headcanon that Odysseus, Polites, and Eurylochus have matching friendship bracelets braided from the mane hair of Athena’s boar: HELL YEAH
#What if Eury does rip off Polites’ bracelet and throw his own into the sea in mutiny. Well what if in Love in Paradise they give them back#What if Polites takes off his ghostly copy of his bracelet and gives it to Odysseus while he holds him back from jumping?#What if Eury watches this happen and mourns that he tore his off#that it rests in Poseidon’s domain at the bottom of the sea now#but instead he gives Odysseus his pauldron for protection?#Something similar to that happens in SUtE thanks to Hermes but#what if it’s intentional that time? What if Calypso wonders where he suddenly got the translucent bracelet and the armor as they materializ#he refuses to tell her#what if the two pieces float? What if in GITW they’re subtly tugging him up- not enough to counter Posiedon’s trident#but they certainly help drag him up after Eurylochus adjusts the pauldron and Polites tightens the bracelet for the battle(s) to come#What if one suitor tries to slash Odysseus in the shoulder- but the pauldron protects him?#What if one suitor tries to grab Odysseus by the wrist from the darkness- but for some reason he can’t get a good grip?#And yet both of the items allow Telemachus#and then Penelope#to grasp and to hold him#checkmate
