So this topic has been refreshed in my mind since I went to a rock shop yesterday. For one, everything is way over priced, like low grade 1x1 inch amethyst should not be 30$ and little gemstone bead bracelets should be like 10$, not 25$-70$. I would like to preface this by saying I am getting my degree in geology and have done so much research. But my real qualm is that all these shops literally make up and mislabel rocks all the time and everyone, especially people who use it for their practices, just buy into it. Common things I see being mislabeled or just made up include: -'Blue/turquoise obsidian':
Tumblr media
No! That's literally just glass, or at the very least not obsidian. Blue obsidian technically exists but its 1) super rare and expensive and 2) looks almost completely black but has a blue/steelish iridescence. -Literally any color of sardonyx than black/brown/red/white:
Tumblr media
This is either dyed or just some other kind of agate. Sardonyx is a combination of Sard (red/brown/orange) and Onyx (black/white). There was only one instance in which I saw anyone say that sardonyx can be green, and it was some dude on Reddit with a picture that had no source or citation. - 'Citrine' Obviously citrine is real but so many people sell fake/heat treated amethyst Fake:
real:
Tumblr media
Real citrine tends to be muted yellow and brown, and not very foggy or white. It also has a consistent color throughout. Heat treated amethyst is typically super vibrant in color and bold yellow, gold, or even dark brown. They are inconsistent in color and tend to be darker at the ends, and have white bases. -Aurora/angel aura and titanium quartz
This is just some other kind of quartz that they put some chemical coat on to make it look like that, its not naturally occurring. I just see so many people being misinformed online and in stores, and these are like the most common ones. Also I want to say that I don't care that people are BUYING these, it's not necessarily hurting anyone. I hate seeing people gatekeeping rocks or like yelling at inexperienced practitioners for using the wrong kind of rock but then go on to use heat treated amethyst as citrine (which are chemically different). Literally almost every kind of rock in a rock store is quartz, like aventurine, onyx, sardonyx, agate, jasper, etc. Like telling someone they cant use carnelian and they have to use sard instead is dumb because they're literally both quartz. If you only care about the color of the rocks for your practice, then leave it at that. But telling someone they can't use a specific rock because its going to give them like bad vibes is so necessary and just wrong.

What are your thoughts on Jensen and Danneel in terms of if they’ll divorce or not?
I did ask a pendulum and it actually said they will divorce next year
Hello Anon, I believe I may have seen an ask of yours show up on another blogger's page. I'm sure you probably are aware that a lot of what I blog about is divination, which does include using a pendulum like I do daily. I do encourage you to read more of my posts to get some understanding of how things like divine blueprints, divine plans, etc. work. One thing about divination is that what is true today may not always be true tomorrow or weeks or months or even years from now. Now, I am going to say this before I give you my answer. With divine blueprints, which basically deal with more the timeline of things (WHEN things are meant to happen, WHERE things are meant to happen, etc.), they are like variations of divine plans, which contain essentially the main things that are meant to happen this lifetime (think of more the WHYs and WHATs). Before I talk about Jensen and Danneel specifically below the keep reading line, please read the tips below for ensuring you speak to benevolent entities more than not.
Some tips on making your pendulum less prone to becoming corrupt:
Have 3 beads on your chain (at least 1 a real semiprecious gemstone, such as clear quartz)
Wire wrap a feather and attach it to the top of the chain right below the bead you hold the pendulum from; feathers are offerings to air elementals
For cleansing, you can either put the pendulum in some salt, rice or even soil overnight, moonlight which is generally safer than sunlight, candle or incense smoke, sound with a tool like singing bowls or bells, larger geodes clusters or slabs or multiple smaller stones with cleansing properties (ex. clear quartz, carnelian, selenite, amethyst, hematite).
Some stones don't do that well with sunlight, due to fading or losing color (ex. iron containing stones like amethyst, aquamarine, beryl, aventurine, apatite, ametrine [amethyst and citrine], amegreen [amethyst and green amethyst/prasiolite], celestite, citrine, fluorite, calcite, sapphire, smoky quartz, super seven, topaz, opal, turquoise, kunzite, unakite, etc.)
Some stones do not do well with water, so I do not really recommend the sun or moon water route (Water element) unless you know for sure your pendulum stone won't get ruined by water (ex. selenite, fluorite, opal, labradorite, fluorite, lapis lazuli [ask me how I know about this one ha ha!], moonstone, copper containing stones, black tourmaline, desert rose, etc.)
With smudging, if you insist on using sage or another neutralizer follow up with something that draws positive energy. I personally love lavender, Indian temple (as does my friend Abbadon), and palo santo
For scents, no evergreens, nag champa, any of those attract money or love kind of scents. Mixed scents that happen to have something like sandalwood or some other evergreen is okay if the other ingredients are more dominant
Pendulums really should swing side to side for yes, towards and away from you for no and counter clockwise for more info or maybe (also when changing direction should also move counter clockwise)
I've had others tell me that their pendulum also said Danneel and Jensen will divorce within the next year or so. Jensen's divine blueprints are more complicated than the average person's because his have been tampered with more than a lot of other people's (he has 200 divine blueprints or variations of his divine plans, whereas most people have 100). I advise you take caution trying to get answers about Jensen's stuff because there are a lot of dangerous malevolent beings trying to make certain things happen and others not happen.
I do believe Jensen and Danneel will eventually separate BUT I am very cautious about giving timelines of things for many reasons. It may be true that today he is on the path of divorcing by next year but tomorrow or next month, he may end up on a path that delays this by another year or more.
I do encourage you to delve more into divination if it works for you but do so responsibly. Some people I've spoken to can't seem to get a good grasp on pendulum divination but tarot cards work better for them, or divination just doesn't work for them at all. I am also curious, what is the swing orientation for your pendulum for yes, no, maybe answers? From what my guides have told me and what I've observed with others, they are actually supposed to have a certain set of orientations for, yes no, maybe or more info kind of answers (I by the way almost never get a maybe but instead get "more info); otherwise it is corrupt and may or may not be able to get reprogrammed. If you want more advisement or even just to share your notes or whatever feel free to come by and send me a PM :)

So after listening to The Prehistory Guys podcast and watching their YouTube channel @ThePrehistoryGuys I had a mighty need for some stone age jewellery. As I couldn't find any that I thought looked authentic, (and that were in my price range), I ended up buying a jewellery making course on Udemy instead.
A long while ago I had gone on a stone-age tech course which taught flint knapping in the morning, and cord-making & bead drilling in the afternoon.
(This culminated with using the best of our flints, the nettle twine we had made, and some birch sap tar to make a hafted stone tool, but that's a different story.)
So I already had a set of beads that I had drilled myself and which I had told myself I would one day learn how to string. This was obviously the ideal moment.
There were not enough for a full necklace, so I had to supplement them with some wood and bone beads I had left from a necklace I had been given as a child and thought was creepy. But when that was done it looked like this:
Tumblr media
And honestly that was not very stone-age looking because, frankly, they were better at bead making than I was. Stone age beads tend to be donut shaped, and also more colourful than this. But these are my beads and they're now wearable, so I'm wearing them.
I was still dissatisfied with how little it was like a genuine archeological find, though, so I went out to the charity shops and bought up a bunch of second hand necklaces, which contained good beads but which were ugly enough that I didn't mind cutting them up to recycle them. (A shell one, one with some great mother-of-pearl beads, one with quills and bullseye beads, and one of random tumbled semi-precious stones.)
I also ventured into the wilds of jewellery suppliers and bought three strings of gemstones (agate, green scolecite and bumblebee jasper) and some silver clasps - a more major expense!) And I made myself another necklace which was slightly longer and much closer to authentic.
Tumblr media
They look great together, and I'm very happy that I have my stoneage necklaces that I had wished for.
But then I had a whole bunch of beads and wire and clasps and the jewellery making bug left over. So I made a couple more and put them on etsy because that's where I'd gone looking for stoneage necklaces to start with and hadn't found anything I liked.
Also on continuing research I've found that the Varna culture seems to have gone in heavily for whole strings of red beads, and the beads at Must Farm were largely green *and blue*. So I have ordered some carnelian to make a Varna inspired necklace, and no doubt I'll be making a Must Farm inspired piece or two as soon as I've saved up enough money to afford some turquoise and/or found a hideous turquoise necklace in a charity shop. Watch this space :)

I’ve been down a rabbit hole wondering about medieval jewelry (and if I can reproduce it despite having no metalworking skills, to which the answer is mostly no) lately & I figured I would share the fruits of my museum collection searches for other medievalists/hobbyists/reenactors/nerds.
Jewelry of the 13th Century Anglo/Francosphere
Tumblr media
TL;DR
Metals: 🟨 gold(tone)
Stones: mostly 🔵 cabochon, rarely 💠 simple cut, some carved 🗿 intaglio or cameo
Stone Colors: warm blues, emerald green, purples, burgundies, reds
Materials: enamel, 💎 gemstones (garnet, Ceylon sapphire, ruby/spinel, emerald) or glass paste imitations, ⚪ semi-precious stones (pearl, lapis, jasper, carnelian, coral, turquoise, porphyry)
Settings: bezel (oval and rectangular); ⚜️ intricate metalwork; more visible and textured metal than modern jewelry; more mixtures of stones and colors than modern tastes
Motifs: ◯ round, ✤ quatrefoil, ✙ cross, ✸ star (even numbers of points), ♣ trefoil, ❦ floral, 🐉 animals, 𝕬 inscription
Formats: brooches, ornamented clothing, rings, pendants, circlets, cuffs (rare)
A detailed look:
Some forms of jewelry that were very popular in the Roman Empire and are again today were just not the thing in the middle European Middle Ages. (Earrings, for example, seem to have barely existed. This is partially at least because ears were covered--by coifs and caps, hair, and (for women) braids or the chin strap and fillet/wimple/gorget.) In fact, a lot of the places we would put jewelry against our skin today were covered.
This left some other options:
Jewelry on Clothing
Medallions
Okay, these aren’t jewelry, strictly speaking, but they’re metalwork ornaments associated with a person.
Enamel Mitre Medallions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OA 3437 and OA 3438 Before 1291, Ile de France Louvre, Paris photos (c) Musée du Louvre / Stéphane Maréchalle 2015
Cloisonné and plique enamel over gold and copper, with decorative motifs of trefoils, quatrefoil, and stars in a palette of dark blue and green with accents that may once have been ruby red.
Appliqué Medallion
Tumblr media
# MRR 256 13th c., Limoge Louvre, Paris photo (c) Musée du Louvre 2014
Gilded copper (though most gold is worn off) with quatrefoil champlevé enamel in emerald green, lapis blue, and white or off-white.
Brooches
Perhaps the most prevalent medieval jewelry item in the Anglo & French regions. These were worn at the shoulder for men and breast for women, often anchoring a cloak, or to close the collar. As the ornate fermail and double-ring brooch suggest, these ran the gamut from practical to incredibly decorative and ornate.
Garnet & Silver Gilt Animal Ring Brooch; Green and Blue Glass and Gilt Ring Brooch
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Right, # M.28-1929 13th c., England V&A, London photo © Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Cabochon garnets or carbuncles in the gilded silver brooch (L), perhaps once paired with smaller stones in the eyes of metalwork animals that bite the pin bracket. The right brooch, also silver gilt, sports two glass paste emerald and sapphire "gems" in cabochon. It was probably a lover's token; it reads (in Lombardic-lettered French) IOSV ICI ATI VCI or "jo su[i] ici a t[o]i v[o]ici" which I might translate as "I am here with/belonging to you, look!"
Ruby & Sapphire Ring Brooch; Sapphire, Garnet, and Pearl Fermail
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left, # 6808-1860 1275-1300, England V&A, London photo © Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Right, # OA6287 1250-1300, France Louvre, Paris photo (c) Musée du Louvre
Blogs often claim that stones were only polished en cabochon until the 16th century, and that medieval jewelers couldn't cut gemstones. But this 13th-century gold ring brooch (left) pairs table-cut purple rubies with collet-set cabochon sapphires, and may evidence early medieval gem-cutting or reuse of Roman cut stones. The silver gilt fermail, right, includes pearl beads, garnets and sapphires both cut and cabbed, and one glass paste cabochon. Both are intricately textured, with punchwork (L) and floral metalwork, probably cast and then attached (R).
Double Ring Brooch with Sapphire and Glass "Emeralds"
Tumblr media
# M.26-1993 13th c., England V&A, London photo © Victoria and Albert Museum, London
This gold double brooch is so small they think it was for a woman or child. Central sapphire cab is flanked by glass paste "emeralds" in bezel settings and metalwork featuring two animal heads.
Jewelry on the Body
Rings
Many are probably familiar with the signet ring, used for pressing into sealing wax, which could be intaglio-carved gemstone or metals. There were also a number of decorative and/or talismanic gemstone rings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LtR:
#M.7-1929 | #M.180-1975 | #OA 11265 1250-1300, England | 1250-1300, Engl/France | 13th c., Engl/France V&A, London | V&A, London | Louvre, France photos L&C © Victoria and Albert Museum, London | R (c) Musée du Louvre
Sapphire in gold is the name of the game when it comes to rings in the thirteenth century; even the purple stones on the left are purple sapphires. (Sapphires were said to aid chastity, purity, and the effectiveness of prayer.) For larger stones, the bezel often has claws added (L); the central ring is an example of a full claw setting that modern viewers might find surprisingly tall. Naturalistic flourishes are added (C & R); these might be pre-cast then attached to the base (R).
Pendants
We equate pendants with necklaces, but their medieval applications also included wear as badges, from headpieces, and on horse decorations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Right, champlevé enamel, gilt copper, and paste "emerald" (harness) pendant # 1976.169 13th c., France Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland photo CC0 Open Access
Statue Jewelry
From here, we get into the really ridiculous stuff; the previous categories could be relatively everyday (as much as ornamentation reserved exclusively for the wealthy can be an everyday thing) but the following examples are astonishing displays not necessarily for wear.
"La Couronne" de Vierge et l'Enfant d'ivoire de la Sainte-Chapelle
Tumblr media
# OA 57 B 1250-1300, France Louvre, Paris photo (c) Musée de Louvre
This was not even a crown for a person, but rather for a painted ivory statue of the Virgin Mary, holding her infant son. (Though circlets, even set with stones, were sometimes worn as part of women's head dress.) It's incredibly ornate gold, set with pearls, garnets and rubies, sapphires, and turquoise (?) en cabochon.
Anneau de Saint-Denis
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
# MS 85 BIS 1200-1215, France Louvre, Paris photos (c) Musée du Louvre / Daniel Arnaudet 1990
This astonishing piece, which is ring-sized but now displayed as a cuff on an ivory hand, is made of gold and displays every possible gemstone appearance characteristic of the period. The front piece has a central sapphire and is surrounded by quartz with red backing (mimicking ruby/garnet), amethysts, pearls, and sapphires, some set on yellow backing (mimicking turquoise?). Most are en cabochon on this face, but two are faceted and two intaglio. Were this not enough, the three other 'faces' of the ring are set with gems as well, two cameos (probably sapphire and garnet?) and one amethyst intaglio set in ornate gold filigree.

I made this using 1 of every different gemstone I could find on my desk. I actually had more than what was needed for a bracelet. Includes; several kinds of jasper, agate, and quartz, and lapis lazuli, fluorite, amethyst, carnelian, sodalite, onyx, snowflake obsidian, honey calcite, howlite, bronzite, blue sandstone, coral, cat's eye, malachite, dolomite, turquoise, verdite, moonstone,   and unakite.
I made these using TierraCast earring findings and bead caps with vintage Czech crystals.
My parent's got me the Victorian style pendant in the USA and I added the bail and cut the chain.
