#But if this game gives us the Zygarde story we deserved to get in Gen 6 then I'm okay with waiting for one of these two to get a remake!

You know, I was expecting to see remakes of either Black and White or Crystal.

So with more news out about Sword and Shield, I think it’s time I break my silence.
First of all, the new Pokemon look nice (except Impidimp). The new characters are also fine. Not too crazy about the whole version exclusive Gym leaders, but it’s been done before and done well, so I’ll reserve judgment for when the game comes out. Gigantamaxing is just watered down Mega Evolution. We’d be better off just having Megas in the game (hint, hint).
However, and as you can probably guess, the crux of this post is going to be about the lack of a national dex, and all the many stupid arguments I’ve been seeing on why it’s a good thing.
The most common argument I’ve seen goes like this:
“You can’t expect them to just make new models for EVERY Pokemon and EVERY form, every couple of years, do you?”
This argument needs to die in a fire. No. It can die in a volcano. I’m gonna take this argument, and I’m gonna go Krakatoa on it.
No. I don’t expect them to remake the models of every Pokemon from scratch. I actually expect them to copy/paste them from USUM, just like they did going from Gen 6 to Gen 7, where the only Pokemon that got new models are the ones with Alolan formes, Zygarde, and the Pokemon that didn’t exist prior to Gen 7, all of which are the same models used in Pokemon GO, and Pokemon Let’s Go-
AND WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, YOU MORONS????
And yes I know that there are only 153 Pokemon in the Let’s Go games, but they still allow you to get the Alolan formes. And, AGAIN, these are the exact same models from Sun, Moon, and USUM copy/pasted over. That doesn’t make anything else I’ve said or am about to say untrue.
There is NO EXCUSE to exclude Pokemon from the games. There is NO REASON anyone should be defending this. There is not a video game franchise, IN EXISTENCE, that has BENEFITED from getting content cut for ANY REASON.
Mass Effect 3 got STORY-PERTINENT content cut from the initial release, and sold ON THE SIDE AS DLC.
Fallout 76, the one this most reminds me of, because of the blatant disregard for the fan complaints, is almost universally despised for how little of ANYTHING there is in it. Bethesda putting in a token effort by adding NPC’s SEVEN MONTHS after the games launch doesn’t mitigate the fact that they weren’t there to begin with. The difference here being, Bethesda lied and bs’ed their way into laughingstock territory. Game Freak? Out of the gate, THEY’RE UP FRONT about how little they give a shit about what the fans want, and that’s not how companies should go about PR.
Should I bring up Battlefront II, which locked classic Star Wars characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker behind a 40 hour grind wal? Or how it’s $80 deluxe edition STILL wouldn’t allow you to play as Vader without going through said grind wall? Whose loot box system was SO predatory, and SO obviously gambling, that it got ACTUAL GOVERNMENTS INVOLVED in a legal battle that continues TO THIS DAY?
THIS ARGUMENT HAS NO LEGS TO STAND ON. CUTTING CONTENT FROM GAMES, FOR ANY REASON, IS NOT NOW, NOR WILL IT EVER BE A GOOD IDEA.
Let me give you a better idea, if you still aren’t convinced: Imagine if, when Breath of the Wild 2 is close at hand, and Miyamoto announces that the map is half the size of Breath of the Wild 1′s map, has half of the explorable content of said remaining half, the graphics are on par with OCARINA OF TIME’S in certain areas, and they are up front about how they’re happy with what they broke? Would you not be pissed?
I don’t care how big you get. If you start shitting on the people who’ve supported your efforts and expect them to blindly follow you off a cliff, you’re not gonna last much longer.
Tumblr media
It’s not graphical or hardware limitations that are keeping some Pokemon out of the Gen 8 games. It’s laziness. Pure and simple laziness. And we as fans don’t deserve that. POKEMON doesn’t deserve that. NO FRANCHISE DESERVES THAT.
