However, there are other little treasures from the Lost & Found vault he keeps in his domain. Lost and discarded things from the living world make their way into his domain all the time. Keys, wedding rings, umbrellas, clothes, and wallets and passports end up in his domain. And socks, lots of mismatched socks missing their mate.

Not all of them potentially have use. What good is a smartphone to him, when electricity doesn't work in his domain? No, these are simple things, things that do not require batteries or electricity, or complicated parts to work.

So, in addition to the above things, there are:

A travel-size sewing kit - self-explanatory, if you're Murat.

A blackjack - the smallsword and pistol are preferred, but not necessarily practical, especially if you're in a cramped space. A blackjack is a close-quarters weapon of the last resort.

A folding penknife - the sewing kit scissors won't do in every instance, but neither will a dagger.

Valuables - A small pouch of loose gemstones fallen out of their settings and lost by their original owners and now in Murat's possession. Diamonds, emeralds, sapphire, opals. Some gold and silver jewelry that he came by the same way. A few gold coins left behind by a helpful Roman centurion centuries ago, and maybe even a few coins bearing the profile of the King of Naples himself. These things might come in handy if they need to trade for goods.

A small camp mirror and a small bar of soap - Again self-explanatory, if you're Murat.

One of those really nice travel coffee mugs that keeps drinks cold/hot with a lid and a rubberized bottom - Now this is an indulgence, and Murat would admit as such. A lot of inventions from the times long after he died can leave him baffled, but this is one he can get behind.

A pack of playing cards - at the very least, he can keep himself and others entertained. And if he needs to gamble out of necessity, he's got the tools at hand.

A folding umbrella, but in a completely impractical color. What's the problem with fuchsia? He likes it!

Sunglasses - This may seem like an odd choice, but Murat remembers the road to Moscow, when the dust was thick and choking. Men would cut makeshift goggles and fashion protective eyewear for themselves out of stained glass windows looted from churches. He remembers the endless, killing glare of the sun on Egyptian dunes. Murat remembers all this and he snags a pair of wrap-around sport sunglasses for himself. Even if he doesn't end up needing it for practical reasons, he can look nice. There's plenty of pairs, however, and he ends up packing one for each man in the party.

Finding a pair for Davout is a bit of a challenge though. Murat personally doesn't care, but it also wouldn't do to have the Iron Marshal out of action. The man can't see without his spectacles and finding sunglasses that fit over them isn't easy. Among his piles of knickknacks and lost treasures, Murat finds ski goggles for Davout with a baby pink mirror finish.

When it comes to choosing a wardrobe, Murat not the most practical dresser. He never has been. Who needs to be when one needs to look good? He digs around in his Lost & Found vault, and settles for flared, pinstripe pants, a green and red floral shirt in a pattern he's been told is called "Hawaiian," a wide belt with a sliver and turquoise buckle, and a couple of layered beaded statement necklaces. Knee high leather boots, good for walking and riding. This is all topped off with a white cowboy hat and a leopard print coat. And feathers. Can't forget the feathers.

He is, as an outside observer might comment, a vision in psychedelic boho acid punk. Because he is Murat, and he will not go into battle dressed as a plain peasant. Nope, that just won't do.

Ashton would defiantly be that one partner who would unflinchingly wear Fearne's home-made jewelry/ribbons.

Here's this literal punk rock with the massive opal headwound, gold scars and a giant ass glass hammer, but yet their also wearing a macaroni and plastic bead necklace that looks as if it was made by a third grader. Or better yet, the same kind of baby pink ribbon that their partners flaming monkey wears.

There was something…familiar about this place… Mattie couldn’t exactly explain it, but she could swear that she’s been here before. Almost like she’d seen this place in a dream or distant memory. It felt strange and somehow bitter sweet. Frowning to herself, she followed the other hulks out of the ship. The air outside was hot and humid, a welcome change from the cold recycled air on the ship. She could smell the ocean along with a sweet, rich floral scent.

They landed near a small beach, now deserted aside from them and few strange looking magenta and violet birds. The sand was white as snow and fine as stardust but it had a strange, shimmery, almost mirror like quality to it, as if was made from ground opals. The ocean looked unnaturally blue. It reminded Mattie of a type of candy A-bomb had shared with her once. A part of her wondered if she were to go in, would it dye her skin like the candy had done to her mouth?

“Mattie knows this place…” Absentmindedly, Mattie touched a delicate gold and teal flower growing on a nearby tree.

“I can see them just up ahead. Should I alert the rest of the guards, Mother?”

“No, no, not yet. They could be peaceful, it’s best to go see what they want and get them out of h-“ Lana froze.

“Mother? Are you alright?”

“Nellie…she’s here…”

“Who’s here? Wait, do you mean-“

“Goddess be praised, my baby is alive!”

Mattie was prepared for the worst when she saw the two figures running towards her. She was used to people thinking her and her family were monsters at this point. However much to her surprise, they were…hugging her? Crying and smiling, and saying things that blended in with their cries.

The older of the two women had periwinkle blue skin and long purplish pink hair pulled back with a beaded teal headband with flower shaped charm attached to it. She looked to be somewhere in her forties. Her eyes were pale yellow, reptilian, much like those of a snake or a lizard. She had patches of royal blue scales that covered her body and parts of her face. Specifically her forehead and below her left eye. She wore a simple white sundress accented with gold.

The younger one appeared to be around Rick’s age. Her skin was a muted greenish blue, littered with old scars, and her jade hair was shaved on one side. Like the older woman she had pale yellow eyes and scales, though her’s were emerald green. She had two patches of scales on each side of her jaw. She wore a loose baby blue top with yellow embroidery that tied at the shoulder, teal pants, and a necklace with a pale pink flower charm on it.

“Um…Hulk…weird sparkly ladies are hugging Mattie. What should Mattie do?” Mattie asked, giving him a pleading look.

Still…as confused as she was, something about them seemed familiar too…

Pierce and I part 8

Hey so this is a lovely little detour to put the spotlight on Bro and Darcy a little (laying some foundation here because they’re my little otp and when they grow up they’re totally getting together) And I would like to (apologize? I guess) say that finding a young orc boy that I like was IMPOSSIBLE. So what I did was take a picture from Pintrist of Alex Ruygrok ((which that last name is pretty orcish already if you ask me)) and manipulated it TO HELL. And I had to use two seperate photo manip apps to get it to that and I am not a photo manip...person..at all. So if it looks horrible, I’m sorry I’m brand spanking new to it and I tried my best. But Bro is still adorable. So I know this is short but I wanted to show case this moment and this mood board because the next mood board will be full of wedding stuff and it won’t all fit. (the collage app I use only lets me use a max of 18 pictures at a time) So, enjoy. @royale-skeleton-key this is dedicated to you because we talked about this while I was dealing with a funeral and it was the only thing that got me and my santiy through it. (because family funerals are just so much fun (sarcasm)).

So here you go. 

Part 8

Bro took over an hour describing exactly what he wanted, commissioning Zorfu for a very special bead just for Darcy, using several beads in the store to use as a basis, from the color to the size to different elements he wanted in it and Zorfu had thankfully watched Darcy close enough when she was in his store and had been able to read her tastes pretty well and guided Bro’s decisions a little, to make sure the colors would strike her fancy. It would be the most beautiful delicate pink and purple bead ever with glittering elements and tiny synthetic pink opals swirled in. It took all of Bro’s savings and then some. But Dura was adamant that Bro get the perfect bead for Darcy to help him keep an edge on his competition and so she happily paid the difference as well as all the other beads Bro picked out for her.

But until it would be ready, Bro spent the weekend with you again, this time, you taking him with you to your grandmother in law’s farm and taking him horseback riding, you put him on your horse while you rode Jimmy’s horse who hadn’t been ridden in a while while Pierce rode Jimmy’s brother James’ horse and to your relief, all the horses behaved as Darcy did her best to teach him what she already knew since you had gotten her formal riding lessons and it was such a wonderful afternoon.

“Did I tell you we’re getting chicks?” Darcy told Bro eagerly as they rode side by side on the trail with you leading them a little.

“Chicks?” Bro repeated in confusion.

“Yeah chicks, baby chickens?” Darcy clarified.

“Oh! Uh, when?” Bro asked.

“When we get back from the cruise.” Darcy informed him excitedly since your honeymoon was going to be a family affair, a Disney cruise to Hawaii.

“Oh, do you like chickens?” Bro inquired.

“I love chickens! We’ve done it before, back when we got my grandma chickens, we helped to raise them but this time, they get to be ours, the brooder is going to be in our living room underneath the kafir lime tree.” Darcy explained. “But you have to be really careful and super gentle with the chicks though.” Darcy explained. “But would you want to help me name them?” Darcy inquired curiously and Bro’s heart skipped a beat at the thought of something else they could name together but he pushed the thought from his head, he would have to wait for at least a decade before he could really think about that.

“I’d love to.” Bro answered earnestly as Pierce gave you a meaningful look as he rode next to you.

When the bead was done a few days later, Bro couldn’t wait to present it to Darcy.

“You know, that would look great on a necklace.” Zorfu hinted as Bro ‘oohed’ in realization before he went over to the delicate necklace chains and picked out a delicate looking yet surprisingly robust solid gold chain and put the bead and several others onto it and smiled giddily when it was perfect. He could see Darcy wearing this. He could see Darcy loving this. He smiled so proudly and practically strut into school the next morning too, the necklace safely in the bag in his pocket with his hand securely around it and when he saw her, she was of course surrounded by his friends but also his competition and smuggest smirk crossed his lips.

“Good morning Darcy, I got you something.” Bro beamed proudly.

“You did? What did you get me?” Darcy asked giddily and her smile was already bright and melting him.

“This.” Bro said as he pulled the necklace from the bag in his pocket and the look of sheer awed amazement as Darcy gasped and her mouth hung open.

“Oh. My. God!!” Darcy squealed and jumped up and down, her braids bouncing because the beads he had gotten for her already in her hair and it had been a point of extreme pride that Darcy seemed to wear only Bro’s beads and Pierce’s beads and no one else’s.

“I love it, I love it, I love it!!” Darcy beamed as she launched herself into his arms and the victorious smile he gave everyone else as he hugged her tight was epic and the feeling of pride and happiness flooded his senses as he started to feel a little love drunk and super giddy himself. She loved it, that’s all he could hope for.

“Put it on me.” Darcy requested as she practically ripped her choker off her neck and turned around so he could put it on her as Bro eagerly put it on her.

“Ooh! This will match my dresses for the wedding! It’ll match perfectly!” Darcy realized as Bro’s eyes got wide as he hadn’t realized that before.

“It sure will.” Bro practically cooed to her.

Zorfu nearly fell off his chair laughing that afternoon after school let out when over a dozen boys all came into the store, practically shoving each other to get to the counter first as all their mothers cackled laughing coming in behind them, their behavior towards each other much more civilized and friendly and amused at watching their sons get their first experiences with a crush.

“Do you have any more of the beads that you sold Bro Dovok for Darcy Morris?! The Darcy bead?! The pink and purple one with all the sparkles?!” They all clamored desperately.

“I can make more, Bro paid quite a bit to commission it special- just for her, in her favorite colors and even had her favorite kind of opals put into it because the girl loves opals.” Zorfu tried to gently warn them before those boys turned around giving their mothers pleading looks.

“How much was it?” Their mothers asked carefully.

“A hundred dollars.” He informed them as the mothers grimaced slightly and had to nod in agreement to that price.

“Mom! I’ll do the dishes and the laundry for a month if you’ll have him make another one for me.” One of the boys, Zax, begged his mother before all the boys took his lead and offered to do all kinds of chores which got the mothers to smile and giggle as they realized this was going to work out to their advantage.

“Alright, alright.” They caved as they commissioned the beads too as they texted their husbands why they just dropped another hundred dollars at the bead store on one bead for one girl. And to their surprise, their husbands were cool with that because Darcy was all their boys could talk about since school started as they all had gotten pictures of Darcy, either n selfie form, begging her to smile or from a little ways away so they could show their parents ‘the prettiest girl in school’ and when you had gone to class a mystery reader, those boys had also gotten pictures of you and with you and of you and Darcy together to show their parents as well as their parents had to admit that you and Darcy were indeed gorgeous and understood why their boys would go after a human girl instead of an orc girl as those fathers then called their sons and urged them to win Darcy over sooner than later and do whatever it took to do it and even encouraged them to do better in their karate and jujitsu lessons because it was going to be the fights of their lives with the other boys to win her before they told their wives to get their sons the really large and really good fighting beads for their sons as extra incentive.

When those beads were done, all those boys basically grouped together at the drop off to wait for Darcy to get dropped off. But unfortunately, you were running late and the boys had to get to class as Darcy came in just as the bell rang and looking quite tired and exhausted still.

“You know Zorfu started making that bead that Bro commissioned, it’s now called ‘The Darcy bead’ and it’s only supposed to go to the prettiest most amazing girl ever and you should definitely wear this one from me when I dance with you at your mother’s wedding and our wedding too.” Zax purred as he placed the bead on her desk in front of her. Zax was the first boy to start going through his growth spurt and was already head and shoulders above the other boys. He was already the biggest and fiercest boy in class, the top of all his fighting classes and already taken up boxing too.

Darcy though, was far from impressed and snorted a laugh before she outright started laughing which both surprised and infuriated Zax.

“No, if that’s what you giving this to me means, I can’t accept it then.” Darcy grinned, without a hint of sadness or an apology in her tone as she didn’t even touch the bead.  

“Why not?” Zax demanded.

“Because my mother won’t let me date yet, not for another ten years at least.” Darcy informed him. Grateful in that moment for that rule.  

“Well we could still be together, she doesn’t have to know.” Zax argued, completely undeterred as he towered over her and nearly had her leaning as far back in her seat as she could because she felt like he was going to try to kiss her and she didn’t want to get kissed.

“My mother and I do not keep secrets from each other.” Darcy frowned.

“Zax! Get out of Darcy’s personal space, now!” Mrs. Kilka ordered angrily as she read the situation from across the class as she was helping another student with something else.

“She’s my girlfriend though.” Zax announced as Darcy gasped.

“No I’m not! Don’t you dare go around saying that!” Darcy argued hotly before she took the bead and threw it across the room and it shattered on the floor.

“See? She said no, back off Zax!” Bro ordered as he had watched this unfold with knots bigger than his fists in his stomach, intimidated to intervene but when Darcy turned Zax down, he felt his courage rise and was finally bold enough to step in too.

“You owe me a new bead.” Zax snarled angrily at Darcy.

“Get away from me Zax! I don’t owe you anything!” Darcy snarled back and if she had hackles, they’d be raised at this point as she leaned forward as her face twisted into an angry snarl as all the boys gasped, not having seen her get angry before, they were both impressed yet terrified for her because Zax could really hurt her if he wanted to and while they knew she was strong, Zax was stronger, at least two to three times over.

“She said get away from her, so get away from her!” Bro and the other boys yelled at Zax as they tried to pull him away from her as the teacher came in and pulled Darcy away from Zax too and put Darcy behind her.

“Zax! You are not obeying the classroom rules, go put your name in yellow.” Mrs. Kilka demanded as Zax started to struggle from the other boys’ hold. Thank god orc boys tended to police themselves and each other to a degree.

Zax realized he would have to submit for now but at recess, he was going to get what was rightfully his as he shook their hold off of him and put his name in the yellow space before the teacher ordered him to pick up the broken glass from the bead, broken beads weren’t anything new, they even had a special broom and dustpan just for broken beads.  

“I’m not accepting any more beads if it means you think I’ll date you.” Darcy firmly told the other boys who tried offering their beads to her too before they had to agree to that so that she would at least accept them, glaring at Zax for ruining it for all of them so to speak after they did so. Darcy tried to accept the others with as much grace as she could and just put them in her backpack but still kept touching her necklace like it was her personal worry stone since she felt calmer and happier if she could fiddle and finger it and run her fingers over the beads.

“Thanks guys for stopping him.” Darcy thanked the other boys with hugs who had tried pulling Zax away from her which burned Zax up with jealousy especially when she hugged Bro the hardest and the longest as she whispered her thanks to him especially and buried her face into the crux of his neck and shoulder. “I still like your beads the best.” Darcy whispered with an adoring smile before Mrs. Kilka got everyone to settle down as Zax finished up cleaning the broken glass.

On the playground though, Darcy did her best to play with Bro and his friends, staying in the middle of them to keep herself safe from Zax who seemed to pace the playground, looking for an opportunity before Darcy excused herself to go back inside to go potty and Zax saw his opportunity and waited until Bro and his friends were on the monkey bars and distracted and went after Darcy.

“If you won’t give me a bead, you at least owe me a kiss.” Zax demanded as he nearly pinned her to the wall outside the restroom, his body caging her in.

“I don’t owe you anything,” Darcy maintained as she held her head up high and crossed her arms over her chest.

“Yes you do.” Zax growled angry. “Don’t make me angry, I don’t want you getting hurt.” He tried to guilt trip her.

“Then you’re weak. Because only you should have control over yourself, not me or anyone else. Your guilt trip and mind games won’t work on me.” Darcy maintained, praying someone would notice this and save her and it seemed Bro answered her prayer as he suddenly appeared down the hall.

“What are you doing?! Get away from her!” Bro yelled loudly.

“She owes me, go away or you’ll be sorry,” Zax growled before Darcy tried to slip out from Zax and the wall but he caught her by the throat and pinned her to the wall, cutting off her yelp as she clawed at his hand and started kicking furiously at Zax as Bro, in an instant, pulled the fight alarm and came running to Darcy’s rescue and jumped and punched Zax as hard as he could in the head as the teachers came running into the hall to see the scene. (Because orc schools had both fight alarms and fire alarms) and saw Darcy laying on the ground coughing and crying with her hands around her own neck as Bro fought Zax like his life depended on it before the other teaches came to pull Bro and Zax apart as two other teaches came to Darcy’s rescue as the hall monitors finally showed up from breaking up another fight from the other hall down a ways away.

“What happened?” Mrs. Jik asked.

“Zax said that I owed him a kiss and when I told him no he pinned me to the wall by the throat and try to steal one anyway.” Darcy sobbed. “And Bro rescued me.” Darcy added as all three of them were escorted to the principal’s office where they all told her what happened as everyone’s parents were called and Darcy tended to Bro’s wounds with the school nurse as her own cut on her neck was tended to as a bruise in the shape Zax’s fist soon bloomed on her throat and once the school nurse was done and they were excused from her office so she could tend to the other boys who had gotten into another fight but had, actually become friends because of it because most orc boys bonded during fights.

Darcy absolutely fretted over Bro as she insisted she kiss ever cut and bruise Zax inflicted to help him heal and feel better as Bro realized that Zax had broken a bead on Darcy’s necklace in pinning her by the throat since that was what caused her little cut on her neck. But the kissing of the wounds part- Bro was in heaven. Even though her kiss to his split lip hurt really bad, he didn’t care, she kissed him, on the lips, it totally counted as his first kiss and he hoped and prayed it would be his last first kiss. As he offered the same and kissed her neck quickly and discretely as Darcy giggled because it had tickled before Pierce and Kich were the first to come to the school since their work was closest as Darcy turned the dramatic water works back on and went running into Pierce’s arms and cried and sobbed and told him what had happened and showed him her necklace and the two pieces of the broken bead and the little cut on her neck under the Bandaid and it was Pierce’s turn to see red to see her bruised neck as he picked her up and held her tight as she clung to him and cried into the crux of his neck and shoulder.  

Kich though immediately noticed that Bro was in a wistful love drunk haze as he told his dad what had happened as Kich knelt in front of his son as Bro then confessed in a whisper that Darcy had kissed all his cuts and bruises and Kich nearly snorted a deep belly laugh because a love drunk Bro was the best thing ever. Then you came practically running into the school and saw Darcy sobbing and nearly went into a rage when you saw her cut and bruised neck and demanded to see the hellion who hurt your precious baby just as Zax’s parents came into the school to see you crying and Darcy sobbing as she pointed accusingly at Zax who suddenly shrunk down behind the principal who moved out of the way and escorted him to his parents who were both glaring at their son.

“What did you do?” Zax’s father Zuvuk demanded angrily as Zax’s mother Drada crossed her arms over her chest and popped her hip. Only accentuating her own pregnant belly as Zax’s little brother who was only two hung onto his mother’s leg.

“She broke my bead.” Zax offered in a small meek voice.

“He tried to give me another bead and said that I was dating him for accepting it and said that I needed to wear it to my mother’s wedding and would need to wear it at our wedding and I told him no. And he threatened to hurt me if I didn’t say ‘yes’ and I asked him to leave me alone and he wouldn’t listen and he followed me to the bathroom and pinned me to the wall by my neck outside the bathroom since he already caged me in with his body and tried to kiss me and broke my necklace and bruised my neck see?! He hurt me! All because I told him ‘no’. My mommy said I can’t date and when I told him that he told me to keep it a secret from my mommy and tried to tell him I don’t keep secrets from my mommy and he wouldn’t stop.” Darcy sobbed as she lifted her neck as Zax’s mother gasped in horror and glared at her son before she came over to see Darcy’s neck.

“I’m so sorry sweetie, it won’t happen ever again. He should have known better. He won’t bother you ever again ok? I’ll buy you another bead to replace the one he broke. I’m sorry.” She apologized sincerely before Zuvuk turned his son around to face Darcy and shoved his shoulder forward with pointed look.

“Don’t you have something you need to say?” Zuvuk growled at his son, ashamed that his son actually tried to hurt Darcy, the rule was, you never put your hands on the girl unless you had her permission to, when he told his son- do whatever it took- this was never what he meant or had in mind and he was really going to teach his son a lesson when he got home.

“I’m sorry Darcy.” Zax apologized. “It won’t happen again, I’ll stay away.” Zax offered lowly before Zuvuk loosed the base of the braid to let the handful of beads loose into his hand and gave them to his wife, which for an orc, was one of the most humiliating things a parent could do to a son that was worse than any spanking. It was both a literal and figurative stripping of honor just as Dura finally came into the school to see what had happened and gasped in shock before she went over to her son before she went over to see Darcy and see her neck as Zax was sent back to class and his parents offered another apology which Darcy accepted with surprising grace and they left to go back home and back to work.

“Oh you poor baby,” Dura cooed to Darcy before she hugged her and kissed her neck herself. “Don’t worry about your necklace, beads break, they’re just glass, it’s ok.” Dura reassured her. “But you can’t be replaced, I don’t know if you know this, but what just happened to Zax? That’s the worst discipline that can happen to an orc boy. When a parent takes the beads away, that’s worse than any public spanking or yelling or anything, it’s his honor and dignity that just got stripped from him.” Dura explained.

“If he couldn’t accept my ‘no’ then he had none to begin with.” Darcy maintained as she clung to you between Pierce and yourself.

“That’s right!” Pierce practically crooned proudly.  

“Thanks for saving me Bro.” Darcy offered to Bro again as she hugged tight again as you all watched as you really noticed how much Bro cared for her and it warmed your heart but filled you with a little bit of dread. Humans going into their teenage years were fickle, Bro would have to be very, very patient and steady with her.

“I think Bro deserves a bead or a few at least for saving you, don’t you think?” You prompted Darcy as she nodded yes adamantly to that.

When you picked Darcy and Bro up from school together, you and Dura just went to the bead store and Zorfu was both surprised and appalled to find out Zax had done what he did and replaced the bead that had broken for free in exchange for the broken pieces which he realized could easily be repaired. Then as a surprise, Darcy commissioned a special bead just for Bro, using his favorite colors which were also some of hers, rich in blues and lots of greens and flecks of gold and just a touch of glitter and a few very tiny but very vivid blue and green opals included in it which Bro was perfectly ok with, he would proudly wear whatever she had made for him. Even if it was the brightest Barbie pink.
