Wolf's chest tightens suddenly, it's as though there's a vice-like grip that smashes and squeezes the air from his lungs. Pausing mid-sentence, his throat constricts as a violent cough forces its way up. The first cough erupts from out of him rather unexpectedly; a harsh, guttural sound that practically ricochets across the metal walls of the bustling Sargasso lounge. O'Donnell grips the edge of the bar counter, the claws of one hand piercing the over-waxed wood surface as he leans forward in a futile attempt to brace himself. Each subsequent cough racks his sturdy body. Sharp, and relentless coughing into his other tightly, curled fist leaves him gasping for breath as his broad shoulders heave with the physical effort.

Both ears pin down against his skull, his only eye squeezes shut with tears forming at both corners as the coughing fits continues unabated. His chest burns, every inhalation is a struggle against the spasming that attacks the poor lupine. The sound that rips at his throat is raw, each cough tearing through his battered lungs feels like a dagger scraping at every inch of his airway. His throat feels as though it's ripped apart and every swallow breath he can steal for his precious lungs is a painful reminder of every single cigarette that he's ever shaved years off of his life with. With another swallow and short inhale through his nostrils, he wipes at his mouth with the very hand that he's been coughing into, body trembling from the exertion, a gasping swallow is all he can manage before he's thrown into another violent coughing fit.

Each cough rips through the irritated tissue of his airways with an intensity that leaves no room for composure or dignity anymore. The hand he once used to steady himself against the counter now finds his chest, clutching desperately as fingers dig into his shirt in a sad attempt to physically quell the rebellion stirring within his lungs. Wolf feels the sting of each cough deep within his ribs, it's a relentless assault that leaves him practically helpless. That's when the world around Wolf begins to narrow, the edges of his already-limited vision begins to turn black as his focus--once consumed entirely by the need to breathe, to overcome the fit that has taken hold of him--now fuzzy, lighter than normal.

Wolf's vision begins to blur, the world around him narrowing into a black tunnel as dark spots begin to dance and speckle, flickering and twinkling in front of him. The continuous lack of oxygen begins to take its toll on Wolf; his typical strength now being stolen from him with each agonizing cough that, frankly, he hardly notices anymore.

Lightheaded, the Star Wolf pilot can feel a buzzing on the surface of his skin as his connection to the world around him begins to fade. Lips curled with each cough, his gums have transformed from a perfect pink, fleshy color to a purplish hue that is quickly turning blue and well on the way to turning gray. Knees buckle, O'Donnell stumbles forward and surprisingly manages to catch himself on the bar counter, though just barely. The room around him seems to disappear from his very eye and suddenly, he's struck with a spinning sensation. Losing track of the room, what little he can see of the simple shapes and blobs around him are twisted by the small amount of light that pierces the blackness in his limited field of vision.

Coughs are pathetic and shallow. Shoulders offering a weak, small jerk with every feeble gasp -- it's all a battle that he is rapidly losing.

With a final attempt to rescue himself, he offers a sharp inhale, which is effectively cut short by another violent cough and that's when Wolf's body finally gives out from under him. Wolf O'Donnell collapses to the cold, sticky floor beneath the pilot; the impact is certainly hard, though worryingly, it's not enough to jar the Lord of Sargasso from the haze of his oxygen-deprived brain.

The last thing Wolf thinks he sees behind the warping of his sight are the faces of Fox McCloud, and in the close distance, Leon who quickly closes the gap between the two Star Wolf men.

O'Donnell has finally fallen silent in his unconsciousness.
