Avantika Says Bridgerton Stars Charithra Chandran & Simone Ashley Made Her Feel “Seen”

The star opened up about Bollywood versus Hollywood and colorism in a new interview.

Avantika was asked about colorism within the Indian film industry and admitted that while it “is primarily one of the biggest reasons why” she’s “definitely always felt uglier in India” than in the U.S., seeing other actors with similar backgrounds, like Chandran and Ashley, achieving international success gave her the push to never settle for less.

“I’m South Indian, and there’s this perception that North Indian women are more beautiful than South Indian women,” Avantika explained. “And the South Indian women who do reach insane levels of success in India are very light-skinned—some have become lighter skinned. So seeing myself represented in Bridgerton season 2’s Charithra Chandran and Simone Ashley—beautiful, dusky skinned women—South Indian women— in Hollywood has made me so, so happy.”

“I have definitely found that the odds are a bit less stacked against me here [in the U.S.] than they are there [in India] because I can’t change my skin color,” she continued. “But I can convince people that I’m talented and that I deserve an opportunity or that I have a voice that needs to be heard.”

yeah, some of them are nice,, for moms and grandmas,, I like they mostly have female leads but they are very plain and perfect females uk, cause women are only pure and innocent and one sided they cant be complex and bleh..

but I understand if people have them as guilty pleasures, cause they were mine when I was in india and I miss them tbh THEY ARE NOT TOO BAD OKAY--

okay phew but lately some awesome movies have been increasing in numbers ngl, with amazing stories, representation is getting better!!! and the stories are inspiring and ATLEAST MAKE SENSE! they have plotlines other than: a fair skinny girl in a pink sari screaming "bachao mere hero mujhe villain se bachao(save me hero)" and then having a sexy romantic song where she is objectified the fuck out of her...

Some amazing writers Hitesh Kawalya, Gaurie Shinde, Anubahv Sinha and fierce actors and ACTRESSES!! like Ayushmann Khurana <33,, TAPSEE PANNU IS A QUEEEN, Swara, Richa,, I would say Kangana but shes being a peice of shit lately she is shit, her movies were good tho, but now she is shit absolute shit I hate it. I loved her, I looked upto her as an idol a perfect t feminist but nope shes been showing her real colorsately I cant even begin she is SHIT STUPID ASSHOLE-

So yeah, I would say cinema, cause it's getting better
