Welcome to the Shadow of the Eclipse
October 4-31, 2023
Some introductory notes
The “shadow of the eclipse” is a time period lasting from 10 days before the first eclipse, to three days after the final eclipse. It is recommended not to start anything new, or schedule anything important, during these days - as usual I refer everyone to the 1981 wedding of Lady Diana Spencer to the Prince of Wales, as an example.
Of course we live in a place/time which scoffs at letting astrology help with the timing of events - therefore don’t lose hope if something falls unavoidably within the eclipse shadow. Just be prepared.
I wanted to take a more thorough approach to delineation, this time. I hope it’s helpful.
South Node Solar Eclipse
A solar eclipse happens when the New Moon lies close (in the Zodiac) to either the North Lunar Node, or to the South one. It occurred to me to do a little research on whether which Node is involved, makes any difference - and yes, it does.
Astrologers call the South Node “the dragon’s tail” - Steven Forrest calls the South Node, “the dragon’s butt” - because here we are “pooping out” what we don’t need and can’t use. (One person’s poop, however, is another person’s fertilizer.)
Eclipses conjunct the South Lunar Node, like the October 14 one, have an outflowing (outpooping?) of energy. They tend to feature external events which we have to “rise up to.”
If you’d like to note how these have affected you in the past (always a good idea to check “what happened last time”), here is a list of the previous South Node solar eclipses in this century:
December 14, 2001, 22°56’ Sagittarius
December 4, 2002, 11°58’ Sagittarius
November 23, 2003, 1°14’ Sagittarius
October 14, 2004, 21°06’ Libra
October 3, 2005, 10°19’ Libra
September 22, 2006, 29°20’ Virgo
September 11, 2007, 18°25’ Virgo
August 1, 2008, 9°32’ Leo
July 22, 2009, 29°27’ Cancer
July 11, 2010, 19°24’ Cancer
June 1, 2011, 11°02’ Gemini
July 1, 2011, 9°12’ Cancer
May 20, 2012, 0°21’ Gemini
May 10, 2013, 19°31’ Taurus
April 29, 2014, 8°52’ Taurus
March 20, 2015, 29°27’ Pisces
March 9, 2016, 18°56’ Pisces
February 26, 2017, 8°12’ Pisces
February 15, 2018, 27°08’ Aquarius
January 6, 2019, 15°25’ Capricorn
December 26, 2019, 4°07’ Capricorn
December 14, 2020, 23°08’ Sagittarius
December 4, 2021, 12°22’ Sagittarius
October 25, 2022, 2°00’ Scorpio
October 14, 2023, 21°08’ Libra
Going down that list was a very uncomfortable trip down memory lane for me. When those South Node eclipses affected me, it was generally a harbinger of some difficult “external event” which I had little to no control over - which is not the same thing as saying “it wasn’t my fault.” I brought some of it on myself due to bad decisions. Some karma chickens coming home to roost, in other words. Not all of them were dire, though. One in particular gave me something of a respite from what had been happening in my life - it was conjunct my natal 12th House cusp.
Saros Series “7 South”
This eclipse is part of Saros Series “7 South.” Bernadette Brady writes,
The individual experiencing this series will find that huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear or, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through his or her life very rapidly. Either way the individual will feel that everything is moving at great speed. (The Eagle and the Lark)
Previous Saros “7 South” eclipses in Ms M’s lifetime:
September 11, 1969, 18°53’ Virgo
September 23, 1987, 29°34’ Virgo
October 3, 2005, 10°19’ Libra
Not quite as depressing for me personally.
Whatever Shall We Do?
1) Determine which of your natal houses this eclipse falls in.
2) Determine whether the eclipse makes an aspect to anything in your chart. Use a 1° orb. In my case, the conjunctions, squares, sesquiquads (135°), inconjuncts, and oppositions made the most obvious impacts.
3) If there is a close aspect to a planet, check to see which house(s) that planet rules. One South Node eclipse was conjunct the ruler of my natal 4th House, and I moved three months later.
4) Avoid strenuously negative thoughts. If you put a lot of energy into anticipating that something is going to be horrible and painful and disastrous, well, guess what - that’s exactly what’s going to happen. If you catch yourself falling into a panic, try to refocus the energy into “the best possible outcome.”

Venus opposite Mercury transit
Let me just say I love astro so much i just can't LMAO
I was writing down my Venus transits coming up and in April I have Venus opposite Mercury and the description basically said be careful what you say to friends because someone may take it seriously and you'll hurt their feelings. Immediately I was like can't think of any recent time when people took me seriously when I was joking??? Thought a bit more and APRIL 2021!!! I had such a random friendship conflict that to this day I'm still a bit confused how it got to that point (spoiler alert we're no longer friends lol not bc of that) I looked at my transits back then and it's the last time I had Venus opposite Mercury! The same exact weekend!
Background: Friends and I drive up to NY for a friend's bday for the weekend
Friday Apr 2nd - transit hasn't started yet - we get to NY in the morning and we chill and we get ready to go out, friend this happened with wasn't at the house she had stuff to do and then later came and got ready after us, I have a snapchat video of me saying what's in your purse? bc it was a big purse like a laptop could fit in there and she only had wallet phone and chapstick in there lmao sorry but that's comical
Saturday Apr 3rd - transit starts - I didn't notice it until days later but she did not speak to me directly that day unless she had to
Sunday Apr 4th - Transit still applying - we drive back home and we're tired so no one is really talking but I'm the last to get dropped off at home and we were chatting normally
Monday Apr 5th - transit is exact - I get a lonnngggggg text from her long like 6 iphone screenshots long lmfao and she's basically saying how the entire weekend I was attacking her and intentionally putting her down and how I was inconsiderate and so much more and I was SHOCKED! Literally couldn't respond for like two days! And she also said that "people" had told her that I was talking behind her back and I was like bro what??? The only "people" are us who traveled together and our friend who's bday it was!
Wednesday Apr 7th - transit ends that day - I respond and I'm like so sorry I didn't realize I was doing too much and clarified some things that she said that literally didn't happen like that at all and then I was so upset I wrote in the group chat that next time if they have a problem with something I'm saying just speak up in the moment and they were like we don't know what you mean and I was like okayyyyyyy
Lesson learned I am taping my mouth shut this time around lmao staying inside!! Mind you mercury wasn't even retrograde for that in 2021 and it is this time so no one will be hearing from me! My Libra heart can't handle that again lol

I started compiling yearly writing reviews in 2017.
"I’ve seen people do month-by-month yearly compilations for drawing," I wrote in that first post, beneath a Goop's Creative Writing in 2017 header and various isolated paragraphs, "and I know it’s way harder to see progress with writing, but I thought I’d try anyway?"
In 2018, I crossed out the Creative part.
"I’m including all kinds of writing I’ve done this time around," I said. "My non-fiction work is important to me, too."
By 2019, the header was simply Goop's Writing in 2019. No red X. No sign that there had ever been anything else.
I skipped 2020. 2021 removed headers and isolated paragraphs altogether—a tradition I'll keep for 2022.
But I can't help thinking about that crossed-out Creative from 2018.
Tumblr media
What a 2022 mood.
See, there's this essay that's been swirling around in my head for a while. Well, more than swirling around—there are maybe the makings of it somewhere deep in my Tumblr drafts, scrawled out and abandoned way back in 2020.
You Don't Deserve to Be a Good Artist. That's what I've thought about calling it.
Because I'm a Libra, right? (On the cusp, but still!) I'm all about fairness and balance, about earning what you get. And, as I realized in horrible clarity in 2022, despite my Creative Writing degree, I don't deserve to be a good (creative) writer.
But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.
So, here's a clumsy metaphor: I learned how to swim as a young child, through lessons held at a local high school. There were two pools there, one for swimming and one for diving, and this year, I feel like I skipped the shallower swimming pool and leapt right into the deeper, scarier diving pool of creativity. I wrote fiction beyond November's National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge of penning 50,000 words within 30 days—a challenge I've participated in since 2006—completing two short fanfictions, more than I've done in years. 2022 also got me interested in a new hobby of video editing; I've shared 10 AMVs since April.
I surrounded myself with artists, and they welcomed me with open arms, treating me with far more kindness than I felt I deserved. And that's the theme with me, so I do want to stress that it's not the fault of anyone else—not at all, not ever!—that a sense of out-of-placeness filled me.
I got my degree in Creative Writing, I must have said, multiple times, over and over.
But I never voiced, not directly, the reason I ever mentioned it at all. That I'm an artist, too. That I belong here. That I can also write creatively, not just essays! I swear!
Yeah. My need to justify my existence was probably pretty blatant.
In many ways, 2022 felt like a repeat of realizations made in 2021. "I can’t get invested in my own stories," I said in last year's review. And yet, "[S]omething simply feels… lesser, about throwing fiction behind and writing about other people’s fiction instead." So, I tried to write fiction. And it hurt, and it ached, and I cried. (And vomited from anxiety.) I vibed so much with MUNA's "Winterbreak" that I used it in an ask game this year, but it wasn't 'til the closing months of 2022 that I understood that I do actually relate to the song, in a way; my relationship with creative writing feels like a love I'll never get right, but "I'll always have one more try."
Like 2021, I also don't know where I'm going next year. But 2022 got me thinking, for the first time, "So what if I have a Creative Writing degree?" It's been a source of shame ever since I earned it—a painful, haunting reminder that I genuinely went to school for fiction writing and still write pieces that reek of amateur—but in the grand scheme of things, what does that matter, really?
So I wrote some literary fiction for school, studied movie scripts, penned a few plays, handed in one novel. (And the novel was for my Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies minor!) So I've participated in NaNoWriMo since 2006 and have over a million words on NaNo projects.
So what?
Writers around me have done so much more than that. Why do I deserve to be good? For studying writing in school for a few years? For mainly only writing fiction one month a year, which I then never polish or show anyone?
Of course, the world doesn't work like I would maybe like it to. It doesn't necessarily matter if I "deserve" to be good or not. But how can I get upset over my skills when I've spent so little time honing them?
Well, I kind of like my NaNo projects from 2022. "I'll always have one more try," I think.
Anyway, my struggles with creativity aside, I am proud of what I accomplished this year. Here are my favorite written pieces from each month!
January: Ai Haibara: Will She Choose to Remain a Child in the End?
February: Shinichi Kudo: Hiding His Trauma
March: Episodes 406-408: Toning Down the Tsundere
April: HeiShin Masterpost: Things I Love About Heiji and Shinichi
May: HeiShinRan
June: OVA 9: Shinichi’s Conception of Heiji’s Future (And How He Thinks Heiji’s So Attractive That He’ll be Called “The Lady-Killer of Naniwa”)
July: Opening 56: The Focus on Heiji’s Alcohol
August: HeiShin: Is It Really Onesided?
September: "They Only Murdered Him Once"
October: The only thing in my "ramblings" tag for this month is this post about recommended Conan English dub releases...
November: "Demon Get Out, Luck Come In"
December: Heishin: "Don't Fall in Love"
Yeah, this is, like, all Heishin related 😳
That's all for now. Happy New Year, y'all. Thank you so much for your continued support and kindness.

The Novelist/Pornographer Episode One Commentary
Izuka Kenta and Terunosuke Takezai
Terunosuke Takezai
Izuka Kenta
Synopsis- Kuzumi Haruhiko is a university student. One day, he causes a bicycle accident. The accident causes novelist Kijima Rio to break his arm. Kuzumi doesn't have insurance or money to pay Kijima for his injury. Kijima then asks Kuzumi to transcribe a story he is writing. Kuzumi is surprised to learn the story is obscene. -Mydramalist
Starring: October Libra Izuka Kenta and April Aries Terunosuke Takezai
This was one of my first BLs. I heard some things about it, but I wanted to check it out for myself. It was much different than Cherry Magic, which was my first BL. But after watching it, I thought, I definitely needed to watch more BLs if they were going to be as intriguing as this was. I thought Cherry Magic was cute, and the tension between the leads was fun, but this was a whole other intensity level that I preferred. This has a serious and commanding tone. The handsome leads definitely made it more enjoyable. They went all out in their performances, which I loved.
Just my thoughts

ST Modern AU
Some bg on a text chat AU I’ll be posting for soon.
If you’d like to use this info for your fics, go right ahead! Please just tag me so I can see it/get credit.
Locations:
For location, I’d sub a Walmart for Melvald’s (Joyce is GM), add in a couple fast food places and a large local strip mall (some local places, some chains, etc) and that’s about it. There is DEF a Hooters somewhere in Hawkins.
The Arcade and Starcourt Mall aren’t that bad for a small town, especially if the parents of that town are used to dropping their kids off until they’re ready to be picked up, like they were in their childhoods. The only difference is the kids can call with their cells rather than payphones.
For the mall especially: kids LOVE bright shiny new toys. Modern kids would CRAWL all over a new mall, even if it’s just for 1-2 months (which it is for Starcourt, lol)
Hawkins Family Library instead of Family Video: an outsource of the Library’s family/kids section in order to increase their capacity and try and reduce the number of perverts (which gets worse). Commonly, parents drop older kids off at the arcade, then take their younger kids to the library (like canon, they’re in the same strip mall)
This also provides Robin and Steve the ability to find Reefer Rick in S4, since the Family Library is hooked to the main library database and can see checkouts from the main branch, and thus, Reefer Rick’s address.
Communication:
The Party communicates with their phones, but on actual missions they use Claudia’s old walkies from the 80s (hc hint hint) since they aren’t wiretapped by the government.
Suzie can also only be accessed by radio: her father forbids her from having any modern technology, so Dustin still has to use Cerebro to talk to her.

She continues to steer folks into meat grinders at no danger to herself,” one Twitter consumer commented on the latter Tweet. Altman pushed again on the criticism to CoinDesk. She stated in a weblog the Mashinsky interview was a “favor.” Altman additionally informed the outlet she had a separate contract to submit concerning the firm till it ended the deal unexpectedly in Could (the corporate paused withdrawals in June) – and that she communicates when her social posts are paid. “My error was trusting Celsius,” Altman informed the outlet. As for the corporate’s funds, she stated, she had, “Not a clue, no visibility on something aside from my advertising and marketing marketing campaign.” The crypto world and extra conventional sources began noticing Altman’s predictions and on-line sway final 12 months, along with her prediction of a brand new moon-related dip after which a bull run in January 2021, for instance. “When to commerce bitcoin? When Saturn crosses Mercury, in fact,” Reuters wrote of her in January 2021. Altman has handled on-line backlash earlier than, nonetheless, with folks inside the Astrological group saying she stole content material from creators of coloration. She didn’t instantly reply to Entrepreneur’s request for remark. Key Takeaways Andreessen Horowitz is among the most accomplished financiers in the innovation and cryptocurrency area. Despite its remarkable performance history, the company has actually made some oversights throughout the years. Some of its worst bets consist of OpenBazaar, Diem, Basis, and BitClout. Andreessen Horowitz developed itself as a crypto heavyweight by putting winning bets on market pillars like Uniswap, Solana, and Sky Mavis early on. The company likewise released a record-breaking $4.5 billion crypto fund in May 2022, highlighting its dedication to blockchain innovation. Even Silicon Valley's leading gamers make financial investment oversights from time to time. Here are a few of the leading stopped working crypto tasks Andreessen Horowitz has actually made bad bets on over the previous couple of years. Andreessen Horowitz and OpenBazaar OpenBazaar was an early crypto job with links to Bitcoin's dark market age. The job tried to develop a decentralized peer-to-peer market for products and services, similar to an open-source variation of eBay with cryptocurrency payments. OpenBazaar was coded by Bitcoin designer Amir Taaki and a group of developers from the start-up Airbitz as part of a Toronto Bitcoin hackathon in April2014 The task's developers later on deserted it, and the code was embraced and rebranded to OpenBazaar by a brand-new group of designers. The very first variation introduced on April 4,2016 As OpenBazaar, the task brought in interest from numerous of crypto's leading equity capital companies. Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, and Digital Currency Group all backed OpenBazaar through its seed financing rounds. Andreessen Horowitz added to OpenBazaar's $1 million and $3 million seed rounds in addition to a later on $5 million Series A raise. According to information from Crunchbase, OB1, the business establishing OpenBazaar, got more than $9 million in equity capital financing throughout its life. However, in spite of its early success and sufficient financing, OpenBazaar was not able to take a location for itself in the quickly broadening crypto market. On January 4, 2021, OB1 revealed that it would stop supporting the OpenBazaar market's wallets, APIs, online search engine and site, efficiently ending the task. Former OB1 CEO and OpenBazaar job lead Brian Hoffman shed some light on the job's failure in a July 2021 CoinDesk interview He stated that contrasting stories of Bitcoin being both a financial investment and a payments system was the greatest headwind for OpenBazaar. "Crypto, especially Bitcoin, progressed from a low-cost money option into a shop of worth-- a digital gold-- that didn't make it favorable to day-to-day Amazon-type e-commerce purchases," he stated. In hindsight, Hoffman likewise thought that if OpenBazaar had actually focused on stablecoin assistance early and generated income from the platform by charging a little cost on all deals, it might have had a much better opportunity of success. OpenBazaar had a strong structure and an all-star lineup of backers, its failure will serve as a suggestion of the dangerous nature of endeavor investing. Diem's Downfall Diem was Facebook's response to growing interest in cryptocurrency payments, and it got substantial assistance from Andreessen Horowitz and other heavyweights early on. Facebook revealed Diem under the name Libra in June 2019, promoting it as a method to send out cash throughout its suite of social networks platforms without depending on third-party intermediaries or intricate currency conversions. Planned as a stablecoin pegged to the dollar, the job was set to operate on a permissioned blockchain-based system developed by the business's designers. It rebranded from Libra to Diem in December 2020, preceding Facebook's October 2021 Meta revamp as it revealed a pivot towards the Metaverse. Although Diem fell under the business's central advancement, it handed over management to a 3rd party called
the Diem Association, of which Meta was among lots of members with equivalent ballot weight. This accomplice of business functioned as stewards for the Diem currency while likewise supervising its advancement. Andreessen Horowitz was an early financier in the Diem task and a member of the Diem Association along with endeavor companies like Breakthrough Initiatives, Union Square Ventures, and Temasek Holdings. It's uncertain just how much capital Diem raised, or the quantity that Andreessen Horowitz contributed. According to a July 1 short article from CNET, the majority of the Diem Association members were anticipated to contribute as much as $10 million each to the task's advancement. Like a lot of Andreessen Horowitz's financial investments, Diem began with sufficient assistance from market heavyweights. Early backers such as eBay, Mastercard, PayPal, Stripe and Visa hinted that Diem was well placed to bridge the space in between standard financing and crypto. As the job grew, it drew increasing analysis from U.S. legislators. In 2019, numerous disputes with regulators and political leaders weighed on Diem's long-lasting practicality. A July Senate Banking Committee hearing ended in policymakers comparing Diem and its developers to arsonists and film bad guys, with among the more singing critics, Senator Kennedy( R-LA), revealing his uncertainty about the job by stating, "Facebook wishes to manage the financial supply. What could perhaps fail?" Several popular Democrats from the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services weighed in, sending out a letter asking Meta to stop Diem advancement, pointing out personal privacy, nationwide security, trading, and financial policy issues. Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell likewise said that the Fed had "severe issues" over how Diem would handle concerns such as cash laundering and customer security. The President's Working Group on Financial Markets doubled down on these issues, mentioning that integrating a stablecoin provider with a huge corporation "might result in an extreme concentration of financial power." Even previous President Donald Trump took part airing his uncertainty towards the task. "If Facebook and other business wish to end up being a bank, they should look for a brand-new Banking Charter and end up being based on all Banking Regulations," he stated in a tweet. After definite pushback versus Diem in the U.S., eBay, Mastercard, Mercado Pago, PayPal, Stripe, Visa Inc., and other essential backers withdrew their assistance. After 2 more years of slow advancement and continued regulative pressure, the Diem Association negotiated to offer the innovation behind the job to Silvergate Capital Corp for $200 million in January2022 The sale marked completion of the Diem task in its present kind. Backing Nader Al-Naji's Basis and BitClout The last Andreessen Horowitz financial investment oversight on our list is available in the kind of a double function: Basis and BitClout. First up is Basis, a decentralized, algorithmic stablecoin job co-founded and led by among crypto's most notorious business owners-- Nader Al-Naji. The task intended to keep its Basis stablecoin pegged to the dollar through on-chain auctions, which provided "bond" and "share" tokens to change the Basis supply. Basis was enthusiastic in its objective, stating it wished to develop a "much better financial system" that would be resistant to devaluation, devoid of centralized control, and more robust than the existing techniques for moving wealth. The task was an early effort at developing a steady, unbacked, dollar-pegged token, working as motivation for other stopped working stablecoin tasks like Basis Cash and Terra. Questions of practicality aside, Basis ensured it looked the part with cool fintech branding and a group of previous Google and Goldman Sachs staff members. Under Al-Naji's assistance, Basis raised $133 million in April 2018, bring in huge names like Bain Capital Ventures, one-time Federal Reserve guv Kevin Warsh, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Andreessen Horowitz.
However, neither the Basis group nor the task's backers had actually done their research on U.S. securities policies. It quickly ended up being clear that the bonds and shares utilized to anchor Basis to its dollar peg would make up unregistered securities, suggesting they would undergo move limitations. As U.S. securities guidelines are infamously hard to browse, Basis understood that developing a "much better financial system" wasn't going to be as basic as it had actually at first prepared for. In December 2018, 8 months after its $133 million raise, Al-Naji published a statement on the Basis site exposing that it would be shuttering and returning its remaining capital to its backers. " Unfortunately, needing to use U.S. securities guidelines to the system had a severe unfavorable effect on our capability to release Basis," the post read, including that adhering to securities laws would affect the task's censorship resistance and lower liquidity for its on-chain auctions. Despite getting burned by Basis, Andreessen Horowitz chose to take another bet on Al Naji when he released his next blockchain start-up: BitClout. Advertised as the very first blockchain-based social networks platform, BitClout lets users publish updates and images, award cash to other users' posts, and purchase and offer what it calls "developer coins"-- customized tokens whose worth depends upon individuals's credibilities. BitClout operates on its own Proof-of-Work blockchain called DeSo, brief for "Decentralized Social." Unlike Andreessen Horowitz's previous flunked financial investments, the company contributed by purchasing tokens in DeSo's preliminary coin offering (ICO). According to Crunchbase information, BitClout raised $200 million from 14 financiers through its ICO, putting the typical contribution from each at around $142 million. While information on the number of tokens financiers got and the vesting duration are unidentified, DESO is presently 97% below its June 2021 all-time high of $19868, per CoinGecko Interest in BitClout hasn't been assisted by the unfavorable understanding the platform has actually made itself given that its launch. To purchase developer coins on BitClout, users required to send out Bitcoin to the DeSo blockchain, which was then transformed into BTCLT at a one-to-one ratio. As soon as on DeSo, there was no method to transform BTCLT back to genuine Bitcoin, successfully trapping users' funds. The withdrawal issue has actually considering that been partly fixed after DeSo made its code open-source. Still, lots of early users lost significant quantities of cash due to the distinction in need in between Bitcoin and BTCLT. Although BitClout and the DeSo blockchain are still active, their futures do not look intense. The variety of wallets and developers connecting with the BitClout platform appears like it's plateaued, and trading volumes for BitClout's developer coins are at an all-time low Lots of have actually grumbled that BitClout generates income from Twitter profiles without their owners' consent. Stephen Palley, a partner at law office Anderson Kill., has likewise argued that the DeSo ICO need to have been classified as a prohibited securities offering. In light of yet another of Nader Al-Naji's crypto tasks stopping working to take into consideration U.S. securities laws, maybe Andreessen Horowitz must beware of a particular old expression when considering its future financial investments.
