Update: While I am slowly getting used to hjkl navigation, I have in fact downloaded Helix to see if is nicer to use than Nvim.
Neovim just doesn't have a great "new user experience", the defaults are a bit lackluster so if you want it to be usable you need to configure it a lot. I also dislike the style of configuration that it uses, configs should be data, not code, I shouldn't have to essentially write a plugin that just loads other plugins.
So far I'm definitely finding Helix more user friendly, and I prefer the selection-action commands to vim's action-motion. It's easier to know what's going to happen when you can see the selection that it's going to happen to.
Like say you wanted to delete three lines. In vim you type 3dd, which is a single command with no visual feedback, whereas in Helix you type 3xd, which is two commands: 3x selects three lines, then d deletes the selection.
I downloaded Neovim, just to see what all the fuss is about. 👍
Currently I'm using VSCode and even there you can do a lot of stuff without the mouse, but I'm curious about how useful the multi-modal system is.
I'm not really a touch-typist, and resting my fingers on the home row for hjkl navigation feels pretty unnatural, so I might stick to using arrow keys instead of hjkl, but otherwise use the regular vim key binds.

5 Amazing Advantages of Virtual Reality in Data Visualization
Do you know what the 21st century runs on? Data… Loads and loads of them. From cell phone GPS signals to sensors used in collecting shopper information, census data, social media posts, digital photos and videos, our very existence is surrounded by data. According to Domo, the famous American Software Company, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are generated on the Internet every single day! And as data continue to pile up, the need for a powerful tool to help us digest and make sense of them become extremely important. This is where data visualization comes in. And with virtual reality on the rise, big data visualization is in for a pathbreaking revolution............[Read more]

Residential And Commercial Tree Surgeon Shipley
When Is It Time To Remove A Tree?
Sometimes a tree gets to a point where trimming and pruning it are no longer adequate and it no longer fits in with your garden or it becomes necessary to have it removed before it causes untold damage to your property or injures someone. Some of the main causes for tree removal are
The foliage of the tree has lost its visual appeal due to disease, or bugs destroying its limbs and leaves.
Limbs, branches and leaves have grown too close to your buildings and are now blocking the sunlight from coming into your premises, and causing moisture build up on the walls and roof due to blocking the sun from them.
The tree has been battered by a storm and sustained some structural damage. The tree could now cause damage to your property or injure someone with falling branches or it could completely fall over, causing even more serious damage.
You are wanting to change the landscaped outlook of your garden and the old tree does not fit in with the aesthetics of your new look garden.
The tree’s roots are starting to pose a threat to your property’s foundation or to the underground pipe work.
Felling The Tree Yourself
Sometime people who have a tree that they want removing attempt to remove the tree themselves or they use unqualified contractors. Tree removal is a complex and potentially dangerous job and should only be carried out by tree surgeons because:
If the roots are not removed correctly then the tree can grow again.
Old tree stumps which have not been removed correctly are not just an eyesore they are also potentially dangerous.
Our tree surgeons know how to use the latest equipment to help them climb and access difficult areas.
Using the wrong tools or techniques when dismantling a tree can cause untold damages to your property or even severely injure someone.
Tree Maintenance
Regular pruning helps to improve the growth of a developing tree and it also corrects the shape of mature ones. Every cut that we make to a tree has a lasting effect, which can be good or bad. This is why a professional tree maintenance plan for your trees is a wise investment.
When you have a tree that cannot be saved, its has become infected or diseased, or it simply does not fit in with your plans for your garden then we offer very competitive prices for tree removal. Our staff are fully qualified and equipped to quickly and safely remove trees of any size. From your initial contact right the way through to the final clean-up, you can rely on us to provide you with he highest level of customer service in Yorkshire.

Tree Service Company - What to Look For
For those unsure what it costs to remove a tree, the overall size of the tree is a major factor in the cost of removal. Trees that grows enormous in length and width for instance pine and red oak is going to have a high removal cost. Many companies will charge differently, however, the cost will probably be $500 or somewhat higher. This cost shouldn't exceed $1000 for each tree. Medium sized trees are ones that will grow from 30-60 feet high such as black gum and Crabapple trees. The price of tree cutting will be around $200 and $400. With smaller trees i.e. those growing 30 feet and below, the removal fees are from $120.
There are numerous signs that you can check to determine that the tree trunk is decaying as well. If there's red dust along the bottom of the tree, it might be an indication that your tree is decaying. If your trunk is decaying, you will see bugs and mushrooms growing throughout the bottom of the tree. Insects and fungus will feed on dead and rotting matter and their presence is undoubtedly an indication that the tree has some dead matter. You may also inspect the trunk for any visible signs of decay. Dead tree bark, wounds and discolored areas are all negative signs of a rotting tree. Some could have significant cracks that you can actually see inside the trunk. Hollowed out trunks may be a clear sign that the trunk is bad so this normally requires the tree to get removed fast enough before it may cause any harm to your building. You will also see some weak trees that are connected to the floor by some weakened roots and should be removed soon enough.
If you want to remove trees and you just don't know how much it will cost you, you will need to have a rough estimate to ensure that you are not overcharged. Removal cost for a small tree is normally $8 each foot. Therefore if you want to remove a small tree that is 20 feet high, the estimated tree removal cost is $8 multiplied by 20. Therefore, the tree removal cost will be around $160. If you've got a medium tree whose height is 50 feet high, the cost of removal will probably be $9 multiplied by 50. Therefore, the price of removing this tree will probably be close to $450. If you have a big tree that's 90 feet tall, the estimated cost will be $10 multiplied by 90. This will provide you with a projected tree removal price of $900.
Choosing the right tree removal service is important to make certain you as well as your property are well protected. Therefore, you need to ensure that you make a good choice of the tree removal service. You'll want to go for a respected company to begin this work. To find a reputable company, you could get referrals through friends that has used this kind of service before. You can even check from the internet to what other folks have to say about different tree removal companies. Even though it is very important to think about cost, the main key to consider will be the quality of service first. You will need to ensure that the tree removal service you opt for is fully registered and has taken the appropriate insurance policy. Deciding on a good company will assure that your odds of any damages for the duration of tree removal are reduced.

Actual Estimates on Tree and Stump Removal Cost
A good tree service can work to handle all sorts of different things in a lawn. It can be used to take care of trees and things around them in many ways. Here are a few of the different things that a tree service can do.
A good tree service can work by planting a tree in an area. This can be done by getting the proper sprout or other item into a proper area of a lawn. A tree care service will work to prepare the area by handling such things as the types of mulch and dirt preparation areas for the tree. This is important because of how the tree service will work to serve the best possible types of controls for a tree that is new. The first few days of when a tree is in the ground will truly be the most important times of the tree's life.
Mulching services can also be handled by the service. Mulch can be delivered to a home and in some cases gathered around an area. The mulch can be used around a tree to support the growth and stability. This can work to ensure that a tree that is still growing can look as well as it can be.
The next service involves stump grinding. This can work for when a stump is in an area and needs to be treated properly. Stump grinding can involve a tree stump being removed. It can also involve a tree stump being ground into a certain depth level. This can be used to protect the tree and to ensure that it will be safe for handling different kinds of landscaping projects in an area.
Tree removal is the last of the types of services that can be handled by service provider. A good tree care service will work to handle a dead or decaying tree in an area. This can be done by cutting down the old tree, collecting it and then removing the stump from the area or grinding that stump down.
This may be the most critical type of service that service provider can provide. This comes from how a tree that needs to be taken down may be one that is tough and unable to work properly. The tree may end up falling and hurting property or even a person if it is not removed. A tree care service can help to get this handled.
Be sure to see what a good tree care service can do. This type of service can help to keep it so a person will have an easier time with getting a tree removed or planted in an area. Proper tree care services can also be provided through a good tree service.

The final one – the exhibition
Now that we’re at the end of the project I can look back and realise that for the most part I have really enjoyed this project. I was apprehensive to begin with as I’m not a massive fan of group work, I find it to be stressful having to organise matters with others, but thankfully this wasn’t the case for this project. The group I was assigned to all got on really well, everyone was enthusiastic about the project and everyone was productive and contributed to the overall finished pieces. I felt it was a very successful collaboration between the 8 of us. Many of us had different skills and came from different art and design backgrounds, so that really benefited us when it came to the different aspects of our project. I have attended every group meeting arranged and been punctual with times, with the exception of I was off suffering with an illness that restricted my movements outside of the house. But from the moment I returned I was determined to put a lot of effort in and catch up with anything that I had missed. Whilst off I was still involved with any decisions made as we all kept in touch through a group chat on Facebook Messenger. I feel like I was one of the main contributors to the group and took on as many roles and tasks possible and also helped others within the group whenever I could. From this project we hoped to create an exhibition that was representing of the work and research that we’d been up to over the whole course of the project. We wanted to use mirrors to help us reflect a true reality of the streets of Manchester, this is something that I feel we portrayed quite well and was visually understandable.
Our exhibition wasn’t as successful as I had initially hoped, due to the space that we had been allocated. In theory we had the perfect space that we required, however once arriving to set up the exhibition we soon found out that we co9uldnt move the books on the shelves we had been allocated, this meant that we had to place our models and photographs around the books. Which, in my honest opinion, made our exhibition look a mess. It completely contrasted with the simplistic aesthetic wed imagined. The minimalistic design was chosen so that our photos and models really stood out, but as we couldn’t move any of the books from the shelves it made our display look slightly cluttered. Furthermore, we weren’t allowed to remove the bottom shelf, as we’d originally planned for our large model to sit directly on the floor, instead we had to compromise and it was eventually placed on a table at side of the shelves near to tables and chairs, which in my eyes didn’t really feel like part of the exhibition, my eyes weren’t drawn to it. Despite the display of the exhibition, I feel that the work that we created was to a high standard and when you viewed the display without the books it looked really impressive and was exactly what we had envisioned. It’s a shame that the exhibition space let it down, but unfortunately this was out of our hands. If we were able to go back and re-do the project, I think I would have chosen to work in a smaller group, even though a big group had its benefits like when it came to getting everything done on time, but it was difficult to delegate roles. At times, the less active members of the group were just sat around waiting whilst there wasn’t anything for them to do, as most jobs only really involved 2/3 people at a time. Some members of the group repeatedly went home early, as they felt there was nothing they could do, so it was almost always left to us, the same four people to get things gone in the late afternoon/evening. If we worked in smaller groups handing out roles would’ve been easier as each person could stick to a role and complete it without having to get others to help or pass the role on. It was my decision to briefly spilt the group in two towards the end of the project, as I thought it would be easier to control and work better and assign roles if we spilt into model making and photography groups and this did make things easier as I predicted. I would’ve liked to start the making process a little sooner and also taken the photos sooner as then maybe we would have had more time on the exhibition catalogue and been able to add more pages and/or information to the book. Maybe been able to add more of an interesting front cover, like a hard back, when binding. Also, it would have been nice to get a little more creative with our mirrored boxes and maybe create something more like the card models. However, the geometric shapes that we making with the card would’ve meant going to metal workshops and taken too long to dry for the time that we had.
Overall, I have really enjoyed Unit X, even though at times it has been quite challenging and mentally draining. I think that collaborating with 3Dd students early on in the project really influenced what we created in our project, as we went down quite a 3D route with the things we created for our exhibition. It was something that was very much out of my comfort zone, as previously mentioned, I’m not the biggest fan of group work so this project really tested me, as I like to be in control of every aspect of a project at all times, so it was really refreshing to have to take other people's opinion on board and collaborate and a real learning curve in my development as a designer.

Unit X- Part Two
20th- 30th March
After finishing the previous week not feeling too enthusiastic about how the collaboration with 3DD was going, I tried to have a positive outlook on how the finial week of collaboration was going to go. I felt as though we hadn't made the most of the time we could have spent learning new skills from each other.
The final part of the collaboration was to share a skill with other. This consisted of 2 Interior Design students and 1 3DD student. This was something I thought would be helpful in gaining further skills and what I though the collaboration with another course would be about. However I felt the organisation of this was poor as it didn't give people time to prepare what they were going to teach each other, as the day after being told about this exercise was the date we had to hand it what we had learnt. I felt that the day we were told to do the task was a wasted day as people didn't have the equipment or materials to be able to share their skill, which left it to be rushed the next day. This task was something that I thought was useful as I leant how to press textures and patterns into metal which is something that I believe I can incorporate into future projects. As there were more interior students in the group I felt 3DD gained more from this then myself, this been said I found this task interesting and enjoyed learning new skills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Towards the end of the 3rd week of Unit X we finally got to know what are main brief was going to be. Something that I had been waiting for. PaperTowns was the brief, A place placed on a map that in reality isn't really there. We needed to create a hype for something that didn't exist.
I thought it was going to be a good way to finish the year by working in our own groups to create something we were all proud of, which is something we hadn't done before. We were in the group that we created the Map brief with and then paired up with another group to make one big group. This is something that I was looking toward to as we could put all our creative thoughts together to create something amazing.
However it quickly became apparent that some personalities in the group were stronger that others, this caused difficulties in coming up this an idea to meet the brief as well as incorporating everybody's ideas. After many attempts of trying to come up with solutions to this, it became obvious that we should spilt into two groups to enable everybody’s creative ideas to be exercised.
A new week was the start of a new smaller group and we all came together to share ideas on what we should do. Many ideas were being thrown about, but the one that came coming back was the idea of using the tunnels under Manchester in some sort of way. We finally went to our first tutorial of the project with the idea of creating a safe place under Manchester if anything was to happen on the surface, using the tunnels as our space.
We then had to develop this idea for a pitch on the Thursday of what our idea was and how we were going to exhibit our idea for the final exhibition.Together we came up with the idea of creating a Bank and from becoming a member of this bank you would gain access to these subterranean suites, in which you would be safe from any attack on the surface. Splitting up jobs we then all had our own things to work on for the pitch. I created hype for this ‘Bank’ (Elite Banking) using curated twitter post.
I believe our pitch was strong and gave a good sense of what our final exhibition was going to look like and what we needed to create from this. We presented a model of what we wanted our exhibition to look like as well as a presentation of the locations of our entrances what how we were going to create visuals for theses, as well as some information you may receive once joining the bank.

Unit X - Final Summary.
Our first real introduction to Unit X took place in a lecture theatre. In fact, it was the same lecture theatre that I visited on an open day to sit through a student finance talk, so sitting there being given the brief for the final project of first-year felt slightly overwhelming.
On top of this, being in such a large room with so many students from 3D design that I didn’t know, was quite daunting. Especially knowing that we would be working together in some form. However, once each of the lecturers involved gave us a brief background on themselves and their careers/work style, the idea suddenly seemed less nerve-wracking. I was able to see what a variation of different careers and experiences one individual in the industry can have. I soon warmed to the idea of meeting new people and discovering how students on a course in a similar field could work so differently to us.
Having often heard the words “group work” throughout my education, usually referring to working in a small group for simply a week to produce a presentation, I can definitely say that no other group work has been quite like Unit X. From being taught how to create slip vases out of clay by a 3DD student, to producing an exhibition piece open to the public, Unit X provided the opportunity to develop and extend my skill set in many ways.
When it came to the final part of the brief, there was some slight initial confusion with group numbers. This resulted in my group of four combining with another group of four, making us the largest team on our course. Initially, working with a large group of friends seemed like a great idea, but towards the end of the process we all realised that maybe such a large group wasn’t the most logical idea. With having such a varied group, some people preferred to work in the evenings whereas others felt more productive with an early start. As well as this, a few people had to work shifts elsewhere, or others would oversleep, resulting in an eight-person meet up often turning into a four to five person meet up. I do believe that this could have been avoided if we were a smaller group and able to work around times that suited everyone.
Upon reflection, I would definitely say that this held us back sometimes. Although frustrating, I knew that waiting around for others and having the attitude of ‘if they aren’t going to do the work, why should I?’ wasn’t going to get us very far. There was no reason to jeopardise the whole group’s work for the sake of being stubborn.
In response to the theme of 'Paper Towns', our group concept was that of creating a series of Phantom Settlements in the form of installations. The aim of these installations would be to take the user from one atmosphere to another.
We would recreate the environment of a more isolated space (such as a forest or cliff-side), and situate the sensory installation in a contrasting ambience (such as a train station or shopping centre) around Manchester. To achieve the sensory experience, specific aromas, sounds, projections, humidity and textures would fill the pods.
Video footage would sometimes be projected in the surrounding area, attracting people to the space surrounding the installation. However, the actual pod-style structure would be mirrored from the outside. This would mean that unless you were specifically out looking for them, in a crowded space the pods would easily go unnoticed. Thus creating an element of secrecy, leaving people from a distance to question whether to structure was real or not.
Taking inspiration from the activity of Geocaching, we would produce a map in which the coordinates of each installation are shown. This would give people the opportunity to take part in an almost treasure hunt style exploration of Manchester. Hidden around the city, these immersive spaces would create the illusion of a space that only exists on a certain map.
For the most part, Unit X was a great way to come together and work alongside others. Seeing how others on the same course can work so differently to one another, encouraged me to think outside of the box. It made me realise that having your own specific style and branding is great, but branching out and experimenting with different techniques can be the making of a project. Being in the same friendship group as Liam and Grace, I have often been in awe of their visual styles. Grace’s collage pieces are always so striking, but I would never have thought to use this style of visual to show my ideas. Comparing skills and work styles has made me realise that my visuals don’t always have to be so literal. Design isn’t all about straight lines and measurements, and it has been extremely useful during Unit X to have abstract and conceptual stages used throughout the process.
Exhibiting alongside the rest of our course mates meant that we were able to see a variation in how different people interpreted the same brief. This, as well as having the opportunity to see 3DD students work was an eye-opening and inspirational element of the exhibition. It was clear that our exhibition didn’t have as much detail as others. Yet, we were all happy with the clean cut, minimalist approach, as anything too busy would have looked cramped in such a constrained space. I think maybe we focused too much on visuals and research, rather than the actual exhibition design.
Referring back to a Fundamentals Lecture from guest speakers Hawkins\Brown, it is clear that collaboration and negotiation plays a huge role in the design industry. The Manchester company is made up of a team including interior designers, architects, urban designers and researchers. Company leader Morag Morison, was keen to let us know that the team are encouraged to work beyond the role of an interior designer, often collaborating with other creators such as artists and graphic designers.
Now one of the most successful design companies and ‘AJ100 Practice Of The Year 2016’ winners, they wouldn’t have gotten this far without collaboration. This is why I feel that Unit X has helped prepare me for future employment opportunities.

Tree Pruning And Trimming Services For The Best Results
Whether you have had trees cut down as part of a landscaping project, because of storm damage or due to a disease, removing the leftover stump is not an easy task. Often, the tree service that cut down your tree does not offer stump removal. Make sure that during your contract negotiations that you ask if their service includes the stump removal to avoid any misunderstandings.
It is possible to rent a stump grinder from an equipment rental company and take care of the stump yourself. But if you are not experienced with this type of job, it is not a good idea. The equipment can be very dangerous if not used properly. This is a job that you should take off your to-do list and hand over to an expert.
Stumps can be unsightly and can make an otherwise well-maintained yard look unkempt. They can also be difficult to mow around and create a hazard. Take the time to ask the appropriate questions when you receive your estimate to make sure that your needs will be met and that you understand what services are covered. To achieve the best results, hire a professional stump removal and tree service that is insured and well-recommended.

Cleaning Up Your Backyard
Although a homeowner could trim large trees it is best left to a professional tree trimming service because they have the knowledge, experience, and equipment. If you are planning on hiring a professional to trim your trees there are several factors that figure into the cost. Some of these factors include where you are located, size of the tree(s), amount of trimming that is required, accessibility to the tree(s), how much time has elapsed since the last trimming, health of the tree, travel expenses, risks involved, type of equipment, how long to complete the job, and more. Here are some examples of tree trimming costs.
• Trees like olive, mulberry, dogwood that are twenty-five to thirty feet high would cost approximately seventy-five to four hundred fifty dollars but this does not include the clearance cost. • Trees like crabapple, black gum, black adler that are thirty to sixty fee high would cost approximately one hundred seventy five to eight hundred eighty dollars, also excluding obstacle clearance charges • Trees like red oak, American ash, pine trees, locust, sugar maple can grow more than sixty feet tall and will involve more expenditures. They can cost approximately three hundred to more than one thousand dollars.
It is important that you do tree trimming on a regular basis as it will help to keep them healthy and strong, makes them disease free, and increases their longevity. Also, broken or dead branches could fall over power lines or roofs and cause a lot of damage.
