Also; Sorry if you’ve answered this question before but what piece of equipment do you use to supplement your microphone to do all the cool voice modulations? On stream you were talking to Rendog about it and I swore you called it a “gargexalar” which absolutely can���t be right but I struggle phonetically! I also recall you spoke of it on the Imp and Skizz Podcast, but I couldn’t grasp the name there either. Would love to know how to get a cool mic set up for personal voice work and it sound like you know/have some good advice! :D
It's called a GoXLR, it's from a company called TC Helicon who seem to have abandoned the product earlier this year by laying off all but a few staff, so just be mindful of that if you purchase one. It's works just fine but any major errors or windows updates in the future I guess could have the potential to ruin things (although due to its popularity there's already a third party software etc made by the community)
I'm still wanting to move to a Rode Procaster Duo but currently it doesn't have and won't let you control virtual audio channels with its faders (which is important for me as I split game, music, chat and myself on to seperate tracks) - they have said they're looking to implement this feature in a future firmware update but there's no ETA given yet.
So the GoXLR is great but I worry about it's future, where as the Rode isn't quite suited to my needs yet but once it is I'll likely switch as they're a long established audio company with no signs of discontinuing support
The other little device I've mentioned before is the Tube MPC which is a handy compressor / limiter for boost audio without making it distorted (I admittedly haven't used in a while since I finally found some nice settings for the GoXLR that give the same results)

The first thing you heard outside the vast emptiness that had taken over your universe was the telltale sound of Handler's knuckles smacking clean across someone's face. You flinched on instinct.

You liked getting to hear Handler's voice again. You weren't sure where your own went, or if Handler had any means of understanding you at all. It was humiliating and frustrating to not be able to use your voice. You weren't entirely sure what you did to deserve having it taken away. In spite of this, you accepted it instantly.
"Give me a summary of the most recent memories you have on file." You giggled, even if no sound came out.
[PILOT INPUT: ""The Pilot of the Rampart was successful in defeating an overwhelming opponent". That's all I have."]
"Correct. Good girl."
[ADMINISTERING REWARD…] You couldn't feel your face enough to know what expression you made, but you knew you couldn't control it.
"You call that a summary? Shit was literally a single sentence." You didn't like this other voice. Handler's silence made you wince as much as the smack sound you heard earlier.
"Do you believe our enemies survived that explosion?" You heard drops of tension in her voice like slipping a poison into tea.
"No."
"Do you believe any other witnesses exist?"
"Your extreme interest in friendly fire makes it seem unlikely."
"So this is the only account of the assault that exists. It contains all relevant information, does it not?"
"You must think command is so fucking stupid, [REDACTED], If you think they're just gonna throw their hands up about [REDACTED] pilots and [REDACTED] dollars getting smashed to bits--"
Your hands clenched around imaginary triggers when you heard the gunshot. Your audio processor was able to filter out most of the mechanic's screaming, but it was imperfect - you heard her loud, sharp inhales before she wailed again and again.
"S[]t []p or th[] nex[] one []oes through your head." Handler's voice was caught up in the screaming and got glitchy. The mechanic was reduced to hurried breathing. You clung onto every sound you could from her lips, knowing she would do anything and everything if it meant keeping you safe.

I pulled out an old project I have that I called the "PiPiano". It's just an old Raspberry Pi 2B computer that I've set up to be a synthesizer; it uses the FluidSynth software synthesizer and some glue logic I set up to connect to USB MIDI instruments and output faux piano sounds (or any other instrument that's in the General MIDI soundfont). I mostly wanted to verify that it still works, since I don't think I've used it in literal years, so I just plugged it in, hooked up my little Alesis QX25 keyboard and some headphones, and started messing with it.

And almost immediately it sounded wrong. Oh, it sounded like a piano, sure, but if I played too hard, or lingered too long on the keys, the audio started to develop a vibrato, a quick wavering in pitch, just as if I'd turned up the modulation wheel. What the hell? But then I realized what was going on:
I had never before used the PiPiano with a controller that had MIDI aftertouch.
To over explain, keyboard controllers come in levels of complexity. At the most basic, when you hit the keys, you get a note. More advanced ones (most of the ones you can get now) have what's called "Velocity", where if you hit the key more softly, you get a quieter note, and you hit the key harder for a louder note, modeling what goes on in a piano when the speed of your playing gets transferred to the hammers.
But the step of complexity after that is "Aftertouch", where there's a separate pressure sensitive layer under the keyboard (or even under each key), where you can affect the note after you've played it by holding the key and pressing even harder. The default mapping of that in FluidSynth is into this vibrato pitch modulation, and I'd just never had a keyboard good enough to find this out!
(Not that the QX25 is a super amazing keyboard, mind; it used to be the "good enough" sub-$100 25-key model, and I found mine at a thrift store, covered in kids' stickers and glitter, for $15. But I'd previously used with this, at best, sub-$100 49-key keyboards, or even the Rock Band keytar, so it's not surprising that none of them had aftertouch!)
