the library of xalphina was supposed to be a great repository of knowledge - but the antiquated methods of data storage could scarcely be read, let alone truly understood by ghost. ( the information was erratic and esoteric - it would require much more research to parse through. ) but this one human in particular seemed to understand at least a portion of the information here, judging by how he was recording his thoughts.
ghost had been watching this human for several minutes - first at a distance, then steadily drawing closer every few seconds. though their weapons and radar jamming had somehow been deactivated and confiscated ( an alarming occurrence in and of itself ), their ability to walk along most surfaces had remained untouched, apparently. slowly walking along the wall, they watched in curiosity as the man seemed to speak into a small ... coin? how odd ...
when he set the object down to sift through a few books, ghost reached out to grab it from the table. they held it delicately between their spindly fingers, examining it closely and trying to discern how it worked - and archiving it.

“ a ‘blood donation’... ” he repeated the phrase with amusement bordering on condescension as he looked barry over. " yes, donating all of your blood to a normal human for...average human purposes. what a good samaritan. ” he had to assume that his power of suggestion and hypnosis was returning to him in strength that he’d never witnessed before, for the man to offer up his very blood so casually after he very nearly made another citizen of this strange city his victim.
( in fact, how did this human not witness it - for him to stumble so serendipitously onto the scene, only to scare the first would-be victim away? )
after a moment, he paused and seemed to reconsider-  ultimately giving a small sigh partially in annoyance, partially of defeat. “ oh - forget it! i am not 'tricky’. it’s no fun like this. i’m not in the mood now. ” he lifted his hand and waved it in front of barry’s face to free him of a power that, as of right now, was purely in his imagination. “ i release you of my dark powers, human. ” while his tone was perhaps slightly overdramatic, his expression indicated that he was absolutely serious and believed that he had been in control.

“ excuse me, “ bazhur moved to tap the other on the shoulder to gain his attention, but then looked at his hand - skeletal, resembling talons rather than fingers - and thought better of it. he cleared his throat instead, awkwardly glancing at his phone and holding it out to the other citizen, who he had just seen using his phone quite casually. “ they, ah, they informed me that i could find my assigned home with this. and my ‘dust’ amount. “
it seemed that everyone here knew how to use the myriad of unfamiliar machines and tools, but bazhur was at a loss. this was so different than any city he’d ever visited, and it was becoming quite apparent he was far beyond any plane of his knowledge. “ would you mind showing me how to use this? ” it felt awkward asking a complete stranger for help - especially because the roles were often reversed. “ this is all very new to me. ” he admitted with a sheepish laugh and attempting to ‘smile’, though his skeletal face ended up merely baring more sharpened teeth than normal. ( he’d have to work on that, he noted. )

why did humans like to stare so much - like it was a damn hobby or something? it knew that they were staring at it. humans didn’t think it could notice or care. then again, making stupid assumptions was kind of what humans did, and why they needed bot-human constructs to prevent them from killing each other most of the time. maybe that was why it was brought here. or maybe this all was just a way to test it - to see how far it could be pushed before it accidentally gave away that it was a rogue SecUnit. both options sounded equally as outlandish and unlikely, and murderbot desperately wished that it could just go back into its cubicle and ignore everyone and everything here.

especially this fucking human who seemed fascinated by it for some reason!
making sure to move its line of sight straight ahead and nowhere near meeting the eyes of the stranger, murderbot’s buffer of pre-programmed responses spoke up for it. “ this unit is currently under contracted orders. attempting to interfere with these orders may result in actions potentially including - but not limited to - bodily harm against your person, fines against your employer, death, and/or charges for any damage done to the property of contracted clients. ” that usually scared people away. it didn’t exactly have any orders here yet, and even if it did there was nothing besides its own uncertainty making it follow them. but it was a decent bluff, and hopefully enough to be left alone.
