I'm not sure how doll collectors do it but I never want to order from Aliexpress again I tried to order a Blythe doll and some clothes for my birthday and it never got to me somehow they lost my package and I had to call my bank just to get my money back for items I did not receive smh. I'm just gonna keep paying 80 plus dollars on Etsy for a Blythe doll at least then I'll know that I will get my item.

The fact that etsy now allows dropshipping while still claiming that they don't is so audacious, the site is literally worthless now. I feel so bad for the artists having to compete with floods of dropshippers and people shelling out $80 for a bjd outfit being like "it's worth it to support local artisans" when in reality they're buying an item from taobao that actually costs $15 and is sold for $25 on aliexpress and ebay. Not even joking the etsy markups are that bad. I wouldn't even hate these taobao resellers if they didn't try to scalp the prices so much and were honest about being resellers instead of making it look like they are the ones making the clothes. Not to mention all the recasts on there...

It came up in conversation how I'm often finding good BJD listings on eBay and how do I search in order to find things.

My main searches are:

bjd -ucanaan -toy -toys -popovy -recast -eva -doris -barbie -gift -changeable -removable -gifts -oueneifs -faiiry -ken

and

volks -azone -blythe -pullip

However, I've also excluded a lot of sellers that sell recasts.

To do that you have to go to Advanced search and scroll down to here:

and put in whatever sellers you don't want to see in your search results.

I just added one, so mine's:

I also set the first search to North America only because there's no "everywhere but China" option. China is where most of the fakes are coming from as of now. That does mean I miss out on a TON of listings, though.

That helps filter out recasters that don't disclose they're selling recasts and AliExpress junk.

The Volks search's results are much fewer so sorting through them isn't as daunting and I have that one set to worldwide.

Either way, afaik Facebook Groups is the most active place to buy and sell BJD right now? I'm not in any groups, though.

I've always wanted to customize Blythe, ever since I was about 18 and This is Blythe was a legitimate site. It was just never an accessible hobby for me - the price was out of my range and the thought of carving into something like that with no experience? No way.

Enter the "factory" fake. The TBL. The aliexpress girls. The perfect vehicle to practice on. I don't think I did half bad. She's got carved lips and nose, a custom set of eye chips (that I bought, I didn't make them), a gaze correction and sleep eyes and, obviously, a repainted face. I plan to do more, but she's a project I sink a little into at a time.

i have a blythe coming in the mail!!! one from aliexpress so i can try customizing and one from Junie Moon. I got Dear forest deer!!! she’s so freaking cute her outfit is so adorable i love the deer on her dress!! SO EXCITED… it takes a while to ship though.

i’m also trying to revive my beary fairy kiyomi pullip that i got when i was like a kid… her hair was chopped and her whole outfit is gone, which makes me sad bc she IS her outfit yk, like all fashion dolls are. but im ordering some clothes here and there to try and attempt to give back at least her vibe…. like cutesy bunny. so far i ordered a dress, new wig, and im abt to order her some new shoes and socks on aliexpress, and im gonna order a bunny hat on etsy soon!!

i did try to see if anyone was selling just her outfit online, but it hasn’t been successful so now im just gonna give up and buy her a new outfit that kinda matches her previous one/ matches her previous aesthetic

Doll Stuff I Find on Aliexpress 1

Well, I need that, for reasons...for Pangbourne Boathouse reasons. Anyone got a spare doily? Seriously though, not going to get this. Too much storage for not enough use. Not going on my list.

leather jacket. Tris needs a moto jacket. This one is sized for Blythe, might be too small, but nice detail and I have a Blythe if it doesn't fit Tris. On the other hand, I have a different unbranded leather jacket to work on modifying for him and a Creatable World leather jacket I haven't even tried on him. Wishlist

In speaking of outerwear... Cow Jacket for Alex!!!! Also the dresses would be nice on the 1979 Superstar Barbie and her Malibu galpal that came to me recently for refurbishment and without clothing. Definitely buying.

More excellent flares. Look at that sewn in crease and since their short on Babs I might not even have to re-hem them for the Paradox lads. The coat and scarf are very useful too. Buy list.

Ugh it stopped being a fun time to hang out on Aliexpress because they are about to start their Black Friday Sale and it is hurting the functionality of the website.

She's really high quality, her hair is so thick and soft and her face is perfect. I'm trying to think of a name for her right now (I got her yesterday) I want something kind of old fashioned in a 2000s twee kind of way... I may wait for the perfect name to come to me. Suggestions welcome ❤️

Phaedra is one of The prettiest dolls IMO but I didn't like how Pacific Coast only gets one kinda measly outfit, so I restyled her with this Blythe dress from I think AliExpress of all places, and accessories from the Rainbow Divas!

The next two dolls in my collection are also from @dollclothes529 on eBay 💗 I got this one as a faceplate to use on a doll I got on aliexpress and tried to customize myself but it was much more difficult than I expected so i had a body but no faceplate ! So instead I asked @dollclothes529 if they could customize a faceplate and I put this doll together to be a mini me doll ☺️ I was able to order my own hair and her clothes, accessories are pull strings are very symbolic to me! I like to take pictures so she has a little camera of her own, the hair clip came with another doll but it is perfect for her because I have one very similar and the snoopy sweater I found on depop and ordered because it is perfect i love snoopy!!! She even has the same tortoiseshell glasses that I do 😂 one thing I love about blythes is all the amazing clothes and accessories available for them. I found her pull strings on Etsy and chose them because my star sign is cancer and I love the colors and pearly beads 🥹 she’s taken me over half a year to complete but I love her so much she’s very special to me 🤍🐚🌺🪽

I'm sorry for the crappy lighting (of course it clouded up when I got home) The one in the tights is Homecoming Queen Skipper. I can't remember who the Skipper in the blue dress is but I included her in the line up just in case; she's a little darker than HQS.

Creatable World doll on the left is not a good match.

This Creatable World doll isn't bad but the Skippers have more of a reddish tone.

This Skipper Babysitter's Inc doll is close but a bit lighter. I fell in love with her so I couldn't behead her ^_^;;;

This is a Licca/Blythe doll body I got off Aliexpress. I had bought two that were supposedly different shades of brown (and one was 80 cents more) but they ended up being the same color. It's not a great match as the Skippers are redder in tone but it could work. The arms are SHINY.

Rainbow High Customization Notes

I mainly collect Asian ball-jointed and fashion dolls so I don't have much experience with Western fashion dolls. I had to do research on how to customize these dolls and here are my notes organized.

Wig

6-7 or a tighter 7-8 inch

I tried both 6-7 and 7-8. 6-7 will not slip but a 7-8 is much easier to put on. You'll need a wig cap or tape. These wig sizes are sometimes listed as 1/6 or YoSD (6-7) and 1/4 or MSD (7-8) by sellers. I will be using a 6-7 wig for my Mini Karp.

YoSD and MSD are BJD community jargon for dolls that are similar in size to Volks' Young Super Dollfie and Mini Super Dollfie lines. YoSD sized dolls are designed to look like children next to 1/3 or Super Dollfie (SD) sized BJDs. People also use Large ( 50cm+), Mini (~40cm), and Tiny (~30cm) when taking about doll sizes.

Eyes

Eyes are a unique shape. Recommended getting factory reject eyes from AliExpress. Eyes fit into holes inside the head. Cutting the head open will not allow you to replace the eyes. The eyes must be squeezed out after heating the head in warm water.

18-20mm eyes will fit inside RH's eye holes. If you're using not RH eyes, I recommend acrylic or resin anime styled eyes.

Body

Thicker than Pullip/Blythe, 1/6 Obitsu, and regular Barbie.

Thinner than standard Tiny sized BJDs (YoSD size).

The body and head are not proportional. The head is comparable to YoSD sized dolls, while the body is more in line with "mature tiny" sized dolls. However it is still a bit too thick for most mature tinies.

Mature Tiny is jargon for Tiny dolls that have more adult proportions.

Clothing

✅ Pullip/Blythe tops, dresses, skirts, hand accessories

✅ YoSD head accessories

✅ LOL OMG tops and bottoms if they're stretchy, accessories

✅ Curvy Barbie tops, bottoms

✅ NaNaNa Surprise tops, bottoms, dresses

⚠️ Monster High jackets and shoes are tight (@ca-cupid for info about MH jackets)

⚠️ YoSD tops, skirts, dresses, socks, belts may be able to fit with modifications
