20240105: the History of LEGO Castle day 005. 375-2 / 6075-2 Castle 383-2 / 6083-1 Knight's Tournament 677-1 / 6077-1 Knight's Procession For the overarching compilations of each theme, I think I will demonstrate what all the sets look like when combined and how I often use my LEGO to build stories. This is a quick example, and maybe something I will refine as a story and post elsewhere :) Knights from across the kingdom gathered at this, the first official tournament. The Yellow Castle and their crown guards provided security in case any of the patrons decided to behave in an unruly manner but overall, the tournament was a wonderful way of allowing the crown princess and her younger brother to see the skill of the realms' knights. None of the squires were shocked when the well-trained and disciplined crown knight unseated the lazy and entitled maltese knight but it was something of a shock when the green and yellow chevron knight's helmet was lost to a well-place lance strike from the blue and yellow trefoils knight, as the two were considered quite evenly matched.

Meanwhile, a small group of knights hauled supplies from the countryside to support the knights and the tournament. Two of the knights were being punished for some drunken debauchery last month and so had to bring the supply cart by hand while their fellow knights guarded them and kept them on task. The tournament as a whole was considered a raging success and the crown princess learned quite a bit about the knights who would one day serve her when the current ruler, her mother the Queen, stepped down from the throne.

You sat in bed, disoriented and not quite awake yet. The disheveled hair and swollen face showed that last night was not easy, actually it was a sleepless night. Still slightly sleepy, you reached for the phone, unaware of what awaits you there. When you saw that you got a message from Sebastian, you felt your heart beating fast.

“My parents are coming home at the end of this month? That means I only have two more weeks of peace before I'm subjected to their constant questions and scrutiny again." You thought as you placed your phone on the nightstand.

You sighed as you looked out the slightly opened window. It was gray outside the window, rain was pouring down, and large drops ran down the window pane. All this scenery and today's information put you in a gloomy mood.

Suddenly your peace was disturbed by a loud knock on the door. Before you could say anything, Chan burst into the room. He sat next to you and waved the phone in your face.

“The exam results are here. Quickly check if you passed." He smiled at you as he opened the app.

His enthusiasm was in stark contrast to your melancholy atmosphere. You reluctantly grabbed your phone from the nightstand and opened the college app. Your heart began to beat faster, as if it was ready to explode.

You searched for the right item, clenching your hands on the phone. You swiped to see the results and... You saw a big sign Congratulations on passing your exam! Relief and joy washed over you at that moment, and you burst into excitement.

Your whole face lit up and you threw yourself on the boy's neck, nearly knocking him over.

"Yes! I knew you'd make it! Well done!" Chan burst out happily, hugging you just as tight.

All the weight has been lifted from your shoulders. You'd passed all your exams, which meant that now there were only empty days between you and the end of your schooling. You could finally rest, not having to sit at night with your nose in books and stress whether you will manage to pass everything.

Still with a big smile on your face, you pulled away from the boy, finally looking at him carefully. He was sitting on the bed, one leg on the floor and the other bent at the knee, which gave him ease and nonchalance. A faint scent of freshness floats around him, indicating a recent bath.

On his torso you saw a loose, faded black t-shirt that clings to his body in a way that allows you to see the slight outlines of muscles.

His wavy brown hair seemed to wave around his head. Slightly rubbed on the sides, they arranged in a free, natural way, almost as if they were attracting the rays of the morning sun.

You noticed the faint shadows under his eyes, which probably meant he couldn't sleep either, but they only added to his charm and made him look even more handsome.

You found yourself unable to take your eyes off him, staring straight into his mesmerizing chocolate brown eyes. You couldn't resist the twinkle in his eye. You were fascinated by it… he fascinated you.

Chan, seeing that you couldn't take your eyes off him, snorted softly and in one fluid motion pushed you to lie down on the bed. Just as quickly as he laid you down, his hands landed on either side of your head just as quickly. The boy towered over you and you liked it very much, but you didn't take his eyes off his face for a moment.

Your eyes met in a passionate look that made your heart beat like crazy. Chan leaned in to kiss you and the world seemed to slow down to capture that one magical moment.

That's when you heard derisive whistles. You both looked towards the open door where Seungmin and Changbin were standing teasing you. It made your face blush so much that it was burning from the heat.

"Sorry, were we interrupting?" Changbin jokes, but it was immediately met with Chan's furious gaze.

Both boys immediately fell silent and Seungmin started pushing Bin to get out of this place as soon as possible.

Knight's Tournament was designed by Daniel August Krentz and was the second of three from LEGOLAND's first Castle theme. The original (383-2) was released in the United Kingdom in 1979 while the United States version was released in 1981 (6083-1).

This is very simple, small build consists of a pavilion for the royalty to watch the two knights on their two brick-built horses participate in a joust. While using the same seven basic colors of black, blue, green, light gray, red, white, and yellow, the Knight's Tournament still has a lot of fun details. The pavilion has a yellow throne against a blue background with a red fence and black supports for a white and red striped roof, all built on a thin green baseplate. Two red flags with either stickers or print with gold-bordering on a red background with a centered triangular shield of dark red, blue, and peach. Both brick-built horses have colorful barding, with the black horse sporting a blue and white checkered pattern and the white horse presenting black and red stripes.

The six minifigures in a Knight's Tournament are the first printed minifigures in LEGOLAND's Castle theme. Minifigures consist of two guards with the tri-color triangular shield pattern on their torso (found only in this set and a Castle Minifigure set 0016-1 from 1979 / 1982); a knight with a black torso, red arms, and a red and yellow quarter checkered pattern on a triangular shield (found only in this set, plus three Castle Minifigure sets 0016-1, 6002-1 from 1983, and 15-1 from 1984), a knight with a blue torso, white arms, and a red and dark red quarter checkered pattern on a triangular shield (found only in this set and a Castle Minifigure set 15-1 from 1984); the tournament prince with a red torso, red arms, and a gold border around the tri-color triangular shield (found ONLY in this set); and the tournament princess with a white torso, white arms, and a gold two string pearl necklace (found in 16 sets between 1979 and 2003).

The prince and princess mentioned in this set are the first examples of gendering in the Castle theme, but even so, the princess wears pants and has bright red hair with a pretty wild look for back then while the prince looks like he's wearing a bib. Additionally, the back of the box build has the most androgynous young human building the Knight's Tournament as can be imagined, which is exactly what LEGO marketing should be.

The "back of the box" builds for Knight's Tournament have a lot of really neat, very different options for different builds with such a small number of parts. Back of the box builds include a beverage stand, a hospital, a prince-bearing litter, a small bridge, a meeting at a well, and a small guard wall. For all that the parts for this are very basic and the builds very simple, these back of the box builds really do an amazing job of showing a minifigure story.

As a lover of (the original) Homestuck, Mob Psycho 100, and Undertale, I've been reading ORV thanks to your recommendation post. I'm only 2% of the way through it (page 171 of 6083), but I can already see why you love it so much! And the part about feeling like a frog in boiling water is soooo true already. I can't imagine them cooking me like that for another couple thousands of pages, so I'm really excited. I yell about it to my IRL friends. I yell about it to everyone. ORV supremacy!
