How do you come up with the personal nicknames for GL?

I choose most of the nicknames based on characters interests or likes. Or, with something, that can be associated with characters.

Fyodor's, Nikolai's and Fukuzawa's were an easy pick (Myshonok, Birdy, Kitten).

Oda get nickname, that based on his dream to be a writer (Novel Luck)

Sigma get cookie themed nickname (Cookie Heart).

Ayatsuji's nickname based on his love of dolls (Porcelain Treasure).

Flags nicknames based on their 'jobs' (Racing Star for Albatross, Kindly Care for Doc, Start Performer for Lippmann, Rare Coin for Piano Man). Only Iceman's Snowflake is based on his own nickname.

Poe and Bram get an 'associated' nicknames (Little Raven, Little Bat).

Kouyou's nickname "Flower" are based on her first manga appearance (under Sakura Trees).

For Tetchou's "Sakura Blossom" slightly based on his ability, and because, for me, Plum Blossom sounds a bit strange for an affectionate nickname.

Jouno's "Firefly" based on his ability (turning into afterglow).

Chuuya's "Symphony" came from Chuuya's love of music.

At this moment, Dazai's nickname "Iris Flower" was the hardest to think about. I didn't want to used classic fannon "belladonna", because of second meaning of it (beautiful woman) and wanted to have something more neutral. But, I wanted to keep the theme of poisonous plant and a hidden meaning. So, I took a look at the list of poisonous plants and looked their meaning in flower language. That's how I choose iris. It's a very poisonous plant, that means "trust, valor, and wisdom, in addition to loyalty, good news, glad tidings, and the arrival of happiness". Moreover, Japanese irises symbolize elegance, admiration, strength, hope, courage, and health.
