Q4 2018]
Immutable labels – Tag documents with an “immutable” mark it as irreversibly unchangeable and undeletable to comply with special regulatory requirements. [Coming Q4 2018]
Let’s take a deeper look at some of these.
 File card
The file card allows you to hover over a file name in Office 365 to explore new content intelligence, such as readability and key points found in the documents. Key points can also be edited directly in SharePoint. [Coming Q4 2018]
Tumblr media
File card with key points
 Central asset library
Images and other digital assets help tell a more dynamic story. SharePoint pages can already consume images and logos form Web search, file upload, and site assets. Now, the new central asset library lets you register one or more document libraries with images to be available anywhere in SharePoint for adding images – such as page headers, galleries, or web parts. [Coming early 2019]
Tumblr media
Central asset library
 Mobile capture
The OneDrive mobile app is an easy way to scan documents and images into SharePoint or OneDrive. From on-the-go workers to traditional office locations, people need to be able to capture images for uses like site inspection, meeting notes, lab activities or event management. But integrating new documents into business processes often requires custom metadata to allow business process to run quickly and with precision – without waiting for someone to retag images inside a browser. Now, mobile capture on OneDrive lets you enter any default metadata when you’re saving files directly to a SharePoint library. [Coming Q4 2018]
Tumblr media
Saving images with metadata during mobile capture
 File plans
Office 365 already provides data governance labels to establish rules for records management and retention. Later this year we’ll be augmenting those with hierarchical file plans, allowing you to manage a range of retention labels with identifiers, departments, categories, statutory references and more. File plans can be exported from Office 365 for easy editing in Excel, and then reimported to update label rules.
Tumblr media
Office 365 file plan
Labels and label analytics
Establishing information rules is just the start of governance. You also need to measure the application and usage of labels to understand how your file plans are effective, and where they may require updates. Label analytics allows you to map and review the usage of retention labels, providing feedback to help continuously adjust and improve governance.
Tumblr media
Label analytics
Microsoft has already had labels to establish retention and records management. Later this year, we’re releasing two new label capabilities:
Immutable record labels, to be used to make content permanently unchangeable and undeletable
Sensitivity labels – which can be applied to content to enforce security behaviors such as encryption, watermarking, data loss protection and remote device access. Sensitivity labels can also be applied by default to a container, such as a SharePoint site, to enforce security standards on all the content in that location.
Tumblr media
Applying sensitivity labels to a SharePoint site
 Customer Stories
We love coming to events like Ignite to hear more about our customers and partners’ success with Microsoft 365 and content services. We’re proud to be part of solutions that have helped City of London, USC, Robertson Group, Speirs & Jeffrey, Shoosmiths, US Federal agencies and many more. Learn how from our case studies published on the Content Services Resource Center. (https://aka.ms/odsp-cscs)

Top 5 Knockout Round games in MLS Cup Playoffs history
October 30, 201812:15PM EDT
It’s nearly time for the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs to lift off with the Knockout Round, a card of one-off ties leading to the Conference Semifinals that have provided several thrilling contests over the last seven years.
As such, we decided to count down the best Knockout Round barnburners from the bunch. Before we dive in, a quick shoutout to Seattle’s wild 3-2 win over the visiting LA Galaxy back in 2015 for just missing the cut. Both of those teams did land on the list for other famous Knockout Round victories.
No. 5: LA Galaxy 2, Vancouver 1, 2012
[embedded content]
When the Galaxy embarked on their journey toward becoming just the third club to stack MLS titles back-to-back by hosting a Vancouver side that had backed into the playoffs, advancement may have seemed like a mere formality.
It became clear it wouldn’t go that way when Darren Mattocks booted the Whitecaps ahead in just the third minute. Meanwhile, the Galaxy couldn’t find a way past Brad Knighton, who coolly denied David Beckham twice.
Midway through the second frame, the momentum swung when Josh Saunders made a big stop on Matt Watson to keep the visitors from pulling away. About a minute later, Mike Magee’s nifty volley had the game tied. A brief moment after that, Landon Donovan was fouled in the area before sending the Galaxy onward from the spot.
No. 4: Seattle 1, Sporting KC 0, 2016
After a miserable regular season (0 goals from 24 outings), Nelson Valdez suddenly turned playoff wizard as the Sounders started the march to their first MLS Cup triumph. Seattle were in form thanks to an 8-2-3 closing kick, but a Sporting KC team they hadn’t beaten in five series meetings made it a tense Knockout Round bout.
Stefan Frei had to turn Paulo Nagamura away twice in the early going, and he got some woodwork love when Graham Zusi rung the post in quick fashion. The Sounders goalkeeper kept the saves coming, and was able to breathe a sigh of relief when the flag caught Matt Besler a hair offside on 53 minutes.
Seattle would eventually win the day when Valdez nudged home a Joevin Jones cross for the lone goal. The forward would go on to score the winner in their Conference Semifinal starter and set up the Jordan Morris goal in Colorado that put them in that happily fateful championship match in Toronto.
No. 3: Atlanta United 0 (1), Columbus 0 (3), 2017
The expansion darlings had the raving multitudes out at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the first playoff game in club history, expecting their brash league newcomers to score goals and venture off on a playoff odyssey. However, rude guests Columbus ended up spoiling the party.
Miguel Almiron nearly put Atlanta up early, only to leave the crowd slapping their foreheads by pinging the crossbar. Five Stripes co-star Josef Martinez followed suit by hitting the post on 72 minutes and a Hector Villalba laser was pushed away by Zack Steffen with mere seconds left in regulation.
The game then shifted, as Columbus caught the woodwork for their second time in the first extra session and saw Michael Parkhurst save Harrison Afful’s header early in the second. Steffen started penalty kicks by stopping Julian Gressel and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, and when Jeff Larentowicz dinged the post in round four, last ditch Crew SC sub Adam Jahn was allowed to win the shootout with his first touch.
No. 2: New York Red Bulls 2, Sporting KC 1, 2014
It was anything but a whodunit when the Red Bulls bumped off defending champs Sporting KC in the Knockout Round. Four days after Bradley Wright-Phillips earned them this home playoff opener with the only two goals in a closing day win at Kansas City, the Big Apple hit man would strike again. And again.
For a good long while, it looked like the Red Bulls might never crack the visitors’ code. Tim Cahill and Wright-Phillips scuffed early chances, and Dax McCarty would later fail to nod into an open net. Worry lines became more pronounced around Red Bull Arena when Benny Feilhaber expertly teed up Dom Dwyer for a well-taken ice-breaker shortly after intermission.
The finally tide turned when Thierry Henry fed Wright-Phillips for the equalizer 13 minutes from time. The Englishman capped the comeback with a last-minute clincher, nodding home when he alone was wise to a strange bloop of a cross from Ambroise Oyongo.
No. 1: Portland 2 (7), Sporting KC 2 (6), 2015
This will forever be known as the double-post penalty miss game, but it was so much more than that. The teams traded blows in an all-time classic that would eventually set Portland on their way to an MLS Cup.
Try as they may, the Timbers – who entered the game scoreless in their last 388 minutes of play against Sporting – were repeatedly unable to grab the lead. Nagamura pitched in with an early line clearance, and Tim Melia squelched another pair of big opportunities. Portland finally got the saw buzzing when Rodney Wallace poked home in the 56th minute, but Kevin Ellis kissed in a Zusi cross three minutes from regulation time to level matters. In the first overtime period, Krisztian Nemeth put the visitors up with a dazzling strike. Unbowed, the Timbers knotted the game through Maxi Urruti in the 117th minute to force penalties.
Jon Kempin, who’d come into the game as an injury replacement for Melia late in regulation, started the shootout by denying Diego Valeri. A round later, Adam Kwarasey returned the favor by stopping Ellis’ try. It was the start of a trend; in all, a save or miss would give Sporting an edge four times, and each time they’d hand it right back with a failed conversion of their own.
After Kempin ate up a weak Alvas Powell kick in round nine, SKC rookie Saad Abdul-Salaam stepped up with their second shot at a winning penalty. His kick had Kwarasey beaten, but pinged one post and then the other before bouncing away harmlessly. Two rounds later, Kwarasey buried his try before stopping Kempin’s to send Providence Park into relieved raptures.

Monaco 1-2 Atletico Madrid: Diego Simeone's side battle back to win
Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat Monaco in their Champions League Group A opener.
Samuel Grandsir poked in an opener for the hosts after defensive mistakes from both Saul and Angel Correa.
Diego Costa converted Antoine Griezmann’s excellent pass to level and Jose Gimenez headed in Koke’s corner to give the visitors the lead.
But Atletico, with boss Diego Simeone in the stands, were almost pegged back late on when Kamil Glik headed wide.
The Argentine was serving the final game of a four-match European touchline ban dating back to last season’s Europa League semi-final tie with Arsenal.
Winger Thomas Lemar, a £62m summer signing from Monaco, got a good reception when he came on in the second half for Atletico.
Atletico – whose Wanda Metropolitano ground hosts this season’s final – are looking to avoid a repeat of last year when they went out in the group stages.
In the other game in Group A, Borussia Dortmund beat Club Brugge 1-0 thanks to Christian Pulisic’s fortunate late winner on his 20th birthday.

TEAM NEWS
Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has said he has no new injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s game against West Ham.
Carl Jenkinson, Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are long-term absentees.
West Ham captain Mark Noble has been unable to train this week because of a back injury and is expected to miss this match.
Striker Andy Carroll, midfielder Manuel Lanzini and defender Winston Reid are all still out.
Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan: ‘I don’t know why people are criticising so much’[4]
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini urges fans not to leave games early[5]
MOTD COMMENTATOR’S NOTES
Jonathan Pearce: No permanent Arsenal manager has ever lost his opening three games. It’s 54 years since the club lost its opening three. Unai Emery has to get a victory in this.
Lucas Torreira must start, surely. An Alexandre Lacazette-Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang strike partnership could wreak havoc with the shaky new Hammers defence.
There are too many fitness and form concerns for me over a number of West Ham’s summer signings. They will come good. But not here.
Arsenal have lost just once in 22 meetings with West Ham and there shouldn’t be a repeat of that shock back in August 2015. [6]
Manuel Pellegrini is facing three defeats in three – which would be the worst managerial start by a Hammers boss since Avram Grant lost his opening four league games of the 2010-11 season.
VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT
Arsenal head coach Unai Emery: “After the first two matches, we have two defeats and we need to win this match against West Ham.
“I think it’s very important to show a better performance than in the two first matches. We are preparing well, I am feeling well when I look at the players in training every day.”
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini on Unai Emery taking over at Arsenal: “You can see what happened at Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson finished. There have been a lot of different players, no titles, a lot of criticism.
“They were so used to winning with that manager, but when you make a change it is not easy. I think that Arsenal are going through the same thing.
“It’s not normal they start the season losing the first two games. But the pressure, at least for me, is always on winning or losing in every game – it is the same every game.”
LAWRO’S PREDICTION
I am almost thinking that for this season – as Unai Emery gets his feet under the table and imposes his style – Arsenal should not put pressure on themselves to finish in the top four.
West Ham seriously worry me. They were hopeless defensively in defeat by both Liverpool and Bournemouth. You can sign as many players as you want, but ultimately if you can’t defend in the Premier League, you are going to be in trouble.
Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
Arsenal have lost just one of their last 22 matches against West Ham in all competitions (W17, D4).
The Hammers have lost 28 Premier League games to Arsenal, more than against any other team.
However, West Ham’s tally of five Premier League away wins at Arsenal is surpassed only by Manchester United (eight) and Liverpool (seven).
This is the first time Arsenal and West Ham have both started the same top-flight season with consecutive losses.
Arsenal
Arsenal could lose their first three league matches of the season for the first time since 1954-55, and for only the fifth time in their history.
The Gunners are unbeaten in their past nine London derbies at home in the Premier League.
Only Manchester City won more points at home than Arsenal in the top flight last season.
Mesut Ozil has scored three goals and contributed two assists in his last four league appearances against West Ham.
West Ham United
The Hammers have conceded 74 Premier League goals since the start of last season, more than any other team.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini has won just one of his 11 matches against Arsenal in all competitions, a 6-3 victory as Manchester City boss in December 2013.
West Ham have lost their first three league games of the season twice already this decade, having done it just five times between 1920 and 2010.
Marko Arnautovic has been involved in eight of West Ham’s last 12 goals, scoring five and providing three assists.

Atletico Madrid fail to get their La Liga title bid off to a winning start

ATLETICO MADRID FAILED to get their La Liga title bid off to a winning start, as Rodrigo earned Valencia a 1-1 draw at the Mestalla Stadium on Monday.
Angel Correa gave Diego Simeone’s visitors a 26th-minute lead, but Rodrigo struck in the second half for the home team and last season’s runners-up Atletico failed to find a winner.
There are high hopes at the Wanda Metropolitano that Atletico can muster a serious title challenge, after keeping their key players in the close season and claiming an impressive extra-time win over city rivals Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup last week.
But they were given a tough test to start the campaign at a strong Valencia outfit who will be playing in the Champions League this season for the first time since 2015 after finishing fourth.
“It’s a shame because we wanted to bring the win home and we didn’t manage it,” the 23-year-old Correa, who also scored in Atletico’s opening league game 12 months ago against Girona, told BeIN Sports Spain.
“The effort we put in for the Super Cup isn’t an excuse for us, we know how to repeat that kind of effort. There is a long way to go before talking about it (the title), we must continue to work.”
Simeone gave a La Liga debut to Thomas Lemar, who joined from Monaco for 72 million euros ($ 84 million) in July, but the French World Cup winner struggled to make an impression and was hauled off in the 63rd minute.
Atletico moved ahead midway through the first period with a wonderfully-crafted goal.
Antoine Griezmann showed great skill to cut inside and slip a defence-splitting reverse pass to Correa, which Argentinian winger collected in his stride before firing low past home goalkeeper Neto.
Saul Niguez wasted an excellent chance to make it two shortly after half-time when he shot wide, and in the 56th minute when Rodrigo lashed home right-footed after controlling Daniel Wass’s looping header on his chest.
The 27-year-old scored 19 goals for Valencia last season to earn a Spain call-up for the World Cup and his club will need him to continue that form after sending Italian striker Simone Zaza on loan to Torino.
Valencia had opportunities to snatch all three points, but the closest they came to a second goal was when former Arsenal centre-back Gabriel’s header hit the post with 23 minutes remaining.
“We proved that we’re at a very high level against a great opponent and even if there is still some way to go, that’s what we’ll need this season,” said Rodrigo.

Alonso hits winner as Chelsea defeat Arsenal in five-goal thriller
Marcos Alonso’s late strike settled a chaotic classic in Chelsea’s favour after Arsenal fought back from two goals down and threatened to earn a point at Stamford Bridge.
Maurizio Sarri’s side built that advantage inside the first 20 minutes after Pedro turned in Alonso’s cross and Alvaro Morata added another seconds after Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang blazed over from close range.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan wasted a similar opportunity before pulling one back with a low shot that Chelsea’s new £71m keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga should have saved before Alex Iwobi put the Gunners on level terms.
Aubameyang and Iwobi missed further chances before half-time before Chelsea controlled the second half, Alonso sweeping in substitute Eden Hazard’s cross nine minutes from time to make it successive wins for Sarri and two defeats for new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
Relive Chelsea v Arsenal
Sarri and Emery cut contrasting figures
This was a heavyweight Premier League clash for the managerial newcomers Maurizio Sarri and Unai Emery – and they were provided with plenty of food for thought after an engrossing 90 minutes.
Emery is perpetual motion in his technical area, pacing it constantly from almost the first minute, a blur of gesticulations and dramatic effect with cajoling and encouragement throughout.
The Spaniard is still trying to put his imprint on this Arsenal team after the end of Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign and he is very obviously a hands-on figure.
It is also clear from the manner in which Arsenal got back into the game – even though they ended defeated – that his new players are fighting for their manager.
Sarri, dressed casually in a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms, was far less animated than Emery but was still keen to get his message across and it is already clear he is determined to repeat the brand of attacking play that made his reputation as he makes his mark at Stamford Bridge.
These two experienced managers will add plenty of character and colour to the Premier League’s A-list cast of managers – and both will have much to keep them occupied.
Defensive chaos cause for concern
This was a chaotic classic of a Premier League game, especially in a first half that brought four goals and some early contenders for misses of the season from Arsenal.
What will have concerned Sarri, even after a win that makes it maximum points from two games, is the ease with which Arsenal were able to cut his defence apart on so many occasions in the first half.
Sarri loves his teams to be on the front foot but Arsenal could easily have scored five, perhaps six, goals in the first 45 minutes – happily for him he has quality in attack at his disposal that enabled Chelsea to come through this test.
As for Emery, his style of a high defensive line and playing out from the back is a work in progress but both Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi are alarmingly short of pace for such an approach and this needs to be addressed.
It all made for gloriously entertaining fare – but with causes for concern for both Sarri and Emery.
What can Sarri and Emery take away?
Sarri can be a satisfied man with a second successive victory, one achieved when he is still easing Hazard back to full throttle via the substitutes’ bench.
He will need to cure those defensive ills but Chelsea have class in other areas, with Jorginho a quality addition and Pedro and Morata chipping in with goals.
Emery looked devastated at the final whistle and, of course, no points from his first two (admittedly very tough) games is hardly a flying start.
And yet there were things to encourage him.
Teenager Matteo Guendouzi looks a real prospect and he will be delighted by his team’s resolve after they went two goals behind to work their way back into the game.
This was never going to be a quick fix and the fixture list has been cruel – and on another day Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang will put those chances away.
Emery will hope to get off the mark at home to West Ham United, who have also started with successive defeats.
Emery’s losing start – the stats
Chelsea have won six of their past seven home league games against Arsenal, the exception being a 0-0 draw last season.
Arsenal scored two goals against Chelsea, as many as on their previous six Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge.
Unai Emery is the first Arsenal manager to lose his first two games in charge since Steve Burtenshaw, who lost his first three in charge as caretaker in March/April 1986.
Marcos Alonso has been directly involved in 20 Premier League goals since his Chelsea debut in September 2016 (14 goals, six assists); seven more than any other defender.
No player has assisted a single team-mate more often in the Premier League since the start of last season than Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta for Alvaro Morata (7, level with Riyad Mahrez for Jamie Vardy with Leicester).
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been directly involved in eight goals in his 13 Premier League games for Arsenal (3 goals, 5 assists), one more than in his last 25 for Manchester United (7).
Eden Hazard registered his 41st assist for Chelsea, level with Cesc Fabregas for the Blues, and behind only Frank Lampard (90), Didier Drogba (55), and Gianfranco Zola (42).

Hibernian to meet Celtic in SWPL Cup final
Hibernian will meet Celtic in a repeat of last year’s SWPL Cup final after both eased through their semi-finals at the Falkirk Stadium.
Holders Hibs cruised to a 3-1 win against league leaders Glasgow City thanks to an Abi Harrison hat-trick.
And three goals in the last 25 minutes gave Celtic a 4-1 win over Forfar Farmington.
The two will meet in the final, again at the Falkirk Stadium, on Sunday 20 May.
Hibs have won the trophy two years in a row and will be big favourites to make it three, having defeated Celtic 3-1 seven days ago.
Glasgow City lead the Scottish Women’s Premier League only on goal difference from the Edinburgh side.
When they meet, more often than not though one side hands out a drubbing to the other, and with Hibs missing captain Joelle Murray in the heart of defence, it looked like it was advantage City.
And 13 minutes in when Christie Murray was tripped just inside of the box by goalkeeper Hannah Reid, it looked like it would be their day.
Reid, however, palmed away Leanne Ross’ penalty to redeem herself, and after that everything went horribly wrong for the champions.
Hibs, who had started slow, suddenly sparked into life. Eight minutes later Harrison drove through the middle, and although her initial shot was blocked, it landed nicely for her to fire past Erin Clachers.
Then Kirsty Smith burst down the left flank and played a brilliant ball across to Harrison, who got her toe to it for number two.
<!–
At the other end nothing would fall for City. A Hibs foot was always there to deny them a clear sight of goal, while Leanne Crichton’s goal-bound header was blocked by Chelsea Cornet.
Hibs could have had more before the break. Harrison shot wide, then minutes later laid the ball off to Rachel McLauchlan, who should have hit the target.
City head coach Scott Booth made changes at half-time, but within seconds of the restart Harrison had her third.
Lizzie Arnot’s cross was perfect for Harrison, and although Clachers got a touch to her header, she could not keep it out.
City pulled one back when Sam Kerr’s shot had too much power on it for goalkeeper Reid, and had Madeline Hill not scuffed her effort when through on goal it could have set up a nervy finish.
Post-match reaction
Hibernian caretaker head coach Grant Scott: “Absolutely delighted. It’s great to be in a cup final again.
“I’m really pleased for Abi. Everyone knows her potential. She had a niggle early in the season and has taken a few weeks to get back to full sharpness.
“The penalty was definitely a turning point for us. It seemed to galvanise the girls and they grew in stature in the game. It definitely worked in our favour.”
Glasgow City head coach Scott Booth: “You would always hope to score from a penalty in a semi-final, but the game still has a long way to go at 0-0. We created some good possibilities in the first half but ultimately I didn’t feel we competed well enough.
“The main turning point for me was the third goal. To lose a goal in that manner is just not good enough defensively. After that we had to chase it.
“We competed better in the second half but it wasn’t good enough.”

The Zlatan effect: LA Galaxy figuring out attack with Ibrahimovic
Jim Young-USA TODAY Sports
April 19, 20187:16PM EDT
CARSON, Calif. — Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored three of the LA Galaxy’s four goals since making his Major League Soccer debut with about 20 minutes to go three weeks ago against LAFC, lifting his new club to a pair of one-goal victories and into second place in the Western Conference after just six games.
That’s three times as many goals as anyone else on the roster has scored, and although the LA attack is clearly more dynamic than during last year’s lost campaign, the goals have come mostly in bunches or not at all.
Is this an issue for the Galaxy, and if so, what’s needed to spur a little more — and a lot better — offense?
“It’s all about are we creating chances or not creating chances, and I think we’re creating chances,” coach Sigi Schmid said this week as LA prepares for Saturday’s StubHub Center meeting with Atlanta United and their supercharged attack. “If we’re not creating chances, I would worry, but as long as we’re creating chances, I’m OK.”
Ola Kamara, who netted 38 goals the past two seasons with Columbus Crew SC, hasn’t tallied since netting the first goal in LA’s 2-1 opening-weekend victory over Portland, and Romain Alessandrini, Jonathan Dos Santos, Sebastian Lletget and Chris Pontius have also hit the net once. The Galaxy have scored multiple goals just twice, and half of the total arrived in the 4-3 comeback victory over LAFC, with Ibrahimovic’s late pair making the difference.
It’s not much of an issue within the team, which has a lot of new faces, was stymied early by a rash of injuries, and continues to build working relationships, a process that’s been altered by the Swedish superstar’s arrival. The Galaxy have played primarily in a 4-2-3-1 formation under Schmid but switched to a 4-4-2 in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Chicago as Ibrahimovic joined Kamara up top while making his first MLS start.
“The formation that we played in the last game, the group that we played together, that was the first time that group played together in that formation,” Schmid said. “It’s certainly in terms of getting the automization of things — getting things to happen automatically — is going to take that little bit of time. … It’s not something that happens overnight, it’s something that has a process and takes five, six, seven games.”
Alessandrini, who is still getting back up to speed after missing three games with a hamstring injury, has limited experience in the new system — Schmid says the 4-4-2 is “something that will probably stay a little bit” — and needs time to adjust.
“Attack-wise, I don’t know how different [the 4-4-2 makes things],” Schmid said. “It’s obviously a little bit different defensively. … We now have to figure out exactly how to use Romain, because I don’t think we used him in the best way possible in the Chicago game. It will come with time.”
Kamara says he’s frustrated by his production. He scored a nice diving header that was waved off by the linesman’s flag in Chicago, a call that LA believes was in error.
“I really wanted that goal, of course,” he said. “It would have been a good feeling, scoring again. … One hundred percent for me, it’s goals, and that’s where all the confidence comes from. I think I could have had a couple of assists, but, of course, as a goalscorer, I want more goals. That’s what I live off of.”
Ibrahimovic and Kamara are just starting to find some chemistry — the Chicago game was the first time they’d been paired together, and they’d had little chance to work together in training before this week — and once that’s in place, good things are expected.
“Zlatan has been a good part of the group,” Schmid said. “He’s adjusted really well that way, and on the field, the guys realize he’s the type of player that you can play the ball into his feet, and generally things will connect from there. When you have a player like that, it makes everyone around you a little bit better, and he draws the attention of the opponent, and that opens up space for others.
“Everybody wants to score more goals, especially a goalscorer, but Ola’s runs have been good. He’s still looking to get in behind. I think with Zlatan in there, he’s going to find himself rewarded a little bit more at times on those runs.”
Alessandrini says everyone needs to adapt.
“Everyone knows [Ibrahimovic] on TV, but on the field, he’s totally different,” the French winger said. “We need to get used to playing with him. I think we have more weeks and more games together, we will be fine.”
Ibrahimovic says he’s happy with LA’s attack, with the chances that are coming, with how “the pieces are falling together,” but there’s still work to be done.
“I need to adjust myself to how the team plays,” he said. “Obviously, I get to know them, they get to know me, and we work it out.”
Maybe the biggest issue facing LA is how best to utilize their attacking strength. Giovani Dos Santos, who has missed the past four and a half games with a hamstring injury, is expected to be available for Atlanta United (Saturday, 10:30 pm ET | ESPN+), but the switch to the 4-4-2 has eliminated his usual spot behind the lone striker. He’ll need a couple of weeks to get back into form and game fitness, but Schmid must decide how to utilize all the midfield talent at his disposal.
Does he stick with a No. 6 and a No. 8 — Perry Kitchen and Jonathan Dos Santos — or does he look to get Giovani Dos Santos, Alessandrini and Lletget on the field together?
“Everything gets factored in [for those decisions],” Schmid said. “We’ve got to see who the players are, who’s available, who we think complements each other. It all goes into it.”
