Why AdBlue Solutions Are Essential for Diesel Vehicles
AdBlue is a fluid used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. These emissions are a significant contributor to air pollution, and regulations in the UK require vehicles to meet stringent environmental standards. Proper AdBlue management ensures your car remains compliant while improving its efficiency.
If your vehicle runs low on AdBlue, it could lead to reduced performance or even prevent the engine from starting. This is why timely and accurate AdBlue refills are essential. In Rayleigh, vehicle owners can rely on professional services for AdBlue solutions to keep their systems functioning optimally.

Expert Advice on VWâs AdBlue Warning Light & How to Avoid Costly Repairs

The diesel-powered Volkswagen cars come equipped with many interesting features and the Adblue warning light is an important one located on the dashboard of the vehicle. The light has aroused curiosity in many drivers and it is meant to ensure compliance with emissions regulations in your Volkswagen.
This means that illumination of the AdBlue warning light indicates undivided attention required by the system as prolonged illumination can lead to serious troubles. In this article, we will discuss about the AdBlue warning light in detail.
What Exactly Is the AdBlue
Diesel-powered vehicles like VW are known to emit nitrogen oxide gases as a byproduct generated due to the combustion process and to reduce its emissions the AdBlue which is a urea-based fluid is injected into the exhaust system that helps in turning the toxic Nitrogen oxide emissions into non-toxic nitrogen and water vapor.
Now, if you come across an illuminating AdBlue warning light on the dashboard of your car then it means that the fluid level is low or there is a problem with the system. At times, Volkswagen drivers tend to forget that their car requires regular refills of AdBlue fluid just like the engine oil & other crucial fluids in their vehicle.
If you fail to take immediate steps in addressing the issue then it can lead to serious consequences like complete engine shutdown and inflated repair bills. As the system plays a critical role in managing the emission of harmful pollutants from your car it is vital that you take the illumination of the warning light seriously.
When The Warning Light Illuminates
Generally, the illumination of the AdBlue warning light is caused by very low levels of fluid which fails to control the emission of nitrogen oxide from your Volkswagen. The illumination of the warning light indicates that you need to refill the fluid and you might get to see the warning light near about 1,000 miles.
Now, most experts recommend immediately filling in the fluid because if the amount reaches zero then it is going to create serious starting issues in your car. That is why you must keep an eye on the fluid levels and refill your AdBlue so that you donât have to deal with bigger problems and inflated repair bills.
Besides that, when the AdBlue isnât functioning efficiently in your Volkswagen then there is a real risk of your car failing an emissions test which can lead to penalties and impounding of your vehicle.
Continuous Illumination of The Warning Light
At times, Volkswagen drivers report continuous illumination of the AdBlue warning light even after refilling with new fluid. There are several factors that can cause consistent illumination of the warning light starting with the sensors that can go bad to the injection system which might stop working abruptly.
Furthermore, it is observed that some drivers opt for poor-quality AdBlue for their Volkswagen which can prove costly for the car in the long run. The poor quality AdBlue gets easily contaminated with dust, dirt, and debris and fails to carry out its function efficiently & this might lead to its continuous illumination.
In addition to this, the AdBlue tank is also an important piece of equipment that might require a recalibration after you have refilled it. This is where you must get in touch with a certified mechanic as soon as possible because only they can be able to reset the tank and scan the system for any additional issues to put a complete stop to the problem.
Regular Maintenance Is the Key
One of the best ways to prevent any type of AdBlue issues in your Volkswagen is by resorting to regular maintenance & service of your car. Most of the time it is observed that drivers tend to neglect certain maintenance aspects of their cars and the AdBlue features prominently on the top of the list.
You must always stick to the maintenance schedule of your Volkswagen as per the ownerâs manual of your vehicle and donât skip any parts that are due for maintenance.
Finally
The above-discussed factors are some of the most important details that you must know about that will help you in dealing successfully with AdBlue warning light illumination. Get in touch with a Volkswagen expert quickly if you cannot figure out ways to tackle the problems.

Update HaynesPro 1st Quarter 2020 CarSet

New/changed topics
ADAS
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology is one of the the fastest-growing areas in modern automotive safety system development.
Active safety systems play a major role in reducing traffic fatalities and the financial fallout from vehicular accidents. ADAS systems include long- and medium-range radar and vision systems. Developing an ADAS system requires sophisticated yet cost-effective radio frequency technology which can be embedded in the vehicle to detect and classify exterior objects. A state-of-the-art radar system can differentiate between a vehicle and a pedestrian, identify the location of any potential hazard, and compute the vehicleâs corrective path.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) aim to reduce road accidents and their associated casualties by helping drivers avoid collisions. ADAS systems may react faster than the vehicleâs driver, are constantly vigilant, and have already been adopted and deployed in various models ranging from premium to economy.
ADAS systems constantly monitor the vehicleâs surroundings, alert the driver to hazardous road conditions, and take corrective action such as slowing the vehicle, stopping it or steering it away from danger. ADAS systems use inputs from multiple sensors, including cameras and radars. The fusion of these inputs is processed and the information is sent to the driver and other parts of the system. The same sensor technologies can be used both in the current ADAS systems and in the upcoming fully autonomous driving systems (level 4 and 5).
The technician needs a manual that describes the preparatory steps before he/she can start the actual calibration using the diagnostics tool. The manual is based on the Vehicle Manufacturersâ (OEM) recommendations, but limits itself to the mechanical operations. The technician still needs to use a diagnostic tool.
We have identified the following Repair manuals; their availability will be based on the equipment fitted to the models.
(ADAS) 360° system camera: calibration
(ADAS) 360° system front camera: calibration
(ADAS) 360° system rear camera: calibration

Used Volkswagen Sharan review
Image 1 of 15 Image 1 of 15 16 Oct, 2017 1:30pm Richard Dredge A full used buyerâs guide on the Volkswagen Sharan covering the Sharan Mk2 (2010-date) Volkswagen should know a thing or two about MPVs. After all, it built the first one, the Type 2 â which it introduced as long ago as 1949. Incredibly, the Type 2 stayed in production all the way until 2013, by which point VW had launched a more mainstream people carrier, the Sharan. This had been developed with Ford and launched back in 1996. An all-new Sharan followed in 2010, but was now unrelated to its Ford Galaxy rival. Seven years after its introduction, the Sharan still has what it takes thanks to its excellent refinement, car-like driving experience and typically solid VW interior. Trouble is, reliability can be a little patchy, so hereâs what to look for. Models covered â˘Â Volkswagen Sharan Mk2 (2010-date) - Strong efficiency and space still set Mk2 people carrier apart. Volkswagen Sharan Mk2 Image 3 of 15 Image 3 of 15 History The first Sharan Mk2s arrived in UK showrooms in November 2010. Buyers could pick from S, SE, SEL and Executive trim levels, while there was a choice of either 1.4 TSI petrol or 2.0 TDI diesel engines, with the latter coming in 138bhp or 168bhp forms. For those in a hurry there was a 197bhp 2.0 TSI petrol option, but as with the 1.4 TSI, sales of these were low and this edition was dropped within a couple of years; youâre unlikely to find one for sale. In October 2015 a refreshed Sharan was revealed, but changes were minimal. All engines were now Euro 6-compliant and more efficient than before, while all cars got additional standard equipment. Which one should I buy? Even the least powerful engine, the 2.0 TDI 115, offers enough muscle for relaxed cruising, while manual and automatic boxes are superb to use. The Sharan S gets a DAB radio, three-zone climate control, powered windows front and rear, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors and tyre pressure monitoring. Move up to the SE for 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, Bluetooth, parking sensors front and rear plus automatic lights and wipers. Image 2 of 15 Image 2 of 15 The driverâs seat also has electric adjustment. SEL trim increases the alloy wheel size to 17 inches and adds privacy glass, a panoramic sunroof, Alcantara and leather trim, front seat heating and an upgraded hi-fi. Opting for Executive brings leather trim and six seats, each with armrests. Volkswagen Sharan Mk2 reviews Volkswagen Sharan in-depth reviewVolkswagen Sharan facelift reviewVolkswagen Sharan review Alternatives to the Volkswagen Sharan Mk2 The closest rival is SEATâs Alhambra â the same car, but with different badges. As a result you get the same engines (albeit with no 2.0 TSI option) and transmissions, but more for your money. The Ford Galaxy is the UKâs top-selling MPV, so there are lots on sale, and this full-size people carrier is terrific value as well as roomy, well equipped and comfortable. Image 5 of 15 Image 5 of 15 If space isnât a priority and youâd prefer something more fun to drive, take a closer look at the Ford S-MAX. Buyers focusing more on carrying capacity should consider the Kia Sedona and Chrysler Grand Voyager; both are now defunct, and strong value. What to look for: Seat space Third row of seats is too cramped for adults, but there is a rare six-seater Executive option which increases the amount of space. Tech limits Parking sensors are standard only on SE models and above. Thereâs also a parking camera option, but not if a DAB radio is fitted. Adblue costs Sharans with the 2.0 TDI engine have an AdBlue tank that has to be topped up; it can use a litre every 500 miles, which soon adds up. Light issues The automatic lights can come on even if itâs not that dark. Using the correct diagnostic equipment, dealers can recalibrate. Image 7 of 15 Image 7 of 15 Interior Itâs pure VW inside, so build quality is excellent, as is the clarity of the layout. But thereâs little in the way of flair. This is one of the biggest MPVs going, so practicality and cabin space are superb; the boot stows 300 litres with all of the seats up and a massive 2,297 litres with rows two and three folded. Running costs Sharan owners can choose fixed or variable servicing, the former at 10,000 miles or annually. The latter allows up to two years or 20,000 miles between checks. Services alternate between minor and major, and prices vary up to the carâs third birthday; then theyâre set at ÂŁ164 and ÂŁ329. Both the TSI and TDI engines are fitted with a cambelt which should be changed every five years or 80,000 miles; expect to pay ÂŁ434 for this on a petrol engine, or ÂŁ399 on a diesel. Brake fluid needs renewing every two years (ÂŁ64) and the air-con should be serviced, too (ÂŁ79). Image 8 of 15 Image 8 of 15 Recalls Itâs impressive that the Sharan has been recalled only once in the seven years since its launch; this affected just 38 models (and included some Touaregs). The gas generator canisters for the side airbags could fail through damage in an impact and lead to the canisters exploding. The recall affected cars built from 23-28 January 2015, and was issued in April 2016. Diesel versions of the Sharan made from 2011 to 2015 with AdBlue systems were involved in the Volkswagen emissions scandal. Driver Power owner satisfaction This generation of Sharan has never appeared in our Driver Power surveys because itâs not a big seller. However, weâve not heard of any major issues outside the emissions recall affecting the MPV. People carriers have fallen out of favour, as buyers have shifted to crossovers. But donât be too keen to follow the crowd if youâve got a large family to transport, because nothing can match the usability of a full-size MPV. The problem is that many car makers gave up on this segment a while ago, recognising that tastes have changed. As a result your choices are limited, but weâd say the Sharan is one of the best options with its sliding doors, efficient engines and roomy cabin. The SEAT Alhambra and Ford Galaxy can be bought for less, though, so haggle hard to make sure you get your Sharan at the right price.

Everything You Need to Know about the VW Diesel-Emissions Scandal
â
General Motors and Toyota had their massive scandals. Now itâs Volkswagenâs turn. The company, which owns 70 percent of the U.S. passenger-car diesel market, is in major trouble for cheating on diesel-emissions tests. After years of promoting âClean Dieselâ as an alternative to hybrid and electric vehiclesâthe company even marched on Washington with a squadron of Audi TDI modelsâVolkswagen is stewing in its own toxic vapors. Hereâs our handy guide to whatâs happening.
â
What happened?
â
Volkswagen installed emissions software on more than a half-million diesel cars in the U.S.âand roughly 10.5 million more worldwideâthat allows them to sense the unique parameters of an emissions drive cycle set by the Environmental Protection Agency. According to the EPA and the California Air Resources Board, who were tipped off by researchers in 2014, these so-called âdefeat devicesâ detect steering, throttle, and other inputs used in the test to switch between two distinct operating modes.
â
In the test mode, the cars are fully compliant with all federal emissions levels. But when driving normally, the computer switches to a separate modeâsignificantly changing the fuel pressure, injection timing, exhaust-gas recirculation, and, in models with AdBlue, the amount of urea fluid sprayed into the exhaust. While this mode likely delivers higher mileage and power, it also permits heavier nitrogen-oxide emissions (NOx)âa smog-forming pollutant linked to lung cancerâup to 40 times higher than the federal limit. That doesnât mean every TDI is pumping 40 times as much NOx as it should. Some cars may emit just a few times over the limit, depending on driving style and load.
â
Which cars are affected? Will my car pass state inspection?
â
The following Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche diesel models have been cited by the EPA for emissions violations. There is no recall, and the cars pass all state inspections, at least for now. Remember, VW has admitted to violating federal emissions laws, and as such, itâs neither a state nor a safety issue. However, if Volkswagen does issue a recall, some states (particularly California and some that follow Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standards) may prevent owners from renewing their registration if they donât complete the fix.
â

â
2010â2015 Volkswagen Golf 2.0L TDI

â
What diesels canât I buy?
â
Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche dealers canât sell any new diesels. Additional certified pre-owned diesels are also under stop-sale orders (except for 2015 models with the 2.0-liter engine). The following cars cover models and model years that go beyond those cited by the EPA, which has not ordered VW to halt sales. This list of banned diesels comes directly from VW corporate, although more models could be added. Other 2016 diesel models scheduled to debut, such as the 2016 Passat TDI, will not be offered anymore. Volkswagen has since committed to electric cars, and itâs possible the company will not sell a TDI diesel in the U.S. ever again.

Whatâs Volkswagen doing for customers?
â
For 2.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI models: â -U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer approved the final $14.7 billion settlement on October 25, 2016, after which Volkswagen will start mailing notifications to all current affected owners and lessees of 2.0-liter cars informing them of the $10 billion buyback program. Judge Breyer had approved the preliminary settlement for the same amount on July 26, 2016. TDI owners who purchased their cars before September 17, 2015, can sell their cars back to Volkswagen for between $12,500 and $44,000, depending on model, age, trim, and region. TDI lessees will receive a cash value between $2600 and $4900. Owners and lessees who sold their cars or quit their leases before June 28, 2016, are also eligible. The buyback process started in November 2016. Official details and a VIN lookup are here. Exact payouts for all affected models can be found here.
â
Through October 18, 2016, 340,000 owners and lessees have sent in registration forms indicating they want the company to buy back their cars under the government-negotiated compensation agreement. Thatâs nearly three-quarters of all 475,000 Volkswagen and Audi models with 2.0-liter diesel engines currently registered on U.S. roads.
â
Owners who do not sell their cars back to Volkswagen will receive between $5100 and $10,000 to compensate for diminished resale value, plus a free emissions fix (see full details here). All owners and lessees of 2.0-liter TDI models will have up to May 2018 to decide their options. The eligibility dates correspond to the day immediately before the EPA first announced the violations and the day the EPA announced its preliminary settlement with the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
â
For 3.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI and Porsche diesel models: â -As of December 21, 2016, Volkswagen reached a second settlement with the roughly 78,000 owners and lessees of 3.0-liter diesel models. In late January 2017, Volkswagen announced a $1.2 billion program that differs substantially from the $10 billion program for 2.0-liter diesel models. Currently, only owners of 2009â2012 Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg models with the Generation 1 engine are eligible for buybacks between $24,755 to $57,157. This is because Volkswagen cannot repair them to be emissions-compliant unlike the Generation 2 engines in 2013â2016 models, which can be fixed under a formal recall to be announced later this year. For those Generation 2 models, Volkswagen will offer cash compensation ranging from $7039 to $16,114; if the recall isnât made âtimely available,â the automaker will buy them back. Generation 2 lessees can receive between $5677 and $12,492 for terminating their leases early. If lessees decide to keep their cars and perform the fix, they each receive a flat $2000. In all cases with Generation 2 cars, owners and lessees can opt to receive half of the cash payments upfront, and the other half once the vehicle is repaired.
â
Generation 1 lessees of 2012 vehicles can receive between $5001 and $6615 for terminating their leases early. Generation 1 owners who do not sell their cars back to Volkswagen can receive $7755 to $13,880. For complete details, see the courtâs handy executive summary.
â
These prices have been set using NADA Used Car Guide Clean Retail values as of November 2015 and adjusted for options, mileage, and the region the vehicle was registered in as of that month. The 2016 diesel models will be repurchased at 12.9 percent above prices for equivalent 2015 models. Owners and lessees will also be reimbursed for state and local taxes. The registration deadline is March 31, 2019. Owners and lessees will get the same payment (adjusted for mileage) regardless of when they register.
â
Expired incentive programs:
â
As part of its Customer Goodwill package, Volkswagen offered $1000 cash to every owner of a 2.0-liter TDI named in the EPAâs first violation notice:Â a $500 prepaid Visa card to spend on anything and another $500 cash card valid only at Volkswagen dealerships (to use toward another car, service, or lots of VW hats). They also could get free 24-hour roadside assistance for the next three years. The deadline to register for that program ended April 30. The same offer was extended to owners of 3.0-liter diesel models, who had until July 31. Audi, Porsche, and VW TDI owners who took delivery after November 8 were not eligible (full rules here). Current owners of any VW model were also able to get a $2000 cash rebate toward a new car, although this incentive may continue to vary or expire as time progresses. Dealers also have âdiscretionaryâ cash they can use to sweeten deals (and theyâre getting guaranteed kickbacks for some models). Basically, if Volkswagen is on your shopping list, nowâs the time to haggle like a pro.
â
When will my car be fixed?
â
For 2.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI models:
â
As of January 6, 2017, Volkswagen announced a complete fix for 2015 TDI models with the third-generation engine. This will involve installing a second NOx sensor and a new or replacement diesel-oxidation catalyst. About 70,000 cars are affected. It is unclear, at this point, if this fix is final or just an interim repair. There are three generations of the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder, and all will require different fixes (from simple software updates to complete, and potentially performance-crippling, hardware retrofits).
â
By the end of 2017, we should know whether VW can start fixing cars with the first- and second-generation engines. Emissions modifications, if approved by the EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB), will be staggered in stages. For older, 2009â2014 TDI versions of the Golf, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Beetle, and Audi A3 models, VW has until January 27, 2017 to submit its proposal. The 2012â2014 Passat TDI is due by March 3, 2017.
â
For 3.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI and Porsche diesel models:
â
There are two versions of the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 that require different modifications. While the Generation 1 engines in the 2009â2012 Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg cannot be made fully compliant with EPA regulations, VW will attempt to make them partially compliant. The rest of the Generation 2 engines will be under a formal recall to make complete repairs, which most likely will be a software update. On those models, Audi said on November 23, 2015, that it would update the software and âresubmitâ its emissions applications after the EPA found undocumented âauxiliary emission control devicesâ that were allowing excessive levels of NOx.
â
Donât all automakers tailor their cars to ace the EPA test cycle? Why single out VW?
â
Automakers optimize powertrains for each second of the EPAâs dynamometer tests (Federal Test Procedure 75, the one VWâs computers detect, runs for 1370 seconds). They have to, because theyâre required to self-certify every model on sale. The EPA verifies roughly 15 percent of those tests each year. In rare cases, automakers grossly overstate fuel economy (as Ford and Kia did) and can take advantage of loopholes in the certification process.
â
Yet these standardized tests, as flawed as they may be in comparison to real-world driving, are critical. Performed correctly, theyâre at least an accurate method to assess legal compliance and provide a fair comparison for consumers. Right now, thereâs no indication that automakers program their cars to run in a wildly different fashion on the road, even as the EPA and the German government attempt to prove otherwise. Volkswagen explicitly did, and thatâs why itâs getting hammered.
â
What are selective catalytic reduction and urea injection?
â
Diesel fuel is carbon rich and close in composition to home heating oil. As such, itâs inherently dirty and sooty when burned. While heavy-duty diesel pickups, vans, trucks, and other commercial vehicles follow looser environmental standards, light-duty vehicles have it toughâand nowhere is it tougher to certify a diesel car or truck than in the U.S. In order to trap particulates and curb nitrogen oxide in practically all new diesel engines, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and urea injection must be used.
â
A three-way catalytic converter in gasoline vehicles treats exhaust gas by both oxidizing (adding oxygen to convert carbon monoxide and other hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water) and reducing (removing oxygen to convert nitrogen oxide to nitrogen and water). But diesel engines burn so lean that they require separate oxidation and reduction catalysts. After diesel exhaust passes through the oxidation catalyst and a particulate filter, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF, branded by VW as AdBlue) is injected into the stream before entering the reduction catalyst. DEF is a precise mixture of one-third urea and two-thirds deionized water and must be refilled (typically at manufacturer-recommended oil-change intervals) from a separate tank.
â
If this sounds complex and expensive, thatâs because it is. And very likely, thatâs why VW chose not to install SCR and urea injection on most of its TDI models.
â
Whatâs going to happen to Volkswagen?
â
On January 11, 2017, the U.S. Department of Justice announced $4.3 billion in criminal and civil penalties and arrested six VW executives for their alleged connection with the scandal. A âcorporate compliance monitorâ will be watching VW for three years under the terms of its probation. On April 21, 2017, VW was officially sentenced in a Michigan federal court for these violations.
â
On January 4, 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice first sued Volkswagen on behalf of the EPA. Volkswagen will now pay $14.7 billion to settle with three federal agencies suing the automaker for its excessive diesel emissions, the highest ever paid by a company for violations under the Clean Air Act. The Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Department of Justice announced the partial settlement on June 28, 2016. Aside from the $10 billion buyback program, another $2.7 billion will fund future state-level projects that reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions under the EPAâs Diesel Emissions Reduction Act, which are federal grants marked to replace old diesel engines and for retrofit kits for alternative-fuel powertrains and other similar vehicle hardware.
â
Volkswagen must buy back 85 percent of all cars by June 2019, or else it must pay even more to fund such projects. The automaker also must spend $2 billion over the next 10 years to invest in green energy and electric cars, including paying for new public charging stations and public-education programs.
â
Under the latest settlement with 3.0-liter diesels, Volkswagen will also be required to pay an additional $225 million toward projects that reduce NOx emissions. California will receive $41 million of that, and CARB wrote into the settlement some very specific requirements for the sale of electric vehicles.
â
A Canadian settlement, which keeps to terms that are comparable to the U.S. settlement finalized in October, will cover about 105,000 vehicles there and potentially cost the automaker the equivalent of U.S. $1.6 billion. As in the United States, Canadian owners will be eligible to sell their vehicle back at an agreed-upon price or opt to fix their vehicle and receive a payment. And under a tentative consumer settlement in Canada, Volkswagen and Audi Canada will pay out the equivalent of U.S. $11.2 million.
â
Additional civil penalties and further state-level fines have not been determined but could add billions more. Volkswagen had originally set aside more than $7 billion to cover recall-related costs.
â
Since news of the first violation broke on September 18, 2015, more than a quarter of the companyâs market cap has been wiped out with its nosediving stock price through June 28, 2016, and the company has abandoned its goal of becoming the worldâs largest automaker by 2018. Volkswagen is not even concerned with its U.S. sales numbers until this problem is resolved, according to chairman Herbert Diess. The company has posted consecutive U.S. monthly sales losses since November.
â
CEO Matthias MĂźllerâwho said the company didnât lie but faces a âtechnical problemââhas now ordered a complete reorganization that will see 30 battery-electric vehicles introduced across its 12 divisions by 2025. It inevitably will lead to firings, model cuts across its 340 variants, and other corporate changes. So far, though, even seemingly frivolous divisions like Bugatti arenât getting axed. Former CEO Martin Winterkorn, who resigned in September, reportedly received a memo regarding the diesel problem in May 2014. He has not confirmed whether he actually read it.
â
All right, Iâd like some more free money. How can I sue?
â
There are already a couple hundred lawsuits alleging economic harm against VWâs now infamous âClean Dieselâ marketing campaign and the half-million cars under EPA violation. None have yet been consolidated before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. For the time being, Hagens-Berman, a huge firm that squeezed $1.1 billion from Toyota and intends to sue General Motors for $10 billion, has a class-action lawsuit ready and waiting.
â
What are TDI owners actually doing?
â
As Greenpeace and other environmental groups lambaste VW, the obligatory news articles profiling angry TDI drivers have popped up. Granted, there are some people genuinely upset with VW for misleading them about their carâs emissions levels. But as we see it, the majority of TDI buyers are knowledgeable enthusiasts in love with sky-high fuel economy, torque, durability, and low running costs. Some really frugal types convert their TDIs to run on refined vegetable oil or biodiesel. These people are die-hards.
â
If any fix Volkswagen proposes ends up hampering performanceâbe it increased fuel consumption or a loss of powerâmany TDI owners may very well ignore a recall. Itâs a tricky legal situation, as neither the EPA nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration can force individual owners to update their cars. Several bills in Congress have proposed banning registration renewals for car owners who donât complete recalls, but theyâre a long way from becoming law. For now, most TDI owners are continuing to putter about, despite a considerable drop in resale values. With more time, weâll have a fuller picture.

Richard Harrison, Managing Director, SEAT UK, commented:Â âThe Ateca started the SUV charge from SEAT and it has been transformative, not only increasing sales but also introducing new people to the brand that would previously have not chosen aSEAT. As the customer trend towards SUVs continues, weâve refreshed and added more to Ateca, itâs now, pound-for-pound, one of the best value vehicles on the market. This is all backed up by high-quality materials and technology.â
The SEAT Ateca gets a range of updated petrol (TSI) or diesel (TDI) powertrains, each designed to deliver the highest levels of performance and driveability while improving efficiency.
The frugal three-cyclinder 1.0 TSI unit produces 81kW/110PS of power, and is linked to a manual transmission. The engine uses a Miller-cycle combustion process and variable geometry turbocharger to take efficiency to the next level.
With a power output of 110kW/150PS, the larger capacity four-cylinder 1.5 TSI is available with both manual and DSG dual-clutch transmissions, and achieves reduced fuel consumption and greater efficiency by integrating Active Cylinder Management technology, which adapts the engine to work with only two cylinders in certain driving conditions.
The most powerful petrol option is a 140kW/190PS 2.0 TSI unit, linked to a DSG dual-clutch transmission and 4Drive all-wheel drive system to offer a dynamic on-road and off-road driving experience. The 2.0 TSI unit is also available exclusively in the CUPRA Ateca with a 300PS power output.
Diesel remains part of the Ateca powertrain line-up, with 2.0 TDI engines improving driving performance while reducing emissions versus the outgoing 1.6 TDI unit.
The line-up is available as a 115PS output with six-speed manual, as well as a 150PS output available as a manual or DSG dual-clutch transmission. All TDI units introduce a twin dosing Selective Catalytic Reductor (SCR) system that includes dual AdBlue injection to significantly reduce NOx emissions compared to previous generation diesel engines. The result is a range of diesel engines that meet the strict requirement of Euro6d emissions standards.

New 9.2-inchâ infotainment system with capacitive touchscreen enhances connectivity capability
Performance and dynamism are delivered by the 300PS petrol engine, 4Drive all-wheel drive technology and Adaptive Chassis Control: 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds
Four driver modes enabled from the steering-wheel mounted âCUPRAâ button
Milton Keynes, 22 June 2020: The new CUPRA Ateca has been enhanced and upgraded to continue to be the ultimate dynamic performance compact SUV.
The CUPRA Ateca was the first vehicle to be launched as a standalone CUPRA in 2018, delivering the key principals of design, performance and technology, which has since been joined up by the CUPRA Leon and the cross coupe SUV, CUPRA Formentor, the first CUPRA-only vehicle introduced earlier this year.
âThe CUPRA Ateca marked the brandâs entry into a new segment, becoming a great success along the way, selling over 10,000 units in 2019, and allowing CUPRA to grow its position in the Ateca family â representing 15% of the mix,â said CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffiths. âThe high-performance SUV was the key driver in CUPRA achieving a 72% growth year on year.â
A range of new additions and improvements have been made to enhance its appeal without compromise. It gives customers the option to get behind the wheel of a vehicle that offers the practicality of an SUV with the driveability and handling of a traditional high-performance car.
The new CUPRA Ateca comes with a suite of standard equipment including Alcantara Sport Seats, 19â-inch CUPRA alloy wheels, Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) suspension and an enhanced steering system to improve feel.
The beating heart is a 2.0-litre TSI 300PS petrol engine linked to the quick-shifting seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission which, aided by the four-wheel drive â4Driveâ system, propels CUPRA Ateca from standstill to 62mph (100km/h) in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 153mph (247km/h).
CUPRA also stands for advanced technology and safety features. With a digital cabin â featuring 10-inch digital driver binnacle and 9.2-inch central touchscreen â occupants can access their digital lives simply and easily. This includes wireless smartphone charging in the front, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology, and SEAT Connect technology, meaning staying in touch with the car wherever you are, as well as preparing it for your next journey.
Powertrain and chassis Every CUPRA will be judged on the engine that propels it, and the refreshed Ateca maintains its credentials with the incredibly-powerful 2.0 litre TSI engine. The turbocharged, four-cylinder unit produces 300PS (221kW) of power and 400Nm of torque, enough to push the SUV from standstill to 62mph (100km/h) in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 153mph (247km/h).
Linked to a quick-shifting seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission, the new CUPRA Ateca is no slouch in the standing sprint either and can hit 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
âWith the CUPRA Ateca we made a clear statement in the high-performance SUV segment and with the new version we underline and strengthen this position,â said Axel Andorff, Executive Vice-President for Research and Development at SEAT.
The 4Drive all-wheel drive system is the latest generation of the electro-hydraulic multi-disc traction system and allows the vehicle to deliver power to the wheels with the most traction and on to the road in a controlled manner. The system constantly monitors and analyses road conditions and driver inputs to maximise traction, making the sub-five second acceleration time possible.
The system is integrated into the rear axle and sits at the end of the drive shaft, in front of the rear differential, improving weight distribution and reducing inertia, meaning the new CUPRA Ateca is more responsive and controlled in all driving conditions.
The CUPRA Atecaâs driveability is based on its relationship between the powertrain and chassis that gives it the distinctive dynamic performance. The SUVâs chassis has been tuned to offer the most precise, involved and responsive ride possible from the platform.
The steering calibration and throttle response have been updated to give the vehicle maximum agility and enhance feedback for drivers putting the CUPRAâs credentials to the test.
The CUPRA Ateca reacts to changes in driver inputs â including steering angle, acceleration or braking â as well as road conditions via the Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) system, adjusts suspension and damper settings within milliseconds to perfect the driver experience, making the most of the driving conditions.
Four different driver profiles allow the SUV to be tuned to the specific nature of the journey or the person behind the steering wheel: âNormalâ, âSportâ, âCUPRAâ, âIndividualâ to change the vehicleâs character. The breadth of ability, matched by few others, allows CUPRA Ateca to cover everything from daily driver to high-performance SUV.
The CUPRA Atecaâs dimensions also ensure the vehicleâs agility, providing the basis for an assured drive as well as spacious interior. The SUV is longer at 4,386mm (+10mm compared to the previous generation, due to the new bumpers design) and shorter 1,599mm (-2mm) giving it a more aggressive visual. Wheelbase (2,630mm) and width (1,841mm) remain from the previous generation model. The front and rear track has been increased to 1,575mm and 1,549mm respectively.
The inclusion of optional ventilated 18-inch Brembo brakes mean CUPRA Ateca stops as quickly as it starts and gives immense confidence in the corners.
Exterior Design The CUPRA has always offered a striking exterior aesthetic, one that instantly marks it as a performance vehicle and the new SUV updates the design language to amplify its bold character.
The new CUPRA Atecaâs exterior design has been updated to give it a keener, increasingly agile and capable look. The front includes a new bumper design as well as new FULL LED headlights. The upper honeycomb grille has the CUPRA logo at its very centre with a dark chrome finish to the frame. The lower grille features a dark aluminium diffuser flanked by LED foglamps.
âThe CUPRA Atecaâs subtle design elements feed together to create the vehicleâs exclusive personality and heighten itâs impact as the definitive high-performance SUV in its segment.â said Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, Director of Design at SEAT.
The side mouldings, roof rails and door mirrors are all finished in a glossy dark aluminium. The mirrors house the puddle lamps that shine the CUPRA logo on the floor when entering / exiting the vehicle.

The new urea injection system Continental: rehabilitation of diesel?
Diesel engines, despite their efficiency differ not very clean exhaust: these are the features of combustion. Engines with compression ignition are highlighted elevated levels of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and soot particles in the exhaust gases.Particulates on modern motors is delaying the particulate filter and oxides of nitrogen are struggling with the recovery of the catalyst with a coating of copper zeolite in combination with the injection of AdBlue. Such tandem can be very effective, and proved diesel sedan Mercedes-Benz E 220 d, who took seventh place in the latest eco-rating of ADAC. In the test, Mercedes has thrown 80 mg/km NOx, which is twice overlaps the future requirements that will come into effect on 1 September 2017.

Just a four-cylinder Mercedes-Benz E 220 d was the first car with the new urea injection system of Continental concern. The system includes a concentration sensor for urea, which was not before. It is integrated in a single unit with pump and control unit that is installed in the tank for the AdBlue solution. The control unit is connected with the engine ECU and controls both the operation of the injector, and the pressure developed by the pump. All this allows particularly precise dosage of the feed solution into the exhaust gases. And as for the effective operation of the system, the catalyst is placed close to the motor, the nozzle is now equipped with a liquid cooling circuit.

Highly efficient and more compact than ever, the all-new Mokka is the perfect combination of fun and modernity â ideal for urban trips and long motorway drives.
The design of the Mokka features stunning proportions and captivating precision with bold looks characterised by short overhangs and a wide, well-planted stance. The newcomer also stands out as the first model that features the future brand face and next generation fully digital cockpit: the Vauxhall Vizor and Pure Panel, respectively.
The horizontally stretched instrument panel integrates two widescreen displays; the one in front of the driver measuring up to 12 inches. The intuitive system is designed to keep the driverâs focus on the road and Vauxhallâs designers have retained separate controls for essential functions, avoiding hazardous exploration into sub-menus.
Despite a slightly longer wheelbase (+2.0 mm), the Mokka is 12.5 cm shorter than the previous model, while offering its five passengers a similar loading space of up to 350 litres in its luggage compartment. Its total length of only 4.15 metres makes it super-easy to manoeuvre and park in urban and suburban areas.
Stephen Norman, Group Managing Director, Vauxhall Motors, said: âThe all-new Vauxhall Mokka is the start of the long awaited new direction for Vauxhall. New Corsa punted the ball up, new Mokka decisively converts the try. With its bold design that becomes part of the signature look for all future models, the all-new Mokka features everything that will define the Brand from now on. With a choice of a full electric powertrain or a line-up of highly efficient petrol and Diesel engines, the all-new Mokka is the new and exciting future for Vauxhall.â
With the SRi trim, Vauxhall is, for the first time, offering a sportier version of the Mokka. SRi models come standard with a red signature daylight opening, a high-gloss black Vizor chrome exterior trim elements and badges, specific front seat fabric and red instrument panel trim. Also standard are 18-inch alloy wheels with black and red accents, a two-tone roof and black headliner.
Innovative technologies for the all-new Mokka The Mokka stays true to Vauxhallâs brand-defining tradition of making innovative technologies from higher vehicle classes available to a wide range of buyers. These include Advanced Driver Assist Systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Active Lane Positioning Assistant. The lighting system also features state-of-the-art technologies with the adaptive and glare-free IntelliLux LED matrix light featuring 14 elements, unique in the category. All Mokka models feature standard LED lamps at the front and rear, an electric parking brake as well as traffic sign recognition. A 180-degree panoramic rear-view camera is also available.
The new Mokka is based on a new version of the companyâs highly efficient multi-energy CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform. This lightweight and efficient system offers maximum flexibility in vehicle development and allows the use of a purely battery-electric drive as well as the latest petrol or diesel engines.
Vauxhallâs engineering team has focused on weight reduction, saving up to 120kg versus the previous generation model, while simultaneously enhancing body stiffness â gaining up to 30 per cent torsional stiffness in the case of the electric version with its low-sitting integrated battery structure. The benefits are obvious: the all-new Mokka consumes substantially less energy, while being much more responsive, agile and fun to drive.
New engines: Ideal balance between efficiency and performance The lively yet economical petrol and diesel engines offer power outputs ranging from 100hp to 130hp. Low fuel consumption and superior performance are characteristic of all powertrain options:
The fun starts with the entry-level 100hp 1.2 Turbo combined with a six-speed manual gearbox (preliminary fuel consumption WLTP 6mpg to 51.4mpg and 124g/km to 128g/km CO2).
Higher performance is supplied by the 130hp 1.2 Turbo. Despite the strong power output, fuel consumption of the all-aluminium engine remains competitive with either of the six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions (preliminary fuel consumption WLTP 4mpg to 51.4mpg and 123g/km to 126g/km CO2).
Wide torque plateau for petrol engines: Top driveability High efficiency and lively performance are characteristic of the new petrol engines, which feature a low friction design to optimise efficiency. The turbocharger also reacts immediately, with strong torque development at low rpm. Maximum torque of the 100hp 1.2Â is 205Nm; the top 130hp unit develops 230Nm. With the majority of maximum torque available in a wide band, both engines are notable for their flexibility. At least 95 per cent of maximum torque is available between 1,500 and 3,750rpm â in combination with the low vehicle weight and optimised gear ratios, this enables very good driveability.
The driving performance matches the high efficiency of the engines. The Mokka 130hp 1.2 Turbo with six-speed manual transmission has a maximum speed of 125mph[1], with 0-62mph acceleration taking 9.2 seconds. The 100hp model has a top speed of 113mph and accelerates from 0-62mph in around 11 seconds.
The 100hp entry-level engine is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. With the 130hp 1.2, customers can choose from a six-speed manual or a smooth eight-speed automatic. The automatic features state-of-the-art adaptive shift programmes and Quickshift-technology, allowing drivers to control gear selection via the standard steering wheel shift paddles.
High-tech and high efficiency: 1.5 diesel The two petrol engines are joined by a lively 1.5-litre diesel with six-speed manual transmission, producing 110hp and maximum torque of 250Nm (preliminary fuel consumption WLTP 62.8mpg to 65.7mpg and 114g/km to 117g/km CO2).
For optimum exhaust after-treatment, the diesel engineâs emissions reduction system â consisting of a passive oxidation catalyst/NOx adsorber, AdBlue injector, SCR catalyst and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) â is grouped together as a compact single unit, as close as possible to the engine. The NOx adsorber acts as a cold start catalyst, reducing NOx emissions during cold starts.
Fans of electric-mobility can order the Vauxhall Mokka-e as the Common Modular Platform (CMP) accommodates a variety of powertrains.
Mokka engines 1.2 Turbo 1.2 Turbo 1.2 Turbo 1.5 Diesel Power (kW/hp) @ rpm 74/100 @ 5000 100/130 @ 5500 100/130 @ 5500 81/110 @ 3500 Torque (Nm @ rpm) 205 @ 1750 230 @ 1750 230 @ 1750 250 @ 1750 Emissions Euro 6d Euro 6d Euro 6d Euro 6d Transmission MT6 MT6 AT8 MT6
Leader in the segment: high-tech assistance systems and lighting technology The all-new Mokka arrives in the B-segment with innovations that until recently have only been available in higher vehicle classes. Forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection operates at speeds above 3mph. If a vehicle or pedestrian ahead is approached too fast, the system sounds a warning chime and displays a message in the Driver Information Cluster. If a collision is imminent, the braking system is prepared and, if necessary, emergency braking is deployed to minimise the effects of a potential collision. Below 18mph the system can bring the vehicle to a complete stop. If the speed exceeds 18mph, speed is reduced and the driver must actively brake.
Adaptive cruise control maintains a certain distance between the new Mokka and the vehicle ahead, using radar and camera sensors. Operative from 18mph, the vehicle speed increases or decreases to follow the vehicle ahead, but will not exceed the set speed. With automatic transmission, the system offers additional stop and go functionality. It can brake the car to a standstill and follow the vehicle ahead in traffic jams.
Vauxhall is also a leader in lighting technology. All Mokka variants are equipped with latest generation LED lamps â from daytime running lights to front fog lights. An absolute highlight in this segment is the adaptive IntelliLux LED matrix lights with a total of 14 individual elements. As with the Vauxhall Insignia, Astra and the new Corsa, the lighting system enables driving on permanent high beam.
In order to prevent glare for drivers of oncoming or preceding vehicles, the individual LED elements are switched off in milliseconds to cut vehicles out of the light cone â so oncoming drivers are not dazzled, yet Mokka passengers experience stadium-like illumination. In the rear, the choice for LED-only technology has allowed designers to go for very thin, stretched lights enhancing the feeling of precision and quality.
Excellent seating engineering is typical of Vauxhall. Various six-way ergonomic seats are available in the new Mokka, which are individually adjustable. A sporty Alcantara and a classic full leather interior are both available â highly unusual for a vehicle in the B segment. The crowning glory is the heated leather seat with perforated surface and massage function for the driver.
The driver and front-seat passenger can place their smartphones in the storage tray provided in the centre console. Compatible telephones recharge here wirelessly, while the a specially shaped rubber mat prevents devices from sliding around. The new infotainment range perfectly networks and entertains Mokka drivers and passengers. Multimedia Radio and Multimedia Navi systems with a 7-inch colour touchscreen and the top-of-the-range system Multimedia Navi Pro with a high-resolution 10-inch colour touchscreen are available. The monitors are integral with the new Pure Panel from Vauxhall and ideally positioned towards the driver.
The multimedia systems feature integrated voice control and are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. The new Mokka also offers the Vauxhall Connect service for customers. LIVE navigation with real-time traffic information, plus a direct link to breakdown assistance and eCall, makes journeys even more relaxing for drivers and passengers. If the airbags or seatbelt tensioners deploy in an accident, eCall contacts the local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) automatically.

Adblue Market Share, Industry Growth, Size, Demand, Key Player, Development Analysis and Forecast 2023
AdBlue Market Global Market Overview
AdBlue is a non-hazardous solution, consisting 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionized water. This urea solution is consumed during selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which is sprayed into the exhaust stream. It is burnt at very high temperatures for breaking harmful nitrogen oxides produced by diesel engines into harmless nitrogen and water. The market is driven by various factors such increase in the use of selective catalytic reduction technology, stringent government regulations for the use of diesel exhaust fluid, and increase in production of vehicles. The Ad Blue has various constraints that hinder the market such as increase in sale of electric vehicles has restrained the use of diesel exhaust fluid.
Selective Catalytic Reduction is the most effective technology that is used to reduce harmful emission from the exhaust system. This technology injects urea through a catalyst in the exhaust system of diesel engines. The urea that is used as a diesel exhaust fluid converts nitrogen oxide in nitrogen and water. SCR technology is mainly used to reduce nitrogen oxide emission upto 90%, at the same time reducing HC and Co emission by 50-60%. SCR systems are also attached with the diesel particulate filter in order to reduce greater emission that can harm the environment. The increased use of SCR for the reduction of emission allows more light duty vehicles to meet the requirement of EPA emission regulations.
Key Players:-
Shell, BASF, Bosch, Daimler AG, Fiat group automobiles, Nissan chemical, Komatsu, Kruse Automotive, Alchem AG, Mitsui Chemical, and Yara and others are some of the prominent players profiled in MRFR Analysis and are at the forefront of competition in the global AdBlue market.

The manufacturer who wants to certify the engine and vehicle has to first demonstrate that the emission control systems are durable and would not harm the environment. For the control of emission, the government has set some regulations in order to protect the environment. API Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) certification program is a government program that is set to certify and monitor the quality of the diesel exhaust fluid used in diesel engine vehicles. Manufacturers who have satisfied the requirements of ISO 22241 (Diesel engines â NOx reduction agent AUS 32), have the license to display the mark of API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification.
The U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has set a criteria for the minimal refill of diesel exhaust fluid in order to reduce the nitrogen oxide emission. The increase in stringent government regulations has enabled the vehicle manufacturer to use diesel exhaust fluid in order to reduce emission. This increase in use of diesel exhaust fluids, will lead to the growth of this market.
