"Madara, here you are! I was waiting for you outside the compound!" I shout out while coming inside the main training building and joining him on top of the stands.

"I was on my way. I took some weapons from the storehouse and… I've been distracted," he holds firmly the grip of his sword hanging on his sash.

He's disgruntled. I can hear it by his forced sarcastic tone. I watch over the crowded ground. A hundred people are busy fighting an invisible opponent, repeating the same kata movements again and again until it is imprinted in their muscles. Others are stretching their body, or wrapping their hands and feet before boxing a bag of sand. Nothing out of the norm, but if I judge by Madara's body language, he's fuming...

Madara, to me, feels like a sort of failed Jesus/Messiah

First of all, he was born in December 24th, just one day before Jesus's birthday, but the interesting part is:

Jesus, as well as Lucifer, is called Morningstar, the star who brings light to world; so Madara was born just one day before the sunlight could reach him, in darkness and cold (his birthday is in winter)

He considered himself the saviour of this world (not the god, a common misconception is "Madara has a god complex!" when he actually has a Messiah complex and Nagato has the god complex), just like Jesus is considered to be in Christianity

[By the way, obviously it also holds a Buddhist perspective, as showed right after this panel when he says "karmic cycle" and the whole meaning of the rinnegan, the samsara eyes]

He was doomed to fail since the day he was born, but also because he wanted to use Kaguya's power, a woman who ate a prohibited fruit with huge power... doesn't this sounds familiar to you about another important biblical character?

He lost, in a symbolic way, to someone who a "sinner" and also god-like

+Bonus: it makes more sense when considering Hashirama as Judas (Iscariot), as he was Madara's close friend and literally stabbed him in the back when he started to go against their system

Canadian Madara AU 🍁

@al-hekima-madara-blog: Can we have AU headcanon Madara as a North american guy? Maybe with japanese ancestry. I just wonder what type of job he would do, his hobbies, food preferences ect ect... Typical American boy😋

Of course I can write this! Thank you for this ask. It was fun! Madara will be Canadian here because that’s hilarious for me to write:

Speaks like a good Canadian boy: says “Eh” and “sorry” a lot even when it’s something minor and he isn’t at fault

Madara lives in Northern Canada away from other people in an igloo. He rides a moose to work

He dresses like a lumberjack (plaid shirt and jeans) and drinks maple syrup shots

Just kidding! You should have realized I was trolling the moment I said Madara apologizes a lot. And moose and igloos don’t exist in the same place. By the way, the English translations I’ve read don’t sound particularly Canadian to me for Madara. If anyone knows of the post highlighting how he sounds Canadian, please let me know! I’d love to read it!

But of course Madara can be Canadian because a Canadian can look and sound like anyone, including someone with Japanese heritage

Madara is exceptionally proud of his Japanese background, especially in a country with a smaller Japanese community than the other East Asian nationalities he is often mistaken for

His home contains a variety of Japanese items, such as katanas displayed on the walls, tatami mats, and byobu (folding screens with panels decorated with paintings and/or calligraphy). He owns several yukatas and kimonos

As much as he loves traditional Japanese food, he likes trying food from other cultures. He is spoiled for choices in his part of the country, but he most strongly prefers cuisines that aren’t too heavy

He is fluent in Japanese, French, and probably Mandarin and enjoys reading classical works in these languages in addition to English. He makes a point to occasionally speak in Japanese to his Japanese peers to maintain his language skills

Madara lives in the city away from the city center in a greatly overpriced mansion. However even in the suburbs, it is more densely populated than he enjoys, but he tolerates it because of its relative proximity to his job. Whenever he has a stretch of days off, he and Izuna often escape to cottage country a few hours’ drive away and engage in their outdoor hobbies. The cold doesn’t bother him

He is a black belt in karate. His other hobbies include rock climbing (especially bouldering since he appreciates the risk), archery, and Japanese calligraphy

He could be involved in the business world, but I can only vaguely hand-wave about ‘business things,’ so I’ll suggest something else I can see Madara doing that I’m familiar with instead

Madara is a thoracic surgeon (half of the ones I see are Japanese okay). He is excellent at his specialty, a perfectionist, and world renown for his surgical skill and medical knowledge. His surgeries are a work of art, but he’s a bit like an assembly line – patients in and out of his operating table. He fits the stereotypes of a surgeon too: Madara isn’t known for his bedside manners after all. He has a slight God complex due to his expertise, but even if he’s brusque, he remains adequately professional to his colleagues to avoid complaints

He actually destroys the image of the average Canadian’s polite speech patterns, which excessively contain “thank you,” “sorry,” and other hedging language. Madara doesn’t waste his time with these pointless words. Everything he says is meaningful, otherwise he wouldn’t bother speaking at all

This is not meant as a serious post or analysis, it’s just something that caught my attention while I was rereading manga.

This is, I believe, the first time we get to see Izuna, right? He has a ponytail and long hair. Interestingly, Madara doesn’t seem to have long hair here. Could this “memory” be from the time, when Madara and Izuna are still young then? Either that, or it could be just Itachi’s imagination altering their looks, what he (Itachi) in his own mind believed Izuna and Madara looked like.

Fast forward and we have Hashirama’s flashback (this is chapter 624, I think), so a memory of someone who actually met Izuna, even if just briefly. Here, Izuna looks very similar to Sasuke, only his lips still look the same. Perhaps it’s just me, but Izuna looks very different here.

Wow, I just noticed this. Madara protected not just himself, but Obito as well.

Sure, Obito stood relatively close to him, but still...Madara didn't have to do this. He didn't have to extend his shield to cover them both...but he did. And Obito surely could have defended himself on his own at this point and Madara probably knew or at least suspected that, but he still (perhaps instinctively?) automatically protected not just himself, but Obito too.

I think deep down, Madara cared about Obito, even if a little bit. As other bloggers have pointed out, Obito wasn't the one who was supposed to be sacrificed, at least not originally, that role was Nagato's.

Also, am I the one who noticed Madara didn't even mention the fact Obito was carrying his weapons? I know that when he was about to die of the old age, he basically told Obito he can have his identity for the time being, but still...

I think Obito was someone important, no matter how low Madara has fallen and no matter how much he wanted to give up on the failed reality.

We know Madara named Konoha. But the imagery here is just beautiful. He is a supposedly just cold-hearted warrior, he is someone who spent almost every single day of his life on the battlefield, someone before which the entire shinobi world trembles in fear.

And yet, when Hashirama asks him to name their village, Madara looks at a small leaf and then through it to find the name for the village, for this dream he and Hashirama dreamed about since they were children.

The way he looks at the leaf, there is almost a desperate look on his face. It's almost as if he was putting all of his pain and his last remaining hopes into this small, delicate leaf and through its hole (a hole that is, perhaps not randomly, placed at the center of the leaf as if it symbolized a heart?) looked at the village.

What's even more interesting, is the fact that Madara has this leaf in his hand for the entire conversation, and then later on, when he's eavesdropping on Hashirama and Tobirama, he still has it.

The leaf is also a symbol of trust, which is perhaps why Madara let go of it after he heard Tobirama's ill words about his clan.

I think this image – Madara holding onto a leaf – shows the softness and kindness, and also the vulnerability in Madara's soul. How many people just randomly decide to catch a leaf and then name something precious after it? This shows Madara's humanity. It shows Madara outside of the battlefield and war. A small and on top of all of it fractured leaf (remember, there was a hole in it), is perhaps not something most would find beauty and peace of mind in, but it seems Madara did.

Personal opinion and rant ahead:

Honestly, characters like Madara and Sasuke (also Nagato, Konan, Neji etc.) teach a lot more about "never giving up" than Naruto Uzumaki.

These characters at some point in their lives lost everything they ever had, lost all hope, but still kept going, trying to change the world for better, still fought like madmen for their rightful place in the world. Maybe they used wrong methods, maybe they weren't 100 percent right, but they still kept going.

They kept trying to climb their way out of their own grave, a grave other people dig for them.

If that's not about never giving up, then what is...?

To add: this is not to say Naruto never suffered, because he did. And a lot. But the other characters...had much bigger odds against them.

Why did Izuna decline Hashirama’s offer?

“Due to having fallen victim to the Curse of Hatred like many of the other Uchiha, Izuna was unable to see the greater good outside of his clan. When Hashirama offered to have their clans join forces to eliminate the non-stop wars and heavy blood-shed, even willing to heal Madara's younger brother, Izuna willingly went to his grave telling his brother not to trust the Senju as it would mean the demise of their own clan, despite the Senju clearly outclassing the Uchiha.” (Source)

This is quoted directly from the Narutopedia and I would like to analyze further, why I think Izuna declined Hashirama’s offer. So let’s look at things from Izuna’s perspective to understand his distrust for Senju:

He probably lost a close friend, or another very precious person (e. g. Tajima) whose death gained him Mangekyo Sharingan, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they died at the hands of Senju, since they were at war with each other (yes, I know Itachi said both Izuna and Madara killed their friend to gain power, but Itachi’s version is unreliable)

He lost his brothers, and their blood is likewise on Senju’s hands

Just by listing these two reasons alone, it should be clear Izuna’s distrust was very justified (at least from his perspective). Why would he trust those who took his family, his clansmen, and perhaps his closest friend from him? However, it is also important to note that the circumstances when the offer was made matter greatly and shouldn’t be overlooked when analyzing this situation.

This is the scene in manga, where Izuna declines Hashirama’s offer. First of all, I would love to point out one thing – Hashirama wasn’t even talking with Izuna in this scene, only with Madara. You might be thinking “oh, but that’s because Hashirama knew Madara and was his friend”, and yes, that is correct and could be true. However, from Izuna’s point of view:

Hashirama’s brother, Tobirama, just mortally wounded him and Hashirama didn’t even mention this when he was offering a truce. Hashirama’s first words were “Madara, you cannot win against me”, and with these words, Hashirama is proclaiming his higher status (of power), he is certainly not offering peace, at least not yet. Only afterwords Hashirama proceeded to talk about how the wars would eventually stop if their clans joined forces. There is not a single mention of Izuna in any of this. I repeat: not a single mention of Izuna. Why would Izuna accept a truce from a clan whose one member just mortally wounded him and the other talks, as if he wasn’t even there? As for Hashirama offering to heal Izuna; I reread the chapter in the manga and I see NO mention of Hashirama offering to heal Izuna. I don’t know, when and where was Hashirama supposed to give this offer, but I just don’t see it anywhere in chapter 624? Hashirama offered his hand to Madara, yes, that is a gesture of peace, but, and I repeat AGAIN – he didn’t say anything about Izuna.

From Izuna’s point of view, it’s also quite logical why he would think Hashirama is only trying to deceive them. Hashirama only offered the truce after Izuna was mortally wounded, in other words, after he (Hashirama) knew Madara would be in an incredible emotional distress due to his little brother dying and therefore would be much more likely to accept the offer. I can see how that would look suspicious in Izuna’s eyes.

I will not even comment on the “ victim of a curse of hatred” part as other amazing bloggers have already made great posts defying and critically analyzing this pseudoscience. I will only state that Izuna was clearly concerned with the greater good of his clan. And again: why would he trust Senju? Why would he, heck...why should he trust his murderers?

Lastly, Izuna foresaw where this so-called peace would lead to even before Madara did. He ended up being right.

“His excellency, Prince Genji.”

I immediately sit down on one knee. I have just enough time to briefly scan the room before a large strand of hair obstructs my view. Relying on my senses, I feel fifty-six strong samurai chakra’s signatures to my right, and forty-seven to my left. They’re all sitting seiza-style, perfectly aligned like pieces of shogi ready to be played with. In front of me, the prince is surrounded by four of his retainers. The dimensions are quite spectacular for a dojo: ten meters in ceiling height, sixty meters in depth, all made with the finest wood, and the morning light is beaming from the large window panes. The acoustics of the room are designed to make whispering between people almost impossible. Several meters ahead of me, I hear the prince’s garments slightly creasing when he stands up. He closes his folding fan with a sharp snap and walks towards me. One of his advisors begins to introduce me.

“The Uchiha clan's leader, Lord Madara, has just arrived to show his humble respect to your Excellency. Last season, his leadership has been noticed in active combat. Aside from their usual act of sabotage, the Uchiha have shown very distinctive offensive attacks. They were already renowned for their massive use of firepower. But now they combine this skill with speed. They can redeploy their forces with extreme rapidity, leaving their opponents unprepared to counter-attack or retreat. Those actions have weakened your enemies' strongholds, and they’ve been defeated in many strategic points, which allowed you to push forward your army’s expansion next year, now that your southern frontier is secured. This shinobi sect has demonstrated without a doubt his loyalty to your cause and a severe approach towards the dissidents.”

Madara : Saturne in Sagittarius

When Saturn's return and karma is real

"Last planet that you can observe with a naked eye, associated with old age, last frontier before death. Saturn is also called the Great Maleficent, an energy usually fear but actually who gives healthy limits and teaches you resilience through hardships. When mastered Saturn is about deep mental refinement.

At first, the optimistic sign of Sagittarius and the dry Saturn seems to not being a good mix. Instead of a passionate adventurer, Saturn tone down its explosive side. Not taming it completely, but adding structure in its original wild nature. Here come the Judge, the dogmatic cleric using the fire of faith to dictate the rule. I saw this in Madara specially in his Rikudo phase when he is thrilled by his own immortality. but also in his old age while talking to Obito. He is the strict daddy teacher who doesn’t let you having fun and reminds you how life is hard and how time is passing and you gonna die anyway…

Saturn accentuates conservatism in everything it touches. It puts limitations, difficulties and confronts you with your fears. In Madara’s life Saturn is his limitation in his search of higher wisdom. He had been told that power can protect your family, it wasn’t the case. Hashirama proposed him to collaborate to his vision of Peace, it ends up being a source of disappointment. He studied the old sources talking about shinobi’s origin but find « despair » when he realised everything was the same cycle of violence back from Kaguya’s time. His belief’s system is always challenged. In real life, people with this tendency ends up either strongly atheist or great spiritual master, no in-between.

After feeling reject from Konoha, his own clan, and ultimately betrayed by Hashirama, he died to the material world. Escaping in research of deep introversion is closely connected to Saturn. At its finest, Saturn is the Monk who finds a mystical experience within himself. Madara reached, in a way, a bitter illumination in the depths of Earth."

Sure... six months ago I took over the leadership of the Uchiha but being called this way was still alien. Everything happened so quickly after that, the leadership, missions, battlefields, some victories, some losses... in fact everything changed for me but nothing changed for the clan. I knew what to expect though, father prepared me for those days, I knew the price to pay for it but... All of this is already turning sour before I can even pick up the fruit of it... I push her image back deeper, deeper in my mind. Ghosts can't help me anymore, can they?

The four men release their chakra and let themselves fall from the ceiling without a sound on the floor. They have been separately training for a month to learn how to both knead and reduce their chakras, a very counter-intuitive way to use it, and it takes a lot of mental strength to hold it for a long period. Well done, it makes them almost undetectable. This technique can’t be used in combat since it limits the amount of chakra, but it’s a perfect jutsu that Izuna invented for espionage activities and to avoid most sensors' radar. I take out from a file a set of cards, each of them with a personalized symbol. I put down the first card in front of me, representing the first person I recognize.

“Hikaku, my dear cousin. The best talent of this season, Shimora said. An impeccable sense of strategy, not scared of going first line. However, many superiors note a lack of respect for authority. If you weren’t so quarrelsome, you’d have been assigned to missions with men under your command…”
