it’s interesting how often dany follows up a reference to drogo with “who was my sun-and-stars”, as if she’s constantly reassuring herself of her love for him. like she’s reminding herself over and over and over again of what he meant to her.

& that’s not to say that dany is some confused little girl who doesn’t understand her own emotions. sexual trauma is a lot more complex than “she thinks she loves him, but she’s just traumatized”, and I don’t want to dismiss dany’s feelings towards drogo. it’s just fascinating (and more than a little upsetting) how she continues to reaffirm the romanticized version of their relationship to herself even after his death.

He looked down at her pitilessly. “Three lives were snatched from a god. Three lives must be repaid. The gods are not mocked.” His voice was silk and steel.

“I never mocked.” She thought for a moment. “The name… can I name anyone? And you’ll kill him?”

Jaqen H’ghar inclined his head. “A man has said.”

“Anyone?” she repeated. “A man, a woman, a little baby, or Lord Tywin, or the High Septon, or your father?”

“A man’s sire is long dead, but did he live, and did you know his name, he would die at your command.”

“Swear it,” Arya said. “Swear it by the gods.”

“By all the gods of sea and air, and even him of fire, I swear it.”

He placed a hand in the mouth of the weirwood.

“By the seven new gods and the old gods beyond count, I swear it.”

He has sworn. “Even if I named the king…”

“Speak the name, and death will come. On the morrow, at the turn of the moon, a year from this day, it will come. A man does not fly like a bird, but one foot moves and then another and one day a man is there, and a king dies.”

He knelt beside her, so they were face-to-face, “A girl whispers if she fears to speak aloud. Whisper it now. Is it Joffrey?”

Arya put her lips to his ear. “It’s Jaqen H’ghar.”

Even in the burning barn, with walls of flame towering all around and him in chains, he had not seemed so distraught as he did now.

“A girl… she makes a jest.”

Catelyn as the Mother of the Seven

I think it's interesting that the character who paints the most...redeemable? flattering? picture of cersei in their povs is probably catelyn. I'm not saying cat doesn't hate her, she absolutely does and for good reason, but she also sees cersei as a sort of mirror to herself and her motherhood. when catelyn goes to the sept in the (spoilers for acok i guess) chapter renly dies, she takes a moment to think about how even though she hates cersei for what she did, she can't say she wouldn't have done the same in her place, for her children. she sees cersei in the image of the mother and wonders if she prays to her too, which is more humanising than pretty much anything her brothers have to say about her in their povs. and this coming from the woman who said "give me cersei lannister and you'd see how gentle a woman can be" btw. idk I just think it's interesting

meanwhile in her povs cersei is like "catelyn stark was a MOUSE"

Like the Ironborn? Your lame girly prince you were told to listen to finally has like- a good plan but immediately upon successfully doing this plan everything goes to shit because this kid is just certifiably unhinged and kills his hostages.

Your average Winterfell servant? You remember that one bitchy Stark ward? The one who was supposedly your Kings ✨Best Friend✨? Yeah, he showed up in the middle of the night with fifty men from his shitty hometown and trashed the placed. He’s now surprised that everyone is mad at him.

Maester Luwin? You’ve known Theon since he was nine. You practically helped raise him; and sure he was always a few marbles short of a jar but you gotta ask yourself; what the fuck happened here??? Because it’s been a few months tops and he WAS NOT this bad when you last saw him!

Ramsay? Well you’ve just faked your death and got captured by a six year old. Your favorite freak is dead so that’s a bummer. Suddenly the fucking ironborn show up- which is crazy because this place is landlocked- and they take you to the great hall. That’s when you meet the leader of this whole thing.
