Illusionary
Cerberus, Kia, domestic bedroom snz scene with a little magic, little romance? Hmm, yeah, sounds like me. 😏 --- Wrapped in a full-length darkest burgundy dressing robe, feeling somewhat refreshed but still more than a little coldhazy, Cerberus emerges post-shower to the sight of Kia, changed from her earlier black velvet bodice and jeans into a burnished deep gold satin negligee, lying on her stomach across the bed, head resting on her hands, attention fixed on the Testing papers in front of her. He pauses at the threshold, leans against the door frame to simply look at her awhile, silently enraptured, a soft smile on his face.
:Just so you know, babe,: Mindsends Kia, keeping her eyes on the papers, :it’s not possible for you to enter a room and not be noticed.: She glances back over her shoulder at him and grins wickedly. “You’d be a terrible spy.”
Cerberus chuckles, walking over to settle beside her on the bed. “Hard to argue given the circumstances, I suppose.” He toys with her hair, looking down at the papers. “Which Level are you applying for?” A light sniffle, and he frowns slightly, rubs his nose against an irritation rising anew.
“6.” Kia sighs. “I mean, I’m pretty sure I can get that, but…I don’t know, I’m not…evenly skilled across the options or something.” She rolls over to sit up, cross-legged. “There’s a bunch of stuff I can do really well, and some other stuff I’m…just not very good at, I guess.” She gives him a rueful smile. “But I think if I maybe…”
“What is it you’re not sure of?” Cerberus reaches across her and picks up the papers, flicking through them as he moves to sit leaning back against the bedhead, rearranging the array of pillows and cushions to suit. Another sniffle, more sharply this time and he recognises the battle as lost, his focus dissolving captive to undeniable need, and he turns from Kia in surrender to an adversary already his conqueror many times over today. “HHAHTSSCCHU! Damn it, I swear Healing deal in placebos. Comple…ehh-HH ..completely…hh… Ahh-HEHTSSCH-uu!” He sniffles again and fixes Kia with a look conveying irrefutable vindication, raises an eyebrow. “*snf!*Hm? As evidenced. Completely ineffectual,” he states with authority, and takes several tissues from the box on the bedside. “Excuse me a mome… hh-HH... Oh, for f… HHAHTSSCCHU! Ah, gods. *SNF!* Pardon me, love.” He blows his nose in an attempt to stop any further irritation, at least in the short term, though he holds very little faith in that regard, and incinerates the tissues in a flashblaze of aetherfire.
“Bless you, sweetheart,” Kia says, gently strokes his forearm. “I’m fairly sure the meds have helped a bit, though,” she suggests. “Compared to earlier, at least.”
“Oh, well, yes, I’m sure I’ve had at least ten minutes respite here and there,” mutters Cerberus sardonically, though he concedes to his bonded’s wry smirk quickly enough, places a kiss on her forehead. “Ah, I’m sorry, darkling. It’s just that as a rule, I’m rather fond of breathing.” Resting back against the pillows once more, he sighs again, absently rubs his nose, and returns his attention to the papers, making a quiet hum of thought as he flicks through them, in consideration.
“Sweetheart?” Kia, curious, shuffles up along the bed a little more to kneel beside him, resting her head on his shoulder, trying to read what he was reading. “What are you doing?”
Cerberus points to the skillset of Illusion, listed as a subcategory within Hypnotics, several thick and emphatic lines scrawled beneath it. “This is underlined because…?”
Kia scoffed. “Because I suck at it,” she says, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “I mean, I can do the basics, but…” She looks up at him, nestling into him, trailing absent patterns across his chest with her fingers. “It’s just…it’s like…you have to sort of direct what someone else sees, so it’s…putting your images into their eyes without actually seeingthrough their eyes, so you don’t know if it’s actually working, you just kind of have to hope for it, and I can’t figure out when it is working so then I get distracted and the whole thing pretty much falls apart.”
“It’s a skill Demonics covers as well.” Cerberus kisses the top of her head, draping an arm across her as he drops the papers in his lap.
Kia stares at him, taken aback. “You can do this?!”
“Well, I don’t use it widely, nor is it my forte, but…”
“Oh, oh, oh! Want to take my Test for me?” Kia gives him a playful entreating look. “Just, I don’t know, shapeshift or something. Is that a thing? You can do that, right? I’ll let you wear whatever you like. Oh my god, I bet you’d be super-hot as me.”
Cerberus collapses into laughter, and she laughs with him, her heart warming as it always does when he loses himself to delight, and particularly now, with him unwell. She repositions herself to settle beside him, kissing him tenderly as she does so, and picks up the papers in one hand, resting her other hand on his thigh. “Alright, alright, okay, I know. I’ll take my own stupid Test. It’s mostly Vampirism specific, anyway. But still…” A devilish grin darts across her face and she bats her eyelashes at him with exaggerated flirtation. :Super-hot.:
Smiling, Cerberus looks down and shakes his head in an ill-advised move that brings about yet another stark reminder of the throbbing sinus headache he’s only just managed to almost forget. He winces slightly and does his best to ignore it. Claiming the honeyed tea from the bedside tray, he reheats it with a touch, and takes a sip. “Well, darkling,” he says, “perhaps not quite that, um…absolute, but I certainly owe you any favours I can offer at this point, so if you’ll allow me—” He kisses her forehead. “—to revisit a request that you once asked of me… Drop your Protect.”
Kia’s eyes widen and she looks up at him, confused, curious. “Why? Do you even need me to?”
“No, love, technically I don’t. But I’d prefer to have your consent, if you’ll give it.”
“For what? I mean, sure, of course, babe, but…”
And then Kia loses her words, struck voiceless, astonished, and reaches her hand out to feel for a bed that is no longer there, finding instead only the soft moss and verdure of a rainforest glade, the gentle sensation of vivid greenery under her touch; lush, thick and rampant plantlife above her, beneath her, beside her, in sensory undeniability. She turns rapidly, looking everywhere around her, unable to comprehend what’s happening even as the very atmosphere changes, the dark, thick, wet scent of fernery, pines, rich soils, and peat surrounding her, immersive and entirely real, solid, incontrovertible. The sky darkens to gunmetal greyblue, stormclouded and windswept, and the crash of distant thunder seems to vibrate the air itself. Sky? But there can’t be sky. Where’s the…where’s the ceiling? What…
“Honey?” she asks, questioning, her own voice feeling like a foreignness, seeking her love who isn’t where he had been mere seconds ago, and she runs her hand along the bark of a nearby tree, one of several, the texture rough and actual, definite. She pushes it, pushes harder; it does not yield. The thunder echoes again, muted but resonant, a certainty, and the heavy cloudcover darkens with it, bringing further shadow to the dell. Shifting her position and reaching for familiarity does nothing to transform the verdant rolling hills back into the furniture she knows so well – oak and cast iron and ornate fabric lost to, consumed by, this wilderness she’s breathing. The landscape stretches out endless and impossibly vast; bedroom walls stay invisible, dissolved. There are no hard angles. No corners. Thunder once more but softer, as if moving away. Wisps of phosphorescence dartdance across thickets and brush, phantasmal. She curls her toes against some lichen at her feet.
:Know this, love,: Cerberus Mindsends almost as if in echo, in memory, to the bone, and Kia spins around to face him, seated beside her but on the opposite side to where she last saw him, dressed as if for a fog-covered moorside in a thick cable-knit sweater and fleecelined suede coat, which she knows is not possible this is not possible it cannot be possible how can he do this how can anyone oh my god definitely not reality but still the only tangible perception she can make, and she isn’t at all sure she can speak to him and she tries to see what she knows to be real, where she knows she must be sitting, but she simply can’t, and she plucks a honeysuckle flower off a nearby creeping vine that has to be fictitious and yet it somehow isn’t, marvelling as she turns it over in her hands, touching its petals, breathing its sweet perfume.
“You’re extraordinary,” she whispers, tears in her eyes.
:Close your eyes a moment, darkling, and immerse. Remember this. Understand this.:
And feeling the reassuring touch of his hand on hers, she closes her eyes as requested, reopening them after just a brief time to see again the bedroom that she’d logically known she’d never left, only then consciously recognising that he could not have taken her hand in that way from where she’d thought she’d seen him last, and she gazes up at him, open-mouthed in astonishment, for the shortest of moments before reaching up to trace her fingers along the contours of his face, almost as if to confirm his existence. “How are you even…” she murmurs in wonder, before calling herself back to reality somewhat.
She takes a moment to rebalance, breathes deeply, recentering. “Okay.” She exhales slowly. “Alright. Okay, that was…wow, that was completely amazing and… I love you but that was… If that’s what I’m meant to do… I mean, I could feel it. I held a flower. Fuck, babe. I have enough trouble even getting an image to form. A single image. You…you made a world. There’s no way I can do that.”
“You most certainly can, love,” counters Cerberus, “and, in fact, will. Should bring you up to a Level 8 grading, I’d imagine.” He presses his index finger then the back of his hand against his nose, frowning a little at a building itch, sniffling. “Excuse me. You just, um…recall the memory, enter in and redirect, adjusting for context. You’ll only be working with mortal capacity for resistance, also, if I recall the Vampirism protocol for this sort of thing correctly, so it sh…should be…” His breath hitches, the returning urgency stealing his sentence; he excuses himself with haste and turns from Kia, succumbing desperate, heavy, absolute. “AhhHEHTSSCHuu!”
“Bless you!”
He raises an index finger and gives the briefest shake of his head, brow creased, and frozen in thrall to the crescendo of oncoming need; he takes an imposed moment, expectant, and another, inhaling shallow scissored twice and over, then deep, deeper still.
And again.
“hh-HH… Hh-TSSCHhuu!”
And oh he does not want to concede, but again.
“HMPTch! HHKTchu!” His attempt at resistance proves no contest against the still insistent, overwhelming tickle, and he gives over completely this time, abandoning any further fight. “Hh-TSSCH-uu! ah-hh… AHHTSSCHUU! Ah, gods.”
Kia’s own breath comes a touch uncertain too as she purrs a honeytoned, “Bless you, sweetheart.”
Cerberus exhales tiredly, pushes silken ebony disorder back from his face with one hand while claiming several tissues with the other. “Thanks, love,” he murmurs, adding a sotto voce curse or two about the entire situation. “Pardon me.” He blows his nose, a little more gingerly now, sniffles again and sighs, repeats the process. Ridiculous.
A thought suddenly occurs to Kia that piques her interest far too much to not to ask it. “So, um…what would have happened if you’d sneezed during that whole…you know, ‘the bedroom is a forest now’ performance?”
Cerberus wipes his nose a final time before vaporising the latest used tissue collection. He chuckles quietly, clears his throat. “You’d best tell me, I think.”
“Yeah, but you didn’t, though. I would have…” Kia breaks off, examines her beloved’s expression with wary sidelong glance, considering whether there was any chance of...
No. With a faint scoff, she rejects the possibility, positive, confident. “No, you did not. There’s no way I don’t hear that.”
“If you say so, love.”
She frowns. “You’re right here. I am next to you in the bed.”
“Yes, it’s wonderful.” He flashes her a candid, disarming smile. “My favourite thing.”
Laughing, Kia pushes him in play. “Well, mine too, sweetheart, but that’s not what I meant and you know it,” she says before returning to her point. “You did not sneeze during that, though. No way. It just isn’t… Nope. You’re teasing me.”
“Well.” Cerberus once again brings newly steaming heat to the cup of tea with a touch, the very slightest of smiles crossing his face. “I admit that thunder is rather a cliché, but I didn’t have a great deal of time to consider intricacy of plot.”
“You di… But…” Kia stares at him in complete bafflement. “How?!”
“Illusion, darkling.” He stretches an idle arm across her shoulders, presses a kiss to her temple. “This is how it works.”
“Are you serious?!” Kia shakes her head in amazement. “God, do I even know what reality is?!” She gives a half laugh of incredulity, simultaneously astounded and utterly unsurprised at the variety of skills her beloved seems able to just call to command at will. “Okay, okay, and…so now because you…set me up, is that right, I can just, what, do that now? Oh. Ohh, whoa now, wait a second. Hang on.” She gives him a sly look, comprehension dawning. “Did you just do my homework for me?”
Cerberus laughs softly, a little darkly. “Consider it a crash course. Anyway, I know that you are in fact highly skilled in…not unrelated areas. I certainly know you can direct events. Your truly…outstanding talent with Immerse and Possess proves it. I suspect you just weren’t sure where to begin in this case.” He gives her a gentle smile. “You have an advantage, love. You should use it.”
Kia smiles back. “Oh, I’ll use you alright. I mean, use it.” She winks, laughing again. “I liked your mountain man look, by the way. Do you even have a cable-knit sweater?"
Cerberus raises an eyebrow. "What? You dressed me in a sweater?"
“I dressed you? What?"
“My direction only goes so far, darkling. Illusion involves a great deal of obfuscation, but it’s not a complete taking over. Some parts of it are nothing more than guidance, suggestions. And certain aspects are – I assure you – entirely of your own creation." He looks at her in nonplussed bemusement. “Really? Cable knit?”
“Navy blue, with a tan suede jacket,” Kia specifies with haughty precision before dissolving into laughter anew and doubly at the expression on his face. "I guess that’s what you get for setting everything in a forest. Come on, I was thematically accurate, at least.” She wipes away tears of laughter before meeting his gaze with conviction, points at him as if delivering an unarguable truth. “You looked hot as fuck, incidentally."
“I feel I’ve learnt something entirely new about you tonight,” Cerberus remarks, smiling briefly at her before suddenly turning away again, a couplet of fierce, unstoppable sneezes almost catching him unprepared absolutely, and he apologises with haste. “Hh-TSSCHH-uu! Ah-TSSCHH-uu! Goddamn it. *snf!* I have had more than entirely enough of this.” He sharply pulls another pair of tissues from the box, blows his nose again, immolates them afterwards with a burst of flame rather more emphatic than required.
“Aw, bless you, hon.” Kia tuts softly, strokes his hair back from his eyes, moves to sit across his lap, facing him. She traces a finely manicured nail down his neck, across his shoulder. “You know,” she nearwhispers, her tone softly teasing, “it wouldn’t kill you to wear a sweater once in a while.”
“I’m really not…”
Kia leans closer, purrs as if sharing the wickedest of secrets. “Denim jeans too.”
:Gods, love, who are you?: Cerberus Mindsends in shadowsnarl as he wraps a strong arm around his bonded and draws them together, claiming her mouth and kissing her with fire palpable.
:You know me, sweetheart.: With deft touch and feline grace, slightest shrug, Kia allows her negligee to smoothly fall away, returning her beloved’s kiss perfervid, wanting, infusing her reciprocal Mindsend with the same.
:Your favourite thing.:

Season 2; Episode 3: Ice Pick
Hello all! I’m back home from my vacation so I’ll be back to updating every Monday but I figured since I missed last week I would post a chapter today! I hope you all enjoy and as always constructive criticism is welcomed!
Season 2; Episode 3: Ice Pick
Pairings: Scott McCall x Twin Sister, Lydia Martin x Best Friend
Warnings: Nothing
Word Count: 2,220
Season 2 Masterlist
Today was the day we were rock climbing in gym class. I was standing next to Lydia and Stiles as we watched Allison and Scott climb the wall. Allison and Scott slowly made their way up the wall, clearly talking to each other. After about a minute they start racing the other up, Scott using his supernatural abilities to stay just above Allison. When Allison looks to see Scott by her side, she quickly kicks his foot away from the wall. She smiles triumphantly seeing him fall back to the ground, the safety line stopping him right before he slams into the mat.
I smirk as Coach leans down to speak to my brother, “McCall, I don’t know why, but your pain gives me a special kind of joy.” He straightens back out and turns around to address the class, “All right, next two. Stilinski. Erica. Let’s go.”
Stiles happily steps up towards the mat, getting on his harness and safety lines without a problem.
Nervously, Erica Reyes, a skinny girl with dull blue eyes and fizzy blonde hair, steps up beside him. As soon as they are both safely attached to the harness and cables they start climbing.
Stiles has no problem quickly reaching the top and making his way back down. Erica on the other hand, has made it about a quarter of the way up and stays frozen to the spot. As we all gaze up at her Coach starts speaking, “Erica? You okay? Dizzy? Vertigo?”
Next to me Lydia sighs, “Vertigo’s a dysfunction of the vestibular system of the inner ear. She’s just freaking out.”
I lightly elbow her, I’ve never talked to Erica, hell I barely even knew she exists since she’s never been in my friend group, but I still don’t want people to make fun of someone with a fear.
Once again Coach calls out, “Erica!”
“I’m fine!” She shakily calls out, still frozen on the rock wall.
“Coach, maybe it’s not safe. You know she’s epileptic.” Allison speaks up.
“She is? Why the hell doesn’t anyone tell me these things? Erica, you’re good. Push off. I’ll ease you down.” Erica is still frozen, the only thing she moves is her eyes, squeezing them shut.
“Erica just let go.” Coach calls up once more. Finally, Erica gently pushes off the wall. She grasps tightly to the safety line as Coach eases her from the wall. Her feet hit the mat and she shakily gets out of the harness, “That’s it. Erica. Shake it off.”
A few kids snicker at her as she walks to the back of the crowd. Sighing, I step up to the wall with Lydia by my side. I turn to her, smirking, “Race you to the top?”
There is a mischievous glint in her eyes as she replies, “It’s on.”
*_*_*_*_*_*
Now in the locker room, I was changing out of my gym clothes with Allison and Lydia nearby. “You’re coming with us tonight, right?”
I look over at Lydia and immediately shake my head. “What? Why?”
“Well Allison and Scott are going to be together, and even though you don’t like him like that Stiles and you will be together.”
Lydia pulls her lips into a pout, “That’s not happening and you know it.”
I roll my eyes but before I can say anything Allison speaks, “Nothing has to happen, but the point is that you two did go to the dance together and he does like you. (Y/N) doesn’t want to be a fifth wheel.”
I nod my head, agreeing with the hunter. “You won’t be the fifth wheel! Stiles would be.” Lydia exclaims with a bright smile lighting up her face.
I shake my head, a laugh escaping, “I am not getting in between whatever weird relationship you and Stiles have.”
Lydia dramatically sighs, “Then bring a date! There are plenty of guys on the lacrosse team that would love to go out with you!”
I scrunch my nose up at the thought, “No thanks. I’m living my life and I do not need a man in it to be happy.” I pause pulling my shirt over my head, “Plus, Nate really screwed me over and no matter how much I want to move on, I know it wouldn’t be fair to whoever I go out with. I’m just not ready to start dating yet.”
Lydia’s shoulders sagged as we made our way out of the locker room and back into the gym, “You girls have fun though.” I smile, trying to cheer Lydia up.
Just as I finished speaking we looked up and saw Scott running towards the rock wall, making it just in time to catch Erica from hitting the ground.
*_*_*_*_*_*
I sat with the girls at lunch, Lydia still trying to convince me to come with them to the ice rink tonight. Before I could speak and tell her no once more the cafeteria doors burst open, our heads all swivel to look at whoever enters.
The girl has a face full of makeup, styled blonde hair, a tight black skirt, showing off her long legs, a white tank top and black heels. “What. The holy hell. Is that?” Lydia asks.
Scott’s eyebrows knit together, “That’s Erica.” He states from the table next to us.
As the exchange is happening, Erica reaches down grabbing an apple from another student’s tray. She bites into it, then quickly turns on her heel and walks out the doors. Scott, Stiles and I quickly move after her.
We follow her to the front of the school where she exists, walking down the steps and into a black Camaro, Derek Hale sitting behind the wheel.
“So what? He’s just turning a bunch of teenagers?” Stiles asks.
Scott gulps, “He’s forming a pack.”

I sit at my desk writing an essay for class. I’m so focused that I don’t hear my mom walk into the room behind me, “Working on homework?”
I jump at the sound of her voice, “God, mom! Don’t do that.”
She chuckles gently, “Sorry.”
Turning to look at my mom who sits on my bed, I answer, “Yeah, I have an essay for English due in a couple of days.”
She nods, “Scott’s not home?”
I shake my head, “He’s with Stiles.”
“You didn’t want to go with them?” She asks.
“Not today. I figured they should have some guy time.”
“What about Lydia?”
“She’s on a date. She tried to set me up so we could go on a double date like we used to but I said no.”
“Well why not? I’m sure there are plenty of guys from school that would love to go out with you.”
I sighed and stood up to sit next to my mother. I laid my head on her lap as she started playing with my hair, “Well-” I hesitate before speaking up again, “I know that what Nate did was horrible, but I can’t help but still care about him.”
“Oh sweetie, you loved him. He broke your heart. It’s going to take some time for you to move on and that is okay.” My eyes started to get misty as I rapidly blink, refusing to cry.
“I know I just- I don’t want to care about him anymore. He doesn’t deserve my love.”
My mother smiled sadly, “No, he doesn’t. But I think it’s beautiful, how deeply you care and love. That’s something to cherish (Y/N).” She paused for a minute, continuing to run her hand through my long locks, “It’s alright to feel broken sometimes and someday you will find someone who looks at you like you put the stars in the sky. And when that day comes and all the days leading up until then, I will be by your side.”
I sat up and pulled her into a tight hug, “I love you so much, mommy.”
“I love you too.”

At lunch the next day I sat near Allison and Lydia, like most days. “How was the date last night? I never got the chance to ask.” I look at the two girls waiting for an answer.
“It was nice to be able to go on a date again.” Allison smiled.
I turned to Lydia, “I surprisingly had a good time. But that may just be because I’m good at ice skating.”
I smirk, “Are you sure it’s not because Stiles was there?”
Lydia rolls her eyes, “Yeah, I’m sure.”
“I don’t know why you won’t give him a chance. He practically worships the ground you walk on. He’ll treat you like a queen.”
“I don’t like him like that. And once again, I’m going to ask. If you have such high praise for him why don’t you date him?”
I shake my head, “One it would be weird considering he’s practically another brother. And two I’m not ready to date again, which you already know.”
Lydia gently grabs my hand, “(Y/N/N) I know that you’re hurt about how Nate treated you but you need to move on. He’s not worth it and there are so many people at this school alone that have crushes on you.”
“She’s right you know.” Allison pipes up.
“Not you too.” I groan, looking at the hunter.
“Listen, I get it. You loved Nate and it’s going to take some time to fully get over him. But as long as the guys that you go on dates with understand that you aren’t ready for a real relationship, what’s the harm?” Allison says.
I sigh, “I guess there is no harm to going on dates if they’re aware of where I stand. I just don’t want to lead someone on.”
“That’s why you tell them the truth from the beginning. I mean I’m pretty sure everyone in the school knows what happened between you and Nate anyway. I’m sure whoever you choose to date will understand.” Allison smiles.
“Or you could have some fun.” Lydia shrugs,
I raise an eyebrow, “You mean don’t tell them anything and just lead them on?”
“No. I mean don’t do dates but become friends with benefits with someone.”
I laugh, “I’ll pass, Lyds.”
“It’s just an option.” She hums, a small smile on her face.
*_*_*_*_*_*
Just as school lets out Scott and Stiles filled me in on what they knew about Derek’s new pack. “So he’s going after Boyd?” I question.
Scott nods, “I’m going to head to the ice rink to see if he’s at work. Stiles is heading to his house.”
I nod, “I would volunteer to come with one of you but I promised Lydia I would hang out today. Be careful, both of you.” The two brunettes nod as we go our separate ways.
“There you are.” Lydia says as I meet her by her car.
“Sorry, I was talking with Scott and Stiles.”
“I’m happy you said yes to a girl’s afternoon. I feel like we haven’t hung out in forever. Just the two of us, I mean.”
I smile, “I know. I miss our girl days.”
Once we made it to her house we grabbed some snacks from the kitchen and headed up to her room. “Okay so I actually wanted to talk to you about something.” Lydia says as we sit next to each other on her bed.
“If this is about trying to set me up you already know how I feel about that.”
“Okay, one, I figured Allison and I convinced you to give dating a try. And two, it’s not about that.”
“If I do give dating a try, I want it to be with someone I choose. Not someone you set me up with. Bit that’s beside the point, what was it that you wanted to talk about.”
Lydia sighs, “I told the others not to tell you but I hate hiding things from you.” She pauses as I knit my eyebrows together in confusion. “Something happened at the ice rink yesterday.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well- It’s hard to explain.” Lydia bites her lip.
I reach for her hand to provide some sort of comfort, “Hey, it’s alright. Take your time.”
She nods, “I don’t really know what happened but one minute everything was fine and the next I was on my knees looking at the ice and screaming.” She gulps before she continues, “I think it might have something to do with when I went missing.”
“Maybe it’s your mind trying to remember what happened.” I suggest.
“It could be.” She replies hesitantly. “I just feel like a freak. Everyone was so worried about me and I couldn’t even give them an explanation of what happened.”
“Well trust me, Scott, Stiles, and Allison will not look at you like you’re a freak. Plus, even if they did, they’ll have to look at me like I’m a freak. ‘Cause I’m never leaving your side, no matter how freaky you may become.” I gently smile at my best friend.
Lydia starts smiling at my words, “I guess we’ll just have to be gorgeous freaks together.”
“Always.” I pull her into a tight hug. We both fall onto her mattress as we laugh at the other.

Content Warnings: Anxiety about travelling! Let me know if I missed something.

Tumblr media
“Are you excited to see Logan and Roman?”
“Yeah.” Virgil stared out the window at the other cars on the highway, catching glimpses of the drivers as they whipped past. “It’s gonna be great.”
“Sure will! It’s been so long since they’ve come to see us, and it’ll be nice to be back where it’s warm, even for a couple weeks.” Patton had been keeping up a steady cheerful chatter ever since he had picked up Virgil from his apartment. Virgil appreciated it; travelling was one of his least favourite things, and he was busy running through his mental check-list over and over again. Charger cable, phone, wallet, water bottle… why did it feel like he was forgetting something?
“They’ve been talking non-stop about this breakfast place,” Patton went on, and Virgil tried to relax. They were almost to the airport and he knew that he had all of the important things. “If it’s half as good as Roman says, I think you’ll have to roll me onto the plane back because I’ll have eaten so many pancakes!”
“Or you could not eat four stacks in one sitting again.”
“What else is life for?” Patton chortled, swerving into the next lane with a carelessness that made Virgil close his eyes for a few seconds.
“Fair enough,” Virgil managed, trying his best to forget that they were travelling at 70 miles per hour. He counted his breaths and thought about how nice it would be to see Roman and Logan, however stressful the plane ride that divided them.
The four of them had been best friends in high school and had split up to go to two different universities. The newly formed pairs kept in touch with online games of D&D and weekly skype dates, but Virgil still missed them. Soon, though… soon, he would be squeezed onto a couch, all four of them pressed together in a tangle of limbs and love.
Patton chattered on about this and that as the airport signs started to multiply, and soon enough they were turning off towards the parking garage. Charger cable, phone, wallet, water bottle, Virgil’s mind murmured. What are you forgetting?
“Here we are!” Patton’s voice pulled Virgil from his thoughts, and he welcomed the distraction as they pulled into a parking spot. “Let’s get those bags and head in.” Virgil obediently headed out and retrieved his backpack and his suitcase. Patton had a purse over one shoulder and a larger suitcase, and he held out his hand to Virgil when they were both ready. Virgil intertwined his fingers with Patton’s and they walked together into the airport.
It was a large building, and the sound hit Virgil immediately as they walked through the automatic doors. People hurried this way and that, babies crying, the florescent lights sparkling unpleasantly off the polished floors. Virgil held on tight to Patton’s hand and the handle of his suitcase, letting Patton lead the way. He tried to stay aware of the flow of people around him, but a man broke free of the crowd and marched forwards, bumping into Virgil as he went past.
As Virgil stumbled sideways, he felt his anxiety take a quick turn into just plain overwhelmed. All he could focus on was Patton’s hand and the fact that they were walking. This was bad, he could feel himself slipping, but it was okay. He had Patton here to guide him, and Patton could take care of both of them.
They reached the line for checking their bags, and Patton turned around with an exaggerated sigh of relief. As soon as he saw Virgil, though, his eyes widened.
“Are you okay?” His hands were on Virgil’s shoulders, holding him in place. “You don’t look okay.”
Virgil tried to explain that he was fine, a little overwhelmed, tried to remind Patton that he hated travelling and that they had both expected this, just not so early in the trip. Instead his throat closed up and he could feel the burn of impending tears in his eyes. “Pat,” he managed, and then couldn’t say anything else.
“Oh, kiddo,” Patton sighed, and pulled Virgil into a hug. Patton was familiar and the weight of his arms around Virgil was enough to dull the noise around them. The overwhelming spiral of Virgil’s thoughts lessened as he closed his eyes and leaned into Patton. “I know travelling is hard. Once we have our seats, I’ll get you something fun to do, okay?”
Virgil managed to hum a confirmation, and Patton ran a hand through Virgil’s hair before extracting himself from the hug.
“Uh-oh! It’s our turn,” Patton laughed, and took Virgil’s hand again. The line in front of them had vanished, and they were next up to the bag check. Patton took care of handing the suitcases over, and tucked both ticket stubs into his pocket with a bright smile for the woman who’d helped them.
From there, it was a long walk to the terminal. Virgil stuck close to Patton, staring around at all the bustling people and flinching at the sound of suitcase wheels on marble tiles. Patton slipped a pair of headphones over Virgil’s ears and the overwhelmed feeling went away a little bit. The headphones were playing Patton’s favourite Disney music, and Virgil found himself bobbing his head to it as they sat down to wait.
Seven songs later, they were boarding the plane, Patton carrying Virgil’s backpack for him. The hallway to the plane was cold, like the weather outside, and Virgil shrank into his sweater as best he could until they were stepping through the metal door into the plane itself.
There were so many people and the compartment numbers just kept going! Virgil tried to count with them until Patton tugged at his sleeve and pointed to a pair of seats. “These are ours,” he said, Virgil hearing him faintly through the music. Patton pulled the headphones off gently; the sound wasn’t as bad on the plane, although the murmur of other people getting settled was all around them. “You sit by the window, I already closed it for you.”
“Thanks,” Virgil managed. Words were still hard. Patton smiled at him as Virgil edged into the seat and plopped down, immediately curling up with his heels on the seat and his knees under his chin.
“There we go!” Patton sat beside him and reached over to fasten Virgil’s seatbelt. “All settled in.” His voice was quiet and soft, almost lost in the conversations around them. “Now, we can’t start a movie just yet, but how would you like to do some colouring? Did you bring your book?”
Virgil’s eyes widened. He had forgotten his colouring book! He’d known there was something. Now he would have nothing to do while the plane took off and it would be horrible and he would make everyone else uncomfortable by crying and-
“That’s okay, I brought one with me,” Patton said cheerfully, and pulled a Disney princess colouring book from his purse. “You can have Merida, if you want.”
“Really?” Virgil rubbed away the beginnings of tears, distracted by the offer.
“Really really!” Patton found the right page and tore it out, putting it on Virgil’s lap with a flourish. “You can use your laptop to colour on, and I’ll use my tray. We can colour together for a little bit.” Virgil nodded, and peeked over to see what Patton was choosing to colour. He had it the colouring book open to Ariel and Sebastian. That seemed fine to Virgil. He was more interested in getting the brown crayon for Merida’s bow. He liked to colour the little things first, and the dress last.
They coloured side by side through the safety instructions. When liftoff started, Virgil curled into Patton’s side to hide, and Patton held him tight until the plane leveled out and stopped shaking.
Virgil came back to full awareness about halfway through the movie Patton had picked for them, some cheesy Christmas romcom. He squeezed Patton’s hand with a gratitude that he hoped Patton could feel. Judging by the kiss Patton pressed to his forehead, the message had been received just fine. And to really say thank you, Virgil even sat through the rest of the movie.

Chapter 17: Storm
As the hunted Grandalor raced north under all of the sail that she could muster, the winds began to veer over, coming from the West.  Torn clouds of Strong Skin gray rising from the southern horizon blotted out the sky.  The thickening overcast was racing wildly across the sky from Southwest to East Northeast.
The Grandalor was running a reach across the wind, taking the best advantage of the wild weather that raced ahead of the advancing Coriolis Storm.
The sprinting ship began to crash from wave to wave as the storm surge caught up with her from abeam.  The big ship was heeled so far over by the force of the wind that her lee rail was often plunged under the waves.  With Darkistry at the helm, they turned and began to run before the storm.  Water rushed across the deck every time that the bow plunged down and it flowed in torrents out the scuppers as the ship rose up the next wave.  The wind was not yet carrying the slashing rain that was soon to come.
Barad, braced into place by ropes, near the steering tackle and the tocsin, ordered the storm safety lines rigged about the deck.  The tocsin beat the order and men and women leaped to obey.  As quickly as the safety lines were secure, Barad ordered all the main sails shortened and the topsails furled.
The combined watch crews worked together to claw the rock tight canvas up to the yard arms for furling in the now screaming wind.  Barad, looking up at crewmen he could hardly see against the roiling clouds, began to fear that he had waited too long.
High overhead, the straining crewmen and women knew that they were winning the battle with the recalcitrant, wind filled canvas and admired his nerve.  The ship began to right as the sail area diminished and she was soon plunging ahead under shortened jibs and a tightly reefed mizzen gaff alone in the gloom that presaged the storm darkness to yet to come.
A flock of wild paddle ducks, fleeing the wreck of their seaweed mat and flying desperately before the storm, spied the ship and swarmed into the safety of the rigging.  They jabbed with blunt beaks at the fingers and feet of any crewman foolish enough to want to use a duck’s bit of rigging for its intended purpose.
Shortly, a pair of Wide Wing Sea Hawks found the same safety and landed among the ducks, holding on tightly with the claws on their feet and at the joints of their wings.  They ignored the easy prey, safety from the deadly weather being their only concern.
Further south, the Naral fleet’s careful search pattern was thrown into total disarray.  The unseasonable storm caught everyone by surprise and ships were scattered to the winds as they battled for survival.
The Dark Dragon plunged north and west, running before the storm on one special lobster claw sail, smaller than her usual sails, especially made for storms.  All of the rest of her canvas was tightly furled to its booms and secured safely on deck.  The storm sail was braced and managed by wrist thick cables, run to windlasses.  To reinforce it, a strong net had been sewn directly into the sail when it was made. They were deep into the storm’s self created darkness but Sula knew with utter certainty that the Soaring Bird was holding a course just to the south and east of them, no more than a thousand yards away.
She felt Huld in the back of her mind at times like this.  She did not pretend to understand how the ‘Dragon Bonding’ of the Barant fleet worked but it did.  At times of stress or danger, she sensed his presence, however far away he might be.
He’d been there since they’d met, more than fifteen Gatherings ago, during the Second Boren Current War.  ‘Dragon Bonding’ was in no way love.  It was something that had gone ‘sideways’ between them during the rescue of first his ship and then her own from a pair of Boren fleet raiders.  They had been partnered ever since.  Not precisely conversation but a quiet consensus on necessary action came of the contact.  It had made them a deadly force during the wars. Over the Gatherings that followed, she had learned that it was a lifelong bond.
Now, she could feel the usually serene Huld wildly alive and delighted by the challenge of the storm.  Crazy, Sula thought, he actually enjoys this kind of weather!  I ought to be used to it by now.  This isn’t the first storm that we’ve ridden out together. The Dark Dragon’s storm rig was copied from the one Huld used.
The port bow of the giant catamaran ran into a high, black-gray wave and water surged over the fore-deck, rolling along the base of the pilot house, forty feet back from the bow.  The Dark Dragon shuddered and rose over the wave, heaving it aside with casual power.  She was built to withstand storms like this and, though it was a wild, rocking, jolting ride, the Dark Dragon was taking the weather in her stride.
The Naral fleet, caught by the storm, was widely scattered.  All of the ships had been built to survive the worst known weather but ill luck, a bit of slipshod work or a failure of maintenance could put any ship at risk.  And it was happening.
Under the force of the potent Coriolis storm, lines and cables did part, sails ripped and blew to tatters.  The huge cyclone was over a thousand miles across with winds of a hundred to a hundred and fifty miles per hour.  Ships that took the seas wrongly battled to say afloat.  If they breached or just hit a freak wave, a ship could be seriously flooded.  Bailing crews furiously pumped the seawater out of the below decks of virtually every ship.
All ship captains knew the basic strategy for battling such a storm. ‘All you had to do’ was ride with the storm, holding as close to the outer edge as possible, for between a thousand and fifteen hundred miles.  After that you broke free into the storm’s wake and theoretically you were safe.
Unfortunately, there were a few hitches in that simple seeming program.  In the gloom of the storm there were no markers to tell you when you had gone the required distance.
Assuming that you made your breakout in the right place, and not where the storm would just run over you again, The seas would be violently rough for a day or two from the disturbance of the storm’s passing. This was also prime hunting time.  The seas teemed with life as fish feasted on the bounty of stirred up plankton, loose seaweeds and dead or injured fish and birds.
All of this activity drew the big predators, the Strong Skins, Wing Rays, Hags, Moon Flats and Lesser Sea Dragons.  Some of these monsters had been known to attack ships and would certainly take divers or anyone else unlucky enough to be in the water.  Some of the bigger creatures considered small boats to be snack trays.
The hunting was not entirely one sided.  The ships that were still functioning well in the aftermath of the storm would be seeking the wealth of predator fish hides, fangs, bones and meat.  This was the best possible time to search for the elusive and valuable Lesser Dragon and Hag.  Nobody in their right mind actually looked for Wing Rays or Moon Flats unless they were little ones, say, forty tons or less.
Aboard the Grandalor, the crew below-decks were preparing warm blankets for the deck crews as they came off watch.  The storm watches were only two hours long and the crews needed to handle the sails and help the helmsman were small.  In the Galley, the cooks had secured pots over the oil-fire boxes and fastened their lids to keep the contents from sloshing out.  They were making hot drinks and hearty soups to greet the men and women coming off watch.
Everyone was anxious about the risk of running in the storm, fearing that Captain Barad would bring their breakout in the midst of their enemies.  It gradually dawned on the crew that Captain Barad was not aiming the Grandalor for a breakout at all.  They could feel how the overtaking seas lifted the stern and passed under the ship.  The angle was wrong.  They were heading deeper into the storm, not breaking out.
Barad had been maintaining watch on deck since the storm began.  Tanlin suited up in foul weather gear and took two mugs, with the covers usually used to teach young infants how to drink, and filled them with hot red-weed broth.  She made her way aft, through dark passages to the rearmost companionway and climbed to the deck access.  The alert crewmen there opened the hatch to let her up on deck and sealed it quickly behind her.
She attached her safety line to the storm line and went on aft, battling to keep her feet in the wind and rain, with the deck heaving underfoot and wave water rushing across it in (mostly) shallow torrents.
She reached Barad and gave him a hot broth.  His big hands wrapped around the warm mug in appreciation.  Tanlin indicated by gesture, for the wind and rain allowed few words, that they were going deeper into the storm.  She was not surprised to see him reply the same way and indicate that all was correct.

Common Sense and Application of Galvanized C Steel Profile
Galvanized C-section steel refers to a new type of steel made of high-strength steel plate, cold-formed and roll-formed, with uniform wall thickness, excellent cross-sectional properties, and high strength. Compared with traditional hot-rolling, the same strength can save 30% of materials.
Due to the characteristics of galvanized C-shaped steel, it is widely used in purlins and wall beams of steel structure buildings, and can also be combined into lightweight roof trusses, brackets and other building components. In addition, it can also be used in mechanical light industry manufacturing. Columns, beams and arms etc. So how is galvanized C-beam produced? Since galvanized C-section steel is widely used in building components, it is also very strict in the production process. In the past, there were several people on a production line, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive. With the development of science and technology, the machinery and equipment of steel mills have also changed. The machining of galvanized C-sections has also become automated.
MANUFACTURING PROCESSES
Unwinding ①— Leveling ②—— Forming ③—— Forming ④—— Straightening ⑤—— Length Measurement ⑥—— Punching the rib hole ⑦—— Punching the elliptical connecting hole ⑧—— Forming and cutting ⑨
C-shaped steel is processed by cold bending of hot rolled plate, with thin wall and light weight, excellent section performance and high strength. Compared with traditional channel steel, the same strength can save 30% of materials. Through the above introduction, galvanized C-shaped steel has the advantages of adjustable size and high compressive strength. Although the section size of the section steel formed by cold bending is light, it is very suitable for the stress characteristics of the roof purlin, so that the mechanical performance of the steel can be fully utilized. A variety of accessories can also be connected into different combinations, with beautiful appearance. The use of profiled steel purlins can reduce the weight of building roofs and reduce the amount of steel used in engineering, so it is also called economical and efficient steel. It is an alternative to channel steel, angle steel and steel pipe. New building materials such as traditional steel purlins.
Galvanized C-shaped steel, smooth surface, uniform zinc layer, strong adhesion, high dimensional accuracy, all surfaces are wrapped by zinc layer, surface zinc content is usually 120-275g/㎡, long service life, corrosion resistance and durability, it is a protection The strongest type of galvanized C-shaped steel is of high quality.
THERE ARE MANY VARIETIES OF C-BEAMS

SOLUTIONS TO THREE COMMON PROBLEMS IN THE PROCESSING OF C-SECTION STEEL
1. The small side of the C-shaped steel is inclined: adjust the clamping roller at the feeding end. If the small side is on the left side, the left clamping roller will be loosened, and the right clamping roller will be tightened.
2. Lateral bending of C-shaped steel: When the C-shaped steel is bent to the left end, loosen the second row of left-end clamping rollers at the discharge end, and adjust the right-end clamping rollers tightly.
3. Longitudinal bending of C-section steel: When the C-section steel is bent upwards, press down the last row of straightening shafts, and when bending downwards, push up the second row of straightening shafts.
