La Reggia ha messo a disposizione la bellissima Citroniera, progettata dal celebre architetto italiano Filippo Juvarra e costruita tra il 1722 ed il 1727, lunga 148 metri, larga 14, alta 16 e illuminata sul lato sud da grandi finestre. Insomma, una grande location per un grande evento sportivo. Hanno presentato la manifestazione, la popolare influencer Alice De Bortoli e Valerio Lamanna, la voce degli sport da ring in Italia. Gli spettatori hanno assistito ai combattimenti ed agli spettacoli (tra un match e l’atro) seduti a tavola gustando una cena preparata da uno chef di alto livello. Spettacoli eseguiti da artisti di fama internazionale: Mattia Rossi Ruggeri e Giulia Serra hanno fatto rimanere il pubblico a bocca aperta con un’esibizione di tango acrobatico, il violinista Danilo Artale ha stupito tutti per la sua bravura. Nel combattimento più importante della serata, il campione del mondo dei pesi gallo Wako-Pro Luca Cecchetti ha demolito in tre round il fuoriclasse francese Frank Giovanni Gross con le regole dello stile K-1: pugni, calci e ginocchiate. I personaggi dello sport e dello spettacolo ed i media sono accorsi numerosi per questo combattimento e per la sfida tra Elisabetta Canalis ed Angelica Donati con le regole dello stile kick light: pugni al di sopra della cintura, calci ovunque, ma senza affondare i colpi perché il knock out non era previsto. Le due atlete indossavano caschetto e parastinchi. La distanza era di tre riprese da un minuto e mezzo ciascuna. Benedict XVI was buried in the Vatican on Thursday in a strictly private ceremony.

His wooden coffin was placed in the crypt under the central part of St. Peter’s Basilica in the first tomb of St. John Paul II, following the January 5 funeral Mass presided over by his successor, Pope Francis.

The casket was carried from St. Peter’s Square through the main entrance of St. Peter’s Basilica toward the altar, flanked by cardinals, before being brought to the crypt underneath.

Benedict XVI’s coffin was closed in the evening of January 4 after three days of public visitation in St. Peter’s Basilica.

The private ceremony took place in the presence of Benedict’s personal secretary, Archbishop Georg Gänswein, and a number of cardinals including Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

Before the casket was closed, a one-page summary in Latin of Benedict XVI’s papacy, called a “rogito” in Italian, was rolled into a metal cylinder and placed inside.

According to the Vatican, 195,000 people visited the body of Benedict XVI during the three days of public viewing.

He was laid to rest in the same tomb where St. John Paul II was buried before his beatification.

Before the burial, a ribbon was placed around the coffin, along with three seals: from the Apostolic Chamber, the Pontifical Household, and the office of liturgical celebrations.

The coffin was then placed in a zinc coffin and sealed. 

The zinc coffin was placed in another wooden coffin and then entombed on the north side of the central part of the Vatican crypt.

On the wall above the spot, there is an image of the Virgin Mary and the child Jesus flanked by angels. 

Queen Christina of Sweden, who died on 19 April 1689, is buried in a sarcophagus immediately to the right.

Cardinals Giovanni Battista Re, Pietro Parolin, Angelo De Donatis, Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, Edgar Peña Parra, Mauro Gambetti, and the consecrated women of the pope emeritus’ household were present for the closing of the coffin on January 4.

St. John Paul II’s tomb was in the crypt from the date of his funeral, 8 April 2005 until 29 April 2011, when his casket was moved to the upper part of St. Peter’s Basilica a few days before his beatification ceremony.

The last words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI as he lay on his deathbed were “Lord, I love you!” according to the late pope’s longtime personal secretary Archbishop Georg Gänswein, Vatican News reported.

At about 3 a.m. on December 31, a few hours before he died, Benedict was alone with a nurse who did not speak German, Vatican News reported.

At that time, Gänswein and others who were taking turns staying with the pope emeritus had left the room for a moment.

Gänswein recounted that Benedict XVI, “in a soft but clearly distinguishable voice, said in Italian, ‘Lord, I love you!’”

Gänswein said:

“I was not there at the time, but the nurse told me shortly afterwards. Those were his last comprehensible words because after that he was no longer able to express himself."

The pope emeritus’ death was announced in Rome on December 31.

Pope Francis composes a prayer to Our Lady, Health of the Sick, to implore her protection during the Covid-19 coronavirus epidemic.

The Pope offered a prayer to the Virgin Mary on Wednesday afternoon, in a video message to mark the Diocese of Rome’s day of prayer and fasting for the coronavirus emergency.

The video was broadcast at the opening of a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, the diocesan vicar, at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Divine Love near Rome.

Matteo Bruni, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, said Tuesday that the Pope wanted to entrust the city of Rome, all of Italy, and “the entire world to the protection of the Mother of God, as a sign of salvation and hope” during the ongoing coronavirus emergency.

Steadfast in faith

In his prayer, Pope Francis calls Mary “Health of the Sick”, adding that she kept her faith firm as she stood near the Cross as Jesus suffered.

“You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so that – as at Cana of Galilee – joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial.”

The Pope also said we seek refuge under Our Lady’s protection, knowing that she will help us “conform ourselves to the will of the Father”.

Historical precedents

The choice to celebrate Wednesday’s Mass at the Divine Love Sanctuary holds significant historical value.

Pope Pius XII went to pray there before the statue of Our Lady in June 1944.

He pleaded for the salvation of the city of Rome as Nazi troops withdrew from Italy during World War II.

Now, over 75 years later, Pope Francis has asked the Virgin Mary to watch over the world in this current moment of crisis.

An English-language translation of the Pope’s prayer is below:

“O Mary, you shine continuously along our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.

“We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the Cross were near to the pain of Jesus, keeping your faith firm.

“You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so that, as at Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial.

“Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us, He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and took up our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.

“We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.”
