Hi there this blog is here for a little bit of research and a stupid study I want to conduct

Here to ask one simple question

Is this pokemon furry bait?

For a more detailed explanation feel free to keep reading if you're just here for some polls feel free to just scroll on past

(All polls are tagged #poll so if you want to avoid other stuff I might post you can always look for them that way)

But here's a better explanation of what I'm doing

I want to figure out what furry bait means in regards to specifically pokemon, pokemon design, and in the pokemon fandom

I personally don't really like the term furry bait in regards to pokemon for a couple reasons that will be mentioned as we go along and I prefer to call them "heavily anthro pokemon" but I also don't feel it has the exact same definition as furry bait when talking about pokemon and also its what basically everyone else uses so I will be using it for simplicity sake

What even is furry bait in regards to pokemon?

Generally furry bait has 2 meanings in most non pokemon related media or fandoms

Specifically designed to bait furries into buying or enjoying a product due to use of anthro designs

Anthro characters that could easily be seen as conventionally attractive

But I personally don't feel either of these definitions apply to pokemon and its also generally not how I see the term furry bait used by fans either

I spend alot of time on a pokemon discord server so the topic comes up alot and often people use really broad definitions that you can very easily apply to pokemon not typically seen as furry bait

Most broad definitions I get seen thrown around are stuff like

Bipedal animal

Popular among furries

Acts like a human

Designed to look like human clothing

Which obviously these definitions can be used by practically all pokemon if you look hard enough

To me personally I think its a combination of a thew things

Over all body shape (generally digitigrade with more human limb proportions)

Popularity

Based on animals commonly used in the furry fandom (canines, felines ect.)

But I have seen multiple pokemon which I think fit this definition which often are not generally considered as furry bait

to me mewtwo sticks out as it meets all 3 criteria but isn't really called furry bait

Which brings me on to my next possible definition

Furry bait in regards to pokemon is a buzz word used often as an Insult towards "modern" pokemon design

So to me these are the 3 main ways I see furry bait used by pokemon fans

What will the polls be?

Most of the polls here will range from generic anthro pokemon to more joking picks that do fit the definitions I often get told (sometimes even too well) but never really get lumped in with the list of furry bait pokemon for whatever reason

Polls for now will go live daily at around noon uk time and will stay open for 1 week

I will be avoiding polls on pokemon that are basically always called furry bait or brought up when furry bait is talked about

If you would like to suggest a pokemon for a poll my asks are open but preferably give me a couple reasons why you think that pokemon is or isn't furry bait

Luffy is confirmed AroAce by Eiichiro Oda! He explicitly said "There will be no Romance in One Piece" since "Little boys (target reading demographic) aren't interested in that"

Luffy has had several characters in love with him, including Alvida who swore to marry him (because she adores strong men) and Boa Hancock (who initially hated that Luffy was not immediately entranced by her beauty.) Luffy has been shown to... "appreciate" the nude form of a woman (seen in a gag during the Alabasta Arc where Nami flashes the men in the crew who are peeping at her from the Men's Bath) To be fair, the flashing effects the entire crew, including Chopper who is adamant he's not interested in human women. This seems to indicate it's more for a gag than actual indication of Luffy's sexual preferences.

Nami, also, shows no real interest in partnering up with Luffy so the Luffy/Nami ship is just... well... non-canon as far as I can tell.

Generally speaking the two closest things we get to romantic/sexual characters are Chopper and Sanji. And Sanji just loves all women so he's like... hyper-straight. The straightest Straight. Straight with a Capital S. Str8. (Which makes the Sanji/Zoro ship hilarious to me)

Then there's Chopper who in later chapters meets and is shown to have a crush on a Reindeer Mink (basically a humanoid with animal features/furry/anthro) named Milky

Basically everyone else in the crew doesn't pursue or show interest in basically anyone else and most of their relationships are of the familial sort.

But at the very least, Luffy explicitly rejects several marriage proposals and does not seek out sexual or romantic interactions (Even in the Alabasta Arc Gag he's... just kinda there. Sanji is the one who asks where the women's bath is, and Usopp is the only one who shows genuine interest when they find out [King Cobra of all people says "Yeah, the women's bath is over there" and Usopp is like "I like this old guy." before they all go peek. I think in the anime they even show King Cobra peeking like... dude, that's your daughter and one other woman, what the fuck?)

So yeah. Sanji? Basically confirmed Straight. Usopp? Probs Straight. Zoro? Who knows. Appears to like Tashigi and possibly Kuina who was his childhood friend, but their relationships are murky and could easily be considered friendships. Chopper? Probably straight but definitely only interested in reindeer people. Brook? Straight or just a perv. Franky? Probably straight? Nami? NO ONE KNOWS. She mostly seems to enjoy flashing her own crewmates so she can charge them money for seeing her tits. That's literally all we know. Robin? BIGGEST FUCKING MYSTERY. I wanna say big lesbian vibes but I really can't.

But Luffy? ARO ACE. For sure. Likes food more than anything. Deffo has shown no interest in banging his crewmates. Wants to eat and sleep and go on adventures. Biggest concerns for 90% of the voyage was his hat, his crew, food, and having a musician in the crew. Genuinely does not treat men and women differently aside from one gag (the Alabasta thing) so far.

Like, Boa Hancock is considered the hottest woman in the world except for maybe mermaids and she straight up proposed to Luffy and he was like "Nah. Fuck that."

In the 6th movie where basically everybody dies on camera and Luffy has to watch? The most concern he showed was for Zoro and it was at least 50% because Zoro was the last one left that he thought he might be able to save. Literally the most subdued reaction was for Nami. And the other 50% was probably because Zoro was his FIRST crewmate.

Luffy is 900% about making friends, eating, and beating the shit out of assholes while having fun. I have never seen him give more than a passing glance at Nami's titties for ONE (1) gag. In fact, I genuinely believe he would only have a genuine interest in breasts as a source of milk. He literally cares that little.

I cannot say this enough. APART FROM ONE GAG, Luffy literally does not show any sexual or romantic interest in women or men and routinely rejects marriage proposals from two of the most beautiful women in the series.

TL;DR, Luffy is confirmed by word of God and 99.99999% of canon content to be aromantic and asexual

A story of the past

“I’m Alicia, Sergeant of the first Savannah Defense Group. I’d like to welcome you to our city, but you seem ready to launch an attack on us.”

“You’ll have to excuse our caution,” Vee replied, “We’ve encountered nothing but violence and hate since our return. I’m VeeDee, this is my second in command, El.”

She studied the bull, then the lynx. “VeeDee? El? You’re the Specialists?”

“You know about us?” El watched as the Anthros behind her whispered and seemed to explain to the humans.

“Are you kidding? Everyone knows about the First Specialist units. We were on our way to Vermont from the San Diego Army depot. Where are you coming from?”

Vee took his time replying, and when he did so it was with a question instead of answering hers. “How come it looks like you’ve settled here, if you were going to join the Lab?”

“The city needed a good defense force when we got here, the wall was barely started. We were only going to stay long enough to help them finish it, take the time to train the people here in the basics of fighting, but Governor Artell made a good case for how we’d be more useful here, rather the at a base where probably every other Anthro was heading for.”

“How many were with you?”

“About three hundred when we left San Diego. Half that when we got here. Like you, we encountered a lot of violence on the way. The country fell apart.”

“All of them Anthros?”

“We had a dozen humans, mainly sergeants and captains. The Brass got wind of something coming and ordered the humans to leave. Only the few who worked with us on a daily basis stayed. The others got in helicopters and flew off, only to drop from the sky as every other technological item stopped working.” There was no glee or joy at that in her voice, but also no sadness. El wondered if it was because by then she’d grown not to care about the humans giving orders as he had, or if the hardship that had come afterward had inured her to what had happened.

The lizard at her shoulder, covered in twice the layers, had no trouble making his feeling heard. “Good riddance,” he spat.

She didn’t react to his vehemence. “Before the helicopters crashed, stuff exploded all around. Best we worked out is that as stuff failed, combustibles mixed, but our sniper, she had enhanced vision, also saw missiles falling from the sky.”

Vee nodded. “They stopped working when technology stopped.”

“But it’s more than that. You’ve noticed that you can’t boil water, right? Have you tried to work with electricity? That’s gone too. We tried to collect lighting, Marie-Anne is a historian, so she has a lot of physical books. Some of them cover really old experiments, from before we had technolog—”

“Sarg,” the lizard interrupted, “I know you guys aren’t feeling it, but it’s really cold out here. Is there any chance we can continue this so exciting discussion inside? Where there are fires going? I mean unless you prefer having to carry me back.”

Vee studied him. “You are?”

“Charlie, Sir. With the sixth Recon Division.”

“And you’re cold-blooded?”

“Yep. The scientist who made my group thought it would be great if we could beat heat sensors. Of course they didn’t think things through, we fall asleep at anything below five degree Celsius, and above thirty we start overheating.”

“And you came out here?” El asked.

“I go where the Sarg goes. I owe her that much.”

She rolled her eyes and El got the impression the two of them had had arguments about this, but there was affection in the expression. “Charlie’s right, we’ll be more comfortable inside, where it’s warm.” She looked them over. “I’m not going to ask that you hand over your weapons, Sir, but I have to request that you put them away.”

The bull looked at her, not putting his sword away.

“Sir, they’re good people here. I know you’ve had bad experiences, but the people here, they appreciate us.”

“Not all of them,” Charlie said, “But most. The governor makes sure we’re all equals here. None of the shit about us having to do everything humans say we have to deal with at the base.”

“Charlie,” Alicia warned.

The lizard smiled. “No one likes a perfect story, especially not after what they’ve gone through. It’s no paradise,” he told Vee, “but I don’t think you’ll get any closer to it while you’re alive.”

Vee nodded and sheathed his sword. El did the same. “Let’s go get warmed up then. I’ve had enough of the cold.”

With sighs of relief the others followed their example, sheathing swords and unstringing bows. The badger led them through the gate, and El saw it wasn’t just a palisade, they’d built two walls and enclosed them, forming rooms inside the wall, and the one she took them to had racks of weapons, but more importantly, it was warm. Four pits had been dug in the ground and fires burned in them.

Charlie was at one before everyone was inside. He stepped through the people already around if and moved close enough the flames licked at his furs. By reflex El tried to push the fire away from the lizard, but while he felt it, it didn’t obey.

Charlie took the furs off and threw them at the people behind him, who seemed used to it as they caught them and hung them on pegs in the wall. When they were all off all he wore was an old pair of jeans. Vee and El joined him at the fire, not standing as close, while everyone else found a fire to stand close to.

El rejoiced at the heat, feeling for the first time in weeks like there was a reason to keep going. When they were warm enough, they had to shed their extra layers, Alicia brought them to a barrack.

Hey guys i just wanna say, i don't like telling anyone what to do. But id rather just suggest stuff. You can disagree with me on this topic and im glad to listen :")!! But this is my opinion and if you dont agree then just leave! I do myself draw fanart and fandom related things here and there, and I think its something really fun and nice to do!! But I've been seeing a lot of artists and even some of my artist friends who end up only drawing that sort of stuff since its what gets more followers and notes. I personally, think its something sad. But dont get me wrong! There are artist who like and would rather draw fanart only, and im fine with that. But i think theres a difference when someone is having fun w/ it, and just doing it cause they want followers, notes, and some confidence? I love doing fanart! Its always fun and its something special for me everytime. But im not going to keep drawing it because people like it. It ends up losing its pizzazz and becomes like a job, where i gotta start contributing to the fandom or people will "forget" me. I draw fanart when i want /ask for requests :)! I'm an artist who enjoys doing my own stuff, i guess "original" stuff. But stuff thats not so much tied to a franchise/person/ etc. " oh but miisty aren't you part of the furry fandom???!!1" Yes! And no at the same time :D Last time i checked, the "furry " fandom isnt owned by anyone, i dont reference my "furry" (i prefer to call them anthros) characters to one "main furry" character. I either make my characters based simply off of animals or just randomly, and in my style i prefer to have them on (cause theres a bunch of different ways you can draw an anthro character). But i put a lot of effort and thinking into my characters that i sometimes dont see them being part of the furry fandom, they become my original characters!! :D just really fluffy lol! Making a furry character is honestly the same as making a human character. And no one complains about a human character oc being part of a fandom/ fanart for something (key word is oc). Anyways, like i was saying. Im an artist who likes to do my own stuff a lot more than just drawing fanart. And i know theres a ot of other artists who does the same! But i believe we should get the same support as those who draw fanart more than ocs. Artists who put more effort into making their characters, lore, etc dont get the recognition as someone who draws simple fanart and then everyone is all over them. I can be bitchy, im not gonna apologize for it but i would favor an artist who has the creativity and determination who keeps on making ocs and creating lore, and showing off their own creations. Someone who can built their own confidence naturally, than having someone give them the confidence for something that shouldnt represent them. Some would disagree with me. But let me remind you again, if you enjoy drawing fanart, just cause YOU enjoy it. Then im really happy. You have that natural confidence in you. But if you draw fanart and wait for the veiws, and wait for the followers, you wait for the notes, etc etc. Then i just feel sad when you brag about it, or get surprised. Honestly, you should've seen that shit coming, wheter being an experienced artist/ just starting. Theres also artists who draws fanart to gain attention and gain followers just so then they can start drawing oc stuff and have more people see it. First of all, ive always seen that sort of stuff as clickbaiting. Don't get me wrong. That shit works, youre gonna get followers and attention. But in my opinion, its more awarding doing your own shit and doing that shit good. Challenge yourself than taking the easy route, cause then you might end up commiting to something you could possibly regret. I like to stay true to myself. I think its 10x better being yourself and do things you wanna do. That it needs to be recognized in some way you know? We need more rolemodels or atleast support these rolemodels who shoot off these amazing and original content!! Need rolemodels who are confident and let others know to be confident in their own ideas and skin. Ive experienced being the type of artist who drew mainly for a fandom (fnaf) and saw how people favored the fnaf content than my own. I started it actually as an experiment, an experiment than proved me right on something. While drawing fnaf stuff It was nice but fucking sucked when i posted my own shit i put more effort in, cause not much cared. I ended up stopping making the fanart and wanted to keep only doing my own things. People ended up ignoring my own stuff/ lil attention that i ended up stop posting in there at all. Since it was an experiment it wasn't like i was gonna keep staying there. After that i kinda understand that whole weird and sad concept. Again, i think there needs to be a lot of support/recognition for the artists who do their own thing. Just as equal to artist who draw fanart :") REMINDER: THIS IS MY OPINION, IF YOU DISAGREE I 100% UNDERSTAND. Say your own opinion! People have different views, and different ways interpreting things!
