Today I had the pleasure of working alongside the lovely Claire Mazik at Purely Green Beauty & cruelty free/ clean makeup brand Jane Iredale in their beautiful UK Beauty Room for Indy Lifestyle.

We created a live video discussing how you can update your Spring 2018 look with natural makeup inspired by the current beauty trends! Pink Eyeshadow isn’t everyones go to but it’s definitely worth trying out to switch things up. Lastly SS18 trends were dominated heavily by unusual eyeliner. Deconstructed, coloured graphic. From Green pops at Missoni to more tribal looks at Ulla Johnson, eyeliner is having a moment. Although we didn’t get time to showcase this particular trend in all it’s glory we did discuss the benefits of the amazing JI Mystikols, showcasing the two new shades (below) Which would be perfect for recreating this trend :

Contour Kit in Warm & Cool

We featured these kits in the tutorial but I didn’t get a chance to say just how fantastic they are. My Dermacol Foundation Story

Have you ever suffered from acne? If you haven’t, you probably won’t really understand the degree to which it can alter your and really mess with your self-esteem.

I’m 24 and I’ve been dealing with acne since I was about 15 years old. It was depressing in High School when I would have a break out and I would try to fix cover it up with makeup as best as I could, but it kind of made me withdraw and I felt like kids at school were just looking at my acne and not at me. I even got a lot of comments about it from some of the meaner girls in my classes!

When I hit my 20s however, it somehow got worse! I thought it was something I was supposed to grow out of, but here I was in college and my face was worse than ever!

I tried all kinds of acne cover ups, but it was Dermacol foundation that finally helped me face the world.

I’m not sure if it was the stress of leaving home, my diet, hormonal changes or my busy college schedule that caused my acne to get so bad.

But, at times it was really, really painful. Not like, emotionally. I mean, the bumps on my face hurt! I hated going out and even had a hard time making friends. To really make matters more distressing, I changed my major (for the 4th time!) to Journalism. And I don’t have a desire to be behind the cameras, I want to be a T.V. reporter. Once I made that conscious decision, I knew I had to do something about my skin.

I began searching for a good full coverage foundation that would cover up my acne, but not cause me to break out as much. I also watched so many Youtube videos on tutorials and makeup reviews that I really learned how to best cover up my face. Thank goodness for technology! And I did look and feel much better, but my face still wasn’t smooth.

I finally went do go see a dermatologist. I had gone before, but they had just prescribed some different gels and things that didn’t make much of a difference. This time, I was very persistent and they finally put me on Accutane. If you don’t know anything about this medicine, it’s a really, really strong form of vitamin A and it completely dries your skin (and lips!!) out and makes you extremely sensitive to the sun.

The medicine made a drastic difference in my acne, but my face was really red, flaky (even peeling at times), and super sensitive to the sun. To add to the matter, none of the foundations I relied on would do the job anymore.

My face was too dry and the makeup looked cakey and kind of nasty on my skin. It would flake off and accumulate around the creases of my lips and nose, it was so gross! So, I started doing my research again and there was a lot of talk online about Dermacol Foundation.

I watched one of my favorite Youtubers do a Dermacol foundation review and I was convinced to try it!

She said that the Dermacol foundation cover is a full cover foundation that is hypoallergenic, has sun protection (which I need!!) and that it blended very well into the skin, without making it look dry or cakey.

So, I decided to give Dermacol foundation a try.

Where to buy Dermacol foundation?

Well,  I ordered it at example.com and it was like, super cheap. I mean, seriously, I was paying ridiculous amounts of money for makeup before, so I didn’t not mind shelling out less than 20 bucks to try something out. I was really excited when I got the product and couldn’t wait to try it!

When I first put it in my hand, I was just like “Holly fudge!” It was soooo thick it felt like paint. But, I remembered that everyone I had seen try it on Youtube used a very little amount and blended it on to their skin with a brush.

I put it on my very moisturized face with a brush and was amazed to see how it blended in! It covered all of my scaring and intense redness and made my face look super smooth!

I sealed it off with some translucent powder and faced my day. After a full day of class and work, I came home 9 hours later and my face still looked amazing.

Not only had the Dermacol makeup cover staid put all day, but it never smeared or flaked off and my face didn’t feel super tight or irritated as it had with other products in the past. I had seriously never looked so good in my life.

And, of course, a solution to my painful cystic acne. My face is by no means perfect now, because I have a lot of scaring and redness and still an occasional breakout.

My skin is really sensitive to heat and light and beauty products as well.

Circulating around the internet recently has been a foundation originally created in ‘Barrandov Film Studios’ in Prague for professional make-up artists and models which was later used in Hollywood productions.

‘Dermacol’ is a foundation that is 50% pigment. For reference, a pressed powder foundation is likely to have roughly 20% pigment, so it is a huge amount. The foundation claims to do a multitude of things:

Hide uneven skin colour and blemishes

Smooths the skin and gives a velvet matte appearance

Has SPF 30 and protects from the harmful effects of the environment

 Hypoallergenic

Waterproof

Having seen swatches on a few YouTubers, I decided to purchase the foundation for myself. I ordered it from a UK seller on ebay in the shade 207, it is important when ordering from ebay to check the reviews of the seller to make sure you’re getting an authentic product – I got mine for £10 and you can order it here.

I prepped my skin with my usual serums and moisturiser, but skipped out on primer as I wanted to test the longevity of the foundation by itself as I know some people do not use a primer.

I used a silisponge to apply the foundation to my face (I don’t like to get makeup on my hands) and buffed it out with a dense brush from Real Techniques. I immediately discovered that the foundation was incredibly thick in consistency. This doesn’t bother me so much because I like heavy duty foundations, but it’s worth noting that if you are put off by that, this isn’t for you. The colour appeared slightly orange as I applied it to my face but as I buffed it in it melted into my skin and looked much more like my shade.

My skin is naturally red in places with patches of purple discolouration. It’s generally oily with some dry areas around my eyes and I also have a lot of small spots and spot scars as you will see below:

The difference is insane! It covered all my imperfections very easily and I barely used any product at all. It comes in a 30ml tube which means that it isn’t a huge amount of product but you barely need a pea sized amount for your entire face.

I didn’t have to use much concealer because of the crazy coverage, but I powdered to set and went about my day, again I chose not to use a setting spray to test the longevity.

After 6 hours I took another photo, I found that between my eyebrows became quite oily (not unusual for me) and the foundation had rubbed off my nose because of me adjusting my glasses and the build up of oil. Although my foundation looked incredibly flawless everywhere else, so this tells me to take a powder to top up my t-zone throughout the day.

After 9 hours my foundation had become very patchy around my nose but everywhere else still looked matte.

Would I recommend Dermacol?

Yes! I think this foundation would be great for those of us who love to wear a mask of foundation, but maybe not for those who like a dewy light complexion. It should work for most skin types, but may need to be set for oily skin. I tested the foundation on my hand and run it under water and it didn’t go anywhere, so it appears to be waterproof. It definitely feels velvety on the skin but isn’t flat like some matte foundations, it does give your skin a little luminosity. By far the best thing about this foundation is the AMAZING coverage! I’ve never come across a foundation that covers all my imperfections without the need for concealer over the top, so it’d be great for those who are feeling self concious about acne or other imperfections

The Dark foundation color line is neutral - simply pick the shade that is closest to your skin color. Try adding a little Warm 3 or Cool 3 to make your foundation the perfect match for your skin!

Once you have determined whether you have cool or warm undertones, you need to decide the shade from your color line. No. 1 is the lightest, and No. 4 is the darkest.

Some general tips on color matching:

If you buy a color and are not getting the coverage you hoped for, chances are you need to go one shade darker. Move from a Warm 1 to a Warm 2, for example. If you wear Cool 1, move to Cool 2. The only exception is if you are wearing Warm 2. In this case, we recommend adding Warm 3 into your Warm 2 instead of jumping straight to Warm 3. There is a big difference in color between these two products.

Another common phrase that’s a sign for incorrect color matching is, “I feel like it looks chalky!”. If this resonates with you, chances are you need to move from the cool line into the warm line or vice-versa.

You know your correct foundation color, you have the misting spray and the foundation brush, but how do you actually apply the foundation? Since Savvy Minerals Foundation is a loose powder, application technique is very important.

My Final Thoughts On Magix

I ditched the Avon foundation I previously thought was my go-to and now I’m a faithful Chai shade of Avon Magix foundation stick. It’s medium to full coverage and does exactly what it says.
