Requiem of the Rose King absolutely off to an amazing start. Definitely made the right choice to watch with my Mum who knows the history and so knew who everyone was and also the various ways they are fudging the time line.

Which also means that I am more invested in Henry as a love interest, because I assumed it was Henry VII and they were gonna go down the whole tragic "killed by his lover" route, but no? It's Henry VI! Who was deposed when Richard was still an infant and probably never actually met him... but here they're troubled souls and forbidden lovers and I have no clue how they're gonna make it work but I am HERE FOR IT!

Especially here for whatever the fuck Joan of Arc has got going on. I mean, ignoring all the bull shit involved in portraying her as a demonic witch, I'm totally down for that aesthetic and just letting women be absolutely fuckin' feral.

There's also the inherent problematic nature of having someone who is intersex be described as a demon and an affront to God... but that's no better than the Ableism in the Shakespeare Play this is based on so ???? But at least there are some people out there telling Richard his body is beautiful! I hope that if this gets a Dub, they're able to hire an Intersex Actor for Richard. I know that Funi have several Trans actors on their books now, so I have hope that we'll at least get someone who isn't Cis .... but whilst the Trans Experience and the Intersex Experience are related they are by no means the same. Would be amusing to have Josh Grelle in the role though, since they shared a role with the Seiyuu (Mitsuki Saiga) in the form of Kuranosuke in Princess Jellyfish!

I can tell this is going to be my highlight of the season though! I'd try to pick up the manga, but I am well over my monthly budget thanks to all my Pre-orders 😳
