Look, all I'm going to say is we get this shot:

And where a guy unexpectedly gets affected by lightning while his two kids are there?

Bathena really is such a beautiful relationship, a real partnership. It's wonderful to watch every time they're on screen.

Eddie: "I already did. Both of 'em."

Buck: "Right."

Oh this portion of the dialogue isn't layered. Like at all.

Buck makes himself at home on Eddie's couch.

Eddie offers a beer and Buck wants more than one.

Eddie grabs two beers.

Buck falls asleep immediately.

Eddie only opens one beer and cheers the closed beer before taking a sip (which the camera then shows us Buck sleeping from Eddie's perspective).

Buck has his arm slung over the back of the empty spot on the couch.

Buck literally fell asleep the minute he was in Eddie's house, on Eddie's couch. "I'm not really a guest in Eddie's house."

"Guess all that company wore you out?" -> Buck wasn't comfortable with anyone else visiting since he knew Maddie had sent them & he wasn't able to rest -> they had his "old roommate" show up with baked goods and then Josh with puzzles for Buck to do with him -> they literally showed us a shot of Buck unable to sleep on Margaret's couch earlier in the episode

...and I'm not supposed to start my canon Buddie countdown?

Josh showing up while Buck is talking to Connor? And Josh is the one to bring puzzles for him and Buck to work out?

911, if this were anymore on the nose, I'd need to go to the ER to fix mine.

Okay, I don't know how Eddie is keeping from grabbing Buck and pulling him into a tight hug. If I was there, I'd be like an octopus. My heart hurts for Buck.

So stepping out of the Buddie lens for a second, this scene felt very much like two partners to me, in the same way that Maddie and Chim feel like partners. Like this was a scene that we would have gotten for Bobby and Athena or Hen and Karen. And the thing is, we do have Bobby heavily relying on Athena (we are even shown Bobby's reaction to Wendell's protestation about their engagement) this episode and we also saw Maddie talking to Chim who figured out Maddie's plan and trying to reassure her that Buck will be okay.

We also get yet another Maddie and Eddie parallel. Maddie mentions to Buck about his dying when she suspects not all is well with him. Eddie mentions it too, also knowing all is not well with Buck. The difference is Buck opened up to Eddie. It's not like Maddie didn't have her own trauma that Buck could have related to (2x13), but the writers purposely chose for Buck to go to Eddie for this moment.

Despite his old roommate Connor showing up, whose baby Buck just fathered.

Despite the purposeful contrasts they set up with Connor and Eddie: Connor came to Buck's, bringing something, Buck gets him a beer but doesn't intend to join in, Buck doesn't talk about himself but instead asks after Connor and the baby; Buck goes to Eddie's, doesn't bring anything nor does Eddie have anything for him, Eddie offers Buck a beer which Buck accepts the offer but falls asleep before he can drink it, Eddie who had intended to join Buck drinks both, Buck opens up to Eddie.

This is all out there for the GA to see. (whether they see it or not is another thing) It makes me wonder just what this Buddie roadmap looks like and just how close we are. That was a very emotionally intimate scene that had Buck been a woman or Eddie a woman, it would have given off an even more overt vibe of something.

I think we're a lot closer than we realize.

So Hen gave a fondue set to Maddie and Chimney, and to Buck...

She and Karen have one, and then there's one left over (which I'm surprised was not given to Bobby and Athena)

But none for Eddie?

I am loving the Buddie we are getting this episode so far and I haven't even seen Eddie yet:

Hen: "Any word on how Operation Buck Up Buck is going?"

Chim: "Let me guess, Operation Buck Up Buttercup has been blown."

And this was Maddie's operation. Maddie who has been paralleled to Eddie numerous times. The Chim and Hen connections.

Immediately my mind goes to:

Especially since Buck only pulled out one beer to give to Connor.

Oh no, Buck is scared. My poor chaotic firefighter son, I just want to protect you. I know the Universe has been screaming pretty loudly (and violently if two episodes ago is anything to by) but you just need to adopt Christopher and marry my other repressed firefighter son and all will be okay. I promise.

"Eventually, everyone finds their equilibrium. Even if it is in another country."

So not only do the doc's words about water come into play but we also get Abby vibes a bit.

And:

Literally Abby and Eddie in one visual symbol. And Buck walks away which goes very well with the not getting his own couch theme so far. But Buck doesn't leave the park; instead he has his back to the city and the water/fountain and is focused on the current point he's fixated on: the lightning strike.

Translation: He's got some stuff to figure out before anything further. But this definitely links Eddie and Abby even more (without Ali or Taylor in the mix at all) for Buck.

"It was only for 3 minutes." - somehow I think this is relevant in some way. To what yet, I'm not sure. I know the number 3 was a big thing back in season 5 and that season was Eddie's season so Idk...
