5 Practical Items on Amazon That Make Great Gifts! | for BrainJolt Media
I find gift giving hard. Oh, feels good to finally get that out! Wedding showers, baby showers, house warming parties, birthdays, anniversaries... It feels like it goes on forever! Then if you're on the receiving end, it’s worse. No one else knows what to give, so you get a giant pile of, “I have no idea what to do with all of this”.
So, you put most of it in the garage. It stays there forever, or you try regifting hoping you're not giving it to the person who gave it to you. Come on, don’t act like you’ve never done it!
Let’s end that now! There is no better feeling, in the gift giving world, than when you visit months later and you see your gift being proudly displayed and actually used! Here are my top 5 PRACTICAL gifts! In a rush? All of them are on Amazon Prime! We got your back!
We hope you find these products as awesome as we do. Just an FYI: We are a participant in the Amazon affiliate program and we may have additional affiliate relationships with some of the products featured here – as such, our company may receive a share of sales from links on this page. Prices on Amazon fluctuate so anything mentioned below might change as soon as we publish it!
1. Assassinate Their Toaster, Microwave, & Oven!
Tumblr media
via ninjakitchen.com
This beast is the Ninja DZ201 Foodi! An Air Fryer with 2 Independent Frying Baskets! My family had the classic 1 basket. When it finally gave out we got this Ninja, LIFE CHANGING! Now my veggies don’t taste like my kids chicken nuggets! I honestly don’t remember the last time I used my microwave, toaster, or oven. Seriously. I’ve roasted a whole chicken in this thing!
2. The Cold Weather Heaven Cooker!
Tumblr media
via InstantHome.com
This Instant Pot has almost 50,000 4.5 star reviews on Amazon. You’re definitely in safe hands! I actually received this model as a wrap gift on a production I worked on a couple years ago. I’m never coming back CrockPot.... Never! If you love slow cooker meals? Imagine having that same meal with all the flavors in 4% of the time. Now stop drooling! It’s real. I’ve even used this when I forgot to take the meat out of the freezer! It was still amazing!
3. Coffee Snob Approved!
Tumblr media
via Amazon
As a self admitted coffee snob, Nespresso is the business! I could never get on board with pods and pod machines. I always felt like it was substandard coffee. Then, I tried Nespresso pods! That thick foam you see in the picture is not fake! That’s really how this liquid happiness comes out of the spout. This machine reads a bar code on the fully recyclable capsule, and pushes through just the right amount of water. With one button. If Rolls Royce made a coffee machine. This would be it!
4. Spa For Their... Nether Regions!
Tumblr media
via HelloTushy.com
The Tushy Spa 3.0 bidet. Or as I call it, “The one thing I’ll grab even if there’s a fire!”. This is my number one! I’ve saved it until now because I needed you to trust me. If you give this as a gift it will be... really freakin awkward. Then one week later you’re going to get a call from your new best friend. (TMI warning: I know when a visitor has tried mine when I hear a loud scream, followed by uncontrollable laughter. Then they emerge a refreshed convert.)
5. For 11am, When Their Battery Is Dead!
Tumblr media
via Amazon
The Anker 622 MagGo is every social scroller & YouTube binge watcher’s dream! Let’s be honest, even with the latest battery upgrades most of can’t get to lunch without that “low battery” alert. The Anker requires no wires, magnetically attaches to your iPhone, and folds out into a stand! It comes in mint, baby blue, purple, black, and white!
We hope you enjoyed this list! Let us know what your favorite practical gifts are! Gift cards don’t count.

The Turning Point
The turning point for 22 Words was when Abraham Piper began posting funny videos of his children, doing silly things (This dad used to be a forklift driver—now his blog brings in $17 million a year). At this point his views skyrocketed. From 2008 with an average of 2,000 views/day, in December of 2010 he reached 200,000 views (roughly 6,500/day), and by March of 2011 he reached an amazing 1.3 million views (roughly 40,000/day) (Pardon Our Interruption - Crunchbase). Ever since the funny videos of his children being posted frequently, Abraham Piper’s views have evidently increased by an amazing amount. At this time, in March of 2011 Piper sold 22 Words to a Denver-Based Company called Ayuno. Piper says
“I will continue on as the blogger, and the content style will remain the same as it has been for the last year or so. But now I won’t have to worry about things like paying bills and dealing with a bunch of advertisers. I will be able to focus on my regular content and providing a periodic update whenever we do something cool at Abuyo.” (22 Words).
However, although Piper initially thought this was what was best for his website, in 2013 he bought it back because he “did not like the way it was being run” (This dad used to be a forklift driver—now his blog brings in $17 million a year). There are few instances of a CEO selling and buying back their business, this shows just how much Piper cares about his website. He did not buy it back because Ayuno was failing in terms of business, but because it was poorly managed in the sense that he felt as though the personal touch of his “fun hobby” was lost. The progress of his website is evident because “since then, Piper both hired his first writer and brought in a full-time partner and CEO Josh Sowin in 2014. Now, 22 Words has 200 million views a month” (This dad used to be a forklift driver—now his blog brings in $17 million a year). Buying back his company has paid off for Piper, although it was not easy. In 2014 22 Words became a division of Brainjolt, their parent company. He says he had some challenges moving to LA, where the parent company Brainjolt is located. He said his struggles were personal, and did not relate to the company itself (Pardon Our Interruption - Crunchbase).

Who are 22 Words’ Competitors?
Piper created 22 Words with an intention of entertaining people. On the website, a drop down bar says “People Saved” with the number of people who have visited the site beside it. This is meant as ‘people saved from boredom’ (22 Words). This is an interesting feature, that further separates 22 Words from its competitors. Some competitors of 22 Words are Refinery29, Buzzfeed, and Laughing Colours (also owned by Brainjolt). Refinery29, commonly known from SnapChat, “is an American digital media and entertainment company focused on young women” with a “mission to help people discover and refine their personal style” (Refinery29 Corporate). While still aiming to entertain, Refinery29 differs in trying to help people achieve a specific goal. Buzzfeed is a well known website that “strives to connect deeply with our audience, and give them news and entertainment worth sharing with their friends, family, and the people who matter in their lives” (About Buzzfeed), and engage a younger audience with video content like 22 Words. They are slightly different from 22 Words because they put more of an emphasis on providing news content rather than entertaining. Laughing Colours is “all about spreading happiness” (About Us, Laughing Colours) and appeals specifically to an audience in South Asia. Thus Laughing Colours aims to spread happiness and appeals to a specific group of people, while 22 Words appeals to a more general audience. Therefore 22 Words does have similar companies who are considered competitors, however they are unique and this contributes to their success.
