2 - Intertextuality in videogames

This week, we explored the concept of intertextuality, which describes the relationships between texts and how they reference or influence one another. Based on my understanding, intertextuality highlights how different texts are interconnected, creating layers of meaning through their associations and references. This concept is not limited to literature but extends to all forms of media, including video games.

In the realm of video games, rapid technological advancements continually reshape how games are presented to players, introducing new gameplay modes, innovative world-building techniques, and enhanced interactivity. Concurrently, many games draw inspiration from or directly reference older titles, supporting a critical dialogue about gaming history and ensuring the continuity of specific genres, types, and platforms within the gaming community. Fortnite

In the context of video games, Fortnite (Fortnite, 2017) is a prime example of intertextuality. The game, developed by Epic Games, has become a cultural phenomenon partly due to its adept use of intertextual references. Fortnite incorporates numerous elements and references from a wide array of other media, including films, TV shows, comics, other video games, music, and pop culture. This makes the game a constantly evolving mosaic of contemporary culture.

These intertextual references are most evident in character skins, themed events, and special in-game experiences. For instance, Fortnite has featured characters from the Marvel and DC universes. These characters are not just visual enhancements; they often come with themed challenges and unique abilities that reflect their original stories, enhancing the player's connection to these beloved characters.

Additionally, Fortnite hosts spectacular in-game events that tie into major media releases or cultural phenomena. A notable event was the virtual concert featuring pop star Ariana Grande. This event was an immersive experience, combining her music with stunning visual effects, creating a unique blend of gaming and live performance. The game's use of music and dance references also illustrates its intertextual nature. The game is known for its emotes, which often include dance moves and gestures popularized by songs, viral videos, or celebrities.

I think Fortnite is a great example of intertextuality by seamlessly blending elements from diverse media into its gameplay and narrative structure. This approach enriches the player's experience, making the game more engaging and culturally relevant. The game continuously draws connections and creates new meanings through its intertextual references.

Fortnites Next Big Musical Guest Is Billie Eilish

Fortnite, the popular online game, has been making waves in the music industry for several years. From virtual concerts to in-game skins inspired by popular musicians, the game has successfully attracted music lovers worldwide. One of the most noteworthy efforts by Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, has been the introduction of updates that put pop stars like Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga in the spotlight.

In fact, Epic Games has gone a step further by dedicating entire seasons to these pop queens. For instance, the "Ariana Grande Rift Tour" took place in August 2021, where players could experience a virtual concert by the pop star and even get her skin as part of the game. Similarly, the "The Fame" pack, inspired by Lady Gaga, was released in November 2021, offering players the opportunity to play as the pop star and unlock exclusive in-game items.

It's not just these pop queens that have been featured in the game either. Other musicians who have made appearances in Fortnite include Travis Scott, Marshmello, and J Balvin, among others. But what's most impressive is that these virtual concerts have been able to attract millions of players from all over the world, proving that music and gaming can indeed go hand in hand.

Overall, Fortnite has successfully bridged the gap between music and gaming, and it's exciting to see how this trend will evolve.

Reseña/Opinión: parte 2

Spacefarer Ariana Grande VS Ariana Grande Rift Tour

Ahora hablaremos del estilo numero 2: Ariana Diosa de la grieta empezando nuevamente de la cabeza a los pies.

Empezando por que la temática si tiene que ver con el juego comenzare hablando se su cabello así que …

1. El cabello: igual que el otro estilo tiene una Pony Tail solo que su cabello es completamente castaño justo como en la vida real.

2. El adorno en su cabello: es diferente al del primer estilo, diferente textura color y diseño, tiene las tonalidades holográficas del vestido y luce bastante bien.

3. Maquillaje: la verdad es bastante similar al del primer estilo, sin embargo, hay unas ligeras diferencias empezando por los colores, en los labios y en la sombra de los ojos así como la sombra que llega hasta la sien.

4.Sus ojos se iluminan: esto es mas visible cuando hay escenarios oscuros en el juego, aunque es visible, en especial al apuntar en el juego.

5. El arcoíris: La Skin tiene un arcoíris en su cabeza que brilla sutilmente y es mas visible en escenarios oscuros .

6. El outfit: Aunque ya no lleva collar ni aretes el vestido es completamente diferente y es una absoluta chulada, es animado, brilla bastante, tiene unos cristales que su movimiento simula como si se encontraran dentro de un campo anti gravitatorio.

Además de brillar también reflejan la luz en unos hermosos colores holográficos.

La falda por la parte de atrás deja una estela de luz entre azulada, morada, rosa y blanca que va soltando pequeños fragmentos de cristal

7. Las uñas: Son iguales al del otro estilo pero se conserva el detalle de traer uñas y de venir pintadas

8. Los brazaletes y las botas: Los brazaletes son iguales al vestido solo que uno es pequeño o mas corto y el otro conserva el mismo tamaño al del estilo anterior.

Lo que no me gusto de la skin:

No le respetaron los tatuajes, hay muchas skins en Fortnite con tatuajes y a Ari no se los pusieron.

Que no pudieras decidir el color del cabello en cada versión. Me hubiese gustado que al primer estilo se le pudiera poner el cabello castaño y viceversa.

Y ahora ¿Por que en mi opinión la Skin Spacefarer Ariana Grande no esta a la altura de la original?

Ambas valen 2000 V-bucks/ PaVos y escuche decir a muchos que vale mas la pena por el gesto integrado y por el "estilo adicional" sin embargo no estoy de acuerdo. Como ya mencione una de ellas es un recolor y la otra deja de ser prácticamente Ariana porque no tiene ni la cara ni la estética del artista.

Es un RECOLOR

Y es que no cambian prácticamente en casi nada salvo en los detalles de las luces del traje, el color del casco y la luz del la pistola rayo láser.

En gameplay el casco estorba un poco y en ocasiones se bugea, eso es un hecho que le quita bastantes puntos, en especial si la piensas usar, si es solo por coleccionismo, no creo que el casco sea un problema.

Cuando corres y le ves de espaldas parece que corre como si no tuviese cuello, se ve un poco extraño para mi.

El traje está muy bonito pero hay un enorme problema, no me gusta el detalle en las caderas. Se ve muy extraño y me recuerda a cómo le diseñaron las piernas a los personajes de “Pollitos en fuga” se me hace poco estético y termina arruinando el traje.

Ahora hablemos de su otro estilo ...

No les voy a mentir, su tercer estilo esta bastante bello, tiene muchísimos detalles como la forma de corazón roto en su pecho, las escamas, el movimiento de la cola sin embargo, y como ya lo mencione, la Skin NO ES ARIANA GRANDE, NO se parece y no lleva la esencia del artista.

Además la cola es too much, epic debió decidir en si poner la pony tail o la cola porque se ven bastante raras juntas y siento que me estorba.

Otro detalle que no me gusto es que quitaron a piggy como mochila y pusieron un alien que se me hace bastante feo la verdad

¿Qué hubiera hecho yo?

Si realmente querían implementar un estilo espacial de Ariana hubieran usado el diseño de su anuncio de su perfume R.E.M, haciendo un hibrido entre Ariana y el traje espacial mostrado en el comercial.

Calificación final:

Ariana Rift Tour: 9.8/10

Ariana Spacefarer: 6/10

Ahora sabes cuales son mis razones por las que considero considero que el diseño de la Skin de Ariana Grande el Rift Tour es superior a la Viajera Espacial.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7

Review

Alright, so far in Chapter 2, Season 7 of Fortnite has been interesting but confusing. Only reason I say this is because every Season I’ve played made no sense to the primary storyline that’s being tried to tell to the players who enjoy the game. Previous Seasons 4, 5, and 6 entailed this;

Season 4 of Chapter 2 on Fortnite included a All Marvel themed battle pass with Tony Stark/Iron Man, Thor, Mistique, Groot, Doctor Doom, Wolverine, She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters, and X-Men member Storm. The main threat in this storyline is to stop the Devourer of Worlds Galactus from destroying the World of Fortnite and stopping him from taking the Zero Point,

Ever since Galactus was stopped the Zero Point uprooted from the Authority, it became highly unstable with now reality at Stake, thanks a lot Galactus. Now Agent Jones is now gathering infamous bounty hunters across from all realities to stop those to escape the loop. Guest Stars The Mandalorian from Disney+ series with The Child and Secret Battle Pass skin Predator. Crazy crossovers included The Walking Dead (Daryl Dixon & Michonne), Ellen Ripley & Xenomorph (from Aliens), Master Chief (from Halo), Kratos from God Of War, and etc.

During Live Event transitioning to Season 6 with Jones betraying the Agency he was working for and teaming up with the Seven, Him & The Foundation made a deal before dealing with the Zero Point problem, unable to stabilize it The Foundation has sustain it trapping himself inside the Zero Point creating the Spire. Chapter 2 - Season 6 Primal was an interesting Season adding on new features with Animals and brand new character crossovers with Lara Croft & Raven from Teen Titans.

Now here we are Season 7 after Raz obtained a Spire Artifact, he ended up attracting unwanted attention from an alien race known as The Last Reality. UFOs began to abduct loopers and send them to different areas of the island. Mari, a woman who is studying aliens, hosts a radio show on them titled "Hot Saucers." Later, the aliens started a full scale abduction against the citizens of Apollo, with them successfully infiltrating the Imagined Order and using their technology to rip the Spire out of the map. The location of the zero point is unknown but The Foundation was seen falling into the ocean, possibly being rifted to another reality.

Epic Games just recently confirmed that the live event Skyfire being launched in 2 days from now from detonating the bombs inside the Alien Mothership. Now the Live Event with the Rift Tour with Ariana Grande it was fantastic hands down loved every bit of it, but my favorite part was when they showed previous seasons it was very interesting especially showing “Kevin the Cube.” Well the Zero Point is gone so now I can’t wait to do an update on the upcoming Live Event.

Fortnite: Every Free Guy Quest (& How to Beat Them) | Screen Rant

A Free Guy set of quests is now available in Fortnite for players to complete. It’s typical for Fortnite to feature cross-promotional events for other properties to help expose them to new audiences. This has happened with Marvel, Star Wars, the NBA, and so many other iconic forms of media. Players even learned how to unlock the Ariana Grande skin with another wild crossover. Now, Fortnite is helping Free Guy, a comedy/action film starring Ryan Reynolds where the main protagonist discovers his entire world is a video game that will soon be shut down. To promote this film, Fortnite has added a Free Guy skin alongside a handful of quests for players to complete. This guide will show players how to unlock and beat them all.

The Free Guy film, like many other films and videos games, all received substantial delays due to the situation surrounding COVID-19. After a year-long delay, the film has finally received its theatrical release on August 13th. The film itself has been praised by both viewers and critics alike. Since this is a film centered around video games, it only makes sense for Fortnite to introduce it into its world. Free Guy has its own cameos and characters to discover.  Here’s every Free Guy quest available in Fortnite and how players can complete them.

To begin every Fortnite Free Guy quest, players will need to head to different ATM locations around the map. These jut out of the walls and are a bright blue color. Here is every Free Guy challenge.

Get hit by a moving vehicle: Players can set up a ramp and drive a car to the top of it. Set the car to roll down the ramp and head in front of it to take damage. Alternatively, players can get hit by another player.

Take Melee Damage: Find an enemy player, animal, or NPC to get hit physically.

Place coins around the map: The player will need to place 3 coins in specific locations. The best place to complete this challenge would be Holly Hatchery.

Talk to any NPC: This one is self-explanatory. Players can speak with any of them.

Reboot or revive teammates or interact with a campfire: Jump into Duos, Trios, or Squads and revive a fallen teammate. Players can also create a Campfire with 30 wood.

Once the player completes them all, they will be rewarded with the Good Guy emote. This emote is a part of the Free Guy promotional event and likely won’t be around forever. Fortnite continues to introduce tons of cross-promotional events for its players to participate in. Just last week, players were learned how to unlock the Clark Kent skin. It will be interesting to see who joins the battle bus next.
