Know About the Critical Aspects of Car Battery Charger
KNOW ABOUT THE CRITICAL ASPECTS OF CAR BATTERY CHARGER
Battery Charger
A battery charger, recharger, or simply charger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it.
Why is a Battery Charger important?
Several safety mechanisms are built into battery chargers to guard against overcharging, short circuits, and overheating. These safety features protect not just the batteries but also the environment and the operators’ well-being.
What is the function of Battery Charger?
The battery operates as an electrolytic cell while it is charging. The electrons in the cathode are compelled to return to the anode when the cell is connected to an external energy source. In the Vehicle Battery Charger – electrons are moving from the anode to an external power source. Electrons are extracted from the cathode on the other side.
Is Battery charging necessary?
To guarantee that lead acid batteries live out their anticipated lives, regular charging is necessary. It is a wise purchase. Purchasing a charger is more cost-effective in the long run than replacing the batteries. It is expected of cars to start when needed and to be dependable.
What is important when charging a battery?
When it comes to car battery management, constant voltage-current limited charging is optimal for achieving the highest possible battery service life and capacity, as well as an acceptable recharge time and economy. A DC voltage of 2.30 volts per cell (float) to 2.45 volts per cell (fast) must be delivered to the battery’s terminals in order to charge a sealed lead acid battery.
State Of Charge (SOC)
A battery can be charged or discharged. It is considered charged at a voltage value above 12.5, partially charged at values from 12 to 12.5, and discharged below 12. This state of charge says something about the charge only and nothing about the container of that can be charged. This means that if the battery has lost capacity. It can still be 100% charged. Temperature is an important factor that can be of influence in measuring state of charge.
Tumblr media
State Of Health (SOH)
Can the battery support the car as needed?
CCA
AH (Reserve Capacity)
We like to refer to it as the battery’s capacity or its health condition. It speaks to the ability of the battery to perform compared to the battery’s rating (CCA). When a battery is damaged and has lost capacity, the condition, the state of health has deteriorated.
You can compare the State of Health of a battery to a milk carton; if there’s a dent in the carton it can still be filled up to maximum capacity, and yet retain less actual content. In a battery’s case this lessened State of Health is often caused by internal sulfation.
Within state of health, besides CCA, we also take up reserve capacity. The traditional use of a battery, starting the car, requires a large amount of current at once. Today’s vehicles consume a battery with car electronics, like start-stop systems, at a low amount of current for a long period of time.

Which jumper cables to choose?
Tumblr media
Provide jumper cables for your car battery to protect yourself from a breakdown and take to the road with peace of mind.
Easy to install on the polarity of the battery, the jump start cables for cars avoid unexpected breakdowns before hitting the road.
Jumper cables to avoid dead battery problems
In any season, it is best to protect yourself from a battery failure with jumper cables. Essential accessories for motorists, they allow you to start your vehicle by connecting it to another. Sometimes called jumper cable clamps, they offer a certain autonomy before considering changing the battery.
Selection criteria for jumper cables
To choose the model corresponding to specific needs, we distinguish several families of products: jump leads 25 mm², 35 mm² and 50 mm². There are also sections of 10 and 16 mm². This measurement goes hand in hand with the amperage of the battery. For example, a 35 mm² starter cable is compatible with a 600 to 700 A battery. Note that diesel cars require more power than petrol engines.
Whatever the intensity requested, the use of an alligator clip for starter cable requires a minimum length of 3 meters for a simple connection. For more convenience, the contact surface should be wide enough to facilitate the transmission of electricity from one battery to another. The clamping force also ensures better current flow. It is recommended to choose an insulated clamp if the place of installation is difficult to access. Conversely, a battery on the front of the engine requires only a bare clamp.
1. Azdome Battery Booster
With an intensity of 800 A, the Azdome battery booster is a portable car starter. An excellent substitute for diesel starter cables, it allows the use of an autonomous charger without having to connect the clamps to another vehicle. The device is equipped with short-circuit and overvoltage protection.
2. Sakura starter cables
From 120 A to 700 A (amps), the Sakura starter cables are available in different intensities to adapt the power to the capacity of the battery. The length of the cables also varies from 2 to 4 meters. For optimal protection, these jump leads are sold in a semi-transparent carrying case.
Tumblr media
3. SÉBASTIEN LOEB Racing jumper cables
Made from CCA material, the SÉBASTIEN LOEB Racing jumper cables apply a nominal voltage of 12 to 24 volts to recharge the battery. With a length of 3.50m, they are suitable for 3 l diesel and 5.5 l petrol engines. These inexpensive 25mm² jumper cables are sold in a protective cover so that they could be easily stored in the trunk of the automobile.
4. IMDIFA Starter Cable
Complying with DIN standards, IMDIFA starter cables are used to start the batteries of 7 l petrol vehicles and 4 l diesel cars. Provided with insulated clamps, these 4.5mm 35mm jumper cables are protected by a CCA coating. This insulates the cables and avoids the risk of short circuit and electric shock.
5. OC-Pro brass starter clamp
The OC-Pro brass starter clamps are compatible with a 25 mm² section, which is equivalent to an output of 300 amps. The cable is tightened with one or two bolts for immediate operation. These brass clamps for starter cables have a large contact surface for optimal electrical transmission. On Amazon Easy to store and requiring no mechanical knowledge, jumper cables are a practical and reliable solution to avoid an unexpected battery failure at the start or on the road of your holidays.

Car Starter Motor Amps
Car Starter Motor Amps
How many amps does a beginner absorb?
A good starter motor usually draws 60 to 150 amps under no load and up to 250 amps under load (when starting the engine). The idle amplifier depends on the type of starting. If the amplifier is too loud, the choke should be replaced.
And how many amps does a diesel engine consume?
Diesel engines have a very high compression ratio, eg. 22: 1 and requires stronger appetizers. On average, they draw between 300 and 500 amps for average 2-3-liter car engines, while truck engines can easily reach 1000 amps at the first corner.
Do you also remember that an aperitif can attract too many forces?
Yes, the starter motor can break and consume too much power and not spin fast enough.
Why Does a Starter Consume Too Many Amps?
If the amplifier is too large according to the manufacturer, the starter has failed. Slow soldering or high energy consumption can also indicate that the coatings are worn due to a decentralized installation. A faulty engine can cause the starter to work harder or longer.
Is 200 amps enough to start a car?
Your starter is based on watts (volts multiplied by amps). At 12 volts, the motor needs around 200 amps. So, if you have a 300 amp battery, it should start a gasoline car.
How many types of self-taught are there?
The two main types of starters are manual starters and magnetic starters for AC motors, also called motor starters. The manual start is operated manually.
Is 300 amps enough to start a car?
You can easily start the car by connecting the ■■■■ battery to a voltage with jump leads. Jump starters have different amplifier settings. Some of these range from 300 to 3,000 amps, although most traditional models have between 400,600 amps. This is usually sufficient for most cars.
How Much Amp Draw is Too Much?
In fact, we suggest that a current draw of 25 milliamps is normal and anything above 100 milliamps indicates an electrical problem that needs to be fixed.
How much DPA do I need to start my car?
The standard recommendation is a battery with at least one cold wax booster (CCA) per cubic centimeter of engine volume (two for diesel).
What is the torque of a starter motor?
How many volts do you need to start a car?
Minimum voltage range to start a car
How to do a voltage drop test on a starter motor?
To check the entire circuit, connect the positive lead from the meter to a clean spot on the starter housing and the negative lead from the meter to the negative pole of the battery. Stop the engine and record the reading. The voltage drop on the negative side should be 0.3 volts or less.
What is a voltage drop test?
The voltage drop test is an electrical diagnostic method that can be used to quickly locate high resistance problems in a circuit. Digital Volt / Ohmmeters (DVOMs) can be used to measure the voltage drop across a load unit or conductor. Voltage drop is the voltage loss caused by current flowing through a resistor.
What is the normal minimum voltage specification?
The average welding voltage was 11.28 volts, with a minimum of 11.16 volts.
Can I use a higher amperage battery?
Can you test an aperitif with a multimeter?
Test the battery voltage with a digital multimeter or analog multimeter. A properly functioning battery will read 12.6 volts. Only the minimum is 12.3 volts. A working battery is important for testing the starter motor on the car.
How can I test my starter with jump leads?
With the ignition off and the transmission parked, carefully connect one end of the red / positive jump lead to the positive battery terminal. Touch the other end of the red wire to the positive starter connector. The starter motor should start / start the engine.
How do I get a starter to work without a load test?

How To Charge Everstart Jump Starter
Tumblr media
EverStart battery combines both reliability and affordability. So if you need a quick battery change on a tight budget but still wants to have that peace of mind for a couple of years, this battery brand should be considered. Rely on this battery name to power for vehicle, home and gardening tools, sporting or recreational vehicle, etc. That is aside from the fact that it is available in all Walmart stores making it extremely accessible.
About the battery brand
The link says it's a lead acid battery chemistry being used in that device. That type of chemistry does very poorly when sitting around idle. Periodic charges after each use and on a schedule thereafter will enable it to remain as healthy as possible, but even then, there's a life span of three to five years. For amperage, choose the amperage at which to charge the battery. Everstart chargers equipped with a 12-amp charge capacity will also have the ability to set the amperage at a lower, 'trickle' charge and 'medium' charge setting. Slide the switch to a 2-amp charge or 'trickle' charge, as this is the most effective means of charging your battery. Your jump starter is one of the tools that you need to ensure are sharp and ready to go at a moment’s notice. When your car battery is weak or dead, a charged jump starter can mean the difference between getting back on the road quickly and waiting for hours for someone to come along to help – or spending money on a tow truck or other service vehicle. But you should know exactly how to charge your jump starter and the safety precautions that go along with that. It starts with understanding what type of jump starter you have and how your particular model works.
Different Types of Jump Starters
There are several different types of jump starters out there.
The most basic of all of these types are the jumper cables. Although not technically a jump starter unit, the cables do the same job, but they require another vehicle to work.
There are also jump starters that plug into the wall and recently, there have been new jump starters on the market that are completely portable – some of them no bigger than your smartphone – that will get your car going even if your battery is completely drained. It is these portable jump starters that require charging and it is what this guide will focus on.
Why a Portable Jump Starter
So, why should you choose a portable jump starter?
There are lots of reasons to carry one around with you. First, you don’t have to rely on anyone else. You have the ability to start your car at any time if the battery goes dead as long as you have a charged jump starter.
The portable starters of today are so easy to stow into your car and so affordable that there is really no reason not to choose to have one. Some people even choose to have two, because they are inexpensive enough to get two, and they can be used as portable power banks for smartphones, tablets and laptops.
How To Charge Everstart Jump Starter
Choosing From the Various Sizes
How To Charge Everstart Jump Starter 1200a
The first thing that you’ll have to do is choose from the various sizes of jump starters that are out there. To begin with, you’ll want to figure out what kind of a budget you are looking at. How to make windows theme. That’s because the budget is going to determine – at least partially – what size of portable charger you are going to get.
The smaller, more compact jump starters generally cost more, but there are other features that affect the price as well. Rise of nations gold edition full download full. At this point, you basically want to determine what size you need and whether or not you can afford it.
Ensuring That Your Jump Starter has a Full Charge
So, That’s a little difficult to explain because every jump starter has a different method for showing whether or not it is charged.
Many of them will have an indicator light that shows when the charge is low and you need to plug it in. Some of the will have meters that show you exactly how much juice is left in them. Other jumpstarters will not have any indicator at all, although these are very few and far between.
Your best bet is to read the owner’s manual and determine how your charger tells you when it has a full charge or when the charge is nearly depleted.
How to Charge Your Jump Starter
Charging a jump starter is usually very easy. Many of them simply plug into a wall and you charge them for a few hours until the blinking green light turns a solid green.
Some, more exotic jump starters may have a different way of letting you know that they are charged, but most of them will just have a solid green light on. But not every jump starter out there uses the electrical outlet.
Other jump starters can be charged using the car’s cigarette lighter. With these, you need to make sure that you only charge the portable jump starter when your vehicle is running. That way, you know that the battery is being recharged even while it charges up your portable jumper. Again, check your owner’s manual or look at the specifications before you buy the unit.
When to Test Your Jump Starter
Everstart Jump Starter 750 Amp
You should test your jump starter regularly. One of the things that happen is that a driver forgets to check their jump starter, leaving it in their vehicle for months or even years, and then, when their battery actually does go dead and they need to use their jump starter – it doesn’t have enough of a charge to start their vehicle. You should check your jump starter regularly – when you don’t need it to start your car – and make sure that is it capable of giving juice to your battery; once a month is a good benchmark to use, although you can probably go every six weeks and still be safe as well.
Other Uses for Your Portable Jump Starter
There are other uses for your portable jump starter that you might not be aware of. Many models have USB plugs that can be used to charge smartphones and other devices. This is one of the reasons why it is so smart to buy one – or more than one – and have it in your vehicle in the case of an emergency.
Along with emergency supplies like flares, water, blankets and the normal parts of a standard emergency kit, you should add at least one portable charger. And our list of the best portable jump starters is just the ticket for you if you are still not sure about what jump starter to buy.
The bottom line here is that you start with making sure that you select a good jump starter and then learn how to use it properly. You’ll want to read the manual and know what the indicators mean and how to plug it into your vehicle to give yourself a jump start – as well as know how to recharge it. Make sure that you check it regularly so that it is ready to give you a charge if you ever need it. You can also use it in an emergency where you need to make a phone call but your phone battery is dead. This makes a portable charger one of the most useful tools you can have in your vehicle.

Jump Start
Needing a jump starting for the car is the kind of occasion where a person just wants to solve the problem quickly. Spending a bunch of time trying to figure out which device is the best one for the job can be challenging enough, never mind also trying to “buy on principles” like where the device is made or if the company practices solid ethics.
The topic of this post is a case in point for why I started this effort.
I needed to buy a jump starter for the car because the one I had no longer worked. Because this was not a topic I had researched before, I began a quick but focused search.
I sent out a quick request to some knowledgeable friends to see what they might recommend, but I knew I’d be doing my own homework as well.
Key criteria were that the device should:
1) Have more than sufficient power to jump not just my vehicle, but a large SUV or truck, in case I needed to use it for a friend or family member.
2) Work in the extreme cold and on a completely dead battery
3) Be made in the USA if possible and by a company that has a solid foundation of integrity and values
I realize this last bit doesn’t usually even come up for most people.  The competing criteria are usually price, name brand and/or credibility - what other people or reviews say about it.
Generally speaking, if my experience on a company’s website is easy because I can find exactly the information I need, answers to my questions are easy to locate, and the product line satisfies the need, it often follows that the company has the rest of their ducks in a row also.  Not always, but often enough.
Company origin is typically paramount, because it helps me know what I’m dealing with regarding standards. The United States and Europe have strict requirements in a variety of important segments, such as environmental impact management, labor laws, and safety and quality standards. I also try my best to suppose as local of an economy as I can.  So I start by searching where the headquarters are and where the manufacturing is done.
Given that I was in something of a hurry to get the situation handled, I didn’t dig as deeply into this investigation as some others, but the brands’ products I considered are:
1) Weego - US based company, manufactures overseas. I have another Weego portable backup charger for my cell phone and have been happy with it. This brand was a contender.
2) Duracell - I was unhappy with the corporate website design and the (third-party) website hosting all the jump starter products. I believe regular (AAA, AA, C and D) type batteries are made in the USA, but the presentation of the products lacked details. I was not motivated to investigate this further, because information was difficult to find.
3) NOCO - Immediate favorite based on the presentation of the products, delivery of information about the products, and ease of locating the information I wanted. Based out of Cleveland, OH, and manufacture products in the USA.
4) BeatIt - This was one of the first search results on Amazon, but I quickly found the website difficult to navigate, and a little research into the company found that it was a Chinese company, putting it geographically too far away for an exception.
5) AutoGen - Another product line that had good reviews on Amazon, but they didn’t appear to have a website of their own for information.
I compared Weego and NOCO’s products heavily to determine which would be the one I would purchase, and learned a bit about jump starter batteries along the way. The new lithium batteries do not provide a cold cranking amp (CCA) rating due to the different type of battery they are vs lead acid. The CCA rating can be calculated as about half of the max output amperage the lithium batteries are rated at - at least according to the Q&A on Amazon.
The one I selected is the NOCO GB50, because almost everything else was equivalent with the Weego options. The ability to charge peripheral electronics like phones and tablets is a great feature that all the new jumpers have, along with all the safety features like reverse-polarity protection and anti-spark technology.
I may revisit this post some time in the future to dig into the details of any aspect of this search, especially if someone has question.  I will provide an update on how it worked out for me as well.

Portable Jump Starter: Why They’re Important and Why You Should Get One
Tumblr media
You are traveling along a scenic highway in your car. There is a marvelous view of the hills and sea as you drive by. Everything looks amazing and your day is off to a fantastic start. All of a sudden, your automobile engine starts to sputter. You slow down and park on the roadside while attempting to restart the engine. A couple of clicks, then dead silence. The engine will not start. The hills and sea do not look so attractive anymore.
Getting stranded on the side of the road with a dead battery can be a nerve-wracking experience. Particularly if you're in a place with no mobile phone signal and passing drivers. That is why it's vital to have a portable jump starter at hand. With it, you can:
Easily jump-start your vehicle battery.
Save money on pricey road services.
Rely less on other drivers' altruism.
Having it makes you better prepared should you end up getting stuck again on the side of the road.
An indispensable tool
By now, you can see how important a portable jump starter is. It can get you out of a bind when a car trouble hits. And you don't even require another vehicle to jump start your battery. Simply charge it fully and you can feel safe you could get your vehicle to move again when the battery goes flat. It may also be a mobile power bank. You may charge your electronic devices like tablets and cellphones wherever you are. And if it comes outfitted with a flashlight, you can use it to see clearly at night and to signal for help.
The risk involved
Contemporary jump starters have built-in mechanisms in place to help avoid any potentially harmful situations from occurring because of incorrect handling of the device. However, there are particular risks involved whenever you're jump starting lead-acid car batteries. Explosions and electrocutions are real chances if you're careless in handling your portable jump starter. Always remember to:
Never let both jumper clamps touch or connect! Doing this can cause sparking, which may result in an explosion.
Learn where to attach the clamps. Red clamp = positive, black clamp = negative. Connecting the clamps to the wrong terminals is a major NO.
Clear the area of any flammable liquids and materials.
A Couple of things to look for
Power Output: Cold-cranking amps or CCA determines a jump starter's power. The higher the CCA, the more powerful a unit is.  But don't just select one with the largest CCA and call it a day. Selecting the most appropriate jump starter largely depends upon your automobile type. You can start a compact sedan with 150 CCA. However, full-size SUVs and trucks need around 450 CCA.
Safely starting your engine requires you to be aware of the specific amount of power required. Check the electrical part of your vehicle's owner manual and read your battery's specifications. They'll help you decide on a model that will deliver the perfect power output for your automobile.
Extra Features: Modern jump starters today include a large selection of features you can pick from. Here are some fantastic examples.
Air compressor: Typically found on bigger portable jump starters. This handy feature inflates your tires in case you're far from any gas station.
Flashlight: It is nerve-wracking to be stuck on the road at night. Even scarier if there is no moon and streetlights to light your environment! Using a jump starter with a flashlight guarantees that everything remains bright and gives you peace of mind while fixing your car in the dark.
Extra charging sockets: Some of the larger units may be flexible, using multiple power outlets like 12-volt charger plugs and conventional electrical outlets. Not only can they jump start your car battery, but you can also utilize them for camping or tailgating as well. The smaller lithium-ion varieties have specialty ports made to charge delicate devices. Others have more powerful 19V ports acceptable for charging laptops and other gadgets.
You should now have a good grasp of the value of owning a portable jump starter with you while driving. You'll never know when your car battery can go flat all of a sudden and find yourself stuck on the roadside! There is now plenty of different versions you can choose from. Many of them are extremely affordable, so you don't have to break the bank in acquiring one. Consider it as an investment and for your peace of mind if you are out on the road.

My Car Won’t Start – Is My Battery Dead or My Alternator?
What will you do when you turn the key, and your car won’t start? This is one of the worst sensations especially when there’s no apparent reason.
When your car loses power and won’t crank, there can be several reasons. The battery is the usual culprit, but there may be an underlying issue. Without finding the reason, you may find yourself stranded or at the mercy of waiting for roadside assistance.
autobahn-performance.com helps you uncover the reasons a car battery can die, how to solve the problem before being stranded, and who to call when there is no one around to help.
My Car Won’t Start and Battery Needs to be Jumped
When you turn the ignition key, the expectation is for the vehicle to roar to life and all of your internal electronics to turn on. When that doesn’t happen, it can be infuriating and require a jump to get your car going again.
When using jumper cables, the following will help you avoid electrical damage and personal injury:
• Check your vehicle owner’s manual for any special instructions or precautions before attempting to jump your or another battery. • Align the vehicles so that the jumper cables easily reach between the two batteries. • Inspect both batteries. If either is cracked or leaking battery fluid (sulfuric acid), DO NOT proceed! There is a serious risk of fire or explosion with a defective or damaged battery. • Extend and inspect the cables for worn spots, frayed wires, and loose clamps (avoid using the cables if they are in poor condition) • The jumper cable clamps are universally designated “red” for positive or a (+) sign and “black” for negative or a (-) sign. The battery posts will also be clearly identified in red or (+) and black or (-). • With both vehicles off, attach a positive clamp to the positive post of the dead battery. • Attach the other positive clamp to the positive post of the good battery. • Attach the negative clamp to the negative post of the good battery. • Attach the other negative clamp to unpainted metal on the dead battery’s vehicle, such as the frame, a bolt, or the engine block. • Start the vehicle with the good battery and allow it to idle for 2 to 3 minutes. • Start the vehicle with the dead battery. • Remove the jumper cables in the reverse order they were attached: negative from the frame, negative from the good battery, positive from the good battery, and lastly, remove the positive clamp from the battery that was charged.
Car Battery Problems and Solutions
The following are scenarios in which a car battery has lost or will not hold a charge:
Scenario 1 – You left a light on in the car or forgot to turn off the headlights and running lights.
This is the most straightforward scenario to fix and the easiest to avoid. After getting a jump for the battery, operate the vehicle for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes to reenergize the battery.
Solution: Before exiting the vehicle, turn of headlights, running lights, electronic accessories, or anything requiring a power source.
Scenario 2 – The battery is faulty, old, damaged, or can no longer hold a charge.
After getting a jump, operating the vehicle, and stopping, the battery dies again or has difficulty turning the engine over (When the car is in operation, the headlights and internal console lights will burn steadily).
Solution: Replace or have the battery replaced. Make sure the replacement battery is the appropriate size (BCI) and strength (CCA) for your vehicle make and model.
The two numbers associated with your battery are as follows:
BCI – Battery Council International or BCI group number. These numbers identify the physical dimensions of the battery. If the new battery is the wrong size, it will not fit properly in the battery tray or not be secured by the hold-down clamp or strap.
CCA – Cold Cranking Amps. This defines a battery’s ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. The higher the CCA, the greater the starting power of the battery.
Old Battery Disposal – Part of the cost of a new battery is a refundable core charge. Since car batteries contain toxic materials such as lead and sulfuric acid, it is encouraged to give the old battery to the vendor that sold you the new one for a core charge refund and proper disposal of the battery.
Scenario 3 – The vehicles alternator is no longer functioning, and the battery repeatedly dies.
After getting a jump, turn on the internal console lights and/or the headlights. If the lights brighten and dim as the motor revs up or slows down, it is indeed the alternator that is no longer sending power to the battery and electronic components of the vehicle.
Solution: Replace or have the alternator replaced by a trusted mechanic, then have the battery checked after replacing the alternator to ensure that it was not damaged while in use without a functioning alternator.
Some other potential reasons your vehicle may be failing to start may include:
• Fuel line interruption • Out of gas • Bad starter • Failed starter solenoid • Bad alternator diode • Bad ignition switch • Faulty wiring
Except for being out of gas, the above mechanical or electrical malfunctions should be addressed by a trusted mechanic.
Roadside Assistance When Your Car Won’t Start
If you find yourself in a situation where your car won’t start, and no one is around to help you or offer a jump to get you going again, roadside assistance is a mobile mechanic service that comes to your location to help fix most common mechanical issues, including the battery and electrical system.
Roadside assistance is offered by most car insurance policies and is a component of most service packages when purchasing a new vehicle from a dealership (time and mileage limitations may apply).
Many states also offer roadside assistance programs. The State of Georgia, for example, provides services through programs such as Coordinated Highway Assistance & Maintenance Program (CHAMP) and Highway Emergency Response Operators (HEROs), both of which can be reached by dialing 5-1-1 from any mobile device. Visit dot.ga.gov/DS/Travel/HEROs for more information.
Why Won’t My Car Start
A dead battery can leave you in the awkward position of relying on a Good Samaritan or having to wait for roadside assistance to arrive.
In this article, you discovered several reasons why a car battery may die, how to solve the problem, and who to call when no one is around to give you a jump.
Once you are mobile again, your next stop should be to your trusted mechanic to fix your battery problem. Procrastination for this type of repair may lead to catastrophic electrical failure within the vehicle or leave you stranded in a random location.

Fired Up: Battery Cable Upgrade on a 1967 Dodge Dart
We recently purchased a low-mileage 1967 Dart from Albany, New York. Over the years, electrical systems tend to be updated, either by a genius or a dunce, and the previous owner (fifth titleholder) had plenty of problems with the battery, starting, and charging systems on the Dart. His fix for the problems consisted of a new battery and limited usage of the Dart. Seeing that the Dart was rust-free, which is a rare occurrence in the Northeast, we jumped on the chance to purchase it, even with the wiring concerns.
Once the Dart was in our garage in Pennsylvania, we performed a visual inspection of the electrical wiring, and along the way, we developed a game plan to fix the Dart. Although the 273 engine would start, the large, gear-reduction starter motor labored greatly to crank the low-compression engine. The battery was only four months old, and while there was a possibility of it being bad, we felt that was improbable (testing would later confirm our belief). The battery cables weren’t the factory cables, and the cable ends at the battery were bolt-on temporary ends. The battery tray was in poor shape, and the hold-down was a cheap aftermarket setup that failed to hold the battery securely. Without any testing, we knew we needed a pair of battery cables, a battery tray, and a battery hold-down. We checked the Classic Industries website, and they had all the reproduction parts we needed. Before we ordered the parts, we tested the electrical systems to determine if any other electrical gremlins existed on our Dart.
To test our wiring, we needed a multimeter, a jumper wire, a remote starter button, and a SUN Voltage/Amperage Tester (VAT)-40 or equivalent load device to analyze the battery, starting, and charging systems. The battery was the first to be tested. If the battery had failed, it would have to be replaced before any other testing. If the testing continued with a failed battery, all the other test results would be invalid. To test the battery, we attached the positive and negative leads from the VAT-40 to their corresponding terminals on the battery. We installed the inductive pickup from the VAT-40 around the negative lead from the VAT. The lead acid battery voltage was 12.4 volts, which was within the specifications of 12.4 to 12.6 volts. If the battery voltage was below 12.4 volts, the battery would require a deep recharge before it could be tested. On the other hand, if the battery voltage was over 12.6 volts, turning on the headlamps for 30 to 60 seconds (engine off) would drop the voltage to the acceptable range. Our battery had a cold cranking amperage (CCA) rating of 550 amps (at 0 degrees F). To use the VAT-40, the CCA rating was divided by two, and that amperage value was loaded onto the battery by manually rotating the load knob on the VAT-40. The knob applied an external load via a carbon pile to the circuit. The load was applied to the battery for 15 seconds with the battery voltage remaining at 9.6 volts or greater (if the fully charged battery voltage dropped below 9.6 volts during testing, the battery failed). In our case, we loaded the battery to 275 amps, and after 15 seconds, the battery voltage was 10.0 volts. This test eliminated the battery as a problem for our slow cranking speed.
The next test we performed was a starter draw test, which indicates how many amps are required by the starter to crank an engine. To perform this test, the VAT-40 inductive pickup had to be moved to the Dart’s negative (or positive) battery cable. A second requirement for this test was to disable the fuel or spark so the engine would crank but not start. With most of our older Mopars, the secondary coil wire can be pulled from the distributor and grounded to an unpainted metal surface via a jumper wire. With the VAT-40 properly setup and the coil wire grounded, we turned the ignition key, and the starter engaged and slowly whirled the engine over. After the voltage and amperage settled on the gauges of the VAT-40 (about 6 to 8 seconds), we noted the voltage and amperage readings. The factory shop manual (FSM) listed the voltage at 11 volts, and the amperage between 155 to 180 amps. Our readings were 10.5 volts and 150 amps, so both of these numbers were below the specifications. The low numbers and the slow cranking speed concerned us, but none were extreme, so we noted our concerns, reattached the coil wire, and moved to the charging system.
To test the charging output, we left the VAT-40 leads in the same position on the battery as they were for the starter test. Our charging system had been updated with an electronic voltage regulator and a later-model alternator. The engine was started, the rpm was fine-tuned to 2,000 rpm, and the open circuit (no load) voltage was noted. We twisted the knob on the VAT-40 to apply the carbon pile load on the charging system. The load was adjusted to bring the system charging voltage down to 12 volts, thus forcing the alternator to apply the maximum amperage to the charging circuit, attempting to supply the amperage necessary to meet the electrical system needs. Our no-load voltage was 13.32 volts, and the amperage was 34 amps with the load applied. The no-load voltage should’ve been between 13.5 to 15 volts at the battery. The amperage specification was 31.5 to 37.5 amps; thus, our charging system amperage was acceptable. Because the no load battery voltage was only 13.32 volts, we connected our multimeter red lead to the positive post of the alternator, and we clipped the black lead to the negative battery post. The engine was again run at 2,000 rpm, and the voltage displayed on the meter was a steady 14.95 volts. We had lost (consumed) 1.63 volts between the alternator and the battery. We were closing in on the problem; it had to be either the positive or negative cable.
With our starter test results falling outside of the acceptable range and our charging voltage being a tad low as well, we tested the voltage drop (VD) of the positive battery cable. We again grounded the secondary coil wire. Using our multimeter, we connected the red lead to the battery terminal and the black lead to the battery cable end at the battery, and then we turned over the engine. The VD was 0.001 volt. Next, we moved the red lead from the battery terminal to the battery cable end, and we moved the black lead to the battery cable end at the starter. The engine was turned over, and the VD was 0.009 volt. Lastly, we moved the red lead to the battery cable at the starter and the black lead to the starter stud and turned over the engine. The VD was 0.002 volt. The acceptable VD of the positive side of the starter circuit is 0.5 volt. Our Dart had a total voltage drop of 0.012 volt. The positive side cable passed.
Next, we tested the ground side VD of the negative cable. The red lead of the multimeter was clipped to the case of the starter, and the black lead was touched to the bolt that grounded the negative cable to the block. The negative cable at the block was attached to the engine mount, which isn’t a factory installation point. The engine spun over, and the VD was 0.001 volt. Moving forward, we attached the red lead to the bolt where the battery cable attached, and the black lead was connected to the negative battery cable terminal end at the block. We turned over the engine, and the VD was 0.012 volt. Continuing, we moved the leads to each terminal end of the negative cable, and again we twirled the engine over. This time the VD was 1.6 volts, which was eight times the allowable VD for the ground side of the circuit. We could’ve tested the battery cable end to the battery terminal, but we had found our problem; it was the negative cable.
We contacted the reps at Classic Industries for a negative battery cable (PN MD2563, manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) $70.99) and a positive battery cable (PN MA2385, MSRP $142.99). A battery tray (PN MA2266B, MSRP $32.99), a battery tray brace (PN MA2267, MSRP $13.99), and a reproduction battery hold-down set (PN MA2462, MSRP $21.99) were ordered to secure a new reproduction battery (PN MD2467, MSRP $319.99). The battery is a yellow-capped, absorbent glass mat (AGM), group 24, maintenance-free battery that has the correct appearance for the 1965-1974 classic Mopars.
With the new parts on hand, we disconnected the battery cables from the battery (always remove the negative cable first). The aftermarket hold-down was removed and discarded. The battery was pulled from the engine bay. The negative battery cable was removed from the engine mount by unthreading the engine mount nut from the bolt. The nut was reinstalled on the engine mount because the new negative battery cable would be grounded at the factory location at the cylinder head. The positive battery cable was disconnected from the starter relay (at two points), and it was removed from the starter (also at two points). Completing the parts removal, four bolts were eased from the battery tray, it was pulled from the engine bay, and the battery tray brace was removed after unthreading one bolt.
The Classic Industries reproduction parts looked factory correct, and they all fit properly. The positive cable was installed first. It had the split starter lug and heat sheathing just like a factory cable, and it had the correct rubber insulator that properly fit into the bracket on the firewall. The battery tray brace was installed in the factory location, and the battery tray was laid in place. The battery tray was retained by three of the factory bolts and a new bolt that came with the brace. The ground cable was attached to the driver side cylinder head with the factory bolt that was not reused with the tray installation. Both the cables had the correct terminal ends on them. The yellow-top battery was placed on the battery tray, and the reproduction hold-down bracket and J-hooks were installed. The positive battery cable followed by the negative cable was installed on the battery.
Before we started our testing, we noticed there wasn’t a ground cable from the engine to the chassis, so we added a flat ribbon cable from the back of the engine to the firewall. Having a sufficient amount of grounds on a vehicle is the most important part of the electrical system, yet they tend to be one of the most overlooked parts. With our Dart, and more so with late model vehicles, grounds are unbelievably important to ensure all of the electronics operate correctly. Whenever a component is operating, but not performing correctly, check the grounds, and if necessary, add additional ground cables to the vehicle.
To test the new components, we grounded the coil wire, and the engine was whirled over without producing the laborious sound we had heard previously. Reading the VAT-40, we had a voltage of 11 volts and an amperage of 170 amps. Both of the numbers were in the acceptable range. We reconnected the coil wire and started the engine. At 2000 rpm, the no load voltage read 14.90 volts at the battery, and the voltage at the alternator was 14.97 volts. The VD of the charging system was 0.07 volts, which was excellent. Loading the charging system with the VAT-40 to 12 volts produced an amperage of 36 amps that was within the specification range. The battery, starting, and charging systems were now operating properly.
After the series of tests, the Dart is road worthy. Having a properly charged battery is required before any other testing. The starter must be supplied the proper voltage and amperage to adequately rotate, and the charging system must maintain the battery between 13.5 and 15 volts. If there’s a problem with the starting or charging system, performing voltage drop tests of the wiring involved with the circuit will place the spotlight on the failure. It’s on you to gather a quality multimeter, a load device, a jumper wire, a remote starter button, and a FSM, and then slip under the hood to diagnose the electrical problems of your Mopar.
Classic Industries set us up with two battery cables, a battery tray, a battery brace, a battery hold-down set, and a group 24 battery that features the correct markings and lettering specific to 1965-1974 models along with the correct yellow-colored top caps. All of the parts are reproduction components designed to fit properly … just like the factory parts.
The battery utilizes an absorbent glass mat (AGM) technology that offers not only enhanced performance and reliability, but outperforms factory batteries. AGM series batteries come fully charged (12.84 volts versus 12.60 volts with a lead acid battery) and ready to install. This battery is a maintenance-free top-post design with 750 CCA and measures 10 by 6-5/8 by 9 inches.
The positive battery cable features the correct lead length and markings. The cable is manufactured like the original, and it includes the wires for the split starter lug, the heat sheathing, and the insulator grommet to mount the cable to the firewall.
Both cables have the proper markings and the round head design, which is the correct style for our 1967 small-block Dart. The positive (red) cable end has a “P” cast into it while the negative cable end has an “N” stamped onto it. The hardware to tighten the terminal ends onto the battery terminals is the correct design to match the cable ends.
Our newly acquired Dart has a factory 273/2bbl combination. Although the engine starts, it turned over slowly when the ignition key was twisted. The battery was only four months old. The battery cables weren’t original, and they had temporary terminal ends on each of them. The battery tray was damaged, and the aftermarket battery hold-down was completely useless.
To test the slow cranking speed and poor charging output, the battery was tested with a Sun VAT-40. The battery had a CCA rating of 550 amps (at 0 degrees F). With the VAT-40 leads properly attached to the battery, the load knob was twisted to half the battery’s CCA (275 amps) and held for 15 seconds. The voltage on the VAT-40 dropped to 10.0 volts. The battery voltage remained above 9.6 volts during the load test. The battery passed.
With the battery eliminated from our list of starting and charging problems, we set up the VAT-40 to perform a starter draw test. The VAT-40 red and black leads remained on the positive and negative battery terminals, but the green inductive pickup was moved from the VAT-40 black lead to the negative cable at the battery.
To perform the starter draw test, the ignition or the fuel had to be disabled to allow the engine to turn over without starting. The older Mopars can have the ignition disabled by disconnecting the coil secondary wire and grounding it to an unpainted metal surface. We grounded the coil wire to the carburetor stud. We cranked the engine, and the starter draw readings were 10.5 volts and 150 amps; both numbers were below the factory shop manual specifications.
With the coil wire reattached, we started the engine. We were slightly concerned about the starter results, and the no load voltage (voltage at 2,000 rpm with all the accessories off) was only 13.32 volts measured at the battery with a multimeter (A), which concerned us greatly. The voltage should’ve been 13.5 to 15.0 volts. We moved the positive multimeter lead to the positive post on the alternator, and at 2,000 rpm, the voltage on the meter was a steady 14.95 volts (B). We had a voltage drop of 1.63 volts in the wiring.
The use of a remote starter button allowed us to spin the engine over and monitor the voltage drop on our meter. The positive cable was tested first. A series of three voltage drop tests resulted in a total voltage drop of 0.012 volt. The acceptable VD of the positive side of the starter circuit is 0.5 volt. The positive side cable passed.
With each voltage drop test, the engine was spun over. Using our multimeter, we connected the red lead to the battery terminal and the black lead to the battery cable end at the battery. The VD was 0.001 volt (A). Next, we moved the red lead from the battery terminal to the battery cable end, and we moved the black lead to the battery cable end at the starter. The VD was 0.009 volt (B). We moved the red lead to the battery cable at the starter and the black lead to the starter stud. The VD was 0.002 volt. The total voltage drop was 0.012 volt. The positive side voltage drop passed.
The negative battery cable was tested in the same fashion as the positive battery cable. There were four separate voltage drop tests performed to test the ground side of the circuit. The ground side voltage drop of the circuit should be 0.2 volt or less.
All the voltage drops were measured with the engine turning over. The red lead of the multimeter was clipped to the case of the starter, and the black lead was touched to the bolt that grounded the negative cable to the block. The VD was 0.001 volt (D). The red lead was attached to the bolt where the battery cable attached, and the black lead was connected to the negative battery cable terminal end at the block. The VD was 0.012 volt (E). We moved the leads to each terminal end of the negative cable, and this measurement of the VD was 1.6 volts (F), which was eight times the allowable VD for the ground side of the circuit. The battery cable failed. At this point a useless test, the voltage drop of the cable end and the battery terminal was 0.003 volt (G).
The 1.60 voltage drop on the negative battery cable caused the slow cranking speed. That voltage drop resulted in the starter getting less than 9 volts during cranking. Additionally, the alternator had been providing almost 15 volts, but the battery was being charged less than 13.4 volts. Replacing the negative battery cable would repair our starting and charging problems.
The negative battery cable was bolted to the engine mount. The installation was incorrect, and the cable was in poor condition. The insulation was damaged, and the copper under the insulation appeared to be exposed to the elements. It looked as though some of the copper strands were broken, which would result in a decreased cross-sectional area of the cable. All of these concerns could lead to the voltage drop the wire experienced.
The negative cable was removed and cut open. The cable didn’t look as bad as we had expected. There was some discoloration at the terminal end, and further down the cable, there was a bit of light green corrosion that could be seen on the cable. The cable was extremely stiff throughout the entire discolored area.
The broken battery tray and brace were removed. The new brace was installed with the factory bolt. The brace is shipped primed and ready to paint. Ours will be painted at some point in the future, but it’ll be in primer for now.
The AMD battery tray was installed in the factory location. The reproduction tray had all the holes located in the correct positions. The tray was installed with three of the factory bolts and the single bolt supplied with the new battery tray brace.
The cable and wire on the starter were removed. Even though the positive battery cable passed the voltage drop tests, the electrical tape wrapped on it looked terrible. The battery cable was also routed improperly, which placed it very close to the engine exhaust. The studs and the nuts were cleaned before the new cable was installed.
The Classic Industries positive battery cable had the properly shaped and angled terminal ends that fit properly on the starter lugs. The cable was the correct length for our Dart. It had the proper heat shielding, and the insulator grommet on the cable fit into the factory clip on the firewall, which kept the cable clear of the exhaust.
Two positive cable leads were attached to the starter relay. The new cables had adequate length to fit properly to the relay. Each lead had the factory-type wire ends. The plastic shield was reinstalled over the cable on the 12-volt stud.
The new negative battery cable was installed to the driver-side cylinder head (factory location). The cylinder head was cleaned at the ground point before the cable installation. The cable was secured with the one battery tray bolt that wasn’t reused with the battery tray installation.
The battery was placed on the battery tray. The group 24 battery was a flawless fit on the tray. There was no need for battery stands or shims to fit the battery.
The battery hold-down bracket fit over the top of the battery and located the J-hooks. The J-hooks slipped through the bracket and into the anchor holes located in the battery tray and the inner front apron. The factory-style washers and wing nuts threaded onto the J-hooks and secured the battery to the chassis.
The new positive cable end dropped onto the positive post without difficulty. If the cable hadn’t cleanly slipped onto the post, a terminal spreader tool could open up the cable end slightly to improve the fit of the cable. Don’t hammer either cable end onto the battery posts.
With the battery secured and the battery cables connected, the starter draw and charging systems were retested. Using the VAT-40 and the multimeter, the results of our tests were a starter draw of 11 volts and an amperage of 170 amps. At 2,000 rpm, the no-load voltage read 14.90 volts at the battery, and an alternator voltage of 14.97 volts. Loading the charging system with the VAT-40 to 12 volts produced an amperage of 36 amps. All of the results were in spec. The engine turned over faster, and the battery was being properly charged.
Other than the negative cable, the Dart didn’t have any additional ground straps on the engine or the chassis. We added this flat ribbon cable to the firewall and the engine block to help the electron flow. Ground cables are extremely important to have an accurately operating electrical system. If the circuit on a vehicle operates but not correctly, always check the grounds for increased resistance or an open.
There are a few differences between this AGM battery and a conventional battery. The yellow-top battery has a full charge of 12.84 volts. This battery is maintenance-free and doesn’t require acid or water to be added to it. The battery should never be charged above 15 volts and should only be jumped with another vehicle; don’t use a jumper box. If the battery is kept properly charged, and the above requirements are met, expect years of trouble-free usage.
They’re still out there. We’re the sixth owner of the Dart GT. It was assembled at the Los Angeles assembly plant and sold from Reseda Dodge in Los Angeles. It was originally silver, but along the way most of the Dart was painted YY1 yellow (except the firewall and radiator support). It’s a simple 273 2bbl, 904, 7 ¼-inch car with 13-inch wheels and four-wheel power drums. It needs work, but best of all, it’s rust-free.

Battery operation principles used to power hydrogen fuel systems
Battery operation principles used to power hydrogen fuel systems.   The Most Important Facts (And Myths) About Your Car Battery
We debunk some myths and add tips to taking car of this hugely important part in your car.
Even if you’re driving a gas guzzling SUV, electricity remains crucial to driving a car. Thanks to modern-day electric batteries, drivers no longer have to turn an engine over by hand. It now all happens with the turn of a key or a press of a button.
But beyond that initial ignition, the battery continues playing a vital role in all of your vehicle’s electric systems, but some myths have circulated about this electric heart pulsating in all our autos. Here’s a thorough examination of those myths and some some cold, hard facts to replace them.
BATTERY LIFE (AND DEATH)
Getty Dave King
A car battery should last about six years, but like most car parts, that all depends on how you treat it. Multiple discharge/recharge cycles shorten any battery’s life and using electronics in the car while the engine is the quickest route to a dead battery. Of course, a battery can maintain a charge while the engine is on, but once it’s off electronics draw directly from the battery.
To avoid this recurring auto nightmare, always turn the headlights and interior lights off when you’re done driving. Remember that leaving electronics like GPS or cell phones plugged into a car charger can drain the battery, too.
No matter how well you take care of it, eventually your battery will die and you’ll need a replacement. Failing batteries usually display obvious symptoms that let you know it’s on its way out. Slow cranking on startup indicates that the battery may not be able to provide enough power to fire up the engine, and an illuminated Battery Warning Light on the dashboard is clear indicator it needs attention. If vehicle electronics like remote locks or interior lights randomly stop working, a dying or dead battery could be why.
Also, batteries—alive or dead—are full of chemicals, so do nature a favor and dispose of dead ones properly. Don’t just toss it in the trash because chances are your local mobile mechanic or auto supply store can recycle it for you.
WEATHER MATTERS
Getty Spencer Platt
Ambient temperature has a significant impact on battery life and performance. Most car batteries use a liquid electrolyte solution to hold a charge, which is affected by hot or cold weather. While it takes extremely low temperatures to freeze a battery, cold reduces the solution’s ability to transfer full power (which is why it can be hard to start a car in winter). There’s a misconception that buying a battery with a higher CCA (cold cranking amp) rating will remedy this, but since vehicle computers regulate the amperage required for startup, it actually won’t make any difference. Use a battery heater instead – it’s like a toasty jacket that will keep your battery warm and reliable all winter.
On the flip side, hot weather can cause the battery solution to evaporate, limiting its ability to hold a charge. You may notice a rotten egg smell from the sulfur in the solution if this happens. A common myth is that you can simply refill it with tap water to make up for evaporation, but tap water contains minerals and impurities that can damage battery cells. Use deionized or demineralized water instead, but if you have to do this it’s probably a sign that you need a replacement soon. Keeping your car garaged helps the battery cope with temperature extremes so it lasts longer and works more reliably.
JUMPSTARTING MADE EASY
Almost every driver has to deal with a dead battery, and jumpstarting is usually the easiest way to get it recharged. It’s a relatively straightforward process, but it’s still important to follow these steps exactly.
Here’s how it works. First, to jumpstart a car, you will need:
A set of jumper cables
Another vehicle with a fully charged battery of the same voltage of the car being jumped
Rubber work gloves
Safety goggles
Before jump-starting your car, read the owner’s manual. The process is similar for most cars, but there may be special considerations for your specific vehicle.
Park the vehicles close enough that the jumper cables reach each battery.
Make sure each vehicle is in Park or Neutral.
Turn off the vehicle with the good battery.
Turn off or unplug any electronics, including headlights, hazard lights, radios, or cell phone chargers in each vehicle.
Open the hood of each vehicle and put on the work gloves and safety goggles.
Connect one end of the red (positive) jumper cable to the red positive (+) post of the dead battery.
Connect the other end of the red (positive) jumper cable to the red repositive (+) post of the charged battery.
Connect one end of the black (negative) jumper cable to the black negative (-) post of the charged battery.
Connect the other end of the black (negative) jumper cable to an unpainted metal part in the dead car, as far from the battery as the cable will reach. This grounds the circuit and helps prevent sparking.
Now you’re ready to actually jumpstart the car. Turn on the car with the fully charged battery and let it idle for roughly five to 10 minutes. Revving the engine won’t help: jumpstarting draws amps from the good battery, which is unaffected by engine power.
Turn off the engine and remove the cables in reverse order, being careful to not let the clamps touch any metal surface.
Start the car with the dead battery. If it starts, let it idle for at least 20 minutes, or go on a five-mile drive so the battery can recharge. If it still won’t start, repeat the process.
Jumpstarting is one way to get your car started again, but remember that every time a battery is fully discharged its life becomes shorter. If nothing else, the alternator will have to work harder to recharge that drained battery, which reduces fuel economy.
IT’S NOT ALWAYS THE BATTERY
Getty Westend61
If your car won’t start, a dead battery is the likely culprit. However, there are numerous components that can cause similar symptoms. A faulty starter motor will make a click when you turn the key that sounds similar to a dead battery. If the alternator fails, the battery won’t recharge when the engine is on, leading to a no-start condition. Clogged fuel injectors or worn-out spark plugs can be a problem, and corrosion on the battery terminals, which prevents the flow of electricity, is common too. Fortunately, it’s easy to clean with a wire brush or steel wool.
With the popularity of all-electric vehicles soaring, there’s a good chance your next car will be powered entirely by batteries. But until then, follow these steps to keep your current gas guzzler in shape so that you never have to break out the jumper cables.

5 most popular drones – June 2017
Remember how your dad used to make paper airplanes with you when you were a kid? After making a dozen, he’d help you get to the attic where you threw them into the warm summer air…
Time of paper airplanes is long gone and we have new players in town – drones! Summer is coming and drones are getting a massive boost in sales. It seems as though, after 2016 summer, they are back into play with a well-deserved sales growth. Surely, drones will soon be seen shining their props and polishing their brushed motors, just waiting in line to be picked up.
So if, for any reason, you’d like to reminisce to the old summer days and the smell of paper being molded into airplanes, buying a drone might be the best thing about this summer. It’s not the same thing, I know… but that’s sort of a beauty to it. Whether you’re going to share your summer with your loved ones or your children, drones are able to capture the very essence of your most beautiful moments together. amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "false"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "dglobe_newsletter-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = "Other drones to consider :"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "005de3dab0e248edd7df2fa66ab58323"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B01HE18R1Q,B011LPKZS4,B01MRK5BN9,B01HGDJODM"; That’s why, we have decided to analyzed drone sales charts during the first week of June and are back with interesting insight. Unsurprisingly, high-end DJI models are still breaking the records. With the Spark announcement, DJI currently holds all 3 top spots. The bottom two models, on the other hand, are actually quite surprising. None of them is by Yuneec which shows just how much they’re struggling at the moment.
Well, enough with the small talk! Let’s jump straight to the reason why you’re reading this…

5. Hubsan H501S
At #5 spot, we have Hubsan H501S, a model that has managed to squeeze out Yuneec Q500 out of this list. How did it manage to do so? Well, for starters – it sits on a much better price point and is capable of delivering pretty much the same experience as Yuneec Q500. Luckily, potential buyers were quick to realize that and are rapidly beginning to swarm.
Starting off at the spec sheet, Hubsan H501S seems rather impressive. Flight time hovers around 20-minute mark which is excellent. Even more so considering it runs on a 7.4V 2700mAh LiPo. But, it is not a big drone so that partially explains the flight time. Range is somewhat of a sore spot. Even though it’s not too short, we are talking about roughly 300 meters here, there is definitely room for improvement with future installments. Perhaps an upgraded version of some sort. Currently, short range is number 1 downside for most users so I’m not talking nonsense here.
On the bright side, features section is nothing short of amazing. With GPS, follow me and one key return to home features, Hubsan H501S already has everything it needs (and more). Even going one step further, it sports OSD live data and altitude hold topped off with enjoyable FPV experience. Camera is good as well. It can record full HD videos and take gorgeous aerial photos with little to no jelly effect. For this price, I am sure you cannot get your hands on anything better than this. It provides awfully lot of value for money and deserves to be a hit this summer!

4. Autel Robotics X-Star Premium
For too long, Autel Robotics X-Star Premium was a heavily underrated drone. It had everything a proper high-end drone needs to have, but sales just weren’t good enough. Finally, it has reached better days; finally, customers noticed its real quality; finally, it is standing where it always should have – at the very top.
Since this is a drone who has aerial photography as a primary aspect, it is only fair to start off with the camera. We are talking about a 12MP sensor capable of recording in 4K at 30fps. 3-axis gimbal is present as well, which is not that surprising after all. In terms of FPV, X-Star Premium sits comfortably at 1.2 miles (roughly 2 kilometers). Unfortunately, if you plan on using FPV goggles on it, you’re in for a rough time. To save you a ton of stress, here’s the quickest way to get FPV goggles working on Autel Robotics X-Star Premium – get Nvidia Shield K1 tablet. This is, by far, the easiest option out there.
Features are always an important aspect Luckily, Autel Robotics did not fail to deliver. With GPS/GLONASS support, SecureFly magnetic interference protection and a built-in LCD display on the controller, X-Star Premium looks to be all set. Combine that with several smart modes and battery life of 25 minutes and you’ll begin to understand why it deserves to be at the top.
Show me the best price for : Ashburn, United States
3. DJI Phantom 4 Pro
As I’ve mentioned in the introductory paragraph, all 3 top spots belong do DJI drones. We are starting off with what was planned to be their best-selling drone – Phantom 4 Pro. This powerful flagship model is the pinnacle of modern-day drone tech… but was still beaten by 2 other models. The reason is not P4 Pro’s technical inferiority rather than needs of potential buyers. Most people don’t need such a powerful, bulky and overly priced model. They’re satisfied with smaller models that don’t cost as much but have exceptional build quality and specifications. And that’s exactly what took DJI Phantom 4 Pro off the number one spot – size/performance ratio.
Despite that, it is still selling amazingly. Even though casual users are starting to steer away from it, DJI Phantom 4 Pro has managed to keep its rank with commercial users. With specifications being 27 minutes and 7 kilometers (battery life and range), it’s clear to see why it’s such a good choice for non-casual side of market. Features are on point too – full support for DJI GO app, easy FPV goggles setup as well as compatibility for thermal cameras are all going in P4 Pro’s favor.
But, let’s not forget about its awesome camera! As some of you might know, it’s the first drone to have a 1-inch 20MP image sensor. Obviously, it can record in 4K at buttery 60FPS with H.264 encoding. Needless to say, video and image quality are the best on the market, not even getting trampled down by third party cameras such as Gopros. All in all, DJI Phantom 4 Pro might have lost the top spot but has managed to keep its flair.

2. DJI Spark
If you missed it, DJI has just recently announced a brand-new drone – the Spark. Needless to say, it was an outright shock for many as most of us expected they’ll announce Mavic Pro 2. Even though Mavic Pro was a champ when it came to size/performance ratio, people thought it was too big for a foldable drone and wanted the 2 to be much smaller. Perhaps DJI took their wishes into account and created Spark as the spiritual successor? Well, whatever it might be, one thing is certain – DJI Spark looks amazing!
It is incredibly small (exact proportions are 143×143×55 mm), roughly the same size as a soda can. Such a small size factor makes it a direct competitor of heavily popular selfie drones such as Yuneec Breeze and Zerotech Dobby; something which DJI planned would be the case with Mavic Pro, but it wasn’t the case. Despite its size, we are still talking about a mighty drone. With a FHD camera, 15 minutes of flight time and range of roughly 2 kilometers (when paired with its dedicated controller), Spark is smashing the ground with competitors.
Features are nothing short of brilliant either. With a wide array of smart flight modes and tracking software, it also posseses 2 brand new features. They’re called PalmControl and PalmLaunch. Both of them, you’ve guessed it, have something to do with your palm. As a matter of fact, both are rather self-explanatory – latter lets you launch from your palm while first one lets you take control solely with your hands. So, with charming new features and solid specs, DJI Spark might become the best drone in summer 2017.

1. DJI Mavic Pro
And the most popular drone in June is, expectedly, DJI Mavic Pro. This amazing drone has broken all records in terms of sales and general popularity. It has surpassed Phantom 4 and even Phantom 4 Pro when it comes to unique purchases which just proves its superiority. But why do people love this drone so much?
Well, it’s mostly because it delivers excellent all-around performance and comes with no strings attached size-wise. It’s foldable, amazingly compact and can be carried with you anywhere you go. It’s the best travelling buddy for sure, even on airplanes. Simply fold it up, put it in its case or together with your laptop in carry-on luggage and you’re good to go.
In terms of performance and main specifications, Mavic Pro is head to head with Phantom 4. With cca 25 minutes of battery life and 7 kilometers of range, it is obviously miles ahead of its direct competition. Camera is on the same level as well. It can record in 4K and sports an incredible sensor that picks up a lot of light for great photos and videos. Feature-wise, Mavic Pro sports several smart flight modes including TapFly and ActiveTrack. Also, there is full DJI GO app support that’ll make your tasks much easier to handle.
