Shoot 5 Plan

For this shoot i wanted to create more of a story in my image. I want to take a photograph of me in front of a window to show that i’m stuck in my house and feel isolated. I would like my figure to be dark as if the inside is dark and the outside is light. I think this will symbolise the want to be outside and the unhappiness being suck indoors brings.

Canon Lens EF 24-105mm 1:4 L Macro (i will have to use a wider lens for this shot so i can get the full window in frame)

I like how these shots came out, for my next shoot i would like to capture a photo of the outside looking in. I think this would create interesting reflections and help tell the story. I would also like to experiment with my hands on the windows. Perhaps with an other hand on the other side of the window to show loneliness. However i feel i have created i feeling of loneliness in the images and feel i have effectively told part of a story.

Camera Raw Edit

I picked out these photos to further edit for there sharpness and pose. The photo of me standing in-front of the window creates a strong impact and personally really creates the feeling of isolation and loneliness. however i love how the light falls on my arm on the last shot opening the window. i thing opening the curtains shows hope (letting the light in) and perhaps creates a little more of a positive image (How ever main theme still being melancholy)

I liked the look of the images i captured in shoot 5. I would like to create a similar image however changing the pose. I am going to capture me reading a book to show how i’m trying to pass the time and distract myself from the situation.

I liked the last image of the chosen 8 as i feel it is the most natural looking pose. The gase outside creates a nice light on my face and neck.

I feel i manages to capture the look i wanted to capture from the images. i like the image of me looking outside as i feel it shows that no matter what we do the circumstanced we are in will always be on our mind. i like the way the light falls on me almost creating a rim light effect.

I would like to capture my hand grasping into my door handle, as this would help me tell the story of my images better. It would be near the end of the sequence of my images as its the step before freedom.

I picked the 2nd and 4th image as the best images from this shoot as i feel they compositionaly look the most interesting. I liked the close up of the hand as i feel this shows the action of opening the door however i felt the position of my fingers on the handle didn't look natural. The 4th image of the contact sheets shows a slight further away angle on the arm and hand. I think this one is the most effective. The positioning of my hand looks more natural in that image.

I quickly discovered that i didn't like the way the images was looking and soon gave up on the idea. I feel it lacks Atmosphere however i’m still going to edit it with the textures just to see how it turns out. My cats kept photoboming destroying the atmosphere of my images .

My garden has just bloomed and it gave me the idea of using flowers as a texture over my images as well as the tree branches. I would like to capture bunches of flowers in natural light.

The 3rd image and 3rd last image on my contact sheet is my favourite. Because the flowers are in clusters it will make an effective texture over my images. i like the tonal range of these images as this is important when trying to create a texture. They are also well focused.

I liked the images of the two locks side by side as i feel the symmetry creates interest. I Think the single lock would be very powerful as well, especially if printed on a large A0.

This shoot was success full at capturing what i wanted to capture however i do feel the image doesn't go with the rest of my images style. I like the scratches on the lock as it shows an attempt to open the door.

I would like to capture the passing of time in an other way. I would like to capture ghostly like poses of myself of the passing day. I will overlay meany images together on Photoshop. I think the ghostly like figure would be symbolic to the emptiness that meany people feel being out of routine.

CONCLUSION: So to wrap up this review, we gave the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens a 46.5/50 and our Highly recommended rating! So to answer the original question, did the Angry Photographer make a decent recommendation? Yup, he did. Thanks angry, as I would have most likely picked up the much more expensive Nikon 105mm f/2.8 micro – which granted has VR, but it’s also more than double the price.

THE FINAL WORD: If you’re anything like me and you’ve recently changed systems to Nikon and you need a high quality, good value macro lens, then look no further than the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro with it’s excellent combination of fantastic build and great optics both for macro and portraiture and all for a very reasonable price, then it’s really hard not to highly recommend a lens like this. Tokina has historically done a great job offering 3rd party glass with superior build and great optics and all for very reasonable prices, the 100 f/2.8 is exactly that, I just wish the focus motor were a bit faster, and a bit quieter.
