hello!!
i’m not sure if you remember me but i’m the anon who sent you an ask about learning/studying japanese ^^
i just wanted to share with you that i translated a fanart! well, sort of…
i saw this wholesome demon slayer fanart and the first chat bubble looked simple enough so i decided to saved it and email it to my ipad. but as i read through, turns out it wasn’t as simple 😵‍💫
i ended up using three colors to navigate through the translation. first color is my own translation/words i already know. second color is for google translate. and the last color is for new words or to confirm a meaning of a word that i know of but wasn’t confident in its meaning 😅
i knew a lot of the words and the ones i didn’t were easy enough to understand to the point where i could form a sentence. my translations were wonky but i was on the right track with its meaning (or at least based on google 😁) and sometimes my translations were better than google! (though i cant say for sure since i just started n4 😅)
it took me an hour to translate three pictures and i kept thinking of you the whole time! i was like “damn, im struggling with just three pics yet they’re (you) are out there translating an entire chapter from a manga with complex sentences 😭” so kudos to you for translating all those chapters and even comparing your translations with the online ones!
and also, thank you so much for encouraging me to study! i couldn’t have done it without you 🥰❤️
Hi there!!
Yes, I remember you, thanks for giving me an update on your progress! Using different colors is a great approach and I'm happy to hear that you knew a lot of the words and could figure out what you didn't know too.
Things like fanart are definitely a fun way to practice (hence why I'm making the translation posts; it's basically killing two birds with one stone).
Don't worry about it taking a long time, translation always takes time and you'll become faster at it the more you progress and certain words/patterns/grammar points pop up repeatedly.
And some sentences are harder to understand than others so don't feel discouraged because I struggle a lot of the times too!
Here's a visual representation of me trying to make sense of complex sentences -
Tumblr media
- like chapter 350 when AFO started talking about Touya's somatic system?? I didn't even know what that meant in English LMAO.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that I could encourage you, it means a lot ♡
Keep up the good work!!
