On June 6–9, citizens of the 27 member countries of the European Union will vote to elect their representatives to the European Parliament. The 705-member body, based in Brussels, Belgium, and Strasbourg, France, has little real power: it cannot initiate a legislative procedure, nor can it pass the EU’s budget, since these powers rest with the unelected European Commission. It is more of a fig leaf for the EU bureaucracy. As a result, public interest in the elections is modest, and turnout in 2019 was just about 50 percent. In each country, voters choose between different slates of candidates from national political parties, who in turn form European alliances. Over the years, a number of Trotskyists have been elected to Brussels, including Alain Krivine from the Revolutionary Communist League (LCR) of France from 1999 to 2004, and Paul Murphy from the Socialist Party of Ireland from 2011 to 2014. Despite the EU’s fundamentally antidemocratic character, the elections offer an important opportunity to voice opposition to capitalist policies, and to spread revolutionary ideas. The CRT slate is headed by Pedro Castilla, a student at the University of Barcelona, and Lucía Nistal, a precariously employed lecturer at the Autonomous University of Madrid. The Revolutionary Workers Current (CRT) is running in the European elections with a program “for an anti-capitalist and socialist solution.” To start off, tell us about the situation in Europe right now. Pablo Castilla: The situation is marked by the genocide against the Palestinian people — a massacre of over 36,000 people — with the complicity of our imperialist governments. All the governments of Europe aligned themselves with Israel from the very first minute. The Spanish government of Pedro Sánchez, which likes to present itself as “the most progressive in history,” has now recognized a Palestinian state — but it hasn’t even considered breaking off diplomatic relations with Israel. Young people around the globe are rising up in solidarity with Palestine. Thousands of young people are joining encampments at universities around the world. We are part of this new youth movement, and attempting to link it up to the working class and to the feminist movement, to say “basta” to capitalist barbarism. Lucía Nistal: The last few years in Europe have been turbulent. We have had more than two years of a major land war in Ukraine, with thousands of people killed and millions displaced. Every day, militaristic speeches tell us to prepare for war. All European states are raising their military budgets, with 33 billion euros of military aid sent to Ukraine. The entire Spanish government supported this policy, including the social democratic PSOE and the supposedly left-wing coalition Unidas Podemos. In 2023, the Spanish military budget was equivalent to all social spending combined. The CRT is running for the first time in European elections. Why did you decide to take this step? PC: Because it’s time to raise our voices. The EU is on an increasingly reactionary path. We want our slate in the European elections to raise an alarm. We want to give a voice to the young people rebelling against genocide, to working-class women, and to immigrants. Our goal is for this candidacy to contribute to the formation of an anti-capitalist and socialist left-wing force defending the idea that another future is possible. LN: On the CRT slate, 60 percent of candidates are under 27. We wanted Pablo, age 24, to be the top candidate because he is part of this new generation fighting on university campuses around the world. This candidacy shows that we are not satisfied with the “lesser evil” — we want a political alternative to the Europe of capital, one that is not only against the Far Right, but also against the center-left alternatives, which are really just more of the same.

Another day, another stress just kidding, This is my first time creating tumblr account and I decided na mag taglish since my english is not that good but basta yun na yon. When I woke up nagising ako then ako po yung batang malakas magpuyat at the same time maagang nagigising ( the duality ), Nagising ako around 7.00 am napaka-aga eh 2:00 pm pa naman start ng class namin every monday #anakniLord and nagtanong tanong pa po ako kung nakagawa na ba yung ibang classmate ko ng Tumblr since monday raw po yung start kaya gumaya ako at gumawa na ren ako. Totally wala pa po akong maisip kung ano yung gusto kong ilagay sa blog na ito and I decided na yung mga nangyari na lang saken buong araw, mga natutunan ko, at kung pano ko haharapin tong Senior Highschool life. Nagdaan ang ilang mga subjects and more on discussion talaga and dumating na yung pinaka exciting part which is uwiannn joke, bago pa ako makauwi eh nakasalubong ko si Gamboa ( anak mo ren last sy Sir ) and kamustahan since lumipat na sya ng school. Pag kauwing pagkauwi eh ginawa ko na agad yung hindi ko pa natatapos na takdang gawain dahil hindi ko sya nagawa gawa ng tinatamad ako and that's very wrong natapos ko naman and ngayon 11:05 pm na at nais ko ng ibahagi ang aking natutunan ngayong araw. May mga bagay na bigla bigla na lang dadating sa buhay naten bilang isang tao, mga responsibilidad na maraming nagtiwala sa iyo kaya ibinigay sayo ang ganong posisyon, mga bagay na kailangan mong tuunan ng pansin ng sa ganon ay malaman mo kung pano at ano ang iyong magagawa. ABS-CBN: Bato to seek deportation of ICC investigators

Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Thursday said he would seek the deportation of International Criminal Court (ICC) investigators allegedly in the Philippines if the government did not authorize their entry.

"Kung hindi ninyo in-authorize, hindi ko ito harapin dahil kumbaga hindi recognized ng ating gobyerno, so what’s the use of facing them… I-report ko pa sila sa gobyerno natin na i-deport ninyo ito for (being) undesirable alien, dahil nakikialam dito sa atin,” Dela Rosa said.

[If you do not authorize them, then I will not face them because, so to speak, they're not recognized by our government, so what's the use of facing them... I'm going to report them to our government so they may be deported for (being) undesirable aliens, because they're interfering with us.]

Dela Rosa also said he is counting on the assurance President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. gave him during a dinner in December that ICC investigators will not be allowed to enter the country.

If the opposite happens, he said, he would describe the government’s move to allow the entry of ICC probers as “laban-bawi.” [back and forth; fighting and pulling back]

“Basta solid as a rock na sinabi niya sa akin na walang ICC na makakapasok dito. Yan ang pinanghahawakan ko," [Anyway, his assurance to me that ICC wouldn't be able to enter was rock-solid. I'm holding onto that,] he said.

Mayor Vico Sotto slams Brgy. Chairman Dietmar “Akaw” Romualdez for abusing authority and disrespecting traffic enforcers on his 1st day in office

PASIG, Philippines – Newly-elected Barangay Chairman Dietmar “Akaw” Romualdez was slammed by Mayor Vico Sotto after the former flexed his power badly on his first day in the office after he rushed to inform the personnel of Traffic and Parking Management Office (TPMO) that they are not allowed to conduct an operation to his territory and they should inform his office before doing an operation on his territory and finally, to make them release a motorcycle rider that is not wearing a standard helmet while possessing only a student permit after the said motorcycle rider called to his office for help after TPMO ticketed him on his road and traffic violations.

The incident angered Mayor Vico Sotto, who vented his frustration on a Meta and Youtube video by iNews Pasig. He said that Barangay Dela Paz Chairman Dietmar “Akaw” Romualdez was rude, disrespectful, and abusive of his authority. He said that he would not tolerate such behavior and that he would always support the TPMO personnel as long as they were doing their job correctly. He also said that Barangay Dela Paz Chairman Dietmar “Akaw” Romualdez should respect the law and the uniformed personnel. He added that he never intervened or asked for favors for anyone who was caught violating the traffic rules, even if they were mayors. He also expressed his disappointment with Barangay Dela Paz Chairman Dietmar “Akaw” Romualdez, who was the only one who refused to wait for the official date of assuming office and insisted on taking over immediately.

“Matuto siyang rumespeto. Gumalang siya sa awtoridad. Galangin niya iyong mga tao natin sa TPMO. Galangin niya ang Local Government of Pasig,” (He should learn to respect. He should respect the authority. He should respect our people in the TPMO. He should respect the Local Government of Pasig,) Mayor Vico said as he vented out his frustration on the incident.

Mayor Vico Sotto got angry and furious after he received the report of what Dietmar “Akaw” Romualdez, the newly-elected chairman of Barangay Dela Paz did. Barangay Chairman-elect Akaw Romualdez said that TPMO or the Traffic and Parking Management Office should inform his office before doing an operation on his territory and allegedly, he rushed to the scene where the TPMO personnel are conducting their operation and demanded to release the violation of the motorcycle rider who contacted him for help.

Mayor Vico Sotto stressed that disrespecting the government employees and the local government would not work on him.

“May kapitan na nandito sa Barangay Dela Paz. Unang araw pa lang na nag-assume office si Kapitan Akaw, ganiyan na kaagad ang ginagawa. Tingnan mo nagsabi sa TPMO natin, sinabihan ang TPMO natin na kapag mag-ooperate daw ang TPMO sa Barangay Dela Paz, kailangan daw muna tumimbre muna sa kanya. Kailangan daw mag-abiso sa kanya. Ang kapal naman ng mukha niyan. First day pa lang, first day pa lang ganyan na. Ano pa kaya kapag tumagal-tagal ‘to. Napakabastos. Binabastos iyong mga tao natin. Ako, mga tao natin, basta tama ang huli, sagot natin sila. Ako hindi pulitika ang pinag-uusapan natin dito ah. Kung panalo siya, panalo siya walang problema pero matuto siyang rumespeto. Gumalang siya sa awtoridad. Galangin niya yung mga tao natin sa TPMO. Galangin niya ang Local Government of Pasig.” (There is a captain here in Barangay Dela Paz. Unang araw pa lang niya, gumagawa na siya ng problema. Nakakahiya naman sa mga taga-Barangay Dela Paz. Later, Mayor Vico Sotto posted on his Meta account and clarified what actually happened in the incident. The content of his post are stated as follows:

“Baka hindi po malinaw yung sinasabi ko kanina sa isang “FB Live” ( INews Pasig yata yung nandun pero baka irepost din ng iba)….. 

Kanina, may nahuli ang TPMO na NO HELMET (at naka student permit lang) , tinawagan si Kap Akaw para di na siya hulihin– maya maya pinuntahan pa ni Kap ang mga enforcer natin (sinugod) para sabihin na Bawal sila manghuli sa Dela Paz kung walang abiso sa kanya. Maling mali po ito. Abuse of authority.

Pag may mali ang TPMO enforcer (lalo na sa kotong), tinatanggal o suspendido sila. Pero pag tama ang ginagawa nila, SAGOT KO SILA. Kahit mayor pa ang natiketan, pag tama ang huli, respetuhin.

RESPECT THE LAW AND RESPECT UNIFORMED PERSONNEL.”

uhm when was the last time we talked again? basta as far as i can remember, before election hakhak.

oh it's been 8 months already. inside those 8 months we never bother to talk again (jk uli, i blocked u pala sa lahat ng socmeds. ganon ba ko ka-petty?) i think it started with that argument, na medyo lumala. i decided to cut u off kasi ayoko na mastress sa'yo. that's how easily i can cut off people even tho we've known each other for like 7 years and being close friends for 4 years ig?

sometimes i regret i'm that kind of person but who knows

andaming nangyari. sa loob ng walong buwan. i'm still enjoying the course that i currently take which before tayo magcollege u also wanted to take psych pero napunta ka sa astronomy haha, i also had a job, was surprised kasi pauwi ako from work nakita kita sa jeep, i didn't know u are working also, pagbaba ng jeep i tried to talk to u or to open a conversation pero i know u are not in the mood to talk like hello? san ba ko kumuha ng lakas ng loob magpaka-casual after ko sya iignore for ilang months LOL. and recently nabalitaan ko na lang, your girlfriend is pregnant.

i miss the bond that we had before. pero okay na din, u seem kind of know how to manage yourself naman na and be independent. di na din ako mageeffort para mabalik yung bond or kausapin ka uli, nakakatamad. jk

I can't believe they almost made me make up for 60 hours when the whole rotation was just 58 hours. I understand that they are tired and probably pissed at me for not reporting for duty but it's not like I chose not to report for duty just because i felt like it. And it's not like my exposure to a confirmed positive case was just a few minutes or hours--I was exposed to my roommate so we LITERALLY live together, eat together, sleep together in a confined space. We technicay breathe the same air.

Kapag nagduty ako nang walang EC consult at nahuli na nagpaRAT na lang basta, mapapagalitan ako. Kapag di ako nagduty dahil walang swab ng Saturday kaya Sunday na lang, papagalitan pa din ako? Ang sabi no make-up for covid-related valid absences pero bakit ngayon biglang meron? Saan ba talaga kami dapat lumugar?

For the record, I sent them my swab schedule and even asked for our leader to confirm if they got my message because they just had me on read. I should also give them the benefit of the doubt since they might have overlooked our schedule and thought that I was supposed to be at the hospital by 7am when it was actually 7pm pa. Medyo passive aggressive din kasi yung tone ng message about make up which upset me because they didn't even let me explain first before sending that message for everyone to read.

They pride themselves for being the department with one of the healthiest environments but I guess it's also "every man for himself" right there in times of distress. I really wanted to include this rotation for the electives but I guess I should start rethinking my choices because it seems like I've already had a bad shot in there. I don't want to come back there knowing that they've already had a not so nice impression of me.

Proving them wrong would just be a waste of my time and energy. I never even wanted to pursue this specialty in the first place but I was actually looking forward to getting exposed to their cases because I was really bad at that subject during med school.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood that's why I'm saying these things or I was too sensitive for taking what they said the negative way. Maybe these would appear, yet again, like some random ramblings from an entitled millenial. I dunno...... I guess I was just turned off given the unfortunate turn of events.
