Dungeon Meshi Chapter 85
Marcille is full of desires and is having a bad hair day
Tumblr media
Marcille wanted a way to safely observe the battle without the risk of being attacked. The lion made a tower for her to watch from. But it didn't bother to put anything in the tower.
Tumblr media
The lion doesn't serve Laios, but it is constantly dangling temptation in front of him. Marcille is at the top of the tower, but there's no way to get there. It's almost as if the lion is dangling some great desire that can only be satisfied by relying on its power.
Y'know, I have no idea where Marcille's house was in relation to the rest of the dungeon. I suppose it was somewhere relatively close to the former fourth floor but I guess it doesn't matter much since Marcille is playing fast and loose with the dungeon layout.
I'm just bringing this up because Falin's body being moved into the tower is convenient cause now we know where it is.
Tumblr media
The empty tower gets filled with Marcille's desires during this chapter. We could say the tower's contents represent the whole of Marcille's desires. And the first things put in the tower were the party and Falin. Even if she won't admit it, she wants her friends more than anything.
Yes Izutsumi. You'd definitely win. *Gives her a condescending headpat*
Tumblr media
No wonder the lord always goes mad. The demon will not give them a moment of peace. And it probably uses the lord's overflowing desires to help distract them from their own personal goals.
Tumblr media
Marcille started being flooded with all these miscellaneous desires after everyone was in the tower. She had a focused desire to make sure everyone is safe, but now that that's satisfied, she's lost her focus and is conjuring every little thing that comes to mind.
She looks so pouty here. Sugar and butter aren't things that can be made by foraging and hunting in the dungeon.
Tumblr media
I think this is the funniest out-of-context line I've read in this series.
Tumblr media
The lion takes a lot of half-measures to fulfill its master's wishes. Marcille wanted a way to stop the Canaries - the lion summoned giant spiders which Marcille didn't like; Marcille wanted to see her father - the lion conjured a doppelganger that only looks like him; Marcille wanted a tower to observe the battle from - the lion conjured a tower but put no internal structure and trapped Marcille at the top; Marcille wants a sweet and buttery pie - the lion conjured a pie that doesn't taste like anything in particular.
Everything it's giving Marcille is always missing something which causes Marcille to desire whatever is missing.
I made the exact same laugh here as that time Zon threw a bag of flour and bread starter at Senshi in chapter 9.
Tumblr media
Here's a subtle way the lion is manipulating things in its favor. It wants Laios to become its lord and has set up a scenario where the party needs to use its power. They can't reach Marcille because the tower has no internal structure and every moment Marcille isn't distracted, she's trying to command an army of monsters to slaughter everyone outside and breach the surface. The only way they can reach her and protect everyone is by getting Marcille to think of things she wants until there's enough stuff to climb up to her.
They have to rely on the lion's power to reach Marcille and save everyone outside. The lion gets to enjoy Marcille's desires and gets to show what it is capable of to the person it wants to take hold of its power.
Tumblr media
Senshi is totally smiling here.
Tumblr media
Going back to those half-measures the lion uses, everything it's conjuring for Marcille is too big to be any use. Yes, Marcille got what she wanted, but she can't actually use any of them.
And while I'm here, I'm also going to call out his "I only serve my master" bit as the lie it is. The lion is not beholden to anyone; it chooses to serve the dungeon lord. The lion betrayed Thistle and it's conspiring to make Laios its new master. And the dungeon responds to peoples' desires in great and small ways such as providing safe resting areas, water, and riches.
The reason everything Marcille is wishing for is so huge is because the lion isn't actually interested in fulfilling Marcille's wishes; it wants to fulfill Laios's wish to reach her and is just making the party go about it in this roundabout method because it gets more desires to feed on this way.
Laios and Senshi fighting those doppelgangers in the background was so funny to watch. At one point, Senshi is hitting one with a carrot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I imagine Yaad having the most pathetic voice as he cries for help.
Tumblr media
When reflecting on this journey, Marcille felt that everything about it was a negative experience. She's been badly injured, suffered several near and actual death experiences, and had to eat things she didn't want to eat. But she's been willing to sacrifice her safety, her wellbeing, and her palette if it meant fulfilling her dream of making all the races have the same lifespans.
But whether it was intentional or not, Laios forced her to realize something she can't sacrifice for that goal.
Tumblr media
If she wants to continue down this path, it means she will have to sacrifice her friends. And she doesn't want that. And she realizes that what she's striving for isn't actually what she wants; it's just a means to getting what she wants.
Tumblr media
The demon only uses half-measures to fulfill its master's desires. Thistle's true desire was to help the man who had grown up beside him, and the demon's actions drove a wedge between them. Mithrun's true desire was to live the same happy life his brother does, and the demon's actions locked him into being one of the Canaries. Marcille's true desire is to spend the rest of her life with the people she loves, and the demon's actions nearly made her kill one of them.
They're all completely disorganized with their messaging, but the party is getting the point across: Even bad experiences can lead to good ones, there are ways to remember someone and keep them close even after they die, and you can make treasured experiences with the people you love while they're still alive.
Tumblr media
Izutsumi is shocked and terrified that the guys ALL missed the point and instead think Marcille is concerned about eating and living healthy.
Tumblr media
Whatever. It works. Marcille loves these nimrods and wouldn't trade anything for them.
Tumblr media
SENSHI FLASH!!

So I have just started watching dungeon meshi, after interacting with fan content for quite a while, and something I’ve noticed is that the fan portrayal of Laios, Marcille, and Falin doesn’t match up with how I’ve so far seen them act in the show. And I know that there’s only been a little of Falin that I’ve seen because I’m not far in, and there are a lot of people who will have read the mangas and experienced the character development etc and will be making art and stuff off of that, but it’s still quite interesting to me. It’s almost like people have been living off of their own interpretations of the characters rather than how they really are

⭐️Get to know your mutuals⭐️
⭐️ Tagged by @elvenmoans
this took me forever to fill out i kept forgetting it in my drafts. oops😔
⭐️ What's the origin of your blog title?
blog title: ☆ ฅ^•⩊•^ฅ ☆
i was looking at a big ass list of japanese emoticons, don't even remember the specific one i was looking for, but came across this one ฅ^•⩊•^ฅ and???? hello??? its so cute???
i never know what to title my stupid blog so i just put that there because it makes me happy to see her.
⭐️ OTP(s)+ shipnames(s):
i’m on the oc shipping train rn but for regular non oc ships we got
moonsea tyrants (manshoon/ fzoul) - the forgotten realms
gideon/harrow/ianthe (any combo) - the locked tomb
farcille (falin/marcille) - dungeon meshi
durgetash (the dark urge/enver gortash) - bg3 (only default hot white dragonborn durge tho, i don’t care about any of that custom character shit)
scar/lex - AVP (i’m having my annual resurgence of this ancient fixation. it will pass soon)
⭐️ Favourite color:
black, but since a lot of ppl consider this a non answer/cop out, purple. i have a particular soft spot for ultraviolet purple.
⭐️ Song stuck in your head:
Thnks fr th Mmrs - Fall Out Boy
i heard it on the radio yesterday after not hearing it for a long time and now its stuck

⭐️ Hobbies:
mainly playing dnd right now. playing dnd and thinking about The Characters. i also write and draw sometimes. i just never finish anything. I’ve also been reading a lot more this year, which has been nice. and I do/learn math for fun, but idk if that counts as a hobby? i'm gonna count it because i do it often enough.
⭐️ If you work, what's your profession?
i got some chronic conditions during covid and was fucked up and disabled for a while in addition to being really depressed. i'm on meds now and its getting a little better but now the job market is fucked so i don't have a job job rn and i just do gig work and temp jobs when i run out of money. usually admin, tech support, tutoring, or doordash. kinda just depends on what comes up.
⭐️ If you could have any job you wish, what would it be?
tbh i kinda already had my dream job? i was a physicist doing research on planet formation. undergraduate level, but it was a paid position so technically i made it. i do hope to go back to it one day when i'm not mentally and physically fucked up, but considering the state of the world now def doesn't seem like the time. unfortunately.
⭐️ Something you're good at:
befriending cats. i’ve literally never met a cat that didn’t like me. even stray cats. i’d like to think i’m pretty good at art too.
⭐️ Something you hate:
capitalism. i also hate driving, temperatures higher than 80F, and the human head, neck, back, and nervous system. mine specifically.
⭐️ Something you collect:
pens and notebooks/office supplies. which was fine when i was in school/doing research/teaching but after??? i would have ended up in some trouble space wise if i hadn't started playing dnd lol. now i can use my stuff again for my notes/game binder :3
i also collect dnd dice sets✨
⭐️ Something you forget:
i'll forget anything that you can ask me a question about out of nowhere. my brain is never stupider than when i'm put on the spot😔

Absbsbsn I should preface this post by saying that I'm not posting about this to call people stupid or hate or anything
But now that I've caught up to the dungeon meshi anime (as someone who hasn't touched the manga yet), it makes me laugh seeing those posts about anime onlies getting blown out of the water with the "tonal shift"
Like don't get me wrong, all of those scenes in episodes like 12 and 13 are very impactful (the scene where they're trying to bring Falin back after killing the dragon especially got me)
But like, having slice of life esque stuff only to come out of nowhere with dead or horror or gore or blood is not something that just suddenly starts happening in the recent episodes.
Like...after the orcs rushed the bar in that one episode, I started rolling with the punches😂
The first episode started out with Falin being eaten by a dragon
Marcille decided to try the dog method for harvesting mandrake, and it scared me for a minute when the bat collided with the tower and we learned that Marcille heard the scream
Laois is being Laois and wondering if he can eat living armor. He tells the group the story of how he got his sword and we watch him get stabbed through and die
The crew has decided to go and trade the fresh veggies so as to not waste food, so they go into a bar and fail to make it appeal to the bar owner. The bar is suddenly rushed by orcs who start killing people
We get to see all these tidbits of Kabru's party, introducing them as characters, and then Laois and friends come across them and they're DEAD
You think "haha Chilckuck has a funny vendetta against mimics and doesn't want to end up eating one because of Senshi and Laois" and then Chilkuck gets up in the middle of night to get water only to be stuck in a puzzle room of the horror genre variety where he's trying not to get stabbed/killed via trap or killed via mimic. Marcille thinks she accidentally killed Chilchuck for not looking out for him sooner.
Senshi tells the group that he's gonna cross the water without magic and calls up is kelpie friend, Anne, who he talks to everyone about. He gets on and Anne immediately drags him into the water and tries to kill him. Marcille and Chilchuck think Senshi or Laois died or got severely hurt because of the blood that pools to the top. Senshi prepares to eat the monster he once called friend, asking to do it himself
Marcille is worrying about Senshi's hair/beard cleanliness and trying to make the water walk spell work. Chilchuck and Laois walk on the water only to find Kabru's group dead...AGAIN?
Marcille pours out some hot water after cleaning herself and then has a deadly fight with the water spirit. Laois and Senshi go with Tansu's group so he'll heal Marcille (who is incredibly weak). Kiki and Laois almost die via tentacles in the process.
The giant frog throws out Marcille's staff and Laois's weapon. During the giant frog battle, Chilchuk almost gets eaten
Okay okay I'll quit now 😂
It's just funny to me because it felt like Dungeon Meshi is focusing on the slice of life esque bits and the delicious food, but from sudden violence to serious moments it's constantly reminding the audience and characters that the dungeon is a dangerous place, that they're on a dangerous mission, and of the problems beings who live in this world deal with (racial, monetarial, societal, etc)
And I should also mention that while for a while I just kind of saw everything as a constant "slice of life punctuated randomly by the horrors", I no longer feel that way. Honestly, I think it means a lot that so many makings of of the food(s) of the episode moments come just after the characters have been through a terrifying event, and it tells us a lot about the characters by how they handle these events (whether it affects them very visibly or they just kind of smooth over it because they're used to what it's like just being in the dungeon and having to fight for their lives)

We have finished the Dungeon Meshi anime. I'll type out thoughts, but I feel like I can easily summarize as "It's really good, you should watch it." I was also asked to talk about favorite characters so like. Get ready for that one.
As a whole, Dungeon Meshi is excellent. My wife has an anecdote she likes to tell about it, where before we even watched it, I told her about the general premise and that people were talking about it and it sounded neat and I wanted to pick it up if she'd like to watch. And as happens sometimes, I get the response of "I'll probably look at my phone and just watch it in the background," which is usually "I'm not too interested but put on what you want to put on." And after the first episode she was completely invested. The show is really charming really fast.
Thing is, for as fun adventure as it starts, it does a lot seriously that lands spectacularly well. The first instance of "oh wow, this show is for real" is the well-documented living armor bit. The biology that goes into these monsters is amazing. My personal favorite is still the treasure bugs and mimics interaction, which is just incredible to me, but every time they talk about monster biology and their function it's a treat.
Exploration stuff is also really cool. There's another great post that went around talking about how this party really is more of an old-school dungeon crawler party, where skills for survival like Chilchuck's are essentially the most valuable, rather than combat ability. It does really have that feel, and it's great. I also just love how some of the magic works. Things like mana sickness are cool, but resurrection is my personal favorite. They make a big deal about the black magic kind being forbidden, but watching it in action, it functions just like the stuff that's on the level; blood pools and congeals back in the body, the black magic just involved reconstructing flesh. Marcille's point about black magic not being inherently bad is fair; it doesn't seem all that different. But perceptions are really different regarding it.
They haven't delved too far into it yet, but there are tensions between the fantasy races, and plenty of biases going around. Some are a bit more obvious, like Marcille really not trusting the orcs, while others are more like Shuro's one party member who just refers to the dwarves as just "dwarf," even as she's praising Senshi's cooking. Kabru's got his own hangups regarding how the elves handle things with the dungeons, and openly admits to the imbalance in power between races and how that negatively impacts everyone. I imagine this starts to be more prominent in the second half now that all the establishing stuff is done.
As for cast...they're really strong. Laios' group is all great, I loved them all. Marcille is my favorite, personally, because of course she is. From silly magic elf girl, to oh she's actually super smart, to oh she's super smart in ancient criminal magic fuck yeah girl. Marcille's a delight. Chilchuck was the easy least favorite of the group starting out, but he's really grown on me. Izutsumi is peak cat. Laios is really interesting as a protagonist, I like him a lot. I think the conflicts he gets into are...very real, in a way. Like, he has amazing strengths that make him great at what he's doing, but the flaws in his character inform what struggles they encounter in a really believable way. I like him a lot. Senshi is cool. Falin needs more time, and you have no idea how bummed I am that the season ended with a little snapshot that Chimera Falin and Thistle are having hijinks off-screen, I need that spinoff.
The other groups are less developed, but I'm sure Aera will be happy to hear this: god damn do I love Kabru. This dude rules. I saw people talk about him on Tumblr so I recognized him the instant he showed up, but his first "proper" introduction is stupendous, showing his general people-reading and ability to gather information, and his adherence to a sense of justice that's just as much about meting out punishment as anything else. Him killing those dudes was great, loved that. And the barely concealed excitement over black magic is hilarious. Then he gets to show off that he's basically an assassin class, knowing where to strike for instant kills, has a whole chat with Shuro about recognizing the racial discrepancy in the world at large, and tries to play an entire room full of elves. I dunno, like the guy a lot. He's shrewd, and he's got moxie. I do admit that, while I get the fandom is really attached to Laios and Kabru as a ship, I...have no strong feelings about it. I do, oddly, like him and Rin. Their dynamic in the show was fairly cute, and admittedly some supplemental material I saw posted really got me invested in her. The rest of his party...I have no particular feelings about. It's just him and Rin to me for now.
Shuro's party is even less interesting. I do like Shuro, I think he's a really neat character. But his group hasn't done anything all that interesting to me yet. They kinda showed up to get bodied by Chimera Falin and drive tension as the group that first knows about black magic.
Similar deal with Namari's group? If anything I think the old gnome dude is in the running for general least favorite character. I don't hate the guy, but he's done nothing to endear himself. I have no strong perspectives yet.
For characters that need more time in the oven, there is the question of the Canaries. I've seen a tidbit about them, but my general assumption of them is the whole "Canary in the coalmine," they're the frontliners for dungeons that are sent in and risk death to assess the threat level. Which is neat, would like to know what that deal is. But #1 most invested in learning more about is Thistle. Love that design, love the general vibe he puts out, but also the reveal that he was hired as the court jester who happened to also become the most powerful mage of the kingdom is really, really good. That's both hilarious and awesome. I don't even know this guy and I think he's the shit.
I am wildly invested in season 2, and if it weren't for me working for a school and going through summer months unpaid, I'd probably be buying the entire manga like right now. As it stands I'll have to wait a bit for that, but it's probably happening. I've seen plenty of commentary about things the anime couldn't fit in that are hilarious or interesting, and it feels like one I'd like to read as well, even if I plan to fully go through the anime. Huge fan, glad we got an immediate announcement of season 2, really looking forward to more.

Hiii!! I saw that u wrote for dungeon meshi as well! Could you write fluff with laios in a modern setting? Maybe now that’s almost summertime, could it be summer themed? Or any other that you feel like writing lol. Ty!!!🫶🫶🏼
Cautions - SPOILERS, a little bit of cursing 🤏, Chilchuck almost drowning (he's fine)
Type - drabble
Genre - fluff
Comments - YESSS, BEEN 20 MINUTES AND HERE YOU ARE 😭😭 so, this is mostly world building, BUT, laios stuff too dw. You are a mind reader lmao, I was JUST thinking about a modern au sometime today! This ended up being about the main 4 on accident, but I tried to make it mostly about Laios 😭
Modern!Laios
So, the golden kingdom is sort of how the modern world would be like, everyone is in harmony, no deaths (except old age depending on species race??), everyone has phones, internet, no more dungeons
So modern, but with a touch of fantasy, kinda like Onwards! (Such a good movie go watch it rn)
And jobs are more modern now, like Laios is a sous chef in a well known underground restaurant that's owned by a dwarf named Senshi! Chilchuck is a lockpick, then Marcille is a teacher! Falin is doing some out of state studying, wanting to keep the art of magic alive, Shuro is a fencing teacher, and Nimari does construction!
But let's focus on the main 4 😋
Laios and Chilchuck met when Laios locked himself out of his shared house with Falin several times cause he left it at work, in his car (had to pick that too cause the doors locked on him) and so that developed a small friendship (not that Chilchuck would call it that) between the two
Marcille knew Falin while they were studying magic together (like in the anime but modern) and so Marcille met Laios through her
Before Falin went away to study abroad Marcille and Laios held a going away party for her and Laios invited Chilchuck, where he may Marcille and Falin (Nimari and Shuro were there too but I'll say how they met everyone in another modern post if someone wants 🫶)
Now back to the restaurant- Laios and Senshi works at (Senshi owns it btw) Laios had always been a good cook while growing up, also taking any and all cooking classes he could while in high school
And he was amazing at it!
So good that THE Senshi, owner of the famous underground restaurant that turned monsters into FOOD, groundbreaking isn't it?? Sent him an invitation to come WORK DIRECTLY UNDER HIM
Laios had always wanted to cook monsters, and after visiting the restaurant once or twice growing up?? HELL YEAH HE WANTED TO WORK FOR SENSHI
This all happened in the span of about 7 years I suppose?
Now, summer time ⛱️
Laios definitely invites everyone to go to the beach, even his sister when she comes to visit from her studies!
And while Senshi is hesitant in leaving his restaurant (he kinda.. lives there too.) to see the beach he caves and says yes, but refuses to wear swim trunks. He looks like a barbeque dad lmao, full on Hawaiian shirt and some tan shorts, and some sandals as he's making some summer themed monster food for everyone
Marcille is the one trying to get him to wear trunks, gives up, but wears a super cute 1 piece to make herself feel better
Chilchuck is kinda in the same boat as Senshi, but wears trunks and the Hawaiian shirt, but sheds it later to go play chicken with the twins and Marcille out in the ocean while they wait for the yummy food
Marcille and Falin are going against Laios and Chilchuck!
Who won?
...the girls
Chilchuck very quickly got pushed into the water, damn near drowned cause he wasn't prepared to swim after being knocked off of Laios' shoulders by Marcille (who he was talking trash to)
But after he stopped dying and held less of a grudge with Marcille after she dried him off, Senshi finally finished the food!
It was some grilled kraken skewers with some veggies, each customized specifically to everyone :D
They all spend the rest of their time at the beach telling stories, enjoying the skewers, and having general fun lol

I started watching Dungeon meshi a few days ago (and I started the manga), and Hades 2 reawakened my fixation on the games.
(Potential spoilers for Dungeon meshi?)
So seeing the Fanart of Hades characters as Dungeon meshi characters has me gnawing on my enclosure. Falin Hypnos, my beloved.
That's said I keep thinking of an au for WMFTD where Y/n is in Falins' role and Hypnos is in Marcille.
All this boils down to dragon Y/n and necromancer Hypnos being even more obsessed devoted and in love with one another. :) (You brought me back even though the ones we love most told you not to, I came back wrong, but I know I still love you. You did the unthinkable, and now I am forever indebted to you. You are mine, and I am yours.)
As for the other characters, I think Zagreus would be Laois (brotherly bond and instead of food, his thing would be filling Achilles codex and fishing), while not fulling matching characters I think Thanatos would be in Chilchuck role, and for Senshi... I'm not sure. You could put Meg there not because she necessarily fits as Senshi but to keep her with Zagreus and Thanatos, a knight, maybe? I was thinking of putting Achilles in Senshi's place because it just seems fitting. (And the Angst potential)
But aaa, that's all for rambling. I hope you enjoyed it and have a good day!
I enjoyed your rambling! ^-^ also on mobile. sorry for mistakes.
Putting my reply under a readmore.
But yes I love that line between devotion and obsession because that line might be thinner than love/hate. Also don’t cross that stuff out! That is the goooood shit. 🤌
As for the role for people to play:
Zagreus
Zagreus as Laois fits really well, methinks. It works bc part of the reasons Zag left the house was because he felt like he didn’t fit in.
I think with Y/N getting nom on and leaving Zagreus behind would only increase that feeling of isolation for him.
especially if the others kinda blame him for what happened. ( also maybe the dragon could be a hydra? so in place of feathers, y/n ends up with those horns things? And fangs? )
Maybe Achilles’ codex could still be greek monsters along greek gods and Zagreus having his own personal one for all the different kinds of fishes and the many ways to cook them.
If it was up to Zagreus, they would eat fishes for every meal. The others veto it very quickly.
Thanatos
I actually he would be a great fit for the chilchuck role. Both of them would much rather keep work and personal life separate.
also while Thanatos can fight and fairly well, he is not a skilled/trained combatant like Meg or Y/N would be.
so letting him have a role where he focuses on overall safety and solving puzzles would really let his natural skills shine.
also since y/n isn’t a healer, it would help Hypnos to have someone who also has the skills and patience needed for healing spells.
also I think the fights between Zagreus and him about not being reckless and learning to trust the eachother could be interesting.
Megaera
She could fill in for the Namari/Shuro role. She just didn’t leave the group since she had personal reasons to want to stay ( but it could be interesting if she did leave after Y/N became a sandwich bc the whole episode with her was one of my favorite)
especially if she ends up getting her sisters to help find y/n
it would also help bc while Zagreus is learning how to fight, the lost of skills and knowledge of combat after Y/N got nibble on would be huge blow to the group.
It also possible she felt some guilt for what happened to y/n as well but still blames Zag which could have some fun tension/fights.
As for the senshi’s role, I love the idea of it being achilles, but if I may suggest another character, I think Dusa would be a good fit for the role.
She already shown to be super helpful and has skill in domestic tasks along with being an outcast. Like the group find her and she ends up helping out by showing Zagreus how to de-bone and cook the many different fishes. Along with dealing various monster and gods since she lived in the dungeon for so long.
She would also be a friend of Zagreus while being a neutral third party, something the group desperately needs.
Achilles just wouldn’t be able to stay calm or listen if he lost his son. He would likely get everyone killed along with himself before saving Y/N. Especially if Pat is no longer in the picture.
So maybe…
Tall man Pat and Achilles adopted little Y/N, who might have elf or something else in him but no one knows for sure. As y/n get a little older, his parents began working in the dungeon together, leaving him with Persephone and baby zag. Y/n would start studying fighting skills so he could join his parents sooner.
Something happened, monster or demon and it left Y/n alone with baby Zag, hiding until his parents found them.
So Patroclus and Achilles takes Zag in and they grow up as brothers.
Somethings happened to Patroclus and Achilles, the only thing found of them were ruined gear along with Achilles’ bloody and torn codex. maybe that was part of the reasons the brothers decided to go down there. To try get some answers.
I think hypnos would be unsure at first but seeing the deep pain Y/N’s eyes would make him agree. Also only because hypnos totally thought Y/N as a great friend, nothing more. Nope. He definitely doesn’t get jealous when he caught Meg staring at Y/N a few times.
and he totally doesn’t cozy up to y/n whenever he got cold in the dungeon. Or share more snacks with y/n or fuss over Y/N more when he is doing the healing magic.
They formed the group and everything seemed to be going well.
Then y/n became an ‘all you can eat special’ and the journey began.
And like Hypnos might be going a little crazy bc he just lost his best friend, someone he knew as a boy then as a man and he just really wanted his best friend back. That was all.
Then they finally got y/n back and hypnos knew he was being clingy but y/n didn’t to mind, even letting hypnos hold on to him for far longer than appropriate and hypnos just didn’t want to let go. Maybe they share quiet, gentle kisses when alone together, promising to talk more when they got out of the dungeon.
Then shit goes sideway.
Hydra!y/n is huge, powerful, quick moving and terrifying. With dozens of little hydra following him around. ( kinda like the harpies kinda did with Falin.)
But he seemed to recognize Hypnos, he touched Hypnos’ chin like he did before they shared those kisses. And he was able to say Zagreus’ name.
Also lol imagine poor hypnos during that shirt ripping part with y/n.
So Hypnos can totally bring Y/N back to normal. Totally. He is not crying thank you very much. No, he didn’t want a tissue, Dusa but thank you.
And yeah lol. Thanks for letting me ramble lol.

I like thinking about a dungeon meshi/bg3 crossover for many reasons, but one of them is the mental image of post-canon Laios and Raphael in the same room.
Because Laios would, in all honesty, reek of demon. Just be fucking soaked in that vibe. Both for eating part of one, and the potent death curse.
Raphael being a devil would have some deeply 'ah, i see. hm' moments watching the group up to that point i think, because approaching anything to do with demons in dnd is basically an exercise in 'how fast do you wish to die'. Because in the abyss connected to the hells there, all demons want is chaos and destruction and generally horrific things that only get worse when they get past the whole 'getting out of the abyss' thing. One cursing you would imply a few things, though, and mostly the fact Laios is not a smear on the ground someplace means he was too strong to immediately kill.
Add in that in dungeon meshi, the mana used for magic is very much a 'from the demon or spirits' thing-- Falin and Marcille are gonna be also giving off Vibes.
AND THEN Add in the curse that monsters would never again willingly be around Laios, and you get a delightful moment of "ok so what does that do in faerun"
I'm running with the assumption that the curse source is far enough removed on the prime material plane that it simply gives non-thinking beings [aside animals] the willies, even if they can't tell where it's coming from.
All of which to say please imagine Raphael gritting his teeth through the worst anxiety attack a devil has ever felt while having He Who Devours All Things Horrible in his house.
Also Astarion having the weirdest case of the jitters around Laios. Not enough to throw him off, and he'd really only ID it as directly being a Laios thing AFTER Cazador is dead, but just enough to make him a little jumpy.
Tangentally related, Falin is basically a cleric. She has no god that we know of. She is just monster enough to be weird if someone sees her feathers. Shadowheart is gonna be sitting there mentally wracking her wiped brain trying to come up with whomst the fuck she belongs to.
Gale and Marcille talk about magic. This would actually go well because they're both nerds, but it WOULD end in her testing out fireball by ordering the weave to do something and Gale would be gobsmacked when it works.
Iztsumi, everyone just assumes she's a catfolk. The timeskip just meant she matured a little hanging around the castle, but she absolutely spends hours talking shit at the party. Shadowheart and her get along on snark, same with Lae'zel, but iztsumi is just like "can you guys stop bitching at one another, we were having a fun talk gdi"
Chilchuck is an old man at this point [35]. Well, more specifically he's gone grey and gained weight now that his whole deal is "run shop and visit Laios on occasion". Routinely roasts Astarion for not being handy enough with traps/locks. AKA Astarion missed 1 trap and Chilchuck has not let him live it down. It doesn't help that Astarion will just point them out, not do much about them on his own. He and Iztsumi put the poor guy through rogue bootcamp and he does not enjoy it at all. Chilchuck, though, mostly stays at camp to keep an eye on their stuff.
Also please imagine Gale being dragged through the forest to help collect forage with Senshi and ending up terribly bedraggled because the dwarf got very excited about similarities of some plants over the differences in others.

Dungeon Meshi Adventurer's Bible Preface
Before I get started on reading the Adventurer's Bible, I want to talk about this image that appears before the Table of Contents
Tumblr media
You really need to zoom in to see everything going on and there is a lot of stuff going on.
Some things I spotted:
Marcille and Falin are shopping for magic supplies together.
Shuro is outside the store Marcille and Falin are in and he's carrying a flower.
There are some people moving a cart full of dead goats (Likely to perform a resurrection)
The Island Lord is walking around town
Two guys are fighting over a girl
There's an actual chainmail bikini in the armor shop
Maizuru is following Shuro around
Izutsumi is getting into an angry staring contest with a cat
The rest of Shuro's party is eating at the tavern
The corpse retrievers are doing some back-alley dealings
Those newbie adventurers from chapter 1 are being chased by a walking mushroom again
Chilchuck is walking around the first floor with a list
There's a burrow in the first floor wall with a giant scorpion
Doni and Fionil's party has been wiped out by a basilisk
There's a hand sticking out of the man-eating plant
Several bats are inside the hollow in the tree
Kabru, Kuro, and Mikbell are fighting one of the golems Senshi uses. It has a leek sticking out of its head.
Daya found a treasure chest with a mimic in it
One group of orcs is attacking adventurers while another group of orcs is fleeing from zombies
The Tansu party encountered the Living Armor group after Laios's party killed the nest guardian. One armor is approaching them from behind
Senshi is fishing on the fourth floor and Anne is with him
A mermaid and fishman are floating next to and staring at each other
Leed is playing fetch with some wargs
Things are watching the orcs in their camp
Laios is looking at several paintings and Thistle is watching him
Now onto the general plan I'm going to do for this.
There's an official English translation of the first version which seems to give information up to volume 10.
I haven't found a fully translated version of the complete version, but I have found an untranslated scan of the book and a collection of translations of the new pages that were added to it. So my plan is to read both the translated first version and the untranslated second version side-by-side, note whatever differences I can (I can't read Japanese so don't expect anything crazy) and jump to the translations I have whenever I hit a page not in the first edition.
The Adventurer's Bible is broken into three chapters: Characters, Monsters, and World. Characters and World are both quite large and I expect it will take anywhere from 5 to 10 posts to cover each chapter.
I'm going to post as I'm able to. And I'll definitely be updating the index for this as I get through it because I have no idea how many posts this will take to finish.
