HARTFORD WOLF PACK TEAM BUILDING CONTINUES
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The always difficult off-season of team preparation work for the entire New York Rangers organization, including the Hartford Wolf Pack, continues. The Rangers signed undrafted left-winger Sahil Panwar on Monday. The 6’0, 195-pounder was inked to a one-year AHL standard player contract and will start training camp in Hart City. Sahil, in the Hindu dialect, means "leader." He is the second South Asian background player the Wolf Paack have had on their roster. The first is now the assistant coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Manny Malhotra. Panwar, 21, just finished his junior career in the OHL. He played in 68 OHL games last season. He appeared in his first 34 games with the Peterborough Petes, registering 17 points with 10 goals, and was future Wolf Pack Brennan Othmann's teammate. Then, following a trade to the Hamilton Bulldogs, a former AHL city (just relocated to Brantford because of arena renovations next season), Panwar skated in 34 games and registered 52 points with 21 goals. He was named OHL Player of the Week twice. The first came from January 23rd through the 29th and then again from March 6th through the 12th. In 199 career OHL games between the Bulldogs, Petes, Flint (MI) Firebirds, and London Knights, Panwar amassed 124 points with 54 goals with 70 assists. The native of Mississauga, Ontario, migrated all over North America because of his father’s job. Panwar first was in Montreal, then San Jose, and then headed to Southern California. While there, he played in the LA Jr. Kings U-14/U-16 teams under the guidance of former Wolf Pack great Derek Armstrong. He played with Quinn and Blake Emerson, the twin sons of ex-Hartford Whaler Nelson Emerson. The Henderson Silver Knights, Brendan Bisson, skated with Panwar, who has a younger brother Jordan, an incoming freshman at Colorado College (NCHC). Both are sons of NHL player agent Pat Bisson, a coach, and founder of organized hockey in Southern California. Calgary Wranglers (AHL) goalie Dustin Wolf, last year’s regular season Les Cunningham MVP, was with them as well. Panwar had just three points with two goals in four OHL playoff games with the Bulldogs. A year ago, he had 19 playoff games with the Firebirds with seven points, his only other junior playoff experience. He also recently attended the New York Rangers 2023 Development Camp as a free-agent invitee. Panwar was a depth signee who will likely be sent to the Rangers' organizations' newly announced Double AA affiliate, the Cincinnati (OH) Cyclones. As of now, the team has 24 roster spots allocated. Three more players have signed overseas, making it a total of 48. Sam Anas, formerly of Quinnipiac University (ECACHL), the defending national collegiate champions from the Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears, signs with Dynamo Minsk (Belarus-KHL). Andy Andreoff and his 37 goals leave the Bridgeport Islanders to sign with Sibir Novosibirsk (Russia-KHL). Three of the last four AHL European signees were with Russian-based KHL teams. The ongoing war of unprovoked aggression/invasion of Ukraine, human rights violations galore and state-sanctioned kidnapping and mysterious deaths occur, was supposed to be off-limits by the NHL and, by extension, the AHL, but evidently, not so much. Another signee to Belarus is ex-Pack Kodie Curran, who leaves Metallurg Magnitgorsk (Russia-KHL) signs with Dynamo Minsk. Zach Fucale was another member of the Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears, joining recent signee ex-Pack/Ranger Vitali Kravtsov and goalie ex-Pack Adam Húska, who Torpedo Novgorod just re-signed. Ex-Pack Ryan Sproul re-signs for a fifth year with Kunlun Red Star (China-KHL) and will likely play for their national team at the World Championship. Rearguard Logan Day, a very solid performer in Hershey’s championship Calder Cup run, is talking with AHL and KHL teams but will very likely re-sign with the Bears. One Bridgeport Islander forward is likely to play with the independent Chicago Wolves. Chis Terry, as well as another ex-Pack captain, and UCONN Husky (AHA) Cole Schneider, who was also last year’s captain in Milwaukee with the Admirals, heads down I-70. At its recent annual league meeting, the ECHL mandated a 32-team league to meet the NHL (long sought-after) equilibrium of 32 teams at the NHL, AHL, and ECHL levels. They were looking at Athens, GA, and another unnamed market. The league announced its 29th franchise with majority owners of Tim Tebow, the former football and baseball player, and Hodges Management Group, LLC., CEO David Hodges. They will play in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, beginning in the 2024-25 season. The yet unnamed team will play at the brand-new Blue Event Center in the South Lake Tahoe District and will help ECHL teams in the Mountain Division, Idaho (Boise), Utah (Salt Lake City), Allen (TX), Kansas City (MO), Wichita (KS), Rapid City (SD) and Tulsa (OK). The NHL affiliation will be announced in February 2024. Tebow has been involved with ECHL as a minority owner with the Jacksonville Icemen, the former Double AA affiliate of the Rangers/Wolf Pack, and the Savannah (GA) Ghost Pirates under the aegis of Zawyer Sports and Entertainment, the operating company for all three entities. Tebow's athletic history dates back to high school when he won the Florida HS Class 4A title in 2005.  He went on to Florida to play Division I football, where as a sophomore, he won the Heisman Trophy in 2007. He won National titles in 2006 and 2008 and was voted into the College Football Hall-of-Fame in January. Despite being a first-round draft choice, he had a short NFL career, and he never fit the scout's pre-conceived parameters. All he did was throw touchdowns. His pro career highlight came as a Denver Bronco. It was the first play in the OT win over Pittsburgh when he completed an 80-yard pass play-and-catch-plays to Demaryius Thomas for a 29-23 win on January 8, 2012. Tebow had unsuccessful tryouts with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets. Like Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson before him, he tried his hand at baseball. His inability to hit a curveball derailed his attempt to play in the major leagues. His minor pro ball career lasted five years. He played in the Mets' system, making it as high as their Double AA Eastern League team in Binghamton, and played against the Hartford Yard Goats. He ended his career at the Triple AAA level in Syracuse in 2021. He is one of the owners of the USL (United Soccer League) Jacksonville franchise. HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

HARTFORD WOLF PACK VS BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS - PLAYOFFS ON THE LINE
Tumblr media
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack conclude a brief two-game homestand tonight as they welcome the rival Bridgeport Islanders to town for a crucial matchup in the Atlantic Division. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m., and coverage is available on both AHLTV and Mixlr. Tale of The Tape: This is the season's 12th and final meeting between the Wolf Pack and Islanders. It’s the sixth and final time that the sides will meet at the XL Center in downtown Hartford. The Wolf Pack won their fourth consecutive head-to-head matchup on March 29th, taking a 4-1 decision in Hartford. Paul Thompson opened the scoring for the Islanders 13:07 into the game, but the Isles would not solve Louis Domingue again. Jonny Brodzinski tied the game at 2:10 of the second period, firing home a shot on a two-on-one for his 19th goal of the season. Jake Leschyshyn then gave Hartford the lead for good at 9:49, sneaking a shot through Cory Schneider on the short side while on the powerplay. Karl Henriksson tipped home a point shot from Brandon Scanlin at 17:02 to make it a 3-1 game, allowing Hartford to pull away for good. Domingue made 16 saves in the third period, while Brodzinski scored his 20th goal of the season at 17:57, hitting an empty net. The win was Hartford’s fourth in a row in the season series, giving them a 6-5-0-0 record. The Islanders are 5-6-0-0 head-to-head. The Wolf Pack was 3-2-0-0 in the five prior meetings in Hartford. Brodzinski scored two goals in the last four meetings against the Islanders. Wolf Pack Outlook: The Wolf Pack won their fifth straight game on Wednesday night, knocking off the Toronto Marlies 2-1 in overtime. After going the first 58:48 without a goal, both teams struck in the final 72 seconds of regulation time. First, Anton Blidh jammed home a rebound at 18:48 of the third period for his 12th goal of the season, putting Hartford ahead 1-0. With the net empty, however, the Marlies would find the equalizer at 19:47, 59 seconds later. Topi Niemelä fired a shot through traffic that found the back of the net for his first career AHL goal. In overtime, Hartford got revenge for a March 11th loss when Leschyshyn pounced on a rebound at 1:42 to push the Wolf Pack to victory. Domingue made 30 saves for his seventh straight win. That marks the longest winning streak by a Wolf Pack goaltender this season. He now has 20 victories in his first season with the Wolf Pack. Hartford’s current five-game winning streak is their first since a seven-game winning streak during the 2020-21 season. The club has won three in a row at home, tying their longest home winning streak of the season. Brodzinski leads the Wolf Pack in points with 46 (21 g, 25 a) in 44 games. Will Cuylle, meanwhile, leads the team in goals with 24. Islanders Outlook: The Islanders are coming off an overtime win of their own, beating the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-3 on Tuesday morning at home. Thompson and Jeff Kubiak gave the Isles an early 2-0 lead, scoring at 2:30 and 12:03 of the first, respectively. The T-Birds would score three unanswered from there, though, with Dmitrii Samorukov getting them started at 2:02 of the second period. Nikita Alexandrov would tie the game at 1:24 of the third period, while Keean Washkurak put them ahead at 2:52. The Isles responded at 14:25, however, with Chris Terry scoring to force overtime. In overtime, Andy Andreoff came down the left wing side and ripped home the winner 3:41 in to keep the Islanders alive in the playoff race. Terry leads the Islanders in scoring with 67 points (23 g, 44 a) in 62 games. Andreoff, meanwhile, leads the team in goals with 33. He sits second in the AHL in goals behind only Calgary’s Matthew Phillips, who has 34 on the season. By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack  HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack return home to kickstart a brief two-game homestand this evening when they welcome the Bridgeport Islanders to town for a vital game in the Atlantic Division playoff chase. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m., and coverage is available on both AHLTV and Mixlr.  Tale of The Tape: This is the eleventh of twelve meetings between the Wolf Pack and the Islanders this season. It is the fifth of six meetings between the foes at the XL Center in downtown Hartford. The sides will wrap up the season series in Hartford on Friday, April 7th. The Wolf Pack have won three in a row in the season series, most recently taking a 3-2 decision in Bridgeport on March 18th. Cole Bardreau opened the scoring 58 seconds in, snapping the night's first shot into the net for his 15th goal of the season. However, Hartford did all their damage in the middle frame, taking over the tilt for good. Jonny Brodzinski tied the affair with a powerplay goal 29 seconds in, then Ryan Carpenter gave Hartford the lead for good at 7:54, taking a centering pass from Tim Gettinger off a turnover deep in the Islander zone. Brodzinski finished the period with the eventual game-winner at 17:06, scoring his second of the night on a breakaway. Ruslan Iskhakov drew the Isles within one at 1:58 of the third period, but the Wolf Pack killed three penalties in the final at 16:41 and skated off with the two points. Hartford also won the last meeting at the XL Center by a margin of 7-5 on March 15th. As a result, both sides enter tonight's tilt with a 5-5-0-0 record head-to-head. Wolf Pack Outlook: The Wolf Pack got back into the win column with a 5-1 defeat of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday in Pennsylvania. Zac Jones scored just 16 seconds in, snapping a shot from the left-wing circle that put Hartford ahead for good. Anton Blidh tacked on an insurance goal at 10:27 of the second period, while Turner Elson hit the empty net at 19:24. Louis Domingue made 27 saves for his fourth consecutive victory. It is his longest winning streak of the season. Brodzinski has thrived against the Islanders as of late. The captain scored two goals in Hartford's last three meetings with the Islanders. That includes a four-point performance (2 g, 2 a) on March 4th in a 9-0 victory at Bridgeport. Brodzinski (18 g, 23 a) and Will Cuylle (24 g, 17 a) are tied for the team lead in scoring with 41 points each. Cuylle's 24 goals are tops on the club in that category.  Islanders Outlook: The Islanders won last time out, notching their second straight victory via a 5-2 decision over the Belleville Senators on Friday night. Maxence Guenette and Erik Brown traded first-period goals, sending the clubs to the middle stanza deadlocked 1-1. Iskhakov broke the tie just 86 seconds into the second period, giving the Isles the lead for good. Arnaud Durandeau popped home the game-winner at 9:11, making it 3-1. Durandeau scored his second of the night into an empty net in the third period, while Andy Andreoff also found the twine in the final frame. Chris Terry leads the Islanders in scoring with 62 points (19 g, 43 a) on the season. Andreoff, meanwhile, is tops on the club in goals with 31. HARTFORD WOLF PACK TAKES ON BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS
Tumblr media
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack hit the road intending to shake off a tough loss on Friday night. Tonight, the Wolf Pack make the trek south to battle their Connecticut rivals, the Bridgeport Islanders. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m., and coverage is available on both AHLTV and Mixlr.  Tale of The Tape: This season, this is the tenth of twelve meetings between the Wolf Pack and the Islanders. It is the final meeting of the season at Total Mortgage Arena. The sides wrap their season series up with two games at the XL Center on March 29th and April 7th. On Wednesday night, the Wolf Pack snapped a two-game home losing streak against the Islanders with a 7-5 comeback victory at the XL Center. The Islanders jumped out to a 3-1 lead on goals from Ruslan Iskhakov, Kyle MacLean, and Andy Andreoff, finding twine on their first three shots of the night. Will Cuylle had Hartford's lone goal in that span, then Lauri Pajuniemi gave the home team life with a goal at 14:39. Jonny Brodzinski tied the game at 1:26 of the second period, scoring from a sharp angle. William Dufour put the Isles back on top at 7:33, making it a 4-3 game with his shot from the point. That score would be after two periods, but the Wolf Pack would not be deterred. Ryan Carpenter tied the affair 99 seconds into the final frame, then Tim Gettinger put the Pack ahead at 6:15. Brodzinski blasted home his second goal of the night at 12:59, making it 6-4. Tanner Fritz hit the empty net at 17:08 before Collin Adams scored at 19:10 to make things slightly tighter. The Wolf Pack are 4-5-0-0 against the Islanders this season and 2-3-0-0 at Total Mortgage Arena. However, Hartford has won their last two trips to Bridgeport, outscoring the Islanders 16-3 in the process. They took a 9-0 decision in their previous visit on March 4th and won 7-3 on December 27th. Wolf Pack Outlook: The Wolf Pack lost in regulation for the second time all season when leading after two periods of play on Friday night, falling 4-2 to the Springfield Thunderbirds. Anton Blidh and Will Cuylle scored in the game's opening minutes, with Blidh lighting the lamp at 4:32 and Cuylle at 5:55. Hartford would take that lead to both the first and second intermissions before hitting a speed bump in the final frame. Will Bitten scored twice, at 6:21 and 11:41, to tie the game 2-2. Martin Frk then gave the Thunderbirds the lead for good at 14:39, blasting a shot home on the club's third powerplay. Bitten completed the hat trick at 18:47, hitting the empty net. It was Hartford's second loss in three games in regulation at home when leading by two or more goals after two periods of play. Cuylle leads the Wolf Pack in scoring with 37 points (21 g, 16 a) on the campaign. In addition, his 21 goals pace the club in that category. Islanders Outlook: The Islanders bounced back convincingly last night, handing the Syracuse Crunch a 5-2 result at Total Mortgage Arena. Trevor Carrick scored 3:04 into the game, lighting the lamp on the powerplay to put the Crunch ahead 1-0 after one. The Isles exploded for three goals in the second period, taking a lead they'd hold for the rest of the night. Andreoff scored twice, hitting twine at 10:05 to tie the game and again at 18:09 to pot the eventual winner. Adams also scored in the period, nabbing his second goal in as many games at 13:56. Chris Terry tacked on an insurance marker at 5:24 before Rudolfs Balcers scored Syracuse's second powerplay goal of the night at 17:01. Any drama would be neutralized when Andreoff completed the hat trick with an empty net goal at 17:29. Terry leads the Islanders in scoring with 60 points (19 g, 41 a) in 55 games this season. Andreoff, meanwhile, leads the club in goals with 29. He's one of two Islanders to hit the 20-goal mark this season, as the rookie Dufour has 20 on the campaign. Game Information: WATCH: AHLTV LISTEN: Mixlr Play-by-play voice of the Wolf Pack, Alex Thomas, will have 'Wolf Pack Pregame' starting live at 6:45 p.m. on both AHLTV and Mixlr. HARTFORD WOLF PACK COMPLETE 7-5 COMEBACK WIN OVER BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS
Tumblr media
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack  HARTFORD, CT – Despite trailing three times in the contest, the Hartford Wolf Pack won a crucial victory over the Bridgeport Islanders on Wednesday night. Six different Wolf Pack players lit the lamp as the team earned a 7-5 comeback victory in the ninth installment of the ‘Battle of Connecticut.’ Jonny Brodzinski completed the comeback bid for good about thirteen minutes into the final period. Playing in his first game since being assigned to Hartford by the New York Rangers on March 11th, Brodzinski took a feed from Jake Leschyshyn and blasted a one-timer from the left circle that Cory Schneider couldn’t stop. The goal was Brodzinski’s second of the contest and stood as the eventual game-winner. The Islanders broke the ice just under two minutes into a wild opening period. Ruslan Iskhakov started the scoring, collecting a loose puck at center ice and dancing his way into the offensive zone before wrapping around the Hartford net and lighting the lamp just 1:56 into the contest. The tally was Iskhakov’s 15th of his rookie campaign and gave the Islanders the game’s first lead. Fellow rookie Will Cuylle would find the equalizer just under a minute later. Cuylle, stationed in the slot, tipped a pass from Ty Emberson past Schneider to tie up the contest. The goal was Cuylle’s 20th of his rookie campaign, becoming the first member of the Wolf Pack to reach the 20-goal mark. The goal was also Cuylle’s 34th point of the season, good for the team lead. Bridgeport reinstated the lead with a pair of goals in four minutes. Kyle MacLean put the Islanders back on top just over the five-minute mark in the period. MacLean grabbed the puck out of the air in the left-wing circle, rotated towards the goal, and sniped a shot from a sharp angle that squeezed by the glove of Domingue and into the net, putting Bridgeport back on top. Andy Andreoff pushed the Isles lead to two just over four minutes later. Chris Terry fired a shot from the right circle that Domingue turned away. Andreoff pounced on the rebound and buried it into the Hartford net to give the Islanders their biggest lead of the night. The goal was Andreoff’s team-leading 26th of the campaign. The Wolf Pack drew back within one late in the opening stanza. The Islanders had a powerplay killed, but before Paul Thompson could get back into the action, Lauri Pajuniemi sniped a long-range shot past Schneider for his 17th goal of the season. Pajuniemi’s 17 goals are good for second on the team, and his tally sent the Wolf Pack into the second period trailing by one. The Pack once again evened the score to start the middle stanza. Brodzinski took a shot from a sharp angle, and the puck deflected off the back of Schneider and into the net, tying the contest just 1:26 into the period. The Islanders protested as the net was dislodged in the mayhem, but the officials ruled that the goal stood, officially giving Brodzinski his 13th tally of the campaign. Bridgeport would grab the lead for the third time just over six minutes later. William Dufour kept the puck in the offensive zone and fired a shot from the blue line. Commotion in front of the net caused the puck to trickle by Domingue, putting the Wolf Pack in a 4-3 hole heading into the third period. For the third time in the game, the Wolf Pack would draw even thanks to a goal early in the final stanza. Ryan Carpenter managed to keep the puck in the offensive zone with an impressive backward pass, and Will Lockwood collected it. Lockwood skated to the right wall before firing a centering pass for Carpenter, who unleashed a shot from the slot that beat the blocker of Schneider. The goal was Carpenter’s 16th of the campaign and evened the score at four apiece. Tim Gettinger gave the Wolf Pack their first lead of the night about five minutes later. Carpenter rimmed the puck around the boards, and Schneider went out to settle it. However, the puck took a wild bounce off the wall, and Gettinger corralled it before beating a diving Schneider to give the Pack a lead they would not lose. It was the twelfth time Gettinger has lit the lamp this season, and he has given him points in his last three games. Will Lockwood earned the extra helper on Gettinger’s goal, his third point of the night. It was Lockwood’s first multi-point game since joining the Wolf Pack on March 8th. Brodzinski found twine for the second time on the night at 12:59, putting the game out of reach for good. The goal gave Brodzinski three points (2 g, 1 a) in the game; he has seven points (4 g, 3 a) in his last two games against the Islanders. Tanner Fritz added an insurance tally just over the seventeen-minute mark, scoring on the empty Bridgeport net. Cuylle and Brodzinski earned assists on the score, each earning their third point of the game. Collin Adams would tack on an extra goal for Bridgeport with 50 seconds remaining in the contest, but the intrigue ended there, and the Wolf Pack picked up a 7-5 victory. The Wolf Pack returns to the ice on Friday, March 17th, hosting the Springfield Thunderbirds in the latest installment of the ‘I-91 Rivalry’. Join us for $2 beers and $1 hot dogs, and a specialty pint glass giveaway presented by Four Dads Pub! The puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. To get tickets, visit hartfordwolfpack.com.
