EIGHTEEN - jake’s rizz

WARNING: uh. idk if there is any? let me know I’ll edit this chapter to add it in

you couldn’t lie, your heart dropped the moment jake sent those very mysterious and ominous texts. it scared you and you did not look forward to the final results. what if he was going to scold you again? no, what if he was gonna cut your pay? you needed to buy a new outfit for your sister’s wedding soon. actually, you didn’t have to buy a new one, you have plenty of outfits that would look nice if you just figured out a combination to put together. however, where is the fun in that? new clothes always made everyone look fresh!

as a wise man (named park jongseong) would say. either ways, you shouldn’t worry about this. you looked straight down your phone and shot a quick ‘okay, sir’ text to jake. which you realised, why are you even putting effort to the man who was blatantly being mean to you? right, he has the authority and the source of your income. now, imagine jake being your sugar daddy-

wait. where did that come from? god, you were long gone.

you had quickly put on your shirt and pants, threw your hair in a ponytail (or if you have short hair, just a half ponytail) then left your home with your valuables. the drive to jake’s house wasn’t that far, he lived in a gated community with a really sweet security guard guarding the gates. his neighbours were a sweet elderly couple who lived with their cat and dog. very cute. they were super adorable too. when you started working from home at jake’s house, the elderly couple actually thought you were jake’s girlfriend.

they meant no harm but it still got your heart tugging a little. they apologised for the slight mistake and kept complimenting you and jake about how sweet he was and that you and him would definitely look like a cute couple. either ways, you made it and parked at the street outside of his home. a two-storey home that not only looked cozy but was cozy inside too. well, until you enter his office and room. that place is completely so cold in some way. maybe it was the way the furnitures were just industrial and his bed was a huge king sized bed where he was alone.

“oh, (name) sweetie.” the elderly lady smiles. you smiled and bowed at her.

“hello Mrs.Matilda, are you out here to view the outside and just chill?” you asked her.

she laughs, “oh dear, it’s as per usual. my husband is currently sleeping so i don’t want to disturb him. you look different in a casual outfit, you look so sweet and innocent. are you here to babysit layla again? i am sure, jaeyun is home today though?”

“ah, umm he asked me to see him so i am here for him today.”

“oh? you youngsters have a very different way asking people out for dates. back in my day, my husband just surprises me with a bouquet of flowers and asks me out.” she laughs heartily.

“oh, umm. he isn’t asking me out-”

“Mrs.Matilda, you’re awake.” jake says. you turned to look at him. he smiles at Mrs.Matilda. his outer appearance looks way different than how he is normally at work. in fact, he really looked like a puppy. his hair down with bangs covering his forehead. the way he tilted his head in curiosity and the pout he had, god he was so adorable.

“oh, jaeyun dear.” Mrs.Matilda smiles at jake. jake goes over to hand her some biscuits.

“my mom came over yesterday and made these. she wanted to give it to you yesterday but you weren’t around when she wanted to pass it you.”

“oh my, thank your mom for these. my husband will definitely love this even more.”

“any time.” jake turns to you. “let’s go in.” he grabs your hand and pulls you in gently. your eyes widened because he literally intertwined your hand with his. hands clasped and everything. not a single warning???

Mrs.Matilda smiles as she watches this and you could only look at her confused as jake pulls you inside his home.

jake brings you inside his home and you were instantly greeted by Layla. She wags her tail happily once she sees you, she also barks happily and tries to jump on you. it makes your heart burst at how adorable she was.

“aww, what good girl~” you cooed at layla as you gave her a bunch scratches and pats seemingly forgetting jake was there.

jake on the other hand, seemed to have just watched you. it gets his heart racing a little. seeing his two favourite girls-

ehem, his favourite girl and uhh. okay, who was he lying to? his favourite girl and the girl he likes interacting.

“oh, right. why did you call me here?” you asked jake.

jake’s brain short-circuits. he just realised you weren’t in your normal secretary smart outfit that you usually wore. instead you were in something casual. you looked so domestic. very wifey material.

“uh. right.” jake points to heaps of papers. “I need help clearing that. I-I know this is your day off but-”

“don’t worry. I’ll help. I understand it’s hard being a CEO and clearing all this approval letters and stuff.”

“right. I also need help with this project i’m working on with umm jay. he said he placed the research in the file so like I just need some help reviewing it. since it’s better to have two pairs of eyes to like get opinions.” jake says.

“mmm, alright. let’s get to work, I guess.” you say.

just as you scanned the many files and papers on jake’s desk, you can’t help but feel him stare into your soul. it was obvious he was staring at you but for what? you didn’t know.

“mr.sim, are you okay? is there something wrong with my face?”

jake’s eyes widened, “no not at all. I just umm…can you not call me mr.sim when we’re alone like this?”

it went dead silent after he said that.

“umm but you’re my boss?”

“we aren’t technically in the office right now and we’re the same age?”

“yeah, but you’re still my boss.”

jake sighs, “okay then. as your boss, I want you to just call me jake when we’re outside of the office.”

you wanted to say something but jake cuts you off, “I will cut your pay if you call me mr.sim or sir when it’s just us.”

you quickly shut your mouth after. you knew was joking about cutting your pay but like in some way, it sounded really real.

“okay, s- jake.”

“mmm, good girl.”

you froze.

THIRTY-SIX – intimate yet seductive smell

you had entered the building, exaggerating your walk a little to make your curves stand out more. multiple men that worked in the office stared at you, their jaws dropping instantly.

just as you arrived at the office floor you worked at, someone grabs your waist. you knew exactly who it was. that cologne. that intimate yet seductive smell.

“Mr.Sim.”

“yes?”

“what are you doing.”

“there were a bunch of people who were staring at you-”

“I know but you aren’t my boyfriend so why should you care?” you had fired back. jake sighs.

“I know. I know I messed up, I shouldn’t be acting this way. Acting like some possessive guy when I already hurt you a bunch of times.”

“that’s great that you realise that. now, if you could excuse me sir. I have some work to do, being your secretary doesn’t mean I can just slack off. I still have a bunch of paperwork to attend to.” you say before pushing jake’s hand that was still around your waist.

your heels clacking as you had walked over to your desk. jay decides to walk over.

“ah, it’s nice to see jake all fired up in the morning. want coffee?”

“tea would be great.” you told jay.

“alright, I’ll come back in a bit.” he winks at you before leaving to the pantry area.

jake wanted to say something to you but he just decides to look down in shame and walk over to his office. a few hours flew by, everyone went to have lunch. just as you stood up ready to visit the staff cafeteria in the building, a familiar pair of arm wraps around waist.

“I miss you.” was all he says. his voice sounding fragile and almost broken. you could tell he was holding back some tears but you knew you had to stand your ground and make jake suffer a little (or possibly more).

you pushed his hand away and untangled yourself from him. “I’m sorry, sir. I have to leave, I am quite famished so whatever business you have can delayed after lunch. besides, this is still personal business so after work would work better.”

the flash of hurt on jake’s face didn’t go unnoticed. however, he understood why you were acting this way.

“sorry.” jake mutters in a defeated and sad tone. just like a puppy sulking.

and this went on for the whole week, even another 3 weeks later. jake would try to talk to you but you would reject his apologies and any form of him wanting to talk to you. you could tell he was cracking. it was starting to affect his work too. which was not good. he wasn’t listening much to the meetings that the fashion department had organised and he would leave in the middle of it. it caused some of the employees to think their work wasn’t good and had to be improved on.

in reality, jake was just distracted. his feelings were all over the place. he just simply didn't know how to act. this was the first time he really had to do something or else he'd lose the girl he really likes. sure, audrey was his first love and he lost her but he couldn't really fight his dad's orders so he had to stay in Seoul or else, this whole thing wouldn't even happen in the first place.

and since jake has now stood up to his dad, he finally has the freedom to do what he once would've done for audrey. to fight for his love for you instead. however, how was he going to do so when he had zero clue on what to do other than let you give him the silent treatment. jake knew it was easy to just use the money he had worked on but spending heaps of money for you was not a way to truly show his feelings to you.

"still nothing?" sunghoon says as he practically manspreads on the couch in the lounge area. ningning kicks his knees, the male could only wince at the pain.

"sit properly you fuck." ningning barks.

"why are you even here?" sunghoon bites back.

"(name) is my best friend, why are you here?"

"for moral support and my friend is an idiot."

"well-"

"you two should get a room and go fuck." jungwon rolls his eyes.

"oh? new ship? ningning noona and sunghoon hyung. ninghoon. sungning." ni-ki adds. sunghoon throws the pillow and it hits ni-ki right on his face.

"where is jay?" sunghoon says after he does a small celebration for successfully hitting ni-ki right in the face with the pillow.

"probably making out with some employee-"

jay walks in with jake. he had pinched the boy's poor ears while walking in. jake could only accept in and walk in the room in defeat.

"brought this fucker here. now, speak. tell the others, specifically (name) what you wanted to say."

jake looks around the room. he could tell the tension was definitely a little tense. heeseung and hyunjin had cracked their knuckles in case. felix, san and hongjoong were ready to hold them back but they were also watching jake warily. one wrong move and he would be beaten up like a tenderized beef.

"umm." jake starts off. his eyes met with yours. then he did something he could only think of. he got on his knees. everyone was in shock even you.

"(name), i-i know this isn't exactly how our relationship or umm whole umm."

"spit it out." sunghoon says. jake sends sunghoon a small glare.

"ever since the start. meeting you when you crashed into me and spilt coffee on me and then seeing you during the interview. working with you for 4-5 years. i was harsh to you during those early days, hell even year. i am just a grumpy, young CEO who doesn't know how to control his emotions. I never knew how to control myself. I just shut myself out and block any form of feelings when it comes to working with girls.”

“but then…those feelings I never knew I had for you started blooming quickly and I was terrified. I wanted to stop myself, what if…I would get hurt again like how I did with Audrey. I didn’t want to go through it again. But then Layla…she loved you instantly, it warmed my heart. she accepted you when she’s never easily warmed up to people. I knew there was something.”

jake steps forward and carefully reaches out to cup one of your cheeks, his hands were shaking. “so, (name). I know I’m not the best guy. I hurt you twice by pushing you away and being a jerk. no words can ever express how sorry I am.”

when you don’t say a single word, jake was about get down on his knees, you gasp and held his hand.

“wait, don’t get on your knees. please.”

“but I did so much bad-”

“I forgive you.” you finally say.

dead silence.

“WHERE IS THE GIRLBOSS MOMENT??” Sunghoon yells.

you would’ve answered but with jake’s lips against yours, you couldn’t. the way his hands gently held onto your waist. it causes goosebumps against your skin, it felt good. really good.

“woah woah.” heeseung pulls jake away from you. it almost look like he was holding a kitten by the nape of its neck. “this is supposed to go on for more episodes, why cave in easily.”

“because they’re stupidly in love and I hate it here.” hyunjin says.

“they’re made for each other, how cute.” sunghoon sarcastically says.

heeseung drops jake’s collar and sighs. “you better not hurt my best friend again or I will plot a manhunt on you. it will involve the FBI and other authorities.”

jake nods quickly. clearly, judging by heeseung’s tone. he was not joking around so jake didn’t want to mess with him.

“so…is this finally end of war?” sunoo asks.

both you and jake looked at each other and then back at the others before nodding.

“YAY!! WAR IS OVER!! I can finally go back to working normally around you two.” ni-ki jumps.

“what do you mean?” you asked as your head titled.

“have you never noticed? 4 years working with you guys and you’ve never noticed the sexual tension?” ni-ki says.

“uh…”

“damn, you two are fucking oblivious as fuck.”

just as you opened your mouth, you felt jake’s hand (that was on your waist) squeeze your sides. it shuts you up real quick. you turned to meet his gaze and you swore, someone or something was under that gaze cause jake was definitely not there.

“they’re eye fucking each other in front of us.” hyunjin yells as that was the last thing you heard before you were completely focused on the man right beside you.

no thoughts…just sim jaeyun, your boss

and now…your boyfriend.

FOURTY – sunghoon maid costume

you could not believe your eyes when you witnessed sunghoon walking down the hallway towards jake's office in a maid office. his face was dark, clearly he didn't enjoy this little punishment. maybe this was what he kinda deserved for causing pain and suffering to you and sunoo all these years with his endless dating scandals.

sunghoon does a little curtsy in his outfit and hands you a plate of sandwiches.

"here you go." he says in the most monotonous voice ever. you burst out laughing.

"so why did jake ask you do to this?"

he sighs, "because i caused so much trouble to you and sunoo...for a long time...and i tried to flirt with you too...jake ask me to wear this."

"you're actually pretty in this."

sunghoon tilts his head, his ears perked up as you say it. "really?"

you held in your laughter, "yeah, the pink bow adds to the outfit. you look like those people who got forced by little girls to wear it."

"okay, so i brought-" jay stops in his tracks. shocked to see sunghoon in a maid outfit. "your milk tea...what the fuck happened to you."

"jake happened. that spawn of satan made me wear this as a punishment."

jay laughs. "well, he has great taste. you look good, my dearest friend. the finest lady ever." jay smacks sunghoon's shoulders. sunghoon groans.

“this is embarrassing. why did he have to make me do this?” sunghoon whines.

“you could’ve just…idk not do it?” jay says.

“but my job is at stake.” sunghoon huffs.

“well buddy then I can’t help you.” jay shrugs. sunghoon deadpans.

“you were of no help the moment you walked in.”

“boo hoo, you’re sounding like a little baby.” jay argues back.

“ohoho you’re getting on my nerves-”

“can you two just shut the fuck up?” you say as you stood in between them. sunghoon and jay don’t try to argue any further. they kept quiet.

“good, now why is jake doing all of this?”

“bro code, sorry cant tell.” sunghoon shrugs.

“yeah, all we can say is…he planned something huge for you.”

“we’ve been dating for 3 months. if jake proposes to me, I swear to god.” sunghoon freezes. “park sunghoon, for the love of god. please tell me he’s not proposing to me. it’s been 3 months.”

“ehem, no spoilers.” he does jazz hands to stop the awkward tension from rising. jay deadpans and smacks the back of sunghoon’s head.

“he’s not proposing, don’t worry.”

“okay, good.” you sighed out. while you’d love to have a marriage with jake, you feel like this would be too fast for you to process. sure, jake would be an amazing husband from the past few gestures in the last 3 months but you weren’t physically ready to become a wife just yet.

sunghoon gets a call. with a couple of hums and grunts from him, the call ends and he stares at you.

“alright, sim jaeyun awaits for you. heeseung hyung is driving you there. he’s waiting downstairs, m’lady.” he does a curtsy once again. jay bursts out laughing.

“you should get a wig, it would really do you justice.” jay mentions as he tries to stop himself from laughing harder.

sunghoon glares at jay, “escort her or I will kick you with these high heel boots.”

jay wipes the tears of joy as he laughs, “okay okay. I’ll escort her. come with me, (name).”

and so jay drags you out to the carpark of the building. heeseung waits for you, he holds out the door for you and he bows.

“welcome.”

“heeseung, what the hell are you doing?”

“play along, jake is paying me big money for this. ehem.” he holds out his hand. “let’s get you to your requested venue.”

“okay…” you were a little suspicious but you still went along with it.

after a couple of turns and red lights, finally you made it to the venue. it was an apartment building, felix held out the door for you to walk in. heeseung bows and leaves.

“lix, why are you here?”

“jake asked us all to be here.”

“oh, he is definitely proposing.”

“mmm, not what you think but I shall just. keep my mouth shut. ningning and gaeul are waiting for you by the elevator, go ahead.” he shows you the direction.

and so you made your way over.

“pause.” ningning says as soon as you stood in front of them. “we need to put you in the most beautiful outfit.”

they both dragged you inside one of the rooms, next thing you knew. you were being put into different variety of clothing and when they finally found the most perfect one. they slapped on some makeup for you. the clapped their hands.

“perfect!” ningning says.

“jake is gonna fall for you all over again!” gaeul adds. you couldn’t help but blush.

gaeul and ningning pulls you back to the elevators, they clicked on the last floor. a penthouse but why are you going here? the elevator dings and the opens wide, right to the floor of the penthouse. not a single door in sight. it just leads right into the home. your jaw drops.

there jake was, standing in a tuxedo. he steps forward and lets a key dangle down his two fingers. you tilt your head because what did he mean by this. his free hand reaches out for yours and holds it. it was warm and soft. the sparkles in his eyes, glimmering under the light.

“(name).” jake starts off.

“our relationship has had a rocky start, I hurt you twice and somehow…you still chose me in the end. I don’t deserve you. you’re the prettiest girl ever and I’m just a boy who’s hopelessly in love. I-I want to be with you forever and I know it’s too early to say that, we’re only 3 months into our relationship. however, I promise to be with you till the very end so instead of a promise ring…how about a promise house?” he throws a small awkward smile at the end. unsure if you’d even accept it.

“oh jaeyun…” you gave him a big hug. he nuzzles his face at the crook of your neck. “yes, I’ll move in with you.”

“SHE SAID YES!!!” jake screams. confetti poppers were set out and your friends were happily yelling congratulations. jake jumps around with you in his arms.

“oh oh! I have to show you something!” he drags you upstairs, to which it leads to the rooftop garden.

your jaw drops at the view. it was…perfect.

“do you like it?”

“of course!” you hugged him once more.

“we can play around with Layla up here if she doesn’t want to go downstairs. I need to dog-proof up here though. kinda dangerous for her still.”

“we can settle this later, for now…I LOVE YOU!!!” you gave him kisses all over his face. jake squeals, his adorable smile plastered right on his face.

and so…the tale of yours and jake’s relationship continues…

ALTERNATE ENDING – yes, and?

— continuation from chapter 34 (please read if you haven’t)

you had walked out of the passenger side of the car and faced the view. you breathed in and out. jay didn’t say much, he just kept quiet and watched the view too.

“do you like jake a lot?” jay suddenly asks.

did you like jake? sure, he was everything you ever dreamt of the perfect and ideal type of boyfriend but he came with many flaws. which was normal. however, after breaking your trust and heart twice, you can’t help but feel lost…confused even.

“I don’t know.” you quietly whispered. the softness of your tone went with the beautiful scenery in front of you.

“you don’t know?” jay says in slight confusion.

“I know what my heart wants but…I can’t bring myself to physically accept him after he hurt me twice.” you explained. jay hums in acknowledgment. he understood where you were coming from and quite honestly, if he was in your position…he wouldn’t even forgive jake.

“so what are you going to do about it?”

“let him go.”

jay hums once more, “whatever you desire. you know what’s best for yourself and I’ll go along with it.”

“I don’t know what’s best for myself, honestly. I feel like I should just give up.”

“well, if your heart is telling you do so then you should. you’re someone who needs to be treated right,” jay says.

you looked up at him. “really? because I don’t feel like it. everyone that I fall in love with always leaves me in the end.”

jay shrugs, “they’re too blind to realise they’ve lost someone amazing.”

you snickered, “is this how you deal with all the ladies coming after you?”

“I don’t have anyone who likes me. My love life is kinda sad, honestly. The girl I like doesn’t like me back and all the dates I’ve gone to all just want me for my wealth and to get into my pants.” jay sighs.

“I’m so sorry.”

“it’s alright.”

“what about the girl who doesn’t like you back?”

“I would sacrifice her happiness over mine.” jay simply says as he directly looks into your eyes.

“shouldn’t you have some self-respect for yourself?”

“for her, I don’t. I want what’s best for her…even if she doesn’t like me.” jay smiles.

“whoever this girl is…she’s really unlucky. she should realise you’re the real deal.”

“yeah, she should…but I’m fine with it. As long as she’s happy with her decision.”

5 YEARS LATER…

as you looked down at your phone in the cafe that you had set up…you realise that there was something more to life. chasing after a guy who you thought was the one for you. clearly, that didn’t work out.

since, you had left Sim Corp. your life was…a little different but quite the same. you were your own little boss as you managed the cafe. when you first left Sim Corp. tons of the friends you made were reluctant to see you go. however, they understood where you came from. no one wanted to stay to face the love that wasn’t theirs.

scrolling through your gallery, you clicked on one photo. you would’ve deleted it but it would hurt you too much if you went with it. so here you were, staring at it. nearly bringing tears to your eyes. it was a photo of jake and layla. you were pathetic for still somehow having feelings for him after all these years. however, your heart just couldn’t give up on him.

everyday, you tried to live your best life. moving on and even trying to go out on dates to forget the pain that you withheld. however, it was no surprised that at the end of the date, your heart yearned for your true love. which is why…despite having a chance to possibly date jay or any other guy, you didn’t. for jay, he knows you can’t forget about jake. you thought you were stupid for still being stuck on him.

jay denies it. it just shows how much you really liked jake and quite honestly, he said if he was jake. he would be flattered. but alas, you had drifted apart from jake. never contacting him again after you left the company.

you could hear the bell to your little cafe door ringing, indicating someone had walked in.

“welcome to Lily Cafe-” the words that were supposed to continue after quickly died the moment you had laid eyes on the person who walked on.

Sim Jaeyun

he still looked as handsome as 5 years ago. you looked away and just went to the counter to attend to him as he still was a valued customer. jake stood in front of you (at the cashier) in awe. you still looked beautiful as ever. there was barely any changes to you and yet somehow, he felt like you were different.

“what would you like to have, sir.” jake swore his heart stopped. he missed your sweet voice.

“umm, it’s my first time here so what are the specials. umm any recommendations?”

“I believe the best recommendation I can give you is a simple vanilla latte and also along with the red velvet cake.”

“then can I have a cold vanilla latte and one red velvet cake?” you nodded and ringed up his order. your employees helping out to make the drink and also packing the cake into a box.

“would you like 1 fork to share with your significant other?”

“I don’t have a significant other.” he says. the air felt still, a clear tension between you two that causes your staff to start gossiping and moving over to the staff room.

“oh.”

“I divorced her a year later into our contractual marriage.” jake explains.

you didn’t know why it made you at ease and why he needed to tell you this. it was none of your business.

“alright, then I’ll just put one fork for you-” you reached to placed the fork into the bag.

“layla misses you.” jake says. you freeze. ah layla, the ever so cute puppy. she’s definitely not a puppy anymore, she would probably be an adult now. a grown dog. “I miss you.”

“there is no point of saying that. we never started anything and you got married to your childhood sweetheart.” you bitterly say.

“I already said I divorced her and I only loved you truly.”

“jake, let’s not talk about this when people are here.”

“then.” he grabs your hand (whilst also grabbing his drink and cake) “let’s go somewhere private.”

“w-what?” and so jake drags you somewhere secluded but still somewhere in public considering he didn’t want to look like some serial killer. despite him holding a cup of latte and a box of red velvet cake.

“let’s clear the air now. I love you.” jake doesn’t waste a single second.

“you can’t just say that after 5 years of me not seeing you.” you say.

“I can and I will. I love you and I want to be by your side till the very end. I never liked her, I was forced to get married because of my fucking dad. He’s the worst.”

“you don’t have to explain. there is no point.”

“what do you mean there is no point?! (name), i fucking love you. I got divorce from her because I didn’t love her, I love you and only you.”

“stop talking nonsense. you should go back.”

“there is no going back, you’re my home and my safety. I can’t leave you anymore.”

“jake.”

“please.” jake begs. it looked too pitiful. his eyes filled with tears just brimming and ready to fall. “I can’t lose you again…” his voice was shaky, this was the first time you saw jake being vulnerable.

did you want to possibly get hurt again?

yes

you were dumb enough to continue to love him.

“sim jaeyun, you asshole.” you had whacked his chest and cried in his arms. “why do you have to be so mean to me.” you sobbed out.

murmurs and apologies were just simply said to each other. once again, sim jaeyun never fails to appear into your life again. he was a virus…

a good virus.

Why were you so nervous?

Your hands trembled as you scanned through the most appropriate outfit you could find to just ‘casually’ hang out with jake. Which was weird to say considering he is still your boss.

Oh god, he’s still your boss…This was so wrong!

Maybe it was because you two almost kissed which made you forget he was your boss. Either ways, this wasn’t right but Jake was expecting you so you had to go over. As per usual, you made your way past the community gate and parked right outside of Jake’s house. Mrs.Matilda wasn’t at the porch so you assumed she must be having her afternoon nap.

You could feel the way your hands were starting to sweat. The nerves getting to you the closer you stepped onto Jake’s porch. You clicked on the doorbell. You nearly winced at the loud (fancy high end) doorbell he had, like a complete horror movie kind.

The black haired boy opens the door, a cute smile adorning his face. As he was about to say something, Layla perches at your legs and tries to somehow climb at you. Which was impossible considering how big of a dog she was.

“Layla, (name) is our guest. We don’t climb our guests.” Jake warns the puppy. The small whimpers Layla gave out was obviously hurting Jake’s heart so he gives a small ruffle to her fur and turns to look at you.

“Sorry, she’s umm…really excited to see you.” He says as he scratches his nape in shyness/awkwardness.

“is Layla excited to see me or are you excited to see me?”

“umm…both? god, I’m sorry.” Jake groans.

you chuckled, “it’s fine. this is our first time actually hanging out causally. usually, I would be over to puppy-sit Layla.”

“oh, right. wanna order something to eat? unfortunately, as you know…from jay, that I have zero idea how to cook.”

“sure, why not.”

This was very awkward…

You were sure Layla could feel how awkward it was because she started getting a little rowdy. Just as you sat down, she jumps onto your lap and starts licking your face.

“Layla.” Jake warns her a little. The puppy doesn’t stop until you were smiling genuinely. Jake pats the empty spot beside him to get Layla to sit next to him but she doesn’t listen.

She only whimpers trying hard to get you to feel comfortable. Ah if only she understood how hard it was to act around your boss who you were pretty sure knew about your crush on him. Maybe she knows.

“I’m sorry about her, I have zero clue why she’s acting this way. She usually listens to me very well.” Jake apologises.

“it’s alright.” You held Layla close and hugged her. She calms down a little. Her heavy breathing dies down due to her excitement. “She’s just really good at reading emotions sometimes.”

Jake tilts his head. He didn’t understand what you meant but it’s fine. Maybe when the time comes. For now, he could only hope for you to actually notice him making a move.

Or was it too quick? Was he moving too fast? Oh god.

Jake was internally panicking. Why was he so nervous around you? You were his secretary for 4 years now, he shouldn’t feel scared or nervous. It’s not like you were going to bite him.

Just as jake opens his mouth to utter something, his phone rings. He looks at you apologetically and goes to answer the call. You were waiting for him. It took longer than you expected and so curiously got to the best of you.

“Dad, no. I am not marrying her. She’s not the woman I like. What? What do you mean, I have no choice? That doesn’t make any sense. Yeah, I am growing old but I want to find a woman I like to marry. Not be arranged to marry.”

You felt sad. Well not for yourself but for jake. Why is it that rich young people always have to be arranged for marriage. You couldn’t help but wonder. The way jake paced back and forth while on the call with his dad only led you to do one thing…

“baby?” you called out. Jake turns around in shock. “you were taking too long, even Layla was getting riled up.”

You looked down at Layla and she seemed to get the note. She whimpers a little at jake. Her tail drooping and wagging slowly. “You said you would take 5 minutes…it’s been almost 15 minutes. I was worried sick.” You jutted out your lower lips, giving Jake a small pout.

Jake was frozen, he couldn’t say a single word. All he heard was his dad blasting him questions and demanded answers. However, that went a complete blur since his brain sort of short circuited.

Did you just call him baby?

“Sim Jaeyun.” His dad on the call says in a stern voice. Jake finally gets back from his little moment. He felt his face heat up.

“yes, dad?”

“who was that?”

“umm.”

“don’t ‘umm’ me. was that a girl? or more specific, was that your girlfriend?”

“well…she’s umm…” Jake looks up at you. “yeah…”

“shes my girlfriend.”
