Summary: Andrey Rublev trying to get reader to go on a date.
Warnings: body conscious conversation, no smut but suggestive
“Andrey you are a twig,” y/n stated as you held his wrists in your hands as the tall lanky boy looked at you in shock.
“Am not, I am very toned” Andrey stated releasing his wrists from your grip to flex his biceps. Which made areas of your body tremble but you knew he wasn’t wrong.
All that played in your mind, was the battering you would receive from the media about not being one of those ‘twig bitch models’ he usually went for.
“Fine you are not. Now leave me alone please,” you said walking away from him trying to exit the players lounge only for him to rush in front and stop you from leaving.
“Y/N, you have been making excuses for why you can’t be with me! Why is that?” You sighed at his words. It was something he would never understand actually you thought.
“Because your not my type.” Y/N simply said, because it was easier this than to have to explain how you really felt.
“If thats so then why do you look at me as if you want to undress me?” He said getting closer and you were taken aback. You hadn’t realised Andrey had noticed your occasional glances but how could he not it’s not like you tired to hide it very well anyway.
Stammers and mutterings of words flowed out of your mouth but nothing to form coherent sentences.
“Its just dinner Y/N” he said looking at you as his hand gently caresses your cheekbones.
“No” you said again making herself clear and then leaving but once again only to be pulled back. Y/N let out a sigh of frustration as you once again you were faced with Andrey’s handsome face.
“I’m not letting you go,” he said this time his strong hands firmly placed on your waist holding you still right in front of him. He didn’t care who saw them at this point as players were just squeezing past the two of them trying to enter and exit the lounge. He wasn’t dropping the subject till you explained yourself.
“I am fat okay and I don’t want to go on a date with you because the media will rip me to shreds for not being thin and beautiful like all the models you go for!” You said eyes welling up a little. Andrey squeezed your sides tighter shaking his head before looking you in your beautiful eyes.
“Thats crazy. You are not fat you are cruvy in all the right places Y/N and I love it,” Andrey said letting his hand roam from your waist to your hips then butt which made blush, “ I don’t care what they think about you and you shouldn’t either and if they want to say stuff about the way you look I’ll put them in their place.” You smiled at his words and he leant in to kiss her but she stopped him by placing a finger on his lips just separating them.
“Okay, I will go to dinner only if you are sure that you want to date a poc, curvy woman,” you said looking him dead in the eyes.
“Oh I am sure. The things I would kill do to you right now,” he said whisperig the last part lustfully into your ear sending a warm an fuzzy feeling below your stomach.
You removed your finger slowly making sure to look him in the eye then gently placed your lips on his.

Medic fav movies: -A zed and two noughts -dr mabuse the gambler + the testament of dr mabuse. And Metropolis while we're at it. Easy to say but. I do think he has a healthy appreciation for fritz lang -On a similar note: loves the original cabinet of dr caligari and also the weird 60s remake of it that you can't find anywhere with equal fervor -Experiment in terror -Decoder (1984) like as in the throbbing gristle movie -World on a wire Knowledgeable on film and has interests that range far and wide but is generally pretty reserved regarding it. Will watch all sorts of shit with Heavy and occasionally Engineer when the time is right but I think for the most part when the suggestion to watch a movie comes up he just tries to convince everyone to watch like pimple popping compilations
Heavy fav movies: -Also really easy to say but Stalker bc cmon. And Mirror, Solaris, Andrei Rublev, etc -The Ascent (1977) -Welcome or no trespassing (1964). -Underground (1995) -The like 4 different war and peace movies by sergey bondarchuk -And yknow what I think he'd fucking love Farewell my concubine and I feel very assured in this
Spy fav movies: -Purple Noon -- I think he has reasonably seen/read and enjoyed other works related to tom ripley but this is the only one I'm certain about. Like cmon now. -The red shoes -The discreet charm of the bourgeoisie LOL -Les Vampires AND Irma Vep -General hitchcock fan and I think his fav movie of his is Rope. Like. Ok. I'm sorry. But it has to be this way -The taking of pelham 123 the seventies one -Fucking reservoir dogs, somehow. Bonds with scout over this He WILL look down on everyone else for their choices of favorite Hitchcock movies even if he likes them too (he does, generally) because he thinks everyone else's reasons for liking what they do are worse than his. gets really distracted and upset thinking about this
Scout fav movies: -DRIVE -PULP FICTION -FIGHT CLUB -RESERVOIR DOGS AGAIN -AMERICAN PSYCHO -SHAUN OF THE DEAD (bonds with Spy over this one too. Spy goes like ''the editing of this is nauseating and the characters are unpleasant'' but as they continue watching they both get like, really sad and guilty. spy moreso. i havent seen shaun of the dead)
Demoman: I think that at some point when he was a TEEN his mom was like. Cmon lad. You haven't got any hobbies. You're wasting away here. So he found time in between his like 3-5 jobs to take a theater class at a high school he did not go to and they just let him until his CURSED EYE started wreaking havoc on the place. He never pursued his dreams of theater again but I imagine he loves wtaching like, shakespeare adaption movies and thinking about how he would have done a better job. -likes chimes at midnight, othello, and hamlet from orson welles -ran+othello+the bad sleep well -Conversely also really fucking loves like. Steel magnolias. and fried green tomatoes and shit -All time favorite movie is Muriel's Wedding for some reason
Sniper: -Genuinely, earnestly. Loves crocodile dundee with all his heart. And at some point someone else who he'd been in a spat with puts it on in hopes it would offend him but it makes him cry. from joy. because he loves it -Similar feelings towards mad max. watches it and goes like. oh god. this is just like my life -Fav hitchcock is vertigo -Fistful of dollars trilogy (bonds with engie over this) + once upon a time in the west -Fucking. Butch cassidy and the sundance kid LOL -Seven samurai and also like literally every movie that could be considered a remake of it in some form regardless of quality -Night/Dawn/Day of the dead. AND return of the living dead and furthermore the completely unrelated City of the living dead
Engineer movies: -Shares in the sergio leone appreciation with sniper. Likes once upon a time in america, but not once upon a time in the west, which is the opposite of how sniper feels -Touch of evil -One flew over the cuckoo's nest -My darling clementine -David and lisa -The swimmer
Soldier owns two movies, which are: -A version of American Sniper cut down to like 20 minutes and dubbed over with weird fucked up voices but he thinks it's the original and he loves it. He thinks it's beautiful and it makes him cry -An incomplete VHS recording of dr strangelove including television commercials that just has clips from the very beginning and end. This one also makes him cry
Pyro: Has seen every single movie mentioned here and thinks they are all beautiful. Also has a tape of the wicker man that is in such horrendous quality that it's rendered completely unintelligible to anyone else. They like to watch the end
Not meant to be a modern setting or anything I'm just choosing to believe that the existence of australium led to a domino effect ending with every single movie on this list that otherwise wouldn't exist yet being made in the 1960s with no changes. And VHS tapes and DVDs are both part of a lucrative enterprise that will never die

One of the most iconic filmmakers of all time, Andrei Tarkovsky was known for his philosophical themes and lazily-paced long takes, among other memorable tropes. All through his career, the Russian auteur had experimented with several genres, ranging from sci-fi (Stalker, Solaris) to war drama (Ivan's Childhood).
RELATED: Andrey Zvyagintsev & 9 Other Modern Russian Directors Every Movie Fan Should Check Out
His approach towards filmmaking lay heavy emphasis on 'sculpting in time' as Tarkovsky believed that a major motive of cinema is to alter the notions of time. With minimal cuts and long takes, his films succeeded at not looking like different shots arranged in one sequence. Rather, his narratives convey the idea of the passage of time in a seemingly realistic rhythm.
10 There Will Be No Leave Today (1959) - 6.5
Tumblr media
Back in the late 1950s, film students Aleksandr Gordon and Andrei Tarkovsky directed this 47-minute-long war drama that recounted an actual incident from Russian history. There Will Be No Leave Today is set in a small Russian town that faces the threat of unexploded bombs from the Second World War. Hence, an army unit is tasked with evacuating the town and safely detonating these bombs.
After being broadcast on Soviet TV in 1959, the student film was then recovered in the 1990s. It offers an early glimpse at Tarkovsky's budding talent at showcasing human emotions and building atmospheric tension.
9 Voyage In Time (1983) - 7.3
Tumblr media
The only documentary directed by Tarkovsky, Voyage in Time focused on his travels in Italy with screenwriter/co-director Tonino Guerra as they prepared to shoot the former's drama feature Nostalghia.
Voyage In Time serves as an interesting peek into Tarkovsky's psyche as a filmmaker and as a person as he and Guerra delve into philosophical matters among their usual conversations on cinema. Further, the director also touches upon his other influences that include Federico Fellini, Jean Vigo, and several others.
8 The Steamroller And The Violin (1961) - 7.4
Tumblr media
The Steamroller And The Violin was Tarkovsky's third diploma film during his student days at State Institute of Cinematography, Moscow. It happens to one of his most emotion-driven films as it explores the friendship between a young violinist (Igor Fomchenko) and an aging steamroller operator (Vladimir Zamansky).

Facing a general sense of isolation from society, both friends spend their evenings talking to each other about their day-to-day activities. While the boy usually plays his violin, the old man delves into his past telling his friend stories from the War.
7 Mirror (1975) - 8.1
Tumblr media
For some cinephiles, Mirror would possibly be Tarkovsky's most enigmatic film largely due to its free-flowing non-linear structure and a sense of storytelling that would resemble the 'stream of consciousness' style of writing (popularized by James Joyce and Virginia Woolf).
In its essence, the film recalls a dying poet's final days as he remembers his life and remnants of Soviet history and society. There's a lot to interpret in Mirror easily making it a film worth multiple viewings. While Tarkovsky authored the screenplay, the film heavily incorporates poems written and recited by his father Arseny Tarkovsky.
6 Solaris (1972) - 8.1
Tumblr media
Solaris, along with classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey, can largely be credited in ushering in an age of introspective, thoughtful space sci-fi that focused on human themes rather than just a fascination for the extraterrestrial. Solaris revolves around a space station inhabited by a crew displaying bizarre emotional traits, that are further analyzed by psychologist Kris Kelvin (Donatas Banionis) when he arrives at the station.

Solaris won the Grand Prix at Cannes and established Tarkovsky as a visionary in sci-fi cinema. Many of his ideas would be further explored in Stalker.
5 Stalker (1979) - 8.1
Tumblr media
Just like Solaris, Stalker is a sci-fi tale rooted in philosophical questions. Even though it drew mixed reviews initially, it is yet again regarded as one of the finest sci-fi films today.
Alexander Kaidanovsky plays the ominous 'Stalker,' a man entrusted with transporting people to the 'Zone.' This so-called 'Zone' is a region where anyone's innermost desires can be fulfilled. Despite its thoughtful musings, the film also brims with a thriller-like aura that would keep audiences guessing about the actual nature of the grim, distant future of Stalker.
4 Andrei Rublev (1966) - 8.1
Tumblr media
Even though Andrei Rublev is set in medieval Russia, its dominant theme of artistic freedom is very much relevant in present times. The titular personality (Anatoly Solonitsyn) is an iconographer who opposes an oppressive regime while pursuing his art. For its direct jabs at authoritarian states all over the world, Andrei Rublev either faced censorship or a total ban in its initial run.

Apart from serving as a fictionalized biopic of its protagonist, Tarkovsky's sophomore feature film was a bold case study of Russian society in the fifteenth century, an era characterized by religious power struggles and the eventual transition to Tsardom.
3 The Sacrifice (1986) - 8.1
Tumblr media
Offret aka The Sacrifice was Tarkovsky's final directorial effort before he succumbed to terminal lung cancer. The film can be described as magical realism at its finest as it centers around a heavily nuanced take on humanity and religion. In order to stop an impending nuclear holocaust, an intellectual attempts to negotiate with God, a deal that would require a 'sacrifice.'
Opening to rave reviews, the Swedish-language film earned Tarkovsky his second Grand Prix at Cannes along with a BAFTA for Best Film Not In The English Language.
2 Nostalghia (1982) - 8.1
Tumblr media
Nostalghia (alternatively released as Nostalgia) was Tarkovsky's first film shot outside the Soviet Union, incorporating some of his own notions of homesickness. It stars Oleg Yankovsky as a writer studying the life of a Russian composer who spent his final days in Italy. While exploring the Italian countryside, he himself goes through bouts of isolation and displacement.
The autobiographical nature in Nostalghia is clear to see with the narrative further adorned with memorable Tarkovsky elements like dream sequences and a hopeless protagonist.
1 Ivan's Childhood (1962) - 8.1
Tumblr media
Barring his student films, Ivan's Childhood marked Andrei Tarkovsky's full-fledged directorial debut, going down in cinematic history as one of the best first films ever.
The movie endures as a brilliant example of expressing the human cost of war as it studies wartime trauma from the eyes of an orphaned boy Ivan (Nikolai Burlyayev). Losing his parents to German forces, Ivan struggles to survive as the Second World War rages on affecting both sides of the conflict. A hard-hitting feature, it boldly proclaimed its director's anti-war sentiments.
