“ALTERED TRANSLATION”

Chicago artist James Jankowiak creates “abstract paintings that explore color, simple form, and visual rhythm.” In 2017 Jankowiak prepared for a show at @CornerChicago Gallery, located in the site of 1905 Polish grocery store at Drake and Milwaukee Avenues in Chicago, by creating this mural on the building. Keeping the spirit of another mural that used to occupy this space Jankowiak was committed to using butterflies, representing “migration, development, transformation, life, and death.” In addition to creating his own art Jankowiak has long been committed to teaching Chicago youth through local arts organizations and in hiring some assistants to help him on this project he was able to bring together some of his previous students from low-income neighborhoods where art opportunities are limited.  @jamesjankowiak
