Rings of Power Episode 3 Liveblog

Very interested to see which things they expect to be relevant in the "Previously On". Looks like a lot of Harfoots and Halbrand's backstory. And the Elf racism against the Men of the "Southlands" (Which is just English for "Harad" except, they're not IN Harad, they're the greater Lake Nurn area in what will eventually become Mordor.

I paid a lot more attention to the soundtrack this time and it really is great!

Oh no Arondir has been captured by Orcs!

Shit they have a lot of prisoners

So there IS a character named Adar. Fuck.

So it's episode three and Arondir, the first and only Black elf, is in chains subject to forced labor. HOW WE FEELING FOLKS?

What are they digging for?

There's something weird that bugs me about the Numenorean chest armor. Like it doesn't quite fit right

So the relationship between Elves and Numenor is at least shaped like what is to be expected in Elendil's time.

Yeah the Numenoreans are racist as fuck, as expected. Oddly, they don't look any phenotypically different from Halbrand to me. Maybe there just wasn't a way to make that look nonproblematic on screen I guess.

I personally think this show strikes a decent balance between the Harfoots genuinely caring for everyone, and having to make sacrifices for the good of the tribe. Like, they're obviously honestly trying.

See, I can totally see this kind of punishment in the precarious life of the Harfoots. They're not being kicked out as such, but the community is going to spend fewer resources on making sure they can keep up.

So let's meet this Adar guy. Plot sense says this isn't Sauron yet, just another lieutenant. Hopefully he's at least interesting as a character and not bland horrorevil.

Tiger was brimming with energy, her eyes almost electric as she let them burn into the doorman she whispered the password to. There were fewer things Tiger loved more than a good party and she knew Adare would deliver: he always did with this sort of thing. Her dress was short, a daring fuschia number, but her skirt flipped as she walked, giving her enough room to jump the bonfire should she choose to. She scanned the room as she walked, giving everyone a pleasant smile that crackled behind her eyes in the firelight, before seeing a familiar face.

Stepping up to the bar, Tiger put her hand on the small of Zinnia’s back and got the bartender’s attention in a split second. “Two uisce beatha and don’t be shy.” Her charming smile never left her face, even as her gaze turned to the younger fey and became the tiniest bit more predatory. “I should tell Adare to hurry up dinner if you’re going to be standing here looking like that all night.” She busied herself deftly making a rabbit out of a bar napkin before letting it hop delicately up Zinnia’s arm and nuzzle beneath her ear. “I have so many better ideas for the evening, darling.”
