Nous vivons dans une ère technologique qui évolue et se transforme sans cesse. Elle nous permet d’avoir toute l’information dont nous avons besoin à portée de main, et d’être informés instantanément de tout ce qui se passe dans le monde.

Mais ces outils puissants, bien qu’ils offrent de nombreux avantages, viennent aussi avec leurs d’effets néfastes.

On pense d’abord à la dépendance : les écrans sont devenus une extension de nos mains dès l’enfance.

Ensuite, à l’intelligence artificielle (ou IA), qui devient chaque jour plus performante. Elle automatise des tâches… mais pourrait aussi, un jour, remplacer certains emplois.

Et puis, il y a l’environnement : toutes ces innovations doivent bien venir de quelque part et elles doivent rester alimentées en énergie, polluant l’air et les eaux au passage.

Enfin, on pense aux problèmes de violence en ligne : le cyberharcèlement (commun au point d’avoir mérité son propre terme), les commentaires haineux, ou les vidéos qui circulent et qui banalisent — ou même encouragent — des actes violents.

L’Internet n’est pas qu’un grand terrain de jeu.

Pas vraiment, quand on regarde ce qu’on consomme au quotidien : TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook Video… du contenu court, rapide et addictif. De moins en moins de gens prennent le temps de lire un long article, d’écouter les nouvelles à la télé, ou même d’attendre une chanson à la radio (Spotify et Apple Music nous ont bien habitués à avoir notre musique tout de suite).

Et à l’école?

Une étude menée à la California State University-Dominguez Hills a observé 263 étudiants au cours d'une séance d'étude typique de 15 minutes.

Le verdict : même en sachant qu’ils étaient observés, ils ont été incapables de résister à l’appel des distractions. Dès les deux premières minutes, leur concentration chutait.

Au final, seulement 65 % des 15 minutes ont été réellement consacrés à leur étude.

Les 35 % restants? Notifications, distractions, perte de concentration et de temps, dans la majorité des cas.

Ces études mettent en lumière un déclin rapide — et inquiétant — du temps d’attention. Nous devenons véritablement de plus en plus impatients.

Est-ce que ce temps va continuer à diminuer?

Et surtout… qu’est-ce que ça veut dire pour les étudiants, les travailleurs, les futurs fonctionnaires? Un monde où plus personne n’est capable de se concentrer plus de quelques secondes, est-ce que c’est vraiment viable?
