America Can’t Let the 9/11 War Lies Go Down the Memory Hole
By Thom Hartmann/ HartmannReport.com/ September 11, 2023 Today is 9/11, the event that first brought America together and then was cynically exploited by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney to have a war against Iraq, following their illegal invasion of Afghanistan just a bit more than a year earlier. Yet the media today (so far, anyway) is curiously silent about Bush and Cheney’s lies.  Given the…

Around 1939 or '40 there was this lovely, ample-bosomed blonde girl who was my older brother's girlfriend. Her name was Natalie. She lived across the little side street on which we played stickball. The room that held my piano, my studio, if you will, faced her windows. We were up on the fifth floor, and Natalie was across the street on the second floor. There were a number of times in the summer when Ray, my brother, threw open the window, sat on the sill with his leg up, and Natalie would be like Juliet, except she was below, not above, at her window. The two would gaze and gesture to one another. It was quite a distance from the fifth floor to the second floor across the street, and, you know, with kids in between playing stickball, it wasn't quite the situation where they could converse. So they developed a kind of sign language. One afternoon, Ray must've been in the throes of some great wave of passion. He sat me down, literally grabbed me by the arm, and put me on the piano bench. He knew that I could play the piano version of Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. He pointed to the music and said, "Play!" Then he went and sat on the sill while I played as loudly as I could, with the appropriate feeling. I played this love music while my brother sat on the sill making these great swooping gestures as if he were sending the music out the window down across the street to Natalie's window. I was twelve or thirteen and Ray was close to eighteen at the time. I felt like Cyrano de Bergerac. A musical Cyrano de Bergerac.

not the original anon but re: Claire grossman and mason mount
https://www.the-sun.com/sport/8450743/chelsea-star-mason-mount-dating-american-model-claire-grossman/
The article legit sounds like it was written by a mason tumblr gossip blog. There's no pics of them together, it's just all the gossip from tumblr and tattle cobbled together to make an article. They even included the bit of gossip of claire having mason as her lock screen which was found out by people stalking her friends ig stories and zooming in on a blurry pic of her phone.
yeaaaa the sun is not a reliable source. let’s just wait till they confirm it or not. - arlene

Avenue south residence
Stefan Grossman was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 16, 1945 and comes from a very musical family. His cousin Stephen Grossman is a saxophonist who has actually played with Miles Davis and Elvin Jones. Another cousin, Harold Grossman, is a trumpet performer and professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Stefan's mom and dad convinced him to take up the guitar at the age of 9. He became interested in fingerpicking blues guitar after hearing some traditional blues music in Greenwich Village.
In 1960 Stefan was encouraged by a friend to go take lessons from ragtime blues guitarist Rev. Gary Davis who at that time lived at Claremont Avenue in the Bronx. Rev. Gary Davis was certainly the single biggest influence on Stefan's development as a guitar player and he spent months over at Davis' residence excitedly learning every ragtime and blues guitar solo that Davis would reveal to him.
Stefan then went on to study the country blues guitar methods of Son House, Skip James, Mance Lipscomb, Fred McDowell, and Mississippi John Hurt. In 1963 he formed "The Even Dozen Jug Band". In 1965 Grossman produced what was to be the very first of many educational blues guitar books and videos. In 1966 he performed with the bohemian poet group "The Fugs" and later with a blues group called "The Chicago Loop".
In 1967 Stefan Grossman decided to move to Europe, living for a time both in Britain and Italy. Over the next twenty years he went on tour internationally with his Kicking Mule show package. Avenue south residence  This in numerous ways was a blues, ragtime, and mainstream jazz variation of Norman Granz's "Jazz At The Philharmonic". Stefan showcased many of the leading blues, ragtime, and fingerpicking guitar players of the day together with his own genuine country blues guitar sound. At the same time he created his Kicking Mule record label which featured many of the artists who appeared in live performance with him.
In the late 1980s Stefan Grossman returned to reside in the USA. Living on the East Coast he continues to play and write prolifically on all elements of the blues and fingerpicking guitar. His DVDs and books are presently published by Mel Bay, Alfreds, and other leading publishers. His recordings are readily available on the Shanachie label and have established Stefan as an outstanding guitarist and composer in his own right.
Grossman also runs his own company which supplies a vast array of blues, ragtime, and jazz guitar music books, CDs, and DVDs. Mainly a blues guitarist and educator, Grossman's exceptional work in this field as a business owner, author, and performer often extends into areas of the jazz guitar. In recent times his Vestapol company has released some essential jazz guitar live concert footage DVDs that include performances by numerous legends of mainstream jazz guitar.
All in all, few guitar players have actually done as much as Stefan Grossman in transcribing, presenting, and preserving the music of many of the legends of country blues and ragtime blues guitar. Stefan was one of the very first guitar players, together with Happy Traum and Arlen Roth, to provide guitar lessons through the mail by means of VHS videos. Together, the three of them created an educational industry that allows anyone to learn different styles of guitar playing all from the comfort of their home regardless of where they live.

Lyrics & Lyricists
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Review by Brenda Repland
This week, Lyrics & Lyricists at the 92nd Street Y featured a program dedicated to the late lyricist, Yip Harburg who wrote (mostly show tunes) for more than forty composers during the 30’s and 40’s.  Many of his pieces were collaborations with Harold Arlen and Burton Lane.
His lyrics often reflected the effects of the financial crash of 1929 with such songs as “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?”
Some of his most famous songs are those written for “The Wizard of Oz” and “Finian’s Rainbow.”
Some of the highlights performed included “Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe”  (which the House UnAmerican Activities panel accused defendants of using as a code for Josef Stalin!) sung beautifully here by Mikaela Bennett;  “It’s Only A Paper Moon” sung by Laura Darrell who also performed a lovely “How Are Things In Glocca Morra?”
The real showstopper was “Lydia, The Tattooed Lady” by Megan Sikora which brought the house down and had the audience cheering wildly.
The evening closed with the entire company singing a melancholy yet heartfelt “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

Capitalism Works Great--Except When It Doesn't
10/04/2019 “Let me make clear that capitalism, also called free enterprise or the free market, the basis of our economic system, is not inherently bad. In fact, there is no other economic system that has proven to be more innovative, creative, and productive than capitalism. But without the necessary checks and balances, unrestricted capitalism becomes out-of-control capitalism, which has led us to where we are today, an America that has lost its bearing and is floundering in a sea of debt, poverty, injustice, and fear.”

In Case You Haven't Figured It Out
Letter to the editor, Monterey Herald, February 28, 2023 Have you ever wondered how, in the richest country in the world, so many Americans are hungry, homeless, lacking health care and living in poverty? In fact, about 64% of our population is living paycheck to paycheck. How can that be? Here’s a clue: three people in this country (Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Elon Musk) have more wealth than…

Hyperallergic: Nearly 80 National Academy Members Sign Letter in Support of Dana Schutz and ICA Boston
Installation view of Dana Schutz at ICA Boston (all photos by Dominic Deluque)
Members and members-elect of the National Academy of Art have expressed their support of the Institute of Contemporary Arts Boston (ICA) and its an current exhibition of recent works by Dana Schutz, which a group of protestors have demanded be cancelled. An open letter shared with Hyperallergic by artist Barbara Grossman and signed by nearly 80 artists and architects praised the ICA for refusing to “bow to forces in favor of censorship or quelling dialogue.” Among its signatories are Ed Ruscha, Dread Scott, Jack Whitten, Catherine Opie, and Kara Walker — the latter of whom posted a widely shared message earlier this year on Instagram in defense of Schutz and her contentious painting of Emmett Till. Schutz herself has been a member of the Academy since 2010.
Their letter responds directly to a six-page Google document penned two weeks ago by a group of Boston artists, activists, and community members. Addressed to curator Eva Respini and her team, it calls for the museum to “pull the show,” adding: “This is not about censorship. This is about institutional accountability.” Their demands are driven by Schutz’s painting of Till and its inclusion in the Whitney Biennial, for which they believe Schutz needs to be held accountable.
Installation view of Dana Schutz at ICA Boston
The portrait is not in the ICA’s show, a fact that the National Academy members emphasize. Open since July 26, the exhibition Dana Schutz continues through November 26.
Read the letter, in full, below:
August 3, 2017
As members of the National Academy, we would like to voice our unequivocal support for Dana Schutz, who was recently excoriated by a group of Boston artists who were demanding that her current exhibition at the ICA in Boston be canceled, a demand meant to penalize Schutz, the artist behind Open Casket, a controversial painting featured at the 2017 Whitney Biennial, which draws on the well-known photograph of Emmett Till lying disfigured in his casket.
This painting is not included in the ICA exhibition.
As fellow artists and architects, we wholeheartedly support cultural institutions like the ICA-Boston who refuse to bow to forces in favor of censorship or quelling dialogue.
It is also of the utmost importance to us that artists not perpetrate upon each other the same kind of intolerance and tyranny that we criticize in others.
We support the ICA-Boston and its decision to exhibit the works of Dana Schutz, and to maintain programming that fosters conversations between people with different points of view, especially given our current political climate of intolerance.

Which Candidate Is Worse?
As usual, Hal condemns both candidates and I try to convince him that one of them would be an utter disaster. Not hard to guess whom. My weekly Monday appearance on Halitics produced the usual disagreements with host Hal Ginsberg. Hal continues his strong condemnation of Israel’s aggressive policy in Gaza, and now we see a new kind of high-tech warfare against Hezbollah. Yikes! Will it ever end?

The Election Gets Closer, And the Craziness Escalates
The presidential election (with Trump, Harris, and Hal’s favorite, Jill Stein) is about 7 weeks away so the political world is in an upheaval. Hal Ginsberg and I talk about how Trump seems to be having a meltdown, and Taylor Swift and immigrants eating pets are big topics. Besides the election, Hal has no problem with Trump’s unwillingness to declare he wants Ukraine to defeat Russia. I take a…

Kamala, Trump, or Stein?
One day before their one debate Hal Ginsberg and I talk about our choices in the coming presidential election. Hal, dissatisfied with the choices, is sticking with Green Party outsider Jill Stein. I like Kamala, considering if it isn’t her, Trump will be president again, and that would be a disaster. But I want the vice-president to be stronger, and distinguish herself from Joe Biden, especially…
