If you really think your group is the best one around, shouldn't they do just fine in a competitive labor market? All they would need is a level, colorblind playing field and they should win out. (I understand this is not your viewpoint, but just wanted to throw it in)

First of all, the whites who are going to be on the hiring committees for the prestigious jobs are going to lean liberal, and liberal whites already favor other groups over whites. White in-group favoritism is mostly found among the loser whites who won't be helping you swing a lawyer/data scientist job. So this is already a bit of a dead end.
Secondly and more seriously, labor markets (and post-secondary school applications) allow us to match talent with where it is best put to use through comparative advantage (labor markets) or standardized testing (school applications). Getting people to the positions they're best suited for is very important, and it's already difficult due to search frictions!
Say that everyone went out and discriminated in favor of their race to an equal, moderate level. In this case, it would all mostly balance out in racial bias, except now everyone is worse-matched into jobs that match their competence and every firm and institution now ends up less competent.
And if you think about your place in the economy, you'll see that you are very, very dependent on dozens of firms and institutions doing their jobs well. A 3% competence hit across the board would hurt pretty badly!
